    Another good one
This book was another great read from Patricia Macdonald. The characters were believable and likable. CAN'T WAIT TO READ ANOTHER!
Good book but what happened to Sean.
The only problem I had was that the youngest sibling wasn't mentioned that month. I felt he had been conveniently been sent on a trip so th plot wouldn't be overrun with characters. I can't imagine a brother not showing some concern for all that his family is going through. Throughput th book I kept wondering when he was going to come home and be with his family. Other than that it was a very good story with several twists and turns.
    Kept my attention.
I started it one day at 5:00 am...finished at 1:00 am....would think I had everything figured out, then BAM...another twist!
    Five Stars
    Brilliant!
    Stolen in the Night
You can never go wrong with Patricia MacDonald. She always keeps you on the edge of your seat. If you like a good mystery, you'll like Stolen in the Night.

    Publisher's Summary:
For Paul Copeland, the county prosecutor of Essex, New Jersey, mourning the loss of his sister has only recently begun to subside. Cope, as he is known, is now dealing with raising his six-year-old daughter as a single father after his wife has died of cancer. Is this homicide victim one of the campers who disappeared with his sister? Could his sister be alive? Cope has to confront so much he left behind that summer 20 years ago: his first love, Lucy; his mother, who abandoned the family; and the secrets that his Russian parents might have been hiding even from their own children. Cope must decide what is better left hidden in the dark and what truths can be brought to the light.

This, though a bit confusing in the beginning, has the Coban usual way in drawing you in. Unlike many writers where a confusing start turns me off, Coban has always managed to make me want to read more. Though i wouldn't say this is the best I ever read from him, I sill love all his books. The narrator is fabulous and is great in doing the voices of different characters. In some places the book make me laugh out loud, in some, made me sit puzzled and attempting to solve the mystery, but alway, always kept me at the edge of my chair.
Writng this a while after listening
Good solid thriller with elements which draw you in and keep you listening to see what happens.

    Language: English
    Release date: 08-15-06

    Publisher's Summary:
When an aging ex-con finally gets out of jail, freedom doesn't taste too sweet. His son is gunned down in a drive-by shooting. It seems like a random crime, but when the victim is a cop, especially a cop with a con for a father, the motives are never simple. When the hit is exposed as a revenge killing, and the question of police corruption is raised, it becomes a father's last duty to clear his son's name and catch the killer.
Gathering all the elements that have made Robert Crais one of the very best crime writers today, Two Minute Rule will grip and intrigue his legions of fans, and provide the perfect opportunity for new readers to discover the author who sets the standard when it comes to twisting plots and powerful characters.

    Members Reviews:
    Excellent and exciting story.
I've read quite a few books by this author and have never been disappointed. He knows how to make the reader care about the characters. I particularly appreciated how he explained the feelings of a recently released prisoner who had spent half his life in prison. It was enlightening and heartbreaking. I also found the strengths and weaknesses of the former FBI agent were more interesting than if she hadn't had her own issues to deal with.
I liked their relationship. You couldn't call it romantic, but you knew it had a good chance of heading in that direction.
Worth reading, despite my 3-star rating.
First, the characters are better than one-dimensional, illustrating the problem of being asked to use multiple choice regarding art. I have read many Crais novels and this is not one of the best; however, it kept me interested until the last page. It is a good read, not requiring much of the reader. Little of the delightful prose of other novels. Wish the title had been The Fifth Man, despite the fact that a novel with that title was published in 2002 (Google). Since titles cannot be copyrighted, I wish it had been otherwise, since once you know what the two minute rule is, well, nothing to think about. Especially interesting was the novel-long attempt of the main character, a long-time non-violent criminal just released from a 10-year prison sentence, to not only change into someone who abides by the law but also to deal with the constant regret of a man who neglected his son and his son's mother. Thus the major conflict is his attempt to be law abiding when his policeman son has been murdered and accused of malfeasance. The plot progresses as he attempts to find the truth about his son in conflict with the some elements of the LAPD and the FBI which are corrupt. Was his son corrupt, also, or not? Thus his guilt is increased as he fears his own unlawful history had created a dishonest son. Enter the female FBI agent who arrested him after his last bank robbery but also asked for his ameliorated sentence because he allowed himself to be caught in order to save a life. She is retired but itching for action, especially in response to a good cause.

    easy listening.
What did you like most about Jigsaw?
its about rona's family as much as the crime scenario she gets involved in.
its a different slant on a crime story.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Jigsaw?
there are a few but it would spoil the book to write them here.
Have you listened to any of Jacqueline Tongs other performances? How does this one compare?
the only one is the first book in the series. Jacqueline performs the book well bringing the characters to life.
    Any additional comments?
I enjoyed listening to the book, well written with good characterisation and plot where you get involved with the characters as well as the situations they find themselves in.

Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Modern Detective
    Publisher's Summary:
In this seventh outing for Sister Mary Helen and her co-conspirator, Sister Eileen, the two nuns take time out from their duties at Mount St. Francis College in San Francisco when a wealthy widow, a benefactor of the college and dear friend, is the second victim of a local rapist-murderer. And if that weren't enough to make the nuns take the crime personally (and infuriate the homicide detective in charge, who has had experience with these feisty elderly nuns before), the policeman husband of a former student (herself a cop) is severely wounded in a confrontation with the criminal.
Between juggling their regular duties, ducking the notice of the detectives on the case, and a well-meaning plan to straighten out the life of a sad young woman employed by the college library, Sister Mary Helen and Sister Eileen have their hands full. But, as criminals, law enforcement types, and their fellow nuns have discovered, there's no stopping the pair if they feel their involvement is called for.
Not all the villains in the engrossing mystery are criminals; there are a couple of mothers who would delight Sigmund Freud. But the many reader-friendly characters, and especially the two elderly nuns, make this a charming as well as exciting listen.
    Critic Reviews:
"O'Marie delivers compelling characters and sophisticated plotting in her best effort to date." (Publishers Weekly)
"[There is a] depth to the novel beyond the level of a simple whodunit. Hard to put down." (Booklist)

    Sisterly mystery
I didn't warm to this book as much as I did "Requiem at the Refuge" in the same series. The irrepressibly investigative nun who appears throughout the series shines here as well. I was able to guess the identity of the killer early on, though, which made it a little less fun.
    Difficult for me.
Somehow this story seemed to impress with its dreariness - relentless dreariness. The religious aspect helped me but the only exciting moment happens for me when I can see it's almost over.
The characters are fine and well-described, and easily understood - maybe too easily - a charicature of their respective types?
This is my first Sister Helen story - but halfway thru the series. I may go back to the earlier books and try again - they are said to be good, but unless I can become interested in the characters, I may not be able to appreciate its goodness.
    Thanksomuch.

    Riveting.
A great yarn. The depravity of it all is brought to life by a fabulous narrator. Really good fun.
    Kept me awake!
Having been a recent convert to crime fiction through the Harry Bosch series it was interesting to listen to a title that was set where I live in London (no glorious sunsets over the LA landscape for Detective Thorne). It was shaky start but I ended up gripped at this hard-worn, world weary detective who is driven (sorry for the cliche) but flawed (and another). At the end of this story I went straight out and got the second book 'Scaredy Cat'.
    Utterly Brilliant
Now here is a book to get your teeth into. Sleepy Head is the first book by this author and a fantastic start was made. The plot is cunning, twisting, methodical and curiously engrossing. I found myself listening at every opportunity I could manage. The characters are lifelike and believable which traits that play into the plot well.
The book was read superbly and the narrators voice fitted the story well. The pace was excellent and the quality crisp and clear, with no changes in tone etc.
I really enjoyed this book, it was a pleasure to hear and I have already set my next listens to pick up the remaining books by this author. I can see me having to bump up my subscription.
    Mark Billingham's 'Thorne'
My first 'Inspector Thorne' book and was not disappointed.
I bought this Audibook for iPod to take on holiday for poolside 'reading' but ended up listening before!
But not to worry I have book 2- if I can keep away from the play button!!
    Not Your Average Crime Novel
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes I would. It's not the run of the mill crime book.
Who was your favorite character and why?
    The leading character Tom Thorne.
    Any additional comments?
The narration by Robert Glenister was OUTSTANDING. I am the sort of person whose enjoyment of a story can be ruined by bad narration. But this reader has a beautiful voice, minimal accent, and he really dramatized the story. Superb. Will definitely be listening to more of his narration.

