In 1 Corinthians 2:6-16, we see the absolute necessity of the work of the Spirit of God to open our understanding to the truth of Christ. Sinful humanity on our own will not come to know God apart from the sovereign grace of God through Christ. His Spirit gives us understanding that we might know the Lord and live for His glory. In 2 Thessalonians 2:1-5, Paul takes up again the theme of the second coming of Christ. The church had individuals trying to deceive them away from the truth of Christ's return. Throughout this passage, we are reminded of the glorious eternal hope we have as Christians in the Lord Jesus!

In 1 Corinthians 1:18-25, we see the Apostle Paul reminding the church in Corinth of the central message which is Christ and Him crucified. This message is despised and looked down upon by the world, but it is in reality the message of divine power and wisdom. We as the church boast only in the cross of Christ!

How does the truth of Christ's return encourage believers in light of suffering? In 2 Thessalonians 1:5-12, we see the perfect judgment of Christ bringing eternal blessing on those who know Him and eternal judgment on those who do not. We are encouraged in light of these truths to be faithful, marvel at the glory of God, and share the Gospel that Christ might be glorified through the salvation of souls!

What are the sources of divisions and quarrels in the life of the church? Even more, what is the solution? In 1 Corinthians 1:10-17, we see the Apostle Paul rebuking the church in Corinth for being man-centered and prideful. The solution for division is always the Lord Jesus Christ. May we be faithful to pursue Him as the church today!

How does the church grow over the course of time? What does it look like to continue to walk faithfully with the church and encourage each other in the Lord? We begin the book of 2 Thessalonians where we see the continuing instruction inspired by the Spirit of God through Paul to the church. He is thankful because he sees the love and faith of the church growing. Their steadfastness in the midst of persecution is a testament to the Lord's work.
