جنون ایک پاکستانی راک بَینڈ ہے۔ جس کی 1999 میں لاہور میں بنیاد رکهی گئی۔

یہ پاکستان اور تمام جنوبی ایشیا کا وہ کامیاب ترین بَینڈ ہے جسے نیو یارک ٹائمز نے "The U2 of Pakistan" کا عرفی نام دیا تھا۔

بَینڈ کے وجود میں آنے کے بعد اس کے انیس البمز جاری ہو چکے ہیں اور دنیا بھر میں اس کی موسیقی کی 30 ملین سے ​​زائد کاپیاں فروخت ہو چکی ہیں۔

اسی بَینڈ نے صُوفی راک کی بنیاد ڈالی جسے 1990 کی دہائی میں کامیابی ملی۔ اپنی تشکیل سے بِیس سال پہلے نیو یارک میں اس کا آغاز ہو چکا تھا۔

تاہم بَینڈ ان کے تہہ خانے سے آگے نہ بڑھ سکا کیوں کہ سلمان احمد اپنے والدین کے ساتھ 1981 میں پاکستان لوٹ آئے اور طِب کی تعلیم کے لیے کِنگ ایڈورڈ میڈیکل کالج، لاہور میں داخل ہو گئے۔

سلمان احمد کو جنون کے آغاز کا خیال تب آیا جب انہوں نے خواب دیکھا کہ ایک استاد نے انہیں جھنجھوڑ کر کہا کہ تم موسیقی میں مَست ہو۔

اگرچہ پہلے کچھ سال بینڈ کو محنت کرنا پڑی مگر پھر ان کے انقلاب نامی تیسرے سٹوڈیو البم کے جاری ہونے پر بلاک بسٹر شہرت نصیب ہوئی۔

یہ اس حوالے سے منفرد تھا کہ اس میں مغربی موسیقی اور کلاسیکی صوفی موسیقی کی آوازوں کا مرکب تها.

اسی دوران ان کا اکیلا گایا ہوا گیت "جذبہ جنوں" اس سال کرکٹ ورلڈ کپ کے تھیم سانگ کے طور پر منتخب کر لیا گیا۔

Junoon is a Pakistani rock band that was established in 1999 in Lahore.

It's one of the most prosperous bands in Pakistan and all of South Asia, having heard the moniker "The U2 of Pakistan" from The New York Times.

Since the band's inception, it has released nineteen albums and sold more than 30 million copies of its music globally.

The band pioneered Sufi rock, attaining success in the early 1990s.

It had its genesis in New York twenty years before it was even formed.

Lead guitarist and songwriter Salman Ahmad migrated to New York at the age of eleven and was initiated into the rock music movement through a Led Zeppelin concert after a friend proffered him a ticket.

The concert so enthralled him that he saved up money to purchase an electric guitar.

He also became friends with another aspiring musician, Brian O'Connell, and together, they formed their first band called Eclipse.

However, the band never made it beyond their basement as Salman returned to Pakistan with his parents in 1981 while Salman enrolled at King Edward Medical College in Lahore to study medicine.

Salman Ahmed got the idea to start Junoon when he dreamed that a teacher shook him and told him that he was obsessed with music.

While the band struggled for the first few years, it became a blockbuster hit after releasing its third studio album entitled Inquilaab.

It was unique in that it blended music from the West with the classical sounds of Sufi music.

Around the same time, their single "Jazba-e-Junoon" was selected as the Cricket World Cup's theme song for the year.
