A broken past and a divided future cant stop the electric connection of two teens in this "charged and romantic" (Becca Fitzpatrick), lush novel.

    Members Reviews:
    Clever, fresh and fun.
I predict this is book/series is going to blow up so I urge everyone to get on board early!
The 'air elemental' angle was novel for me and I absolutely adored the lore that fleshed out the book. I found little things like the Southerly winds being tropical and lazy while Northern winds being frigid and demanding really clever.
I also had fun with the 'wind bending' techniques and was completely hooked waiting to see all the training come together in the final battle.
The dual male and female protagonists were very well drawn and I loved their relationship. The interplay was complex, clever, cute and so much better than the usual "he's hot and she's hot so they must get together" paint-by-numbers YA romance. The drama between them was genuine and the climax was sincere.
The story itself was also very strong and it moved purposely, never getting side-tracked or wallowing. It expertly weaved the respective pasts, presents and futures of Audra and Vane together for a tightly layered and well-paced story.
I will definitely check out the next book in the series as soon as it is released. I strongly recommend Let the Sky Fall to everyone into YA especially those looking for a fresh paranormal concept or just a well-written story!
    very interesting! imaginative!
What did you love best about Let the Sky Fall?
It was the kind of book in which you need a great imagination to follow . The characters are great!
What was one of the most memorable moments of Let the Sky Fall?
When he first realized his powers were real.
Which character as performed by Kristen Leigh and Nick Podehl was your favorite?
    Both
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Let this book take you away with the wind.
    Unique Story!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would definitely recommend this to someone who digs scifi/fantasy but wants something different from the usual.
What did you like best about this story?
The world created by Messenger right over the top of our own was pretty sneaky and well done.

It's not like I meant for Danley to get hurt...
Julian Twerski isn't a bully. He's just made a big mistake. So when he returns to school after a week-long suspension, his English teacher offers him a deal: If he keeps a journal and writes about the terrible incident that got him and his friends suspended, he can get out of writing a report on Shakespeare. Julian jumps at the chance. And so begins his account of life in sixth grade - blowing up homemade fireworks, writing a love letter for his best friend (with disastrous results), and worrying whether he's still the fastest kid in school. Lurking in the background, though, is the one story he can't bring himself to tell, the one story his teacher most wants to hear.
Inspired by Mark Goldblatt's own childhood growing up in 1960s Queens, Twerp shines with humor and heart. This remarkably powerful story will have listeners laughing and crying right along with these flawed but unforgettable characters.

    Awesome
This is a very good book in a lot of ways. Itcan teach u a lot about politics and voting elections. The parts with Markus are really cute(especially when there talking bout the election and he starts to pipe in). Recommended to anyone who likes too read a lot, likes Gary Paulsen & not a lot of action books but they get very interesting if u really known how to read
    Good book
Quick, fast, fun read for middle grade readers. Hit on a lot of right notes.
    but good.
IT is kind of short, but good.
Kevin Tosses His Hat into the Political Arena
Gary Paulsen's newest contribution to his Kevin Spencer series, aimed at 9 to 12 year olds, has Kevin running for class president. His arch-rival is Cash Devine must be defeated to insure the continued affection of hard-won girlfriend Tina Zabinski.
Kevin considers his leap into the political arena as an inevitability as "I've shown my capacity to assume command ever since I first had a name tag stuck on my shirt in kindergarten; I raced to be the line leader every time we went to the drinking fountain or out to the playground for recess". With this solid background of leadership under his belt, fourteen year old Kevin tosses his hat into the ring.
Paulsen follows the progress of the campaign, sometimes with tongue-in-cheek seriousness, but mostly with humor, as the angst of teenage love and social bonds are at risk. Short chapters with titles such as: "The True Politician Carefully Builds a Strong Support Team"; The True Politician Keeps His Friends Close and His Enemies Closer"; "The True Politician Relishes the Opportunity to Switch Things Up"; "The True Politician Deftly Sidesteps Problems That Might Arise from an Overabundance of Truth" has the reader wondering if they're reading fiction or watching the Daily Show.
This is a charming book with a quirky hero who has his heart in the right place. It's a good choice for this age group and guarantees an enjoying get-away from reality and into the crazy world of politics.
    Middle Grade Book
Gary Paulsen is one of those rare writers who very rarely gives readers a bad book. Vote is only a subpar entry in his massive catalog, but it's not bad, per say. I have not read any of the other books with Kevin, but Vote reads similar to other books like Lawn Boy in that it is generally succinct in both message and length. Paulsen doesn't give you a lot of filler or beat around the bush which is what makes him enjoyable to read.
The humor in Vote revolves around Kevin's ego.

