Last Breath Huntcast

HUNTROVERSY!!! This week, we have 12 different shots we have seen/heard of taken on deer. The question is...which ones are okay to take with a gun, which ones are okay to take with a bow? We cover quartering to shots, frontal shots, head shots, neck shots, the "Texas heart shot," and more!

Over the last 14 seasons, we have planted a ton of food plots. Some have died, some have come in too late, some were underfertilzed, and some we're in the wrong spot. In this episode, we cover the biggest footplot secrets we have learned in the past that have made the last 3-5 seasons very special for us. Everything from how we construct our plots to funnel deer past us, to how we maximize our foot plots while maintaining realistic expectations.

Alan Yates killed his first Turkey Saturday morning! We talk about how we punched a tag on his first tom ever, and were lucky enough to fill a second tag! If you haven't already heard, Alan has a pretty unique beginning to hunting, and he chronicles his adventures on his own podcast and social media channels called, "Journey to the Hunt". For someone who just began hunting 2 seasons ago, he already has learned a ton of lessons, and made a bunch of great memories!

Third season is almost over, and we managed to kill 3 birds over the weekend. Logan and Ali started it off on Friday morning with a gobbler right off the roost that came into the decoy spread and put on a show! Saturday...we got our @$$es kicked! But, on Sunday, we were able to reap another pair of turkeys in about a 45 minute stretch! We recap all of the hunts that we went on, and what we think led to each Tom in the bed of the truck! Thanks for listening!

After 7 days of turkey hunting, we have 3 tags punched. Garrett reaped a turkey during 1st season in Illinois. Then, over the weekend, Matt was able to punch a tag on Illinois public land. Yesterday morning, Ali was also able to kill her 1st turkey ever...reap style! It was a pretty awesome weekend of hunting, and we recap what we believe the critical moments of each of the hunts were in this episode! Thanks for listening, and we hope you kill a turkey soon!

HUNTROVERSY!!! The question is not if we agree or disagree with pen raised game! The question is why does some pen raised game such as deer and elk get more hatred online than a hog or bird? We weigh in on all the pen-raised game we can think of to hunt in the United States, including: birds, hogs, stag, exotic species, elk, mule deer, and whitetail deer. Why are some more hated than others? This is a good one for those of you who enjoy the HUNTROVERSY episodes!

Have you ever thought to yourself what made a turkey hunt so perfect? Why was that gobbler so fired up? How far is the ideal distance to hunt from the roost? What calls should you use? Should you call to a bird on the limb? How much should you reply to a tom? When should you stop calling? How long should you wait before moving on? These and other questions are some we try to answer this week in an effort to understand what made a turkey hunt so special?

HUNTROVERSY!!! There is NO QUESTION that it is our duty as outdoorsmen and women to get others involved. The question is...WHEN is a youth hunter actually ready to get involved with hunting? When is too early? When is too late? How can getting into hunting too early create some complications for kids? We cover these questions and more in this weeks huntroversial topic!

Since turkey season is fast approaching, we dive into the first of many turkey topics that we will be covering this spring. In this episode, we talk about reaping turkeys, and strategies that we have used over the last several years to reap turkeys in the wide open. We cover our camo, gun, boots, vest, and most importantly, how Garrett built a reaper decoy. Reaping turkeys is as fun as it gets, and is one more great strategy you could use this spring to kill more turkeys. We also cover the do's and don'ts that we have learned over the years of reaping turkeys.
