The narration is dreadful

The narration of this brilliant story is so dreadful that we had to stop listening. My daughter loves all these books because shes both a Lauren Childs and a spy story fan, but whoever is narrating this makes all the genius-level characters and instructors sound like bored, sarcastic, lobotomised surf dudes, and makes Mrs Drisco sound like an hysterical lunatic. Completely ruined it!

My daughter loves this book!

Another great Lies Bat book.

Another great book by one of my favorite children's' author and publisher Brian Lies. We have all of these books in our library and just like in previous books, look closely at the illustrations to see hints about what bands are playing and who the bat artists are mimicking. The rhyming is not quite as smooth as in previous books, but my kids still love hearing this over and over.

Try reading this and playing one or two of the kid friendly songs from the bands mentioned or illustrated. Lots of fun.

PERFECT!!

PRICELESS!!! PERFECT!!!! I bought this for my 4 year old granddaughter for Christmas. It came today and I just finished looking through it. She is going to flip over it! I did!!! The artwork is fantastic.... the bagpipe playing bat got to me! The only critique I might have is that it should come with a musical CD to play along with the reading. Other than that, it hit ALL the high notes!!! Thank you Brian Lies for reminding us that imagination is still alive and well in this modern day.

Lovely lyrics, gorgeous pictures

I bought it for my grand daughter to add to her Bat Books collection, and had to read it first because there's nothing better in the world of picture books than Brian Lies' gorgeous illustrations. The book is a feast for the eyes with lovely lyrics, perfect length for a bedtime read. It was a thrill to see the Priscilla Beach Theatre we love so much hosting Brain's jammin' bats. Now I'm going to have to get another copy for my grownup son. :-)

Series just keeps getting better - age 7 plus

The boys (aged 7 and 9) and I are having a whale of a time listening to this series and the third book didn't disappoint. From the knowing winks of the narrator ("Just wait till you get to the end ...") to the crazy action sequences involving sea serpents, giants, impossibly huge armored bugs, to the fact that the Great and Powerful Bandit King is actually 11, I practically can't find anything bad to say about this recording.

The only bad things is this - because the action rattles a long at speed, and there are LOTS of great jokes & a rather complicated plot, it's not ideal to be listened to in stop / start journeys like the school run. You could really do with time to listen to at least half an hour or so in one go, preferably longer. Having said that, don't let me put you off. The kids loved it.

Bronson Pinchot has a fabulous speaking voice and does lots of different characterizations. My favorite has to be the Southern Elf bounty hunter with his giant mongoose. However the boys point out that he has changed some of the characterization from the last book - probably because Bronson has a vast cast to deal with. There is also a bit more romantic interest in this one and (shock) a couple of kisses.

This is a very interesting story, but it is too short. I expected something more.
