    Ephesians 6:10-18

A lesson on the whole armor of God (Eph. 6:11) is a good review of the equipment God has supplied us with to fight against the whiles of the Devil. Today we want to be sure and stress two very important details that sometimes are overlooked, but NO LESS important to our success!

As we read throughout the text of Ephesians 6:11-17 we learn that we have been given very special battle gear. What are each of these pieces made of?

"He Must Increase, But I Must Decrease"
    John 3:30

John the Baptist demonstrates great love for Jesus and an incredible example of humility in his discussion captured in the end of John chapter 3.

John 3:29,30: The one who has the bride is the bridegroom. The ___________________ of the bridegroom, who stands and _______________  _____________, rejoices greatly at the bridegroom's voice. Therefore this _____________  _____  ______________ is now complete. 30  ______  must  ___________________, but _____  must  ___________________."

  • Traveling Well

    Series: N/A

    Service: Sunday AM

    Type: Sermon

    Speaker: Jamie Helmick

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path”
    Psalms 119:105

One way to travel well is to know where you are going before you head out. In our lives as
Christians our goal is to follow Jesus in the examples He set forth for us in the Holy Scriptures. (Mt.
    16, Mk. 8, Lk 9)

    “You ________ ______ _______ to where I am going” -Jesus (John 14:4

As stated above, we want to follow Jesus. In that effort we also desire to take others along with us.
We have indeed tasted that the Lord is good and want others to share in the goodness and
    righteousness of God. (Psalms 34:8)

One way to to do that is to take people along with us on a journey through the scriptures. Road
mapping our Bibles helps us navigate the story of God’s redemptive plan for man more easily.

6 Verses to map in our Bibles to aid in our study and sharing the Gospel with others:

    1.  ___________________________________
    2.  ___________________________________
    3.  ___________________________________
    4.  ___________________________________
    5.  ___________________________________

    • Other verses that supplement ideas from verses referenced above: ______________________________
     ____________________________________________________________________________________

Be willing to take the time. Be willing to make a plan. Be willing to trust your Guide.
Be willing to share the Gospel!

The one who rejects me and does not receive my words has a judge; the word that I have spoken
will judge him on the last day.

  • Being Passionate About God

    Series: N/A

    Service: Sunday AM

    Type: Sermon

    Speaker: Jamie Helmick

As we work to develop our lives in faithfulness to God, we recognize the wisdom of God in His
commands to tell others about His love for us and the saving power of the sacrifice of His Son.
This is but one of many ways we plant the seed of the kingdom!

? The ______________ of heaven is like a __________ of _____________ seed that a man took and
    ___________ in his field… (Matt. 13:31)

? What am I passionate about?

    • What can I usually talk about without much prompting? __________________________________
    • What am I a “subject matter expert” in? ______________________________________________
    • What do I notice myself getting excited about when discussing? ___________________________

? Jesus teaches us that where our treasure is is where our hearts will be. Does this make me think
differently about my material possessions and how much effort I put into them?

? Do I love Jesus enough to tell other about Him? YES / NO -Even strangers? YES / NO

? Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends… Ref- John 15:13

? What two characters do we see in today’s lesson that demonstrates this level of love?
    ________________________ & ____________________________

? Can you write a good definition of evangelism? ______________________________________________

? Can someone obey the Gospel after hearing it only one time? YES / NO

? For I am not ________________ of the ______________, for it is the _______________of _________
for _____________________ to ______________________ who believes, to the Jew first and also to
    the Greek. (Romans 1:16 )

Lord, help me sow the seed. Strengthen my hands and my mind to work in the kingdom everyday. Help me to
develop a compassion for the lost. Help me share the Gospel with others with greater zeal.

    1 Peter 3:15
“in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to
anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and
    respect…

How well we think we know God determines how we approach learning more about Him.

? It is interesting to see what God requests in Exodus 25:8, ” And let _______ make ____ a ____________, that I
    may ________ ____________ them.”

? In understanding the basic layout of the wilderness Tabernacle, where was God found by the High Priest?

? How often could the High Priest go into the Most Holy Place?
    a. once a week       b. once a month      c. once a year

    • What are at least 3 temples we know of that were fashioned after the Tabernacle:

    1. _______________________________________________
    2. _______________________________________________
    3. _______________________________________________

    • Looking at how the priests came to the tabernacle to serve God can illustrate our own ________________ path of
    _________________ to _______.

