Lasers on the Ride

S02e61 is out and the Lasers welcome artist/director/educator Narcy to the program! They kick things off with talk of kicks and then the weather before reminiscing about rap times of yore and giving props. They take a look at the intricacies of the Montreal music scene and re-visit some early Narcy music before hitting nostalgia and ‘Top of the Hour’ to Q&A our way. Moving on, Markings steps in doodoo regarding women’s rights and Narcy shares some insight into some spicy tweets he let off concerning music bizness politics in the province. Markings doubles down on the patriarchy and Narcy talks educating the music youth before everyone plays ‘Secret Life of Wax’ to hypothesize on some vinyl. They talk racial and then robot divides before Narcy gets to work on his self-portrait while they chit chat about the meaning behind Marvel, Narcy’s relationship with Talib and Yasiin Bey and brainstorm on the kufi. To close things out, everyone talks vintage streetwear, doing for self and being independent as a creative and growing up. Lasers players!

s02e60 has hit the proverbial streets for your greedy butts. It kicks off with talk of going fugue and what it means to really lose it before taking a look at Nas and self-loathing. They cover cross-overs and flows and hit ‘Top of the Hour’ for that Q&A content everyone’s after before taking a hard pass on neighborhood pride in hip hop. They touch upon the ol’ early announcement, where you gas an upcoming project before it’s done only to never release it, and examine the use of restraint, the nostalgia of ads and the number of exes each Laser has had. They disagree a lil on artistic altruism and the benefits of mentorship and then examine pretension in all its forms. To close out, they speak on Logic’s racial make-up, paying it forward, whatever it is, and get geeky about calendars via menstruation. Lasers!!!

S02e59 has dropped! Finally amirite? The Lasers kick things off with New York rap talk and talk dirty butts before Mike tells a moby dick tale about a local writer and a messy lady. They talk male grooming and general pain suppression before getting into niche marketing and why large followings now feel gauche lol. They hit ‘Top of the Hour’ and talk why not to drink when hosting a podcast before playing some gameshow games surrounding rap music and the culture. They move on to hot topics such as ice cream flavours and then examine why Mike and Markings used to be mean and discuss possible future kids and what traits they’re scared of passing on. To close out, they talk best entertainers out of ‘84, the simpleness of the 1990s, and food, lol. Lasers bebes!!!

S02e58 is here, straight off the presses, ready to go, cooked to perfection for ya butts. To kick things off they talk editing and when to take heed before moving on to men’s privates in their various iterations and talking pet adoption (the only ethical choice folks). They speak Reggaeton and horses, the riding of which Mike bemoans, before hitting Top of the Hour to do Q&A their way. Brittain assigns an animal to everyone to get to the essence of the thing before everyone talks poop as weapon and gear, guys, and they hate on pranks. They talk weird stuff like more poop and internet crime and Toronto slang before boiling Markings down to his building blocks and taking a look at good hair on the wrong people. To close out, they talk problem solving and final words, finally. Lasers!!!

S02e57 has hit the streets and you’re amongst the first to know!! They kick things off with Ruff Ryders talk before the show gets meta and everyone talks serious about the Lasers podcast - the good, the bad and the ugly. They talk dirt bikes, insulting through jackets and matching tattoos before moving on to the art of performing and workshopping Drake’s eventual breakdown. They discuss the sadness that is retired wrestlers and the best era of the WWF before Mike makes fun of aikido and they take a look at the fine line between creating for self and creating for consumption. They talk the stunting effect of fame and Brittain tells a tale of traveling for the wrong reasons and Markings tells us about chow mein Latinx edition before Mike grows tired of the story and turns the music up lol. They hit Top of the Hour to answer questions about fun stuff like learning! and prejudice! and deals! and close out by getting nitty gritty about the show and talking silence and what to do with it. S02e56 is out and it’s a fun one! To kick things off they workshop Brittain’s racial make-up and then move on to a specific fetish (it’s farts) before discussing racial data. They talk being vulnerable, telling the full truth in your relationship, and the extent of shittiness of human beings before moving on to podcast lists and Freddie Gibbs’ new project. They examine gear, and the ability to do good work on bad equipment, before talking those masters that got burned up and hitting Top of the Hour for some questions and inevitable answers. They talk Canada’s love for Kawhi, YG’s love for hard-bottoms and then disagree on what work actually is before weighing a cute face over a good conversation and teaching menstruation to the kids. They talk penis measurements of all kinds, twitter over instagram and the problem with photos these days shakes fist. Blazers!!!!

S02e55 is a b-sides baby, a special lil thing we like to do over here at lasers where we take some previously unaired conversations from earlier episodes and string them together to create a coherent whole. To kick things off they talk neighborhoods and reverse gentrification (white flight!) before the Lasers talk to DD the Destroyer about grey sweatpants and penis prints. They talk bad decisions by the Habs with Julian McKenzie, bad encounters with birds with Dana El Masri and then the nature of things in rap in Montreal with JT Soul before ranking Jay-Z’s discography and workshopping a pretty awful origin story amongst themselves. They talk boasting for the gram with DD, growth causing discomfort with Dana and the toxicity of the NFL with Julian before talking funk music with JT Soul and exploring confrontation with DD. S02e54 is here and entertainer/comedy producer Tyler Lemco comes through to keep the Lasers company and talk life stuff. To kick things off Tyler shares a lil about his current projects before everyone examines the reality of seed money and then the pains of selling (it burns!!). Tyler shares his new comedic pursuit and how a lil bit of coaching is getting him to where he needs to be before Brittain talks entrepreneur school being a real thing and everyone talks making what you like in order to truly succeed. They hit ‘Top of the Hour’ to answer some questions, explore drug use to become a better person and talk early crushes and the acute pain of unrequited love as a teen. They discuss bombing and getting better at being uncomfy before Tyler talks a lil about coming full circle with Epic Meal Time and Mike and Tyler share their respective lists. They talk potty humour and the hilarity that ensues, the miracle that is the bidet and the craziness of that Kevin Spacey video that hit youtube last year. S02e53 has arrived and it’s just the regular gang of guys and gals here to chit chat and entertain your butts. They kick things off by exploring forced ebonics and continuity mistakes in film before taking a look at comfy club clothes and getting into the nitty gritty of sporting Timbs. They take a look at 1984, the year, and Lionel and Nicole, the Richies, and then discuss what it means to step away from music and what to do with the actual body of work when you do. They take a closer look at Schoolboy Q’s career and talk tour life just a little before hitting Top of the Hour to be honest ‘bout stuff. Markings shares his podcast list to get some stuff off his chest until he and Mike disagree on the best approach to piercing in music and they examine the ins and outs of being objective about one’s own product. They talk lo-fi studio set-ups and what’s actually required to create professional sound and then Spike Lee’s legacy and the caca he’s currently churning out on Netflix before comparing and contrasting him with Tarantino (only one can remain). To close out, Mike and Markings share the current status of their musical endeavours and a lil bit bout where they are on the journey before Brittain and Mike enter a relationship issue that everyone dissects and they talk telling the truth to your loved ones and yourself. Tom shares a little about getting sober and talks leaving the church when you’re deeply invested and Mike shares an awful ending to a night out. They talk marketing a podcast and bang for your buck, hit Top of the Hour to get intimate-ish, and weigh the pros and cons of twitter as a platform.
