Is it the right branding, color scheme, logo design, business card, or website? If you have been, as I have been, one of those who seeks to be approved of, acknowledged, appreciated by others then have probably tried many strategies to accomplish this goal. LEAD WITH GENUINE FRIENDSHIP With every challenge in life we find ourself needing outside input. We need advice, perspective or at minimum someone to hear us out as we think and process. Someone who can hear our deepest concerns, listen to our truest hurts, accept our darkest flaws. We need a friend. Someone to be completely transparent with and share every thought in safety and confidence. I have my own litmus test for who these people are in my life. Perhaps these parameters will help you. 1. They must possess equal or superior in intellect, spirituality and communication skills. 2. They must be equally invested - they have as much to lose by breaking confidence as I do. 3. They must demonstrate they truly love me. For those reasons, the circle is small. For high level leaders such as a pastor or CEO this friend is very difficult to find and even more difficult to trust. Be cautious in selection but diligent that you do it. When you are willing to submit yourself completely and lose your own identity, you can be friends with everyone. Sorta.... Grace is recognizing, acknowledging and even appreciating the rights of others to have a passionate opinion you do not believe or agree with. LEAD WITH THE RIGHT QUESTIONS. Here are the three questions I ask every client. I believe if you can answer these questions, the answers will frame the quality, nature and actions of your life. 1. WHAT DO YOU WANT? 2. Who is your heart broken for? 3. What solution can you offer for their broken heart? Generally it takes about four to five months to deeply dive in and answer these questions from the core rather than the surface. LEAD WITH COURAGE AND COMPASSION WOVEN TOGETHER Today marks a day which changed the face of our nation. Unity was found in the most bizarre places BECAUSE we realized we more drawn together by a cherished way of life than we were divided by minuscule differences. Don’t get me wrong, Americans highly value their uniquenesses, their nationalities, their families of origin, their skin color and their sexuality but it is their FREEDOM they cherish most. My favorite commercial following 9/11/2001 was the one which showed all the homes along the street on 9/10 and then again on 9/12. The only difference was a US flag on every stoop. We are not a perfect nation, but we are a blessed nation. We have our flaws. We have our short comings. We have and must deal with our past mistakes, and hurts. We have to admit and pay the price for our failings. However, in light of all of those truths I am still thoroughly convinced the United States Of America is the greatest nation on God’s green earth and we should be the light of the world as a beacon of hope.
