The Painted Monasteries are located in the northeastern part of Romania in Bucovina.
The outer walls of these eight churches are covered in elaborate and intricate frescoes dating from the late Fifteenth to Sixteenth Centuries.
The paintings are effigies of prophets and saints, portrayals of scenes from Jesus' life, depictions of demons and angels, and representations of heaven and hell.
UNESCO added seven of the Painted Monasteries to the list of World Heritage Sites in 1993 and the eighth in 2010.
The frescoes are adjudged Byzantine masterpieces and have been well-preserved over the centuries.
The paintings on the walls of the monasteries are not isolated, separate pieces but rather are systematically and punctiliously done to illustrate full story cycles.
They tell stories from the Bible and from the lives of some of Orthodoxy's most important saints through images.
The frescoes cover all of the facades of the churches, and UNESCO calls them a "homogeneous artistic phenomenon." The Painted Monasteries and their murals are the quintessential example of Moldavian church construction and decoration from the Fifteenth and Sixteenth Centuries.
The eight churches are the Beheading of St. John the Baptist Church in Arbore, which was built in 1502; the Dormition of the Mother of God Church in Manastirea Humorului, which was built in 1530; the Annunciation Church in Vatra Moldovitei, which was erected in 1532; the Exaltation of the Holy Cross Church in Patrauti, which was constructed in 1487; St, Nicholas Church in Probota, which was built in 1530; St. George Church in Suceava, which was built in 1522; St. George Church in Voronet, which was constructed in 1488; and Resurrection Church in Sucevita (which is located inside the Sucevita Monast [...]

    ----Formal English----
    WHAT TIME IS IT?
    WHAT IS TIME?
What time is it right now?
People talk about time a lot, but what is time?
    Time is when things happen.
Time is also how long it takes for things to happen.
    UNITS OF TIME
Clap your hands fast four times in a row.
One second passed while you were clapping.
Sixty seconds make up a minute.
Sixty minutes make up an hour.
Twenty-four hours make up a day.
We keep track of time with clocks.
Let’s learn how to use a clock to tell time.
    ANALOG CLOCKS
Analog clocks have numbers in a circle.
The two hands point to different numbers.
The short hand tells the hour, and the long hand tells the minutes.
The numbers are for the hour.
Are the short and long hands lined up?
Then it’s right on the hour.
The numbers on a clock are also for minutes.
    Each number is five minutes.
Each little line between the numbers is one minute.
Count by fives for all the minutes in an hour.
Count the same way the arrow points.
The minute hand tells how much time has passed after an hour.
This clock shows ten minutes after four o’clock.
The time is “ten past four” or “ten after four” or “four ten.”
You can write the time as 4:10.
