Isla ng Apo at Mount Apo

Apo Island and Mount Apo

Apo Island is located off the coast of Negros Island in the Philippines, while Mount Apo is located on Mindanao Island. Both are volcanoes, although the similarity—other than the name—mostly stops there.

Apo Island is a small volcanic island that's less than one square mile in size. It is not currently an active volcano. The island is best known for its marine habitat, which is a protected area for marine life. Because of the unique marine life there, it is a popular destination for snorkelers and divers. Both of the two resorts on the island have separate dive centers. There are more than 650 different types of fish documented around the island and more than four hundred different kinds of coral.

Mount Apo is a solfataric stratovolcano that has the potential to be active. It is the tallest mountain in the Philippines, and it sits just outside Davao City, overlooking it. We do not know when it last erupted, but it does emit steam, so it has the potential to become active. Mount Apo is probably one of the most popular places for climbers to visit in the Philippines. It takes about two days to reach the top of the mountain. UNESCO is currently considering adding Mount Apo to its list of World Heritage sites, especially because it is considered to be the main location of endemism on the island. There are six different indigenous tribes who call the mountain home. The volcano also serves as a major source of geothermal energy, and it is connected to the only plant of this kind on the island.
