Define 'Normal' by Julie Anne Peters
If you could sum up Define 'Normal' in three words, what would they be?
    NORMAL MEETS GOTH
I listened to this amazing audiobook from the Hub Challenge and LOVED it. Both girls are fantastic protagonists, although the story is told solely from Antonia's point of view; she is peer counseling Jazz Luther who is the total opposite of Antonia. As I listened to this compelling audiobook I realized why I love Julie Ann Peters books- she gets teens. This book is no different- both Jazz and Antonia have "stuff" going on and teens will love reading or listening to this book; can seeming "opposites" get along, trust each other, and become friends? Highly recommended!
Who was your favorite character and why?
I liked Antonia because she 'seemed' more normal than Jazz. Antonia is a straight A student and her view of life is getting more and more murky--thank goodness for the peer counseling. I think that became her life line as well as her new friendship with Jazz.
Have you listened to any of Christine Lakins other performances before? How does this one compare?
This was my first and I want to listen to more of her performances:)
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
When Antonia got Jazz to play the piano; I think it was a defining moment for both of them although they do not realize it at the time.
    Any additional comments?
I listened to this Amazing Audiobook as part of The 2015 Hub Challenge and loved this oldy but goody book.
The voice actor, Christine Lakin was simply amaxin
I loved it. The amazing narrator plus the great story. It was a pleasure to finish
    Heartfelt, Heartbreaking and Well-Acted
What made the experience of listening to Define 'Normal' the most enjoyable?
Definitely the voice acting. Christine Larkin not only perfectly imitated a very young boy, but also a toddler, and both French and Hispanic accents. Not many people can handle doing all those things in the same book.
Would you recommend Define 'Normal' to your friends? Why or why not?
I'm not sure. The story can get pretty dark and beautifully heartbreaking at times, but it was nice to see some real issues being tackled, such as living with a parent's depression.
Which character as performed by Christine Lakin was your favorite?
I feel she puts just the right amount of toughness into the character of Jazz, yet can easily take it down a notch whenever the performance needs it.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
We each have our own cross to bear.
    Any additional comments?
The one minor issue I had was that this title is always grouped together with "lesbian teen" related books, and so I kept waiting for a lesbian relationship to form between Jazz and Antonia.

The story is great though i didnt like the ending that much overall its great
ore twists than three little pig's tails
A very good reading of an excellent story of good and evil, which constantly surprises and delights in a world of creative brilliance.
    Perfect. But beware of sequels.
This was all I dreamed it would be and more. Nuanced, exciting and modern take on fairy tales, good and evil, self discovery.. Beautiful, inspiring and I welled up at several parts with how much I connected to both characters and the story.
But I have to warn (without spoilers) that I really cannot recommend the sequels. There are some good parts in them but overall they slowly undermine most of the wonderful subversive aspects that I loved so much in this book and replace them with watered down versions and the very tropes and stereotypes I thought we were getting away from. I wrote reviews on the other two book pages if you want more info but this is as vague as I'll be on the first book page.
What the beautiful relationship (my OTP if you will) of Sophie and Agatha turns into especially leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth.
So if you want to be left with satisfaction and good (not Good lol) vibes then finish your journey with this perfectly wrapped-up book.
I'm so let down but this first book still means a lot to me, even if something went really wrong in the other two.
    Exelent
A fascinating story that mixes traditional fairy tails and where their heros started. At the school for good and evil two girls with controversial personalities that come from beyond the woods try to remain friends whilst being in different schools.
    School For Good and Evil
I love this book. I've been glued to it and nearly forgot to do my homework. Honestly! I love the narrator as well, as she is so soothing. There is no problem at all with the length of the book, because it gives you this feeling that you want to read on to know the main plot. The vocabulary is also fine. Perfect for 8-17 aged people. My personal favourite character was Beatrix (spoilers ahead!), I liked her catty behaviour. To me, turns out the good people were catty and obnoxious, while the evil were more kind. Okay I'm going to go now. Bye!

Wish it had a strong ending.
The narrator did a good job in making different voices and tones for different characters. The series was good. It just did not have a strong solid ending. I'm a little tiny bit disappointed.

Whirlwind romance and breathtaking action continues in the sequel to Let the Sky Fall, which Becca Fitzpatrick called charged and romantic.

By the treacherous winds that slip into his mind, trying to trap him in his worst nightmares. And as his enemies grow stronger, Vane doesnt know how much longer he can last on his own.

