Following on from the episode about complaining, Roy and Ania zoom out and take a broader look at Poland, Polish people and the Polish language. Roy has lived in Łódź for 20 years, so his observations carry real weight. He talks about the culture shock of Polish roads, why he loves the parks, how Poles react when he speaks Polish, and what he genuinely thinks of Polish people as a nation. Ania pushes him on national character: pride in the country, the importance of family, traditional values, and why Poland feels safe. A relaxed, cultural episode with plenty of natural everyday vocabulary.
Great for intermediate learners who want to go beyond grammar and understand the country and people behind the language.

Roy and Ania explore one of Poland’s most talked-about cultural traits: narzekanie — the art of complaining. They discuss what Poles complain about most (weather, fuel prices, work, neighbours), whether Roy ever complains, and why Ania thinks she narzeka more than she realises. The centrepiece of the episode is the expression “stara bieda” — a phrase you will rarely find in a textbook but hear constantly in real Polish conversation. If someone asks “co u ciebie?” and you answer “stara bieda,” you are saying: same old, nothing new, life goes on.
A short, punchy episode loaded with cultural insight and vocabulary you will use from day one.

Roy and Ania open with a classic Polish quote about loving what you do, then dig into an honest conversation about work: the jobs you hate, the jobs you love, and what it takes to make the switch. Roy talks about his 22 businesses, his first job cleaning glasses in a pub at 17, and why a clear mind matters more than a big salary. They also explore how toxic work environments affect home life, and why separating work from family time is something most people struggle with.
A practical, conversational episode that builds vocabulary around careers, job satisfaction, and everyday working life in Polish.
