In the parable of the wheat and tares, the master tells his servants not to pull the weeds that have been sewn into his field, "lest in gathering the weeds you root up the wheat along with them."

In explaining the meaning of this parable to His disciples, Jesus revealed that the weeds represent the 'sons of the evil one" while the good seed represents the sons of the kingdom of God.

So what does this parable have to tell us about the nature of the church, and how we are to respond to those who are not true disciples of Christ?

In the Parable of the Sower, Christ tells His hearers about seed that falls on a hardened path, on rocky ground, and ground covered in thorns - all of which represent those who do not experience salvation. However, He also tells of a fourth type, which falls on good ground and produces fruit.

Part two of a three-part study on the Parable of the Sower. In this part we look at the third type of soil Jesus pictured for us, representing someone who receives the message of the Kingdom of Heaven, yet is held back by the cares of the world and never produces any fruit.

This pictures a false convert who may remain within the church yet is shown by their lack of fruit to be outside of Christ. There is in fact no such thing as a carnal Christian, just as it is impossible to serve two masters.
