Ladies of Lore

This week on Ladies of Lore, I’m joined by #1 bestselling author Jennifer Saint to discuss her latest novel, This Immortal Heart, a VERY beautiful reimagining of Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love.

We sat down and talked all about the Aphrodite behind the familiar image of beauty and romance, examining her power, complexity, and enduring influence across mythology. We discuss her legendary relationship with Ares, the fascinating connection between love and war and why ancient stories continue to resonate with modern readers.

Jennifer also shares insights into her writing process, the challenges (puppies) and joys (Taylor Swift) of retelling mythology for contemporary audiences, and what drew her to one of the most iconic and misunderstood figures in the Greek pantheon.

This Immortal Heart is available from June 4, 2026 anywhere you can buy books!

This Immortal Heart Book Description:

From the moment Aphrodite emerges fully formed from the sea, she is devastatingly beautiful and imbued with ancient power. Driven by passion yet strategic in how she moves through the halls of Olympus and the earthly realm alike, the free-willed goddess wields unparalleled influence over every living being.

When fate brings her face to face with Ares, she bristles at this surly, hot-tempered warrior who’s seemingly her opposite: disliked by everyone and devoted to stirring up conflict. Yet these gods are no more immune to the dizzying highs and lows of love and loss than anyone else, and soon, they are irresistibly drawn to one another.

As their love affair spans mortal lifetimes, Aphrodite begins to question the gods’ games and her role in them. But there’s only so much room for fire and passion in Zeus’s kingdom. Before long, she must test her devotion to her own divine purpose—and to a love that can only lead to ruin.

Today I am joined by New York Times best selling author Ayana Gray to talk about her book I, Medusa and the power of reclaiming one of the mythology's most well known women.

Ayana is the author of the bestselling Beasts of Prey series, known for its richly imagined worlds and powerful young heroines shaped by myth and folklore. Her latest novel, I Medusa, turns to Greek Mytholgoy to retell the story of the infamous Gorgon from Medusa's own perspective.

In this conversation we discuss the power of retellings, the cultural legacy of Medusa and the ways stories about 'monstrous' women have shaped how we understand power, punishment and transformation.

Kali is one of the most complex and powerful figures in global mythology. In this we follow the evolution of Kali, all the way from her  origins in ancient Sanskrit texts to her role as a liberating force in Tantric cosmology, colonial resistance, feminist iconography, and modern pop culture.

We explore her mythology, the duality of being both terrifying and maternal and her radical transformation across centuries. And through her, we examine what it means to destroy in order to start anew.

This is a special episode originally created as a Patreon exclusive as part of the ongoing 'Ladies of Advent' series.

In this opening episode of 'Ladies of Advent' we start with Our Lady of Guadalupe. The divine mother who appeared in 1531 on a cold hilltop outside of Mexico City. She would go on to become a sacred figure in Catholic devotion as well as a symbol of strength, identity and protection for women, indigenous people and revolutionaries.

I really hope you enjoy it!
