アフリカへ旅立とうとしている牧師の娘ギルダと、彼女の敬愛するマリヴロン女史。

マリヴロンは、自分のやっていることよりも牧師の娘としてひとのために僻地で身を捧げることのほうがずっと立派で、芸術だと言う。

ギルダはマリヴロンに慕う気持ちを伝えるが、マリヴロンはそれと同じだけの賞賛を返す。

Gilda, the daughter of a pastor who is about to leave for Africa, is her beloved Ms. Malivron.

Gilda begs Malivron to please take her with him.

Marivron says that it is much more admirable and artistic to devote oneself to the service of others as a pastor's daughter than what she is doing in a remote place.

Gilda expresses her adoration for Malivron, but Malivron replies with an equal amount of admiration.
