Disappointing series finale - worst in the series
What would have made Up in Flames better?
I am SO horribly disappointed in this much anticipated series finale. The characters are shallow. The dialogue is repetitive and whiny. The story is confusing, unbelievable, and ridiculous. The entire plot is one big hole. In much of the book, Nan herself isn't sure if she is dreaming. The entire 'crime family' story line, which began in When I'm Gone, seems both contrived and unnecessary, and there is no resolution for plots and characters from previous books. This book does NOT live up to the precedent set in the rest of the series, and as a series finale, it is completely unsatisfactory.
Would you ever listen to anything by Abbi Glines again?
Yes. I own 25 of her books, and I have loved all but this one.
Would you be willing to try another one of Sophie Eastlake and Jeremy York s performances?
Yes. I didn't love Sophie Eastlake's 'male' voice, and I didn't love Jeremy York's differentiation in the male voices, but these factors did not make the listening experience any worse. The book was just bad overall, so I would be willing to try both narrators again.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Up in Flames?
Too much needs edited/added in this book, so I can't adequately answer this question.
Ugh...
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
No. I am a die hard Abbl Glines fan and still find it hard to believe she wrote it.
What was most disappointing about Abbi Gliness story?
The story didn't really have a solid plot. It is messy and disjointed. Truly disappointing.
What does Sophie Eastlake and Jeremy York bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
They are both awesome narrators. They did a fine job with what they had to work with.
Do you think Up in Flames needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
No. Rosemary Beach is done.
Any additional comments?
This book just makes me sad. I always look forward to Abbi Gline's latest releases and it was a struggle to finish this one.
Thank goodness for good narrative
I'm so disappointed in the final installment of rosemary beach books. Nan never uttered the words "I'm sorry". Not once. How is that redemption from all the horrible things she said and did in 12 previous books. We were TOLD to understand that she had a bad upbringing. That nobody could handle honest Nan. Well, honesty and what she did were two different things.
Also, Major was an idiot. He was not admirable. At all.
There was nothing except instant lust, between nan and her hearts desire. No friendship, no honesty (on his part). And well, she admitted to not knowing him.
