Sahih al-Bukhari – The Book of Tawheed – Lesson 14 (25/02/17)

Chapter 7: The Statement of Allah: " It is He Who has created the heavens and the earth in truth”. (Al-An'am 6:73)

Today we covered:

• The Tawheed of ruboobiyyah

Explanation by Shaykh ibn Uthaymeen:

• Allah created the heavens and the earth in Truth (he truly created it) and it was done with a true purpose.

• To create – meaning to cause to be from non-existence.

• In how many days did Allah create the heavens and the earth?

o What are the lessons we can take from this?

Hadith 1: narrated by ibn ‘Abbas:

The Prophet used to invoke Allah at night, saying, "O Allah: All the Praises are for You: You are the Lord of the Heavens and the Earth. All the Praises are for You; You are the Maintainer of the Heaven and the Earth and whatever is in them. All the Praises are for You; You are the Light of the Heavens and the Earth. Your Word is the Truth, and Your Promise is the Truth, and the Meeting with You is the Truth, and Paradise is the Truth, and the (Hell) Fire is the Truth, and the Hour is the Truth. O Allah! I surrender myself to You, and I believe in You and I depend upon You, and I repent to You and with You (Your evidences) I stand against my opponents, and to you I leave the judgment (for those who refuse my message). O Allah! Forgive me my sins that I did in the past or will do in the future, and also the sins I did in secret or in public. You are my only God (Whom I worship) and there is no other God for me (i.e. I worship none but You)."

Hadith 2: Narrated by Sufyan:

(regarding the above narration) that the Prophet added, "You are the Truth, and Your Word is the Truth."

• We went through the narrators of the hadith, their names and biographies

• The hadith starts with praise of Allah

• What does Rubb mean? What / who are the ‘Aalimeen?

• We go through the full explanation of each phrase in the above dua.

Chapter 7: The Statement of Allah: "And He is the All-Mighty, the All-Wise.” (Ibrahim 14:4). “Glorified be your Lord, the Lord of Honour and Power! “(As-Saffat 37:180) “Honour, power and glory belong to Allâh and His Messenger” (Al-Munafiqun 63:8) and the one who swears by the Honour and Power of Allah and His attributes.

Today we covered:

• Recap from last lesson – regarding the attributes of Allah.

• The names of Allah: al-‘Aziz and al-Hakeem

The names of Allah: al-‘Aziz and al-Hakeem

Hadith: on the authority of Ibn ‘Abbas: The Prophet used to say, "I seek refuge (with YOU) by Your 'Izzat, None has the right to be worshipped but You Who does not die while the Jinns and the human beings die.

• The names of each of the narrators and what the scholars said about them

• Who is ibn ‘Abbaas?

• Who is al-‘Abbaas?

• This hadith is a proof of the ‘Izzah of Allah

• In the previous lesson we covered the three different types of ‘Izzah

Hadith: Narrated by Anas: The Prophet said, "The people will be thrown into Hell ( Fire) and it will keep on saying, 'Is there any more?' till the Lord of the worlds puts His Foot over it, whereupon its different sides will come close to each other, and it will say, 'Qad! Qad! (enough! enough!) By Your 'Izzat (Honor and Power) and YOUR KARAM (Generosity)!' Paradise will remain spacious enough to accommodate more people until Allah will create some more people and let them dwell in the superfluous space of Paradise. "

Extra benefit – one should not be rocking forward and backward when reading Qur’an and mutoon because it is a characteristic of the Jews.

• The names of the narrators and what the scholars mention about them

• This hadith affirms a number of attributes of Allah

• The People of Sunna affirm the attributes of Allah such as His Foot as mentioned in the hadith and they do not interpret or reject them.

• What do we say about those who ask excessive questions?

• An important discussion surrounding the wisdom behind the stance of the People of Sunnah regarding the names and attributes of Allah
