  • Lean In 13: Wisdom: Paula Shaw: The Quest To Self-Acceptance

We all just want to be seen for who we are, so when we don’t quite fit into the ‘normal’ mould, we can end up feeling isolated and like we don’t quite belong, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Maybe you need to accept yourself for who you are.

Welcome to Lean In. A podcast that explores ordinary people’s extraordinary lives through honest storytelling. My guests share with me their journey of discovery, laughter, personal experiences and healing.

If you are going through a change or challenging period in life, Lean In is the space where we can surrender to the cycle together.

In this emotional and spiritual deep dive of an episode, I speak with my personal mentor and extraordinary friend Paula Shaw. Paula is an intuitive healer and psychic, working with all the unseen realms of this world for most of her life. She incorporates her own psychic vision with some of the world’s most ancient healing modalities, through tarot readings and astrology.

From a very young age, Paula has been receiving psychic energies and information. Over time, she has learned to channel these energies and has dedicated her life to conducting soul guidance readings for others.

As the proud creator of The Luna Project, Paula has guided thousands of people towards a life of proactive ritual through her continuous monthly program which navigates the monthly moon cycles to bring you into a deeper connection to our inner soul wisdom.

Paula doesn’t often tell her story, that’s why this episode is so special. Today she reflects on seeing ghosts as an eight-year-old and struggling to explain her reality.

We look at her long stint living the gypsy life with the psychic circus while exploring why she was ejected from Sunday school, and how she went from chronic insomnia to just letting go.

    Also in this episode:

    • How Paula discovered her spiritual abilities
    • How a ghostly figure led to acceptance
    • Why reading a Dolly magazine created Paula’s new astrological path
    • Paula’s Psychic Circus adventure and a surprise life changing gift from her mother
    • Why fear and misunderstanding created acceptance in Paula’s life

  • Your Space 12: Worthiness

Welcome to ‘Your Space,’ an embodied and direct experience that allows you to engage in a restorative moment of calm, to unwind, reflect and be nurtured.

This session of “Your Space’ is the partner for episode 12 of “Lean In”: Worthiness: Kate Reardon on the Road to Knowing Who You Are.

There are always big challenges in life, sometimes when they show up we can enter into a space of excitement, curiosity or even fear. Should the path become difficult, our mind may start to create a narrative that prevents us from embracing the moment and reaching your fullest power and potential.

Feelings of unworthiness or undeserving of your successes can become an unwanted fixture. We should always greet unworthiness like an old friend and speak to him, then we can begin to change the story.

In this accompaniment to episode 12 of ‘Lean In’, I will be your guide through intuitive and easy meditations, emotional processes, guided visualisations and the occasional blunt truth to get your body realigned, your mind relaxed and your soul stirred.

The perfect addition to help you to lean in.

In this episode, the tables have turned and our usual host Kate is firmly nestled in the hot seat, with her husband Pat sitting in as host.

For those just joining the Lean In clan, Kate is a qualified practitioner of Naturopathy and Nutritional Medicine. She’s an intuitive metaphysical healer, yoga teacher, a published author, keynote speaker and one hell of a wife and extraordinary mother.

Kate initially began her career as a holistic health practitioner, setting up her clinic in Australia, before officially taking the leap to become the co-founder and managing director of the award-winning, world-renowned fasting detox retreat centre, Natural Instinct Healing in Bali.

Kate’s nomadic nature and relentless curiosity means she’s an explorer at heart, not only in travelling the world but also in finding out how she can help people achieve radical healing and transformation – mind body and soul.

In true Kate fashion, this conversation is a raw, open, and honest. She takes us through the starting points of her own healing journey and the harrowing experiences that drove her there.

This session of “Your Space’ is the partner for episode 11 of “Lean In”: Determination: Katherine Maslen on the Never-Ending Healing Journey.

We all carry our own baggage with us through our lives, a culmination of joy, pain, fear, loss and love. For some, the more negative experiences hold them back, while others use their positive life moments as the fuel that drives them forward. The difference usually between these two groups of people is the determination to reach through obstacles and make a difference to their life, and those they bring with them.

In this accompaniment to episode 11 of ‘Lean In’, I will be your guide through intuitive and easy meditations, emotional processes, guided visualisations and the occasional blunt truth to get your body realigned, your mind relaxed and your soul stirred.

  • Lean In 11: Determination: Katherine Maslen on the Never-Ending Healing Journey

When we’re deep within an emotional or healing journey, following your intuition and having the right support around you may be the key to tapping into your full potential.

In this episode of Lean In, I’m reconnecting with my bestie Katherine Maslen at my parents’ home back in Australia.

Now, I know I may seem biased but Katherine is an absolute powerhouse of a woman. She’s a mother, clinical naturopath, nutritionist, author, and podcast host of the first of its kind audio documentary series on gut health, The Shift.

Coming from a past of extreme grief and trauma, Katherine has gone on to complete two bachelor degrees in health science and naturopathy, founded Brisbane Natural Health, Australia’s first membership-based holistic health clinic and the international wellness company Shift.

If that’s not enough, she speaks internationally on health and wellness, and has written a bestselling book ‘Get Well, Stay Well.’

