    The endless flashbacks from hell
These books could have been hood... BUT the author for some reason felt the need to endlessly inturupt the story with these needless flashnacks. You get the idea of what happened the first time. Really the break up and detract from the story and if I didn't get them for free I wouldn't have read them.
A GOOD POTENTIAL STORY LINE BUT
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
story line has potential BUT author is WAY to preoccupied with adolescent hormonal rages and her descriptions thereof WAY overdone. I'm just a few chapters in & already loosing interest. If you like twilight like stories you'd probably like this
Has Darkness Fair turned you off from other books in this genre?
depends on what genre you'd put this in
Which character as performed by Will Damron and Kate Rudd was your favorite?
    none
Do you think Darkness Fair needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
not the way this one is going
    freekin awsome!
I have loved every minute of this book ! The actors are so terrific!
    will defenetly be buying
I love these books. they are very immersing and detailed and the story has u on edge the whole time. all of the unexpected things that u'd love in a good book this one has. very worth owning the series.
    Story continues to engage

    Title: Sword and Verse

Length: 11 hrs and 34 mins

    Release date: 01-19-16
    Publisher: HarperAudio
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 33 votes
    Genres: Teens, Ages 11-13
    Publisher's Summary:
In a sweeping fantasy that award-winning author Franny Billingsley called "fascinating and unique", debut author Kathy MacMillan weaves palace intrigue and epic world building to craft a tale for fans of Rae Carson and Megan Whalen Turner.
Raisa was just a child when she was sold into slavery in the kingdom of Qilara. Before she was taken away, her father had been adamant that she learn to read and write. But where she now lives, literacy is a capital offense for all but the nobility. The written language is closely protected, and only the king, prince, tutor, and tutor-in-training are allowed to learn its very highest form. So when she is plucked from her menial labor and selected to replace the last tutor-in-training, who was executed, Raisa knows that betraying any hint of her past could mean death.
Keeping her secret guarded is hard enough, but the romance that's been blossoming between her and Prince Mati isn't helping matters. Then Raisa is approached by the Resistance - an underground rebel army - to help liberate the city's slaves. She wants to free her people, but that would mean aiding a war against Mati. As Raisa struggles with what to do, she discovers a secret that the Qilarites have been hiding for centuries - one that, if uncovered, could bring the kingdom to its knees.

Hormonal Teenagers in the middle of a Slave Revolt
Would you consider the audio edition of Sword and Verse to be better than the print version?
I haven't read the print version. Thus, I can't make a comparison. Though I did notice that some parts of the audiobook seem to interchange Linea and Lorea(?) who are different characters
What was one of the most memorable moments of Sword and Verse?
Definitely when Raisa finally finds out the meaning of her Heart Verse. And when she manages to save people with it
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I could have done without Raisa and Mati being hormonal teenagers. Or Raisa having to ponder constantly on her relationship with Mati. To be honest, I find the book a LOT more interesting when it has little to nothing to do with Mati. In other words, when the book focuses more on Raisa's stints with the Resistance and the book's mythology.
    Any additional comments?
Readers/Listeners who don't care much about the heroine pining a lot about her beloved might have to bear with it in order to appreciate the book as a whole. Because I've noticed a lot of pining. And I feel that some readers/listeners would have issue with the romance as Raisa was very naive going into a relationship with Prince Mati, who is technically her owner and expected to marry some noble girl to bear the next heir.
This is not to say that Mati is the worst guy ever. Because he does do some redeeming actions. However, that back and forth of that relationship as well as Raisa thinking so much about Mati (and thus, focus being turned away from the Slave Resistance and the current political turmoil -ie the more interesting bits of the book) makes me even more unsympathetic of their love.
But personally, I think the book makes up for it by introducing that universe's mythology and how much it actually bears relevance to the things happening to Raisa's world.

    Great story
Great book but way to short live the series and it was nice w to get some of the history about Lena.
    good book
the only reason for the four stars and not five it's because it was very short but good anyways.
    How Lena survived...
Once again, more questions get answered in this third installment of the untold stories series. We learn how Lena survived the fire that Serafine brought upon the house. We also see how Ridley is before she's claimed and how she's claimed dark makes sense because she is very mischievous and not a fan of mortals.

Abandoned by her family and separated from Bishop Lattimer, Ivy must find a way to survive on her own in a land filled with countless dangers, both human and natural. She has traded a more civilized type of cruelty - forced marriages and murder plots - for the bare-knuckled brutality required to survive outside Westfall's borders.
But there is hope beyond the fence as well. And when Bishop reappears in Ivy's life, she must decide if returning to Westfall to take a final stand for what she believes is right is worth losing everything she's fought for.

