日本に貿易商館を開いているスウェーデン人で、キャリソン・グスタフという大男がいた。彼は大きな図体に似合わぬ神経質であった。

ある日、彼を訪ねていくと、風邪をひいた、調子が悪いという。彼は病院で見の覚えのない病気を発見されるのが怖くて嫌だという。

私が「日本に昔からある葛根湯という薬をのんではどうだ？」というと、彼は日本の薬や医療は信じられないという。

私は、彼をからかってやろうという思いが、ムラムラとしてきた。

There was a large man named Carison Gustaf, a Swede who had a trading house in Japan. He was a nervous man, not fitting his large frame.

One day, I visited him and told him that he had caught a cold and was not feeling well. He said he didn't want to go to the hospital because he was afraid of being found with a disease he didn't know he had.

I said, "Why don't you take an old Japanese medicine called Kakkon-to? He said he did not believe in Japanese medicine or medical treatment.

I was getting horny with the thought of making fun of him.
