One girl... Two werewolf packs... What will she choose?
Samara's first date with Luke, the hot new guy at school, didn't go exactly the way she planned. She figured they would stargaze and maybe share a kiss at the end of the night, but she couldn't have prepared for what really happened. She was bitten by a wolf, and not just any wolf: a werewolf.
After she shifts for the first time, she meets her new pack's alpha in the woods. While he answers a lot of her questions, he remains in his wolf form during their meetings to keep his identity a secret. She wonders who this mysterious wolf is and why he bit her.
As Samara begins to learn more about her family secret and how it plays into her new life as a werewolf, she realizes that she has an important decision to make, one that could hurt the ones she cares about most. She must choose between two werewolf packs: the one that she's destined to be in and the one that she feels she belongs in.
Howl is a suspenseful tale of secrets, betrayal, and forbidden romance.
This audiobook is recommended for ages 10 and up due to mild language, underage drinking, and mild sexual references.

Like all the other two authors books I've read in the past, I enjoyed this one as well.
    Great Book!
    Any additional comments?
This is a great book; this is the first book in the Howl series by Jody and Jayme Morse. Samara was excited about her first date with Luke, the hot new guy at school. However, on her date she ends up getting bitten by a werewolf. She ends up shifting and meets the Alpha of her new pack, but she doesnt know who he is because he never shifts to his human body. She learns about a secret her family has been keeping and soon has to make some decisions that can affect her future.
The narrator Meghan Kelly did a great job with this book, and was very easy to listen to. She did a great job with the different voices of each character in this book. It was very easy to listen to in one sitting and I didnt want to stop listening until the end.
If you are looking for a book with a great story, and characters then you need to listen to this book. I am looking forward to listening to the next book by this author and narrator.
A Review copy was provided to me in exchange for a fair and honest review. The free book held no determination on my personal review.
Unable to get away from this book!
This was edge of my seat excitement! I couldn't put it down. The Overall description of Sam's feelings as she began to experience her new way of life made it feel as if the reader went through this themselves. An understanding of the life of a teen living in a rural setting with the added pressure of learning that everyone expected so much from her gave the story a sense of realism throughout.
The narrator made the story come alive by using the best tone of voice when depicting the various scenes. Excitement, wonderment and sarcasm were depicted through various sciences.

    4.5 STARS
DAUGHTER OF DEEP SILENCE was the most fascinating, most original, most thrilling, and most intriguing book I have read in a very long time! I've read so many great book this year, but DAUGHTER OF DEEP SILENCE was so different then any of them that it made it stand out from the crowd, and made me see it in a different point view.
The concept of DAUGHTER OF DEEP SILENCE was fascinating, and the more I read, the more I wondered how I would feel and what I would do if I was put in the same situation as Frances. And every angle I looked at it, their was no good outcome! And I could fiercely understand why Frances dedicated her life for revenge. And the way she devised her viscus plan was not only devious and conniving, but also down right brilliant and fabulous. And though some may not find the justice in the vengeance and revenge that Frances dished out, but I surly did. I guess that's why I connected with this book the way I did. Like Libby AKA Frances said:
"There's no better feeling than the deliciousness of a well-crafted plan executed perfectly."
I think that says it perfectly...
Carrie Ryan is absolutely brilliant!! This is my first revenge story, and though the whole vowing vengeance on someone is not a plot that I particularly love, but not one I hate either. But something about DAUGHTER OF DEEP SILENCE drew me in and had me desperately craving it's vindictive adventure. Although I still don't think revenge stories will become one of my favorite genres, but if their as fierce, plot driven, and skillfully written as Ryan's, then I would jump at the chance for another good revenge story like this!
I loved the world-building of the DAUGHTER OF DEEP SILENCE! It intrigued me from the minute I read the synopsis. And I'm not just talking about the revenge perspective of it either. I'm talking about the whole idea about a ship of people being murdered and it twisted to be a natural disaster. And the aspect of falling in love on a dazzling ship, and then having it all ripped away by a vicious event that changed their lives forever. And I LOVED the idea of a Titanic-like novel, but with the revenge twist!!
But I have to admit, as much as I loved this book I still found certain parts to be a little absurd, and over the top. I can't say what these issues were without spoiling it for you, and trust me, you don't want me to do that.

    Love This Series
Indie is back and she is freaking out, literally, she has spent the last few weeks looking for her best friend Paige with no luck. She has tried every spell that she and her boyfriend Bishop can think of, but witchcraft has done her no good. And she is getting tired of people telling her that it's not her fault, she knows that it's her fault that Paige was kidnapped by the Priory. And now that the Priory is destroyed? Finding Paige it's getting to be even harder, but not impossible, that's what Indie believes and it ends up been true.
Indie ends up finding out that Paige is not in Earth, she is trapped in Los Demonios, an alternate dimension of Los Angeles, an underworld prison. A prison filled with evil paranormals, where those evil paranormals go and don't ever come out. Indie desperate to get her best friend out of that cruel underworld prison, tries and finds a way to get there and decides to worry later about a way to get out of there. But that also means keeping that plan hush-hush from her boyfriend and her aunt, because they certainly wouldn't like to know about her going to face the world's most dangerous witches and warlocks on her own. And so she keeps it a secret from them and forms alliances with some sketchy people, including a seriously sexy sorcerer.
But on the way she learns that she isn't the only one keeping secrets after all. She learns secrets about her aunt and her mother and her father, some secrets that she wishes she never found out that's for sure. Not going to much in depth in these secrets, because what fund would it be for YOU to read it after, right?
I really enjoyed this book, there were a lot of action and lots and lots of twists, which are my favorite things in a book. There were times that I wish Indie wasn't keeping so much from Bishop but at the same time I understood where she was coming from.