    Not an EPIC Revolution
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I listened to this book based on my love for Ivy and Bishop's relationship, which (in my opinion) is the very backbone of the series. Thus, If you want Ivy and Bishop developing their relationship, then I suppose this is time well spent.
If you want more focus on the political and social situation of Westfall and the world it inhabits, unfortunately, you'd be disappointed. Because it seems to me as nothing more than a prop to Ivy and Bishop's romance.
Would you recommend The Revolution of Ivy to your friends? Why or why not?
I'd only recommend it to those who want a resolution to The Book of Ivy. To be fair, it did tie up loose ends. But just not in a way that I would have liked.
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
I think the narrator was good. But I guess, I'm just comparing her to other narrators I've heard. I've listened to other narrators that seemed to be so into the story that I definitely felt moved by their performance. The narration for the Revolution of Ivy is really just that. A Narration. Reading the book aloud.
Do you think The Revolution of Ivy needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
I honestly thought that the Ivy Series would focus on both Ivy & Bishop's romance as well as the socio-political situation of their world. But Book 2 pretty much shows me that the series is really all about the romance. And on that front, I think that it already reached the conclusion it needs. Thus, I think that the book should end at that point.
    Any additional comments?
I had high hopes for a great sequel. But I guess I was just expecting something epic (perhaps involving explosions and a bit of a war) considering it was called "The Revolution of Ivy."
However, it wasn't like that at all. And I feel a little let down on that front.
On the other hand, at least it ended in a satisfying manner (in my opinion) with no more obstacles to the two lovebirds being together
A fitting ending for Ivy, Bishop, and Westfall!
Revolution picks up where The Book of Ivy left off--right after Ivy's banishment from Westfall. She soon runs into trouble beyond devastating thirst and hunger, testing her strength, adaptability, and convictions. Just how far will she go to survive?
Though Ivy showed a tremendous amount of courage and growth throughout the book, I have to admit she tried my patience more than once. I can understand her reluctance to trust her new acquaintances, but her attitude when Bishop shows up? And the fact that the attitude continued for quite some time? Harder to swallow. Bishop deserves a medal for waiting through her crazy until she finally got her head on straight.
But then, he IS Bishop Lattimer.

    Five Stars
    Love this book
For years now we have been enjoying her beautiful story books with all the littles in our lives
I have a secret confession to make. Any book with the name Sally Lloyd-Jones on it I want. I donât even have to open it up to know that I want it. Her name on the cover is enough to make me put it in my cart. Why is that you ask? Itâs because I can be assured that she is going to take the readerâs hand and draw them to Jesus.
For years now we have been enjoying her beautiful story books with all the littles in our lives. She teams up with a talented artist and the two of them create a masterpiece that brings the wonderful words and concepts of Scripture to life. If youâve not enjoyed one of her books with your kids you are missing out.
In the back of my mind I have always thought it would be lovely to read an adult book written by her. She has such a gentle way with words that quietly brings the Gospel into your reading experience. Well, my wish has somewhat come true. With the release of The Story Of Godâs Love For You I can now unashamedly bask in the beautiful words that bring me into the presence of God.
The Story of Godâs Love For You is the adult version of The Jesus Storybook Bible. The words are the same but it is packaged for an adult to read. There are forty-four short chapters that lead you through the beautiful love story of the Bible. This book is a must for all the worn out mommas out there!
It would be perfect for those moments when you just need to regroup. Think about where you go to escape the madness. Is it the bathroom, the laundry room, or even the car in the garage? Wherever it is keep a copy of this book there and when you think you are about to lose your marbles go there and read a chapter. Youâll be exposed to the flawed people that God chose to use to bring about His perfect plan. Every time I read a chapter it reminds me that none of us are perfect but God is and has a part designed just for you in the midst of the crazy day-to-day.
Maybe you're an empty-nester like me. I recently took it with us on a business trip and read it aloud to my husband as we were driving.

    Publisher's Summary:
A captivating and profound debut novel about complicated love and the friendships that have the power to transform you forever. Perfect for fans of The Perks of Being a Wallflower.
Mira is starting over at Saint Francis Prep. She promised her parents she would at least try to pretend that she could act like a functioning human this time, not a girl who can't get out of bed for days on end, who feels awake only when she's with Sebby.
Jeremy is the painfully shy art nerd at Saint Francis who's been in self-imposed isolation after an incident that ruined his last year of school. When he sees Sebby for the first time across the school lawn, it's as if he's been expecting this blond, lanky boy with mischief glinting in his eye.
Sebby, Mira's gay best friend, is a boy who seems to carry sunlight around with him. Even as life in his foster home starts to take its toll, Sebby and Mira together craft a world of magic rituals and impromptu road trips, designed to fix the broken parts of their lives.
As Jeremy finds himself drawn into Sebby and Mira's world, he begins to understand the secrets that they hide in order to protect themselves, to keep each other safe from those who don't understand their quest to live for the impossible.
    Members Reviews:
    Angsty Good
Book told from three points of view. Mira, third person narrator, suffers from depression and missed 9 months her last school year. Just transferred to St. F private school. She meets Jeremy, first person narrative, who has trouble fitting in thanks to prejudices and bullying. Sebby, second person past tense voice, seemingly carefree inserts humor and drama into most situations. Clever use of voice and a welcome change from the first person narrative most YA authors seem to employ.
The characters are full of angst and dread for the paths they walk, yet find solace in the company of each other. This isn't a sweet, feel good, easy read. It's more realistic and combats our views on homosexuality; the impact of being fat; living up to unrealistic expectations of parents; and finding true friendship and purpose. Written in the same vein as Stephen Chbosky, "The Perks of Being a Wallflower." Enjoyed this immensely.
The story is good, not great.
Imani Parks is a sub-par narrator, so listening to her parts was a little difficult. The development of the characters seemed to be lacking and the overall story was derivative.
    Intense
This story is hard on many levels, but is important to hear. I will look for other books by this author.
    A warning
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This book is only good for teenagers, people who were teenagers, or are going to be teenagers.

