Ep. 4: Meet Malika Sloan, 23-year-old millennial badass killing it in New York City as a medical aesthetician. Four and a half years ago, Malika pursued her biggest dream of moving from small town, Texas to New York City just five days after her high school graduation. The city chewed her up and spit her out the first few years. She opens up about struggling with depression, anxiety, and loneliness while working as a receptionist at a waxing center during the day and attending school at night. Fast forward to 2020, she finally has a solid girl squad, lives in a studio apartment in downtown Brooklyn, and works at the prestigious Tribeca MedSpa. She shares her experience attending NY fashion weeks and even meeting Bella Hadid at Cannes Film Festival. Ep. 3: Today, we're joined by the charismatic and bold Nere Denisse Sanchez. Born in Los Angeles, CA but raised in Oaxaca, Mexico, Nere and her family moved to Indiana to pursue the American dream. She stayed for a year before moving back to Oaxaca to complete her high school education, but during a family visit to Austin, she fell in love with the growing music capital of the world and decided to make it her home. Along the way, Nere has learned to embrace her bicultural identity while confidently taking up space that is rightfully hers. "Be all the things," is her mantra, and even I have adapted that into my own life. She also explains why she started her own Latina bookclub and how it's changing her and other Latinas' lives.