"I have had a powerful weapon at my fingertips my whole life, but I'm finally learning to wield it. I feel unstoppable."
When Juneau's clan disappeared, she lost more than her friends and family; she lost her entire world. She discovered her life was a lie - her people weren't living in the wilderness because they were the sole survivors of a nuclear war. They were in hiding, hoping no one would find them and learn their secret: They never get sick, they hardly age, and they have the power to communicate with nature.
Juneau is closer than ever to finding them, and she couldn't have gotten this far without Miles. Although he originally pursued her with the goal of turning her over to his father, he has become her greatest ally. Even as an outsider, Miles has helped Juneau realize she is far more powerful than she'd ever believed.
But now the same people who took Juneau's clan are after her, too. Somehow she is the key to unlocking the mystery of her people's gifts. To rescue her clan and protect their secrets, Juneau must push past the boundaries of what she was taught, to discover what she is truly capable of.

I had really enjoyed the first book - After The End. It was a great way to relook at YA dystopian, featuring a bit of a lone wolf strong female character having to navigate a landscape of new realities. Her resilience and thoughtfulness, as she quietly took on the challenges, was rewarding. But with this second book, nearly all of that character development was thrown out the window in favor of a lot of a lot of preachy Earth-mother mysticism and braggadocio. Sadly, that translated into a lack of investment in the characters or plot.
Story: Juneau and Miles wanted to disappear quietly - but others have different plans for the teens. Most specifically, somewhat wants the secrets of Yara and is willing to kidnap and kill Juneau's clan to get it. It's up to Miles and Juneau to formulate a way to save her people.
Interesting, I found this second book had a lot of the same hallmarks but also issues as Plum's previous series, The Revenants. Both feature themes about people trying to do good (and the harm that can come from it). They both have antagonists that want to corrupt the good for selfish reasons. And both have storylines that falter and stagnate midway. In listening to both, I had a hard time staying invested and became bored quickly. The writing is lovely but very simplististic and straightforward, lacking in nuance and distinctness.
Most problematic for me was that the character development of the first book was sadly lost here. Yes, our characters should be more comfortable with each other and so situations are relaxed and easy. But at the same time, they do still barely know each other. By the end, Miles never grew more and Juneau became a very unrealistic messiah. Once again, the teens save the world (or in, this case, Juneau single handedly wraps up the story). But before that, be prepared for a long and somewhat uninteresting 'filler' known as the road trip.
I didn't dislike Until the Beginning and did finish it. It wrapped up without surprises and pretty much as I expected. But I have to accept at this point that perhaps Plum's gentle writing style isn't for me. I'm looking for something more unique and edgier.

Fury, book 2 of the Blur trilogy, ...
again demonstrates that Steven James is one of the masters of the teen thriller genre. I look forward to the release of the final book in the series in early 2016. James is, of course, best known for adult thrillers.
    This series is so GOOD!
I am looking forward to the last one in this series. Yes, it's filed under "children or young adult". That doesn't matter because the book keeps moving and building. Start from book 1 if you decide to get it. Nick Podehl is the perfect narrator for these characters. One character sounds like Jack Nicholson. If you listen to this book, you'll know which one. Young adult suspense at its best!
    Another good book!
I have enjoyed this series so far and will be looking forward to the next book. :)
    Interesting Twist...
I read books like this with my grandchildren who are middle schoolers. This trilogy kept everyone wanting to read more! Good characters the grandchildren could identify with, fast paced and there was a number of little twists! All in all we thought it was a very good book and the children love Nick Podehl!
    wow!
This was the second time we listened to this book. Steven James does it again!

