平家と源氏の争いが激しかった頃、源氏の大将義朝が家来の裏切りによって討たれました。

平家の大将清盛は、源氏の復讐を恐れて、義朝の三人の子も亡き者にしようとします。

義朝の妻常盤御前は、3人の子供を連れて、奈良の山中へ身を隠しました。

しかし、清盛は常磐の母を探し出して捉えました。

常磐は母の命を救うため、3人の子を連れて、清盛の前へ出ます。

親子の痛々しい様子を見て、清盛は命を助け、2人の子を出家させ、末の牛若はまだ乳飲み子でしたから、母の元へ残させました。

At a time when the conflict between the Heike and Minamoto clans was fierce, Yoshitomo, a general of the Minamoto clan, was killed by a betrayal of his retainer.

Kiyomori, a Heike general, fearing revenge from the Minamoto clan, attempted to have Yoshitomo's three children killed as well.

Yoshitomo's wife, Tokiwa Gozen, took her three children and hid in the mountains of Nara.

However, Kiyomori tracked down and captured Tokiwa's mother.

In order to save her mother's life, Tokiwa took her three children and went before Kiyomori.

Seeing the pain of the father and son, Kiyomori spared their lives and ordained two of the children, leaving the youngest, Ushiwaka, with his mother since he was still a baby.
