むかし加賀百万石の城下に長町という武士町があり、浅井多門という武士が住んでいました。

ある晩のこと、友だちのところで遊んで、遅く帰って来ました。

浅井の眼の前にひとりの若い女が歩いているのを、ふしぎに思いながら黙って眺めながら歩いていました。

いまごろ若い女が一人で歩くのはおかしな事だと考え、あるいは何かあやしいものではないかとも思い、うしろから静かに声をかけて見たのでした。

Once upon a time, there was a samurai town called Nagamachi under the castle of Kaga Hyakumangoku, where a samurai named Tamon Asai lived.

One night, he came home late after playing with his friends.

Asai saw a young woman walking in front of him, and wondered silently as he walked along.

Thinking that it was strange for a young woman to be walking alone at this time, and also wondering if there was something fishy about her, he quietly called out to her from behind.