    • According to Hebrews 4 who is our new High Priest? ______________________

Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all,
having obtained eternal redemption. Hebrews 9:12

    • Considering Jesus’ sacrifice for our sins, what should our response be according to Romans 6:1?
“What shall we say then? Shall we ____________ in _____ that _________ may abound?

    • 3 Very important things we learn about God when we study the Tabernacle:

    1.  ____________________________________________________
    2. ____________________________________________________
    3. ____________________________________________________

Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of

    Key Text Joshua chapters 7 & 8

The battle to keep a fit mind that is disciplined, holy and pleasing to God is of grave importance given the barrage of wicked and sinful temptations around us!

As the Israelites crossed the Jordan, when did the mana stop? (Ref. Jos. 5:12)

“And the _______ ceased the ______ _________ they ate of the _______________ of the land. And there was ___ ___________ manna for the people of Israel, but they ____ of the ________ of the land of ____________ that year.”

Approximately how far was Ai from Jericho? _______________

How much higher in the mountains was it than Jericho? ______________

Who was the man that caused Israel to fail in battle? __________

    What did he do? _________________________________________________________________

Am I ever tempted to do things God has told me not to?   YES  /   NO

What can we learn from his example about sin that should help us avoid those kinds of situations?

    _______________________________________________________________________________

Only when we confess our sins and reconcile with God through the blood of Jesus in baptism will we be able to stand before Him.

Were the Israelites victorious once they were able to get the sin out of their camp?   YES  /  NO

    Closing thought:

Sin is so very destructive. It often leads to damage of others as well as ourselves. Sometimes in ways we cannot remedy. By guarding our minds and purging sin from our lives we will stand victorious over our sins with God’s provision.

  • Happy New Year!

    Series: N/A

    Service: Sunday AM

    Type: Sermon

    Speaker: Jamie Helmick

What might we be able to accomplish this new year for the kingdom of God?

    •  ___ can do _____l things through _________ who strengthens ____. (Philippians 4:13)

We have taken time to build up our confidence after many attempts by Satan to destroy it!

-And he will try again so always be watching!

Our new focus for 2023 is “_________ of a ____________ seed.”

Our new focus is geared to take our confidence in God to the next level.

Jesus teaches the value of a grounded and lively faith. A faith that is visible and active every day. James teaches us that if we say we have faith but are not active in it, our faith is actually dead!

“So also faith by ________, if it does not have ___________, is dead.” (James 2:17)

_______________________- Is an example of someone of “little faith”

_______________________- Is an example of someone who had “great faith”

As we work diligently to let our faith develop like the mustard seed in Matthew 13 we will take hold of new opportunities to serve God and one another.

By developing our faith in God we will be pleasing to Him.

    • We will be more zealous to tell others about His Word & His Son

    • We will have a greater focus on growing closer together as a family

    • We will find a strength that will weather the most difficult trials this life has to offer

May the Lord work mightily in your life this year! May He bless all of us here at Laurel Canyon  as we work together!

Some of God’s most wonderful gifts are those of ________ & _________.

However, one could argue that God’s GREATEST gift is: (Ref Rom.6:23)

    _________ life in ___________ ___________ our _________ !

In order for one to embrace the personal need for salvation, you must first recognize the devastating nature of sin…

-We must not harden our hearts to our sin

-We must be willing to be “pricked in the heart”

-We MUST be willing to recognize our sin and repent of it

2 Thessalonians talks about God taking vengeance on unbelievers in flaming fire. That sounds pretty terrible!  But far worse is the “punishment of ____________ destruction _________ from the ______________ of the _______”!

Luke 19:20 provides us some much needed encouragement and hope:

“For the Son of Man came to _______ & __ _________ the _______.”

No matter how sad, dark, or lonely we may feel, if we are willing to surrender to God and His plan for our lives we can be made like the freshly fallen snow. (Ref. Isa. 1:18)

As we count our blessings this holiday season let us all make sure God’s love, the sacrifice of His Son, and the hope of salvation are all at the TOP of our lists!

    Closing Thought:

Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift! -2 Cor. 9:15