After escaping a military complex amidst the zombie apocalypse, B roams the streets of a very changed London. Once again, B must find a way to survive amongst brain-eating zombies and those who have seized control of the city. Danger lurks around every corner and there is no one to trust. B is faced with a decision: join the creepy Mr. Dowling in exchange for his protection? Or keep going solo, in a world gone mad with hunger?
    Members Reviews:
    Another Winner from Shan
I've been a big fan of Darren Shan since Cirque du Freak. For such a young author, he never ceases to amaze me (no disrespect to young authors intended). His last series that I read, The City, surprised me with its twists. Zom-B is no exception. I've come to the conclusion that Shan delights in torturing his readers. And yes, he did it to me again in Zom-B. The twist at the end of this book was outstanding!
Zom-B is the story of a young thug growing up in a horrible family. B's dad is a racist and a wife beater and B is subjected to similar physical brutality. In turn, B treats the other students at school just as badly. The reader doesn't come to have much sympathy for B.
I can't go into many more details without spoiling plot points, but obviously zombies are involved. Shan does a good job at describing the advent of the zombie outbreak, which some authors don't do well.
This book also includes plenty of illustrations, which are a nice touch. Even in the Kindle version, the sketches look good.
My only complaint is that the book is too short. Since this series is new, there's no way to tell how many books it will consist of. I have a feeling there will be many though, which means this series will end up being an expensive read. As a big fan of Shan's though, I suppose I won't be able to resist and I'll end up paying for each of the books, regardless of how many there are.
If you have read Shan's books before and enjoyed them, then I definitely recommend this one.
Clever, thought provoking book that deals with delicate matters (and has zombies in it)
I'm not a zombie-fan. However, having read Shan's pervious work I decided to give this book a chance. Turns out that I absoloutly love it.
I'ts true that there is not much action until the middle/the end of the book, but for me that didn't matter. The first half of the book is very important for the rest of the story (important for the whole series).
At first I was a bit shocked of all the racism, disobedience, violence etc. This is a delicate subject, especially when it comes to children, but I think Shan handles it well. And as with Shan's previous books, there is a message in this one - stand up to evil, fight evil.
    Zom-B City by Darren Shan
Zombie Becky Smith has escaped the underground (Book 2) and she doesn't really know why, but she is definitely different from other zombies. She can speak and think...she is what is called a revitalized and this third book examines B in London trying to get to humans/soldiers to tell them she is different and offer her blood to be tested and help in any way she can. But, this is not simple, when the world has been overrun by zombies and also mutants commanded by the scary clown figure, Mr. Dowling. B also meets an artist who is chronicling the zombie apocalypse but rather than stay with him, opts to try to be a hero.

