Sahih al-Bukhari – The Book of Tawheed - Lesson 5 (10/12/16)

Today we covered:

• The importance of Tahweed

The focus of the following chapter is the names and attributes of Allah

• Why was this verse the heading of the chapter?

Say (O Muhammad SAW): "Invoke Allâh or invoke the Most Beneficent (Allâh), by whatever name you invoke Him (it is the same), for to Him belong the Best Names. (Al-Isra 17:110)

• A description of each narrator in the chain

• What is a “Mukhadhram”?

• Principle: every name of Allah has an attribute (Sifah), but not every Sifah has a name.

• All the names of Allah are perfect in every sense with no deficiency whatsoever.

• We describe Allah with what He described Himself (in the Qur’an & Sunnah)

o We affirm what everything Allah affirmed for himself (Ithbaat)

o We Negate from Allah everything which Allah has negated for himself

• There are four basic rules (mentioned by Shaykhul Islam in al-Waasitiyyah):

o We do not do Ta’teel (rejection), we do not reject the names and attributes of Allah

o We not not do tahreef (distortion) we do not change or distort what Allah has informed us of in the Qur’an & Sunnah

o We do not do Takyeef (give descriptions), we do not attempt to give descriptions [of our own]

o We do not do tamtheel (trying to compare Allah to the creation)

• Who are the Mu’attilah and the Mushabbihah?

• What are the beliefs of the people of innovation?

• Many examples to aid further understanding were given throughout the lesson.

Lesson 18 – Bayqooniyyah in the sciences of Hadith – Explanation of Shaykh Abdullah al-Bukhari | Abu Muadh Taqweem

This week we covered:

- The terminology of Mu’an’an.

- Chains using the term “An” – a less direct term than “Heard” or “He narrated to me”.

- Recap of the previous 2 of the 3 positions towards the term “An” from the people of Hadith.

- The narrator may be known for tadlees (leaving out narrators), then his hadith is not considered to be connected

- Position 3 – when the narrators are contemporaries, not known for tadlees but are not known to have met.

- Imam Muslim accepts such narration, however, Imam Bukhari requires the narrators to have been known to have met
