Constable George Tedders, of the Laurel County Constable’s Office, was shot on Monday evening, May 3, 1886, and died the following morning, on Tuesday, May 4, 1886.
This podcast is the story of Tedders' murder, his assassin's arrest, trial, and sentence, as well as what we know about Constable Tedders and his family.
NOTE: The surname Tedders had numerous other spellings, including Tedors, Tutters, Tudors, and several others. The spelling used for this podcast is the spelling used by his children and the spelling that appears on his wife's tombstone.
This episode was written in honor of Peace Officers Memorial Day, an observance in the United States that pays tribute to the local, state, and federal peace officers who have died, or who have been disabled, in the line of duty.
Peace Officers Memorial Day is celebrated on May 15 each year.
In May, 2024, Laurel's Legacies paid tribute to Deputy Sheriff William Harrison Reams of the Laurel County Sheriff’s Department, who was killed in 1854 while acting in the line of duty.
