Wonderful, I read this after Mercy Street and am on to the next! The twists and turns had me going let me tell you! I truly loved this book. The characters took on such a reality that you felt like you knew them from somewhere. How good is that I ask? I know this is not a new book, but that does not mean that it is not just terrific, because it most certainly is and I will tell others to look for it and I will share my copy of course! :-) Thank you Mariah Stewart for you great imagination! and the joy you give others even if it is a bit scary! hah! Loved it

Slow to Start, But Finishes Great

At the end of Mercy Street, the previous book, the extremely wealthy, Robert Magellan, his cousin Father Kevin and former cop, Mallory Russo decide to open up The Mercy Street Foundation. It's sole purpose is to fund investigations into missing person cases that the police have given up on.

Cry Mercy is the story of the first case the foundation takes on. But first they need staff.

Ann Nolan is a police officer with the Silver Hills, California police department. When she learns of a rumor on the streets, that the Mexican drug lord Anthony Navarro, is looking for his only child and is willing to pay handsomely for the information. His child is the same child that Ann legally adopted four years earlier. Fearing for her child, Ann fills out an online application to work for the Mercy Street Foundation as an investigator. With the help of her best friend and the chief of police, she assumes the identity of a fallen officer, Emme Caldwell. And heads east to the small town of Conroy, Pennsylvania. And hopefully a safe place for her and Chloe.

Nick Perone's niece, Belinda has been missing for five months, the police have run out of leads and they have other cases that need their attention. So in desperate need for some sort of answers, Nick submits an application for help from the new foundation to search for missing persons.

He and "Emme" work closely together and following up on a lead, they learn that Belinda has been in contact with other children like herself. Children whose mother's used the same sperm donor. Donor 1735. As they get closer to the answers of Belinda's whereabouts, Emme learns that she has traded one monster for another. And this one is determined to put an end to her meddling.

This story deals with a cold case. There is a lot of footwork and digging for information. For me this book dragged. But once they get on the right tract, it picked up and was really good. Fast paced and intense. If you can get through the first several chapters it's a great story.

We also learn more about Robert's missing wife and his infant son. Some questions are answered but those answers lead to more questions.

Overall I liked the book, it wasn't the best in the series but it was a good read. I'm looking forward to the next one.

another great plot and storyline from Lynda. I get a little frustrated with the Langton relationship and the story seemed to wrap up quickly in the end. That being said, I enjoyed it and will download another in the series. Narrator is wonderful

Highly Entertaining Thriller

Deadly Intent is the fourth Anna Travis book by Lynda La Plante, and well worth the read. Anna has worked two investigations since her breakup with now Chief Superintendent James Langton, and fortunately did not see him on either case.

Now, a former Murder Squad detective has been murdered at a drug den, and the Squad sets up for yet another investigation headed this time by the formidable DCI Carol Cunningham.

Anna was onto Alexander Fitzpatrick from the beginning, but no one would believe her. As the body count rose, and Langton became more involved in the case, Anna's stress level rose accordingly. To add to her woes, she was accused of going off on her own without involving or updating the rest of the team.

La Plante has written an intense follow-up to her other successful Anna Travis mysteries. Her books are well-researched providing an uncanny look into the heart, mind, and soul of the antagonist, providing the reader with a chilling sense of what motivates him.

This book is a gem. Well plotted and fast-paced throughout, the ending is beyond surprising. I never saw it coming.

But if you want an engaging, provacative police procedural with plenty of action to keep you entertained for hours, than this is the book for you.

Laser removal of fingerprint

What a shame. The villain went to so much effort to remove his finger prints only to have them identify him once more. Old photos and fingerprints were used to identify him to the police. All the surgery and laser print removal made no difference. It was as if that chapter at the beginning of the book must have belonged to another story, as it played no part as the story unfolded. He was still able to be detected by prints taken in Oxfordshire 30 years ago. These inconsistencies spoilt the flow of the story

Small town Texas at its finest

What made the experience of listening to A Mammoth Murder the most enjoyable?

The fact that it captures the characteristics and flavor of small town life so well.

What was one of the most memorable moments of A Mammoth Murder?

The banter of the workers in the sheriffs department. and his frustration at trying to get information out of them.

Have you listened to any of George Guidalls other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, I have listen to all of the Cat Who series and these series is just as awesome. He is as much Sheriff Rhodes as he is Qwilleran.

Truly a Cult Mystery Thriller

This was a slow-starter, but I ended up really enjoying it. I like to listen to a book while I walk, so I need something that keeps me going. I did my Saturday morning exercise and ended up finishing the book when I got home...had to find out what happened, and I was surprised by the finale. I didn't like the narrator at first, but once I got used to her voice, it was fine. I will try another Meg Gardiner.

Shape Shifter PI Series

The Chase Dagger Mysteries by Lee Driver is an odd mystery series that intrigues me.

In "The Good Die Twice", Native American Sara is a shape-shifter (hawk/wolf) who helps Private Investigator (P.I.) Chase Dagger solve crimes. Yes, it sounds weird--but it works for me. Although Sara and Chase are just P.I. partners, they live in Sara's house with Chase's pet scarlet macaw named Einstein who has a photographic memory. They have a chase (no pun intended) relationship that I like; the TV series "Blue Moon" was ruined for me when P.I.s Addison and Maddy got romantically involved.

The second book, "Full Moon-Bloody Moon", finds Sara and Chase pursuing another shape-shifter who is the bad guy in this story. Sara makes a life-changing decision after she understands she could have gone rogue instead of the better path she chose.

In "The Unseen", Sara has gained more personal confidence (as she was raised very protectively by her grandmother on a reservation) and their investigation centers on an invisibility cloak. We find out a little more about Chase's secret military organization past.

Further information about Chase's past and his association with Sara is revealed in "Chasing Ghosts."

The last book, so far, is "Fatal Storm." This book is an anomaly in the series because Sara's shape shifting abilities and Chase's fighting talents take a back seat while they validate a Paranormal Investigation Team that is investigating a haunted house and Chase's old girlfriend gets caught up in a time warp.

I love this series. Dagger and Sara are magical together. lots of humor, mystery along with action and suspense. The story telling from this author makes me want to read her Sam casey series under her pen name S.D. Tooley.

Lee Driver series - Chase Dagger

I enjoyed the first one of the series so much, I purchased the whole series and read them one after the other. I found them very interesting to read and enjoyed finding out more about the characters in each book. I found the concept of shape shifting interesting and am really looking forward to finding out more about Chase's life beforehand; that's a mystery still to be solved.

I find Lee's writing is excellent and her concept well researched and her writing thoughtfully provoking. Thanks so much for this series, keep them coming.