In this highly candid conversation, Katherine dissects her turbulent past life.  She hones in on her abusive childhood, drug addiction and the people that saved her life.  We talk about why the healing journey never ends, and why being the victim just doesn’t serve you.

    • The victim crisis and why we need to confront it

This session of “Your Space’ is the partner for episode 10 of “Lean In”: Dream Big: Joyce Azzam on Finding Your Inner Power.

Our lives can sometimes get lost to the day to day steps, the small things we need to do. There are some among us though, that look beyond this narrow focus of daily life and see a much bigger goal. A bigger dream to achieve. And while there is a similarity in achieving big dreams and living daily life, the smaller steps needed to complete massive goals. It is when you accomplish those big dreams you realise you’re on top of the world and can almost, almost, touch the sky.

  • Lean In 10: Dream Big: Joyce Azzam on Finding Your Inner Power

Dream big, explore, and dare to take the risk. The beauty you will find in accomplishing your dreams will help guide you towards a place of wholeness.

In this deeply inspiring episode, I speak with Joyce Azzam. Born during the Lebanese Civil War in Beirut, Lebanon, Joyce and her family had to flee their home multiple times in order to survive, often taking refuge underground.

Originally taught to fear nature and all its potential dangers, a headstrong, teenage Joyce decided to accompany a friend on a hiking trip, which ultimately opened her eyes to a new world and fuelled the fire for exploration and mountain climbing.

Armed with the catchy slogan, “mountains are my mentors,” she took travelling to a new level, striving to become the first Lebanese woman to have climbed 26 mountains around the world.

Recently, Joyce successfully completed the 7 Summits Challenge, climbing seven of the world’s highest mountain peaks. On top of all this, she has studied hard for her three master’s degrees, in Interior Architecture, Governance Models & Management of Local Public System and Conservation of Historic Cities and Buildings.

She has smashed her inherited cultural female stereotype, and laid out a clear message, that anyone can live out their dream coining #YESYOUCAN as an initiative to motivate others, particularly young women, in achieving their goals.

    Also featured within this episode:

    • Joyce’s journey through a devastating Civil War
    • How Joyce found a love for nature
    • Contending with Hypermobility Syndrome as a hiker
    • Facing your fears and why you must set goals
    • Smashing stereotypes, how Joyce is inspiring women
    • How the mind is more powerful than the deed at hand
    • Just try it – Life is fleeting
    • How to find the right ingredients for success

  • Your Space 09: Vulnerability

Welcome to ‘Your Space,’ an embodied and direct experience that allows you to engage in a restorative moment of calm, to unwind, reflect and be nurtured.

This session of “Your Space’ is the partner for episode 9 of “Lean In”: Vulnerability: Emily McDowell on Opening Yourself Up To New Beginnings.

In today’s modern world there is something to be said for the common links between us as humans. While it feels like these links are becoming rarer and rarer each passing year, the truth of how vulnerable we all feel is a constant in our lives. In fact, the very thing that pushes us away, our fear of our vulnerability being exposed, ironically is what binds us in truth. When we embrace and share our vulnerability, the possibility of connection is endless.

In this accompaniment to episode 9 of ‘Lean In’, I will be your guide through intuitive and easy meditations, emotional processes, guided visualisations and the occasional blunt truth to get your body realigned, your mind relaxed and your soul stirred.

  • Lean In 09: Vulnerability: Emily McDowell on Opening Yourself Up To New Beginnings

New beginnings can be unpredictable and scary, but if you just take that chance to unchain yourself and take the leap, they can also be incredible.

In this episode, I speak with Emily McDowell the inspirational writer, illustrator and multifaceted entrepreneur. In 2012, Emily moved away from her hard-earned career in advertising to begin an illustration business, designing and making not-so-average greeting cards.

By January 2013, Emily McDowell Studios became a global talking point after she released her true to life empathy cards that encapsulate life’s emotionally awkward moments, with honesty, humour, and heart.

The non-traditional empathy cards came from her own experiences with grief and this much-beloved collection started taking the world by storm. Emily has since been featured across hundreds of media outlets, including BBC News, NBC, Good Morning America and The New York Times.

Emily takes me through her influentially artistic childhood and how she climbed the ladder towards success, only to find it had been propped up on the wrong wall. She speaks about the greetings card that went viral and explains why we need to prevent internalisation by genuinely feeling our feelings.

    We also discuss:

    • A true artist from day one
    • Entering into her cancer phase of life
    • Emily’s advertising career path and where it led too
    • Wake the F**k up! – Why a friend’s death changed everything

Welcome to ‘Your Space,’ an embodied and direct experience that allows you to engage in a restorative moment of calm, to unwind, reflect and be nurtured.

This session of “Your Space’ is the partner for episode 8 of “Lean In”: Redreaming: Mel Loh on Refuelling Your Life’s Motivation.

The lived experiences we have can sometimes be hard for us to see through and gain a different perspective and view in another light. This can also be said for the experiences we have while we sleep. To be able to revisit a dream and see it from a new and exhilarating viewpoint, to redream, is a phenomenon few have the pleasure of experiencing.

In this accompaniment to episode 8 of ‘Lean In’, I will be your guide through intuitive and easy meditations, emotional processes, guided visualisations and the occasional blunt truth to get your body realigned, your mind relaxed and your soul stirred.
