Fairyblessed

Aurora is "fairy blessed", and is much more a soldier than a princess, off on a quest to save her brother and her people. In fact, Aurora is so much more like a soldier that she dresses as a boy to disguise herself.

Niklaas has a curse of his own, and they join together on a quest that takes them through dangerous territory and through dangerous battles.

On the road to save a kingdom, will they also save each other?

Things I loved about this book: Soul eating Ogres, fairy magic, seers, Ogre eating trees... so much awesome magic in the background!

What I didn't love:

Its just a bit heavier on the romance and the swooning than I'd prefer. I'd prefer a little more soul eating ogre and a little less he loves me he loves me not, but that's my own preference.

Overall, I found the book enjoyable and give it a solid 3 stars.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a little magic and fairy tale. This is not a remaking of Sleeping Beauty, but the main character Aurora is the daughter of Sleeping Beauty and she is Fey blessed. She needs to save her little brother from the evil, and very disturbing, Ogre Queen Ekeeta. She meets Niklaas and he believes that she is her younger brother. The two travel together, arguing and teasing and getting to know each other. It's a good story!

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

I really loved the story, honestly, it made me smile so often. And I read reviews from some people who didn't like it and they commented the the development of the world was lacking. And I agree. I would say, most people do not know the original Sleeping Beauty story and this book was based off THAT story. So, I think it would be have been better if she'd included a synopsis of that story or something in order to better set the world they were in. Otherwise, you have questions that you don't get answers to at all. I decided to read a synopsis of the original story and suddenly the whole book made sense. I was never lost after that point (Wikipedia). Aurora and Jour (Jor in this book) are the actual children of Sleeping Beauty.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I laughed a lot, shook my head a lot, teared up some too. It was a charming story and I'd very eagerly read it again.

A Nice Companion Story

I was excited to hear that this little novella actually DID come out in December (after hearing her talk about the series at a recent event, I was under the impression that nothing Untamed City-related would be coming anytime soon), so of course I nabbed it! This was the perfect prequel to the series, as far as Iâm concerned. I loved getting to see a bit more of the relationship between Aya and Belias before the events in Carnival of Secrets. Surprisingly, I had little trouble slipping back into the story and the world, and I really enjoyed this.

I liked it very much but it was entirely to short leaving you feeling unfulfilled after the long wait for any kind of a second in the series. But please know that i understand that the author has probably got a lot on her plate and there may have been a need for patience.She is a fabulous author. But, please dont give up on this story it can be a wonderful work of art. Hope to see another in the series soon!

Short but good

Leaves you wanting more. Such a good storyline that it could have been turned into a full length novel. Brilliant.

read the first book and don't bother with this retelling of the fight that is in the first book

If you read the first book this is exactly the same thing. Don't waste your time. It doesn't continue on with the story. It is the same bit of information about Ayas and Belias' fight. If I wanted to re-read that fight I would have just reread the first book.

A story with legs

When I started listening to this, I don't think I realized just what a wild ride I was in for. The story really begins to roll after they leave Boston, and doesn't let up. I can honestly say I often found myself trying to shoehorn just a few extra minutes of listening time. It was well performed, and the kind of story that benefits from the slower pace of being read out loud.

Wonderful Adventure

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. Overall I thought this was a great book and absolutely hits the mark for it's target audience. I happen to be much older than that group, but still enjoyed the story and stayed with it, interested in where the story would go.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Glass Sentence?

I thought the pirates introduced us nicely to the repeated theme/idea that what we may think is bad or good, maybe something else entirely. And the description of the palace was full of so much wonder, it is beautiful.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Towards the end when the Lacrama is leaving Sophie, the discovery of the glass map, and the growing of plants in the man made soil. I was also caught up in Sophia's parents seemingly being within her grasp, and yet not there at all. I hope this gets resolved in a surprising and delightful way in the next book.

Any additional comments?

The story has a fast pace, and at times I wished for more depth than speed, but that's due to my age and not a limitation on the story. I will buy the next book, and look forward to another adventure with a terrific and diverse cast.

I don't know who would like the book. The story didn't flow, events didnt make sense, not believable and characters were dull. Maybe kids.

The story didn't flow from one event to the next, and the characters were dumb and were unaffected by the supposed horrific events

I'm not easily offended, but it took only 10 minutes for this book to alienate me so thoroughly that I returned it. The review system forces me to give stars, which might not be fair given that I haven't listened to the whole book, but be warned: frequent and gratuitous use of really bad language, gratuitous sexual detail, slut-shaming, snarky, unlikeable main character.

You might like it, but know what you're buying. REally not suitable for younger YA readers.

Great series of books!

My 11 year old son is sports obsessed. It is easiest to get him to read sports related books. He has read the whole series of these and loves them all. After finishing the last one he said they need to write more of them. :)

He's reading!!

Our 9yr old hasn't found many books that have grabbed his attention, until this series. Highly recommend, especially if your child plays Little League. They'll be able to relate to it.