With more than 1.5 million copies sold, Killing Lincoln deftly recounts one of the most dramatic stories in American historyof how one gunshot changed the country forever. In Lincolns Last Days, Bill O'Reilly masterfully adapts his historical thriller to appeal to a younger audience.
This is a useful, inviting, and accessible book for younger listeners interested in American history and the Civil War. Both adults and children are sure to find this book irresistible on its own, or as a compelling companion to Killing Lincoln.
    Members Reviews:
    Riveting narrative
Bill O'Reilly's books always intrigue me. Not only his story telling ability but the depth of his research amazes me. Lincoln and the Civil War have always interested me. Excellent read.
    Interesting--Even for the Non-Historian
I'm not a history buff, but I still really enjoyed listening to the book. After all, it's rather incumbent that every American know about Lincoln's last days.
The book does a great job portraying the events in an interesting light. In fact, I had never before appreciated the extent of the conspiracy and that others besides Lincoln were meant to die on the night that Lincoln was shot. It's also amazing to learn about the lax security protecting Lincoln.
The narrator is fabulous and adds to the enjoyment of the book. I highly recommend this audio edition!
    Buy killing Lincoln instead
Killing Lincoln put me right in the middle of the Action, try that one, pass on this one.
    Lincoln's Last Days
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This book was very interesting & kept at a good speed. We enjoyed the little side notes about the people in the book.
What about Ed Hermann and Bill O'Reilly (introduction) s performance did you like?
It was nice to hear directly from the author.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The events that led up to the death of Lincoln. You knew what was going to happen, but it was sad to see it all in the big picture.
    Excellent
If you could sum up Lincoln's Last Days in three words, what would they be?
    Amazing new knowledge
Have you listened to any of Ed Hermann and Bill O'Reilly (introduction) s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Yes. Both were hard to pause anywhere if I had to.
    Any additional comments?
I've also listened to" Killing Lincoln", which has more detail of the civil war. The shorter version is perfect for younger people to understand ie " Lincoln's Last Days"

    Release date: 06-04-12
    Publisher: Blackstone Audio, Inc.
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 28 votes
    Genres: Teens, Ages 11-13
    Publisher's Summary:
This entertaining history blends anecdote, incident, and analysis as it chronicles the story of our national pastime. Alexander covers the advent of the first professional baseball leagues, the games surge in the early 20th century, the Golden 20s and the Gray 30s, the breaking of the color line in the late 40s, and the games expansion to its current status as a premier team sport. He describes changing playing styles and outstanding teams and personalities but also demonstrates the many connections between baseball - as game, sport, and business - and the evolution of tastes, values, and institutions in the United States.
About the author: Charles C. Alexander, formerly a distinguished professor of history at Ohio University, is the author of a number of books, including the celebrated biographies Ty Cobb and John McGraw.
    Critic Reviews:
This coherent narrative history captures the glory, the excitement, and the occasional scandal that characterize the countrys favorite sport. Entertaining and informative without flogging readers with a plethora of numbing statistics, Alexanders style should appeal to fans and students of baseball lore. A book that should readily lend itself as a tool in teaching modern American social and cultural history. (

A commendable blend of people and events. (

    Learn The Names
What did you like best about Our Game? What did you like least?
    Interesting History Lesson
What didnt you like about Grover Gardners performance?
Slow and Tedious, but the worst was his continual mispronunciation of players names. It is especially annoying when he does it with a really famous guy. BOO
    Basic information
While the book is somewhat outdated and doesn't reflect some of the events of the last 20 years, including 4 new franchises, the PED scandals, one franchise move, and the strike of '94, it is a very good primer to explain how baseball and professional baseball in particular got where it has.
It is a very good overview of the first 150 years of our national pastime. I would love to see an update. The one thing that I'd particularly want to see is the emergence of SABR and the effects that "Advanced Baseball Metrics" (aka SABRmetrics) has had on the game and the evaluation of some of its personalities.
On the other hand, a look at Kenesaw Mountain Landis gives a good picture of the horrors that a bad commissioner can perpetrate; it is nice to know why the Oakland Athletics use an elephant as a mascot; there is a story behind why the Cincinnati Reds were called the "Redlegs" for a period; and how some of the, seemingly, oddball rules came to be.
I do have to mark the narrator down, considerably. He mispronounced so many names that it was driving me crazy. Also, there was some baseball terminology that he didn't make flow. While he does have a very listenable voice, and I have enjoyed other books that he has read, his lack of knowledge about this most American of sports should have precluded him from doing the narration, or he should at least have gotten a new coach.
    Nothing compelling
Tries to hit every notable highlight of 160 years of baseball by simply mentioning every highlight without a single example of insight.
