In this week's Premier Skills English Podcast, Jack and Rich talk about the language you need when you meet someone for the first time. They talk about informal and formal situations and focus on the informal and formal language you can use in different situations. When should you say, 'It's an absolute pleasure to meet you' and when should you say, 'Hey, How you doing?'. It can be difficult to break the ice so Jack and Rich roleplay three different situations where you might find yourself in the future. Your task is to listen to each roleplay and write a similar dialogue using the phrases we introduce in this podcast. In this week's Premier Skills English podcast, Rich and Jack talk about speaking exams. They focus specifically on the long turn which is the part in many international exams when the candidate has to speak alone for one to two minutes. Speaking exams can be difficult but there are things that you can practise to become better at them. Rich and Jack talk about the importance of using linking words to contrast ideas and the use of circumlocution strategies when you can't remember a specific word or phrase. In this week’s Premier Skills English podcast, Rich and Jack talk about the problems that learners can have when they have to listen and respond in noisy places. Outside the classroom, life is rarely quiet! One of the most complicated tasks for learners is when they have to listen and respond in situations where there is a lot of noise e.g. a cafe, a football match, a town centre or wherever loud music might be playing. Jack and Rich roleplay some different situations to give you some practice and give you some tips and advice on listening in noisy places. The language focus is on the language we use to ask for clarification and repetition. The task is to reply appropriately in three noisy situations on the telephone.