    Members Reviews:
    Enjoyable Characters
I enjoyed the first book in this series and looked forward to this second book. Author Shannon Messenger does a great job of creating interesting and distinct characters that are a pleasure to read. Of course, the world building may not live up to close scrutiny and the villains are rather one-dimensional; but I can forgive the quirks because this can be quite a fun book to read. Note: I listened to the Audible version and the narrators were excellent.
Story: After the events in the first book, Audra has struck out on her own. What she finds in her journey will be disturbing - there is much more at stake than she realized and Raiden has much more power/viciousness than she could have imagined. Vane, meanwhile, is haunted by Raiden's winds every night, creating terrors that only his once-betrothed, Solana, can prevent. When Vane is forced to confront Audra's mother, and Raiden's machinations become even more deadly, the couple be set up for a fight to the death. For Raiden has upped his game - and it means turning Gales into monsters. The power of the four winds may no longer be enough.
There are some interesting developments this book but the story does falter a bit in the beginning. We have to deal with a lot of soul searching on Vane and Audra's part; Vane as he learns more about his heritage and Audra as she does her travels. At the end it picks up, though, with some interesting battles. But I did find myself bored and distracted for quite a bit in the beginning.
As always, the world building is fascinating and imaginative, making the story an easy read. But really, it is for the characters that I am hooked. I really like how different Vane and Audra are - her single minded determination and his quirky pluck and sarcasm. It makes them a great foil and they never fall out of character. Amusing side characters (like Gus) add to a fun mix.
The villain, Raiden, is rather a cliche mustache twirling evil guy. There are no conflicts or depth to him - just posturing and threats. And Audra's mother could probably be a bit more interesting, too, in her machinations.

    Great story; excellent presentation!
Loved it, especially since Frank Peretti reads it! Great story! Good for upper elementary through adult.
    My child loved the book
My son absolutely loved the book. I am a Frank Peretti fan but I was not sure whether my son would love his books. It was a smash hit! my son read the book so fast (and the others in the series) that I am again looking for more books for my son to read. The book was also delivered on time and in excellent condition.
14 yr old and 12 yr old both loved!
Both my girls were thrilled to find this book as well as the rest of this series. They both enjoyed this book. I like the fact that their eyes are being opened even more to the supernatural without having to read one of his adult books quite yet. (The 12 yr old anyway) This mom says, "Get them all!"
    The Cooper Kids Series
This was my favorite series growing us, and I love that I can share in this experience with my children now! These books are amazing and subtly bring God in so the kids don't think they are reading the Bible, but they pick up of key elements of the Gospel!
    Exactly what I expected
Came just as expected in good condition

    Beautiful
thank you for such a beautiful end to this book it makes my heart happy
All in on a bad hand
Would you try another book from Ally Carter and/or Renee Raudman?
Renee Raudman is not my favorite narrator. As the series progressed she seemed to lose her energy and gave a very passable performance.
Miss Carter, however, is a gifted, Cabot-esque writer who I would love to see more from.
Would you ever listen to anything by Ally Carter again?
    Absolutely.
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
No. Raudman fell flat and failed to capture the significance of the series's climax.
Do you think United We Spy needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
No. Carter could and perhaps should have stopped the series at book three and it would have been just fine by me. These last few additions to the series did not meet my expectations.
    Any additional comments?
In this much-anticipated finale to the beloved Gallagher Girls series, Ally Carter shoots for the stars and goes all in on a very ambitious (not to mention somewhat ridiculous) plot concept. Unfortunately it is clear from the very beginning that her aim is pretty far off the mark. Like very, very far.
Not that this book is a bad one. No, it has its good points and the charm of the rest of the series, the characters we've grown to love. But to be honest, Miss Carter should have stuck to the quirky, charming style of the first book, without all the danger and the Circle of Cavon and the other "spy stuff" which Carter handles about as well as a hippopotomas handles a tightrope. The action in this book was clearly poorly planned and poorly executed.
Worth a read, though? Absolutely. If you, like me, have read and enjoyed the previous books then no matter the poor overall plot, this book is a necessary conclusion to the series, and you'll still enjoy some quality downtime with the characters from time to time. The series did not end on a high note, as compared to the other books, but it was still a lovely little series and I will remember it fondly.
    Great Book, Terrible Audible
Would you listen to United We Spy again? Why?
Definitely not. The narrator's voice was way too distracting. I'd prefer to actually read it.
What other book might you compare United We Spy to and why?
    Not sure.
What didnt you like about Renee Raudmans performance?
Even though most of the characters are American, she uses a British accents for characters that shouldn't have it (Like Cammie's mom, Macey, etc.)
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
    No
    Any additional comments?
    Buy the actual book.