    Funny and Funny!!!
What a great book to keep you entertained, yet engaged as each chapter builds its mysterious cliff hanger. The narrator is so perfect for the story. She is articulate and has the right tone for each character. Bravo on this selection.
Witty, funny, engaging, light mystery....what more could I ask for!
    I loved it!
This book was just great fun. The reader was wonderful, slipping easily in and out of characters and the mystery element kept me going. Jane Stanton Hitchcock has a real feel for upper crust New York society, the older money, the jockeying for position. If it was not a perfectly constructed tale, it was one of those times you really didn't care because the ride was so fun. I'm getting another of her books now.
    Loved this book!
This book got me hooked on reading all the rest of Jane Stanton Hitchcock's books. I certainly don't fly in the high society world that Jo Slater does, and I have no idea how true it is, but I found the characters engaging and the suspense intriguing. Barbara Rosenblatt is an entertaining reader.
    entertaining summer listen
Sassy, funny entertatining and suspenseful, this high-society mystery-thriller will keep you interested without demanding too much concentration. Perfect for road trips, poolside or cardio. Long, but not boring at all.
    Hooked:
I thought that this was an excellent read. However, as the story unfolded it got even better. I was in a trance! I could not stop listening. Every moment was exciting. I highly recommend, it is worth it.

When Father Wheatley decided to convert from the Anglican Church to the Roman Catholic, he thought he had fully considered the sacrifices he would have to make. He understood the strain the change would put on his wife and children, and the challenges he would face to be accepted as a married Roman Catholic priest. He even acknowledged that reactionaries in both religious camps would oppose such a spiritual changeover. But he never dreamed that his decision would breed such waves of ambition, jealousy, and hatred that the ultimate human sacrifice, murder, would be the result. With his knowledge of human nature and experience, Father Robert Koesler is called upon to resolve the murder mystery and to give true understanding to the concept of sacrifice.

William X. Kienzle Does a Great Job Combining Mystery and Religious Philosophy
William X. Kienzle's 'Father Koesler Mysteries' are among my favorite books. Mr. Kienzle is a former priest and is able to spin a wonderful mystery while at the same time, bring into the discussion some of the questions that beset the Catholic Church without condemning it. This particular book touches on the fairly new practice of allowing married Anglican Priests into the Catholic Priesthood and the effect on both the traditional Catholics and the traditional Anglicans swirled about the death of a priest. It is a true 'who done it' in its best form. I always enjoy Mr. Kienzle's books but this one was especially interesting.
    Good read
Especially interesting for Catholics as he weaves a mystery around the workings of the seminary and the Church. Enjoyed it
    Journey to Priesthood
I've been a fan of William X. Kienzle since way back when. In this case, "when" being my introduction to the thoughtful clerical detective, Father Robert Koesler, in Kienzle's first two mysteries, "The Rosary Murders" and "Death Wears a Red Hat." In "The Sacrifice," Father Koesler's twenty-third appearance, Kienzle explores an ecumenical setting dear to my heart: the relationship between the Anglican and Roman Catholic churches, two denominations that are remarkably similar, vastly different, and deeply misunderstood by the other. To facilitate the plot, the author not only brings Father Koesler out of retirement, but his friend and Watson, the courtly and devout Inspector Walter Koznicki, as well.
Father George Wheatley is an Episcopal priest who is taking advantage of the so-called "Anglican Use Provision" in the Roman Catholic Church that allows priests in the Anglican Communion to be reordained in the Roman church despite being married. Father Wheatley's motives for his switch are complex and engender opposition both from his family and from Anglican and Roman traditionalists.

    Vintage Pelecanos
Since I have read the unabridged version and listened to the abridged this is one of the better shortenings I've come across. This is also an early exposition of Derek Strange and why he came to leave the police force. Pelecanos demonstrates his usual exceptional quality at character development and well captivating storyline. Excellent crime story. A fine place to start if you have not read Pelecanos before.
    Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda
If I woulda known that for some reason this book needed a overbearing musical soundtrack at all the wrong moments, I coulda saved myself the money on this one. I shoulda just said NO.
Please, it certainly ruined this book for me... at times i could not hear the narrator. I was in format 2 which might not be conducive to quality music...but listen folks ... if i want to watch TV i will... please do not impose a soundtrack - hey we like the books the way they are. Or at least identify when a book has a significant soundtrack so that I can avoid them. OTher than that this book coulda been a contender for a good quick read .. :^ )
    Annoying audio book
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
    not the audiobook
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
    its a little preachy
What didnt you like about Lance Reddicks performance?
The read of the book is fine but at various points swelling background music is added in the background, i guess to make it more emotional. It's very distracting and makes it seem like the target audience is young children.
I prefer to navigate a book on my own and not be directed as to which points are important or moving.
