村の猟師である次郎七と五郎八は、獲物がなかった帰り道、八幡さまの森に差し掛かりました。

すると、月明かりの中、椋の木の枝に狸が腹鼓を打っています。

二人は、この狸をとってやれ、と鉄砲を向けました。

しかし、狸に逃げられてしまいました。

村へ入ると、また狸がいて、道の真ん中で踊ってます。

Jiroshichi and Gorohachi, two hunters from the village, were on their way home after having caught nothing when they came upon the forest of Hachiman-sama.

In the moonlight, they saw a raccoon drumming its belly on the branch of a muku tree.

The two men aimed their guns at the raccoon, hoping to catch it.

But the raccoon escaped.

When they entered the village, they found the raccoon again, dancing in the middle of the road.
