Roger is a teacher and student when it comes to life.
Having served as an Idaho teacher, principal, superintendent, and ultimately chief deputy state superintendent, Roger has a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing rural education, and appreciates the fierce independence of Idaho and Idahoans alike. Prior to joining the Foundation as Executive Director in 2013, Roger was co-director of the Idaho Leads project at Boise State University’s Center for School Improvement and Policy Studies, and served as an Assistant Professor in the Executive Educational Leadership Program. Roger remains active in the business community through his service on a variety of boards, including Chairman of the Teach For America Regional Board.
As Executive director of the J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Family Foundation, Roger has also assisted with Mission43. The title of this episode is the tagline for Mission43. Mission43 provides post-9/11 servicemen, women, and military spouses opportunities to succeed in Idaho after the military through the pillars of education, employment and engagement. Mission43 is fully funded and led through the generosity of this private family foundation.
The Albertson Family Foundation’s philanthropic history started in 1966 when Joe Albertson, the founder of the Albertsons grocery stores, began to give back to Idaho communities. This was mainly done through educational opportunities for Idahoans because he and his wife, Kathryn, were not able to finish college during the Great Depression. Since then, the J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Family Foundation has given over $700 million throughout the state to make it a better place to live, work, and play.
Roger is an avid outdoorsman and tennis player. He loves Idaho and cares about our community! Listen to the podcast, enjoy and share with your friends!