Evolved Publishing presents a young adult apocalyptic adventure from the multiple award-winning author of The Zombie West series and The Desert series.
The end of the world? That's the stuff of Hollywood blockbusters and deep philosophical exercises in school. No need to sweat it. So when 16-year-old Tess's doomsday-dad builds a bomb shelter in their suburban backyard, everyone thinks he's gone crazy.... Until fire rains down from the sky, sinking whole cities into colossal craters and setting much of the world ablaze.
Tess' dad gives her a few short minutes to gather her emergency bag and her freaked-out kitten, then leads her outside and into the underground shelter. Terrified, the last thing she expects is for him to leave her there all alone, but he has no choice - he must find her missing brother.
Before leaving, he makes Tess promise to keep the hatch door shut, not to open it for anyone but him, and to stay put until he returns. But he forgot to tell her one thing: What is she supposed to do if he never comes back?
    Members Reviews:
Very good but makes no sense
There are no zombies. No guns. No action. No problems surviving, everything they could just pick off shelves. Mostly just two characters. No explanation for the bizzare end of the world events; meteors, inexplicably powerful storms and everyones just vanished. The story is very good and intrigueing until you realize you've come to the end and nothing makes sense. Reminds me of the TV series "Lost".
Yet Tess is an incredibly endearing character well portrayed by the narrator. At first I thought her reading as amateurish but some parts she executed brilliantly and smoothly. I realized she was just portraying an insecure, hesistent, lonely and frieghtened girl.
Tess meets a guy and there is some friction and romance going on; thats basically what the story is about. Except he is one of these mysterious things that dont make sense either.
So three stars for a very satisfying book which I totally do not regret buying, but would appreciate more if there was a sequel or any of it made sense.
    Entertaining and original
Once upon a time, people were ok with stand-alone novels. Ever since Harry Potter and other books of its generation, it's now taken for granted that a story isn't fully developed if it isn't made into a series, even if by the third book the author seems to have exhausted his/her ideas and starts to pull cliches out of a bag of tricks to try to keep the story going. I've read many reviews in which the main complaint about "Anyone?" was that this is it, this book is all we get, the writer isn't planning a sequel. I can see why that might be frustrating, because we want to know more of certain characters and we want to know why it all happened. On the other hand, I like that, the same as the characters, we're left wondering, because sometimes life is like that, we don't get all the answers. I did feel the novel has many plot holes, such as the fact that the characters who're still alive barely find remains of those who died from whatever happened in the first part of the novel and whatever is going on in the rest of it. This is especially questionable when they go into cities and there's barely any signs of human casualties. Too convenient, in my opinion, although I wondered if we don't see these signs because the main character is also blind to them due to denial.

    Much Better
Would you listen to Firewalker again? Why?
Yes, I might when I do my usual re-listen of the books in my library.
What did you like best about this story?
I just love the broken down mechanics of magic. Magic isn't some flighty element that someone just HAS for the fun of it. No unicorns and rainbows. Magic has to be built up with so many components with the help of others. It's dirty and bloody and gross. Logical, hard worked for magic is the best magic.
The muddied morality of each character is a beautiful breath of fresh air, as well. Not everyone is straight evil and not everyone is a saint.
Also, I liked the additional characters brought into this novel so that the two worlds intermingle and are just plain messed up.
What does Emma Galvin bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
First of all, I highly enjoy her performance in this series.
There must be something in Lily's character that really makes Emma Galvin give it her all when performing that the "Divergent Series" didn't have. Perhaps it's the POV and first person just isn't the best for Emma. I've listened to her rendition of "Mediator: Haunted," and though anything would be better than the "Divergent" Tris whine, Emma just seems to be more comfortable in third person.
That being said, I don't think I could listen to another narrator when the third novel comes out. I swear, if they go down the usual road of getting a male narrator to voice out some lines after two solid novels of just a solo reader, I WILL...still listen to it, but be peeved.
There are a lot of characters, and although no one can top Jim Dale in the voice-to-each-character department, she did a fine job giving the voices just what they needed to avoid confusion.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Hmn, there is one specific instance that I'm sure everyone is aware of. Lily promises something that I believe my fellow listeners were like, "Nope! Lily, you silly girl, can't you see you've promised yourself into a plot device that you'll later regret down the road? Geeze!"
    Any additional comments?
If you had doubts from the first novel, this one should smooth out the wrinkles for you.
    Miscommunication after miscommunication
A series based on miscommunications draws reader in over and over again to dump her in a morass of frustration.
    great story, terrible narrator
I really enjoyed this story. It was a bit predictable, but it was very well told.