Eel has troubles of his own: As an orphan and a "mudlark", he spends his days in the filthy River Thames, searching for bits of things to sell. He's being hunted by Fisheye Bill Tyler, and a nastier man never walked the streets of London. And he's got a secret that costs him four precious shillings a week to keep safe.
But even for Eel, things aren't so bad until that fateful August day in 1854 - the day the Great Trouble begins. Mr. Griggs, the tailor, is the first to get sick, and soon it's clear that the deadly cholera - the "blue death" - has come to Broad Street.
Everyone believes that cholera is spread through poisonous air. But one man, Dr. John Snow, has a different theory. As the epidemic surges, it's up to Eel and his best friend, Florrie, to gather evidence to prove Snow's theory before the entire neighborhood is wiped out.
Part medical mystery, part survival story, and part Dickensian adventure, Deborah Hopkinson's The Great Trouble is a celebration of a fascinating pioneer in public health and a gripping novel about the 1854 London cholera epidemic.

I'm hooked on this awesome book series!!!!
I only bought the first book in the series because it was on sale. When I listened to the first book I was hooked. (The series starts with "Touch of Frost".) I listened to the next and next and so forth. The narrators voice grew on me. at first it seemed awkward, but now I enjoy how it gives life to the characters. My better half got hooked on it (a 48 year old man) despite the protagonist being a young female Mythos Academy student. Although tailored for youth and young adults, the book is great for all ages!
When at a dinner with families, we mentioned it and it became a major conversation topic. (I think others purchased it after that...for themselves and their kids.)
While I suggest you start with the first in the series to make the most or of the characters and story line, if you haven't read or listened to the prior books in the series is fine to start with this one. this one can stand on it's own.
The storyline reminds me of Harry Potter...in a female version with newer technologies the characters use (e.g. cell phones).
Our Frosty Friend Gets A Lot of Friends
This is good series and full of fun, characters are great, and there are these few twists you get here and there. Our frosty friend is getting stronger and stronger, and this book was a good one, wit plenty of action.
what i have liked in Midnight Frost is the new characters you get to know here... these characters will bring an appearance in the future, and that will be fantastic.
I don't know what else to say than get this book.. its a great series.

Doppelgangers are monsters, hardwired for murder.
They are not supposed to have doubts, but this one does. He wishes he could be different. More human, maybe. But even that can't stop him from killing people so he can take their places and live their lives. He has to do it; it's who he is.
But when the doppelganger murders a small-town teenager, assumes his shape, and takes over his life, he's shocked by the world he steps into. Engulfed in a whirlwind of peer pressure, messy family dynamics, and a provocative relationship with a beautiful girl, he quickly learns that there's more than one way to be human, and many ways to be a monster.
Told in the tortured voice of a most extraordinary teen, this contemporary gothic romance brews a captivating combination of violence, desire, and atonement. Here is the story of a monster yearning for a human life.
    Editorial Reviews:
The narrator of this well-crafted tale is a monster without a name, a shape-shifter who kills human beings and assumes their form. That's normal for his breed, but this is a monster with a conscience, one who thinks and feels just as much as the average human - if not more. And when he takes on the shape of a violent high-school linebacker with a troubled family, he is thrown into a toxic stew of relationships that will leave the listener questioning who the real monsters are. Performer Brad Raimondo perfectly captures the swaggering small town bravado, the doomed romance, and the beguiling complexities of this thought-provoking novel.

    From my 10-year-old student
The following review was written by my 10-year-old student, who recently finished the book.
    Readers,
I see you are interested in the book The White Fox Chronicles. I am here to help you decide if you will like it or not. First of all, if you are the type of person who does not like violence, this book is not for you! It has a lot of fighting and torture. But, if you are a person who likes adventure, overcome your fear of hostility and read this book. It is my favorite adventure book of all time. To me, this book is the definition of perfect. It's adventurous, fun, and creates suspension and thought. Though the ending isn't my favorite, everyone has their own opinion. Overall, I think the book is great. It's daring, bold, and suspenseful. If I lived long enough, I would read the books a million times. When you read it, I know you will feel the same way too.
    Son loved it
My son found this book on his teacher's bookshelf and thought it may be interesting. He wanted his own copy, so I bought this one. The subject matter (kids in concentration camp) seemed a little 'grown up' but he was enthralled with the story line and the action. He wishes that Mr. Paulsen would write another one in this series.
    Five Stars
One of my favorite books from my childhood
    Great read
This book had great action, great story, great all round. A lot like the movie red dawn. A perfect book that pre-teens through adults will enjoy
    Five Stars
    Love Gary Paulsen.