A generation ago, continent-sized storms called hypercanes caused the Earth to flood. The survivors were forced to retreat deep underground and build a new society.
This is the story that sixteen-year-old Jansin Nordqvist has heard all of her life.
Jansin grew up in a civilization far below the Earth's surface. She's spent the last eight years in military intelligence training. So when her parents surprise her with a coveted yet treacherous trip above ground, she's prepared for anything. She's especially thrilled to feel the fresh air, see the sun, and view the wide-open skies and the ocean for herself.
But when raiders attack Jansin's camp and take her prisoner, she is forced to question everything she's been taught. What do her captors want? How will she get back underground? And if she ever does, will she want to stay after learning the truth?
    Members Reviews:
    Good but not great
Although the world and dystopian future were unique ideas the story followed the same old formula. Big bad government, kick ass trained teenage girl, wildly unbelievably 17 year old love interest, yada yada yada. The romance was shallow as were the friendships.
Good enough to read if you don't have anything great in your library waiting for you but not good enough that it will go on my recommended reading list.
    Entertaining!
Great story with believable characters and good narration. I do wish there were more character development. I didn't love or hate or really worry too much about the lead character but it was still believable and entertaining on many levels.
    Painful
My apologies to the author, but this is going to be honest. This book is formulaic at best and a walking cliche at worst. It takes an interesting premise (very interesting, I would have loved to have heard more of it!) and drowns it in a hypercaine of teenage angst and self-deprication with a manufactured and cliched attempt at a romance. In the style of every YA book out there, the female teenage protagonist is amazingly adept at fighting but doesn't know it and is too self conscious about her diminuitive size to acknowledge that she might be (and always is) something a bit more special than usual, blah, blah, blah. She's the perfect female heroine with no interesting quirks that would make her character readable. Her main love interest is perfect (teenaged and way skilled, a self-made man with a mysterious past who keeps himself to himself, blah, blah, blah). All of the secondary characters are perfect - surface imperfections but utterly, sickeningly beautiful and kind and wonderful people underneath, and not all that far underneath, either. Jansen is the author's idealized version of herself - the perfect little Mary Sue - and that makes her amazingly flaw-free and incredibly, achingly boring. Pick up the characters and the plot and you could insert it flawlessly into any situation or setting without disturbing a thing about the story, it has THAT little to do with the fascinating premise that attracted me to the book in the first place. Seriously, if you're going to spend the entire first half of the book on an island paradise with perfect weather and poorly-researched setting details, don't make a big deal about the hypercaines in the summary. I was expecting a battle against the raging elements, not angst and mooning. The summary is a cheat.
In the interest of full disclosure, I did not finish the book. I couldn't.

    Shannon Hale doesn't Fail
I am a big fan of Shannon Hale and in fact emailed her a request for this book to be offered on audible two weeks before it popped up. I love it when I can do that!
This book is very different from her other novels. I am used to her flowing, poetic language and more of a slow build to her plots, so at first I felt like this book was rushed. But as it continued, I realized it was just very straight forward.
I love the protagonist. She is smart and witty and brave and vulnerable and all around fantastic. My only wish is that it was longer. Hopefully she will return to this world and we can follow them through more adventures.
    Intense, Unpredictable, Exciting!
Shannon Hale is my favorite author. I was NOT expecting a book like this from her - but that's not a bad thing. Sci-fi isn't exactly my cup of tea, but for those who love it you should definitely read/listen to this book. My only real experience with sci fi was when I watched Firefly in college, and this gave me similar feelings: intensity, unexpected plot twists, fear, extravagant ideas, and freaky aliens that give me nightmares. But man she wrote this book well, and I LOVE the unique main character!!! From beginning to end I kept having moments like "WHAT???!" the only predictable part was the VERY end. But you have all the pieces by then and I'm glad it turned out how I wanted it to :) Thank you Shannon Hale for the exciting new super hero!
    Great adventure
Captivating story. Fun adventure. Clever, clever, clever. The writing style was so enjoyable to listen to. I loved the love/hate dynamic. Not your typical teenage story about a girl falling in love. She keeps her head & doesn't act stupid.
    Dangerous is Awful
This book wasnt for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
No one - Shannon Hale used to be such a clean author - I am surprised in a juvenile book that she would use sex, vulgarity, and so much yuck.
What could Shannon Hale have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
She should have stuck to being clean-cut. No longer trust this author.
    Any additional comments?
Shannon Hale - SO disappointed in you. You know better.

Ella is happy with her new role as playmate for a congressman's bubbly young daughter, but she doesn't expect Penn, the congressman's handsome and rebellious son. He's the only person who sees beyond the perfect exterior to the girl within. Falling for him goes against every rule she knows, and the freedom she finds with him is intoxicating.
But when Ella is kidnapped and thrust into the dark underworld lurking beneath her pampered life, she's faced with an unthinkable choice. Because the only thing more dangerous than staying with Penn's family is leaving...and if she's unsuccessful, she'll face a fate far worse than death.

Good job but the narrator need two more enthusiasm
This book is amazing they need to put the second book tarnished on here called tarnished
    I wanted more.
People say a good story leaves you wanting more and in this case I wanted to see the development of the Pet learn to read and write but even more, I'd like this to have been a non 11-13 book, without being graphic though, I'd like to learn more of other pets lives. Only seeing two pets left some to my imagination but i needed more story. Indeed a sequel after Niagara
i also would have liked to know more of how they/she was born and how they were treated before she was purchased. definitely more prefacing or at least flashbacks other than the same red door felt like the writer wrote a lot but then some crazy editor just bulldozed chunks of paragraphs, deleting what i would like to have read.
    Ok idea
Ending could've been better but interesting enough. Kind of short, could have been more detailed and fun to have a sequel.
    Goodish
This was a fun book. It had an interesting premise. I felt there was a lot more that could have been done with it, however. The narrator was great, but couldn't breathe much life into Penn, who just wasn't that exciting a romantic interest. I enjoyed the concept enough that I don't regret the purchase.
