It's the evening of Jesus' betrayal, and it's dinner time. As this famous last supper comes to an end, Jesus rises to do something unthinkable — he washes the disciple's feet. Even though we know the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve and give his life as a ransom for the world's reconciliation, it seems that the most pious of the bunch thinks that's ridiculous. It's not supposed to be this way, Peter thinks. The roles should be reversed. The servants should serve the master, right? And just like that, the faithfulness of the most pious in the bunch is exposed in the face of this soon-to-be suffering servant.

Why is the one thing Jesus called every believer to do something very few of them do? The question drives us to an honest look at what discipleship actually is, why it matters, and how life-giving it can be. Nothing kills discipleship faster than believing the goal is making people more faithful instead of showing them they’re already free. Join Russ & Jameson as they kick off 2023 with a break from our series in the Gospel of John to look at discipleship through the lens of the finished work of Jesus.

Nothing will get you in the mood for Christmas quite like hour-long sermons, obscure theological phrases, and a worship leader wrapped in Christmas lights. Join all three of the Lark dudes — Russ, Jameson & Tony — as they reach back in time to make fun of themselves by resurrecting old Christmas sermons from their pastoring days.

Entering the kingdom is hard, but not because its threshold is impossible to cross. Entrance, it turns out, is relatively easy. Too easy. In fact, it's free. This is what makes it hard and almost impossible for those unwilling to die. Join Tony and Russ as they explore the most unique gospel—the gospel of John—through the lens of the finished work of Jesus. This episode features a conversation about John 12.

Just before Jesus enters Jerusalem—thus kickstarting his passion—he makes a quick pitstop to share a meal with Lazarus (who he had just raised from the dead) and his sisters, Martha and Mary. In the middle of this scene, Mary begins pouring an expensive bottle of perfume—a gratuitous act of worship if there ever was one! One critical voice in the room offers a stark juxtaposition and gives way to a conversation about the life of grace. Join Tony and Russ as they explore the most unique gospel—the gospel of John—through the lens of the finished work of Jesus. This episode features a conversation about John 11.

As the final decisive turn towards the culmination of Jesus’ mission to die, he straight up tells Martha that resurrection isn’t like a software you apply to a device. HE IS THE RESURRECTION. Upon casually raising Lazarus from 4 days of death to foreshadow what he means, the Judean leaders collude to finally dispose of this Fanatic. Join Russ and Jameson as they explore the most unique gospel—the gospel of John—through the lens of the finished work of Jesus. This episode features a conversation about John 11.

At the peak of Jesus’ controversial sayings is his declaration to be the True Shepherd who is one with the Father. File this away in the Jesus-calls-himself-God folder. The Jews fail to stone AND kidnap Jesus, proving his point—plainly—that when humans stand in as judges, people get hurt. Join Russ and Jameson as they explore the most unique gospel—the gospel of John—through the lens of the finished work of Jesus. This episode features a conversation about John 10:22-40.

Jesus begins chapter 10 with an absolute indictment on the leaders and "shepherds" of Jerusalem by calling them thieves, killers and destroyers. Contrasted as the "Good Shepherd," Jesus tells them why he's different. But what makes these supposed leaders of the Jews act in ways like they did in chapter 9? Join Russ and Tony as they explore the most unique gospel—the gospel of John—through the lens of the finished work of Jesus. This episode features the second half of a conversation in John 10.

Jesus is intentionally forcing the action in John 9 with healing a man (who was born blind) — on the Sabbath! In addition to the religious establishment is doubling down in their unbelief and hatred of Jesus, they launch a religious investigation into the healing which ends up with this newly healed man and his family being ostracized from their community. Not exactly a celebration of this miraculous moment. Leave it to the ones who desire to master life rather than enjoy the mystery of Him who is life and all the ways he makes us blind fools see his grace. Join Russ and Tony as they explore the most unique gospel—the gospel of John—through the lens of the finished work of Jesus. This episode features the second half of a conversation in John 9.
