Welcome to Let’s Talk Wellness Now, I’m your host, Dr. Deb. This is where we talk about everything wellness, and learn to defy aging, and live our lives on our own terms. Welcome back to Let’s Talk Wellness Now, I’m your host, Dr. Deb, I’m so happy to be here with you today. And we’re going to talk about Lyme disease. You know, it isn’t a conversation that people are talking about enough, in my opinion, I think it gets overlooked. And I’m amazed, maybe I shouldn’t even use the word amaze, maybe I should say appalled, because that’s what I actually am. I’m appalled by the number of practitioners that still today will tell patients that Lyme disease doesn’t exist. I don’t know, where they’re being taught that. I don’t know why they believe that. But it saddens me because there are so many people that are going untreated, or are mistreated, simply because somebody doesn’t want to admit that Lyme disease exists in their area, or they were told that we don’t have line in this area. What are you talking about? Why do you believe this? You know, I have been treating Lyme disease for gosh, 20 plus years now. And when I started out, I knew very little about Lyme disease. I knew what it was, but I didn’t knew how much it impacted someone’s life. And I had the luxury of sending all of my patients up to my friend Steve Morris here in Fond du Lac. And I started seeing his Our patients come back and feel so much better and have symptoms that they had been dealing with for decades, some of them start to magically disappear. And it really intrigued me, because I I’m one of those practitioners that I like to know what is going on. I like to know what’s happening. I like to dig I like to figure out those weird cases that other people can’t figure out. At my clinic, we are known as the medical detectives for that reason, because we will keep digging, we’ll keep searching, we will keep trying to find the answers until we find them for you. And, of course, we’re not perfect. Sometimes it’s really hard. And sometimes it takes a long time. And sometimes we just really don’t know we’re like in a loss. And we have to bring in other experts to help us try to figure out what it is we’re missing. But I will tell you that happens very rarely these days, that we can’t figure out what’s going on for someone. But back to the story. So when I was very young in my practice and didn’t know a lot about Lyme disease, I decided to go learn. I went up and met with my friend and watched him practice and listen to him take care of patients. And I remember sitting there just shaking my head going, oh my gosh, I hear this every day. And I’ve been missing it. And by the end of the day, I realized that all of the things his patients were complaining about were things that I had dealt with over the course of about six or seven years and didn’t know what was going on didn’t have a clue. And for those of you who’ve heard me share my story before my medical doctor diagnosed with me with fibromyalgia, and I never had fibromyalgia. I had a thyroid disease. But after learning about Lyme, I also recognized that what I had was a lime infection. And I was living in a house that had black mold. And those three things kind of did me in and no one ever asked me about the house I was living in no one ever asked me about a tick by no one ever asked me about anything in the traditional Western medicine world, and I hear this story quite often from patients where they don’t want to listen. They just simply want to put a bandaid on it. They want to give an antidepressant. They want to give an anti anxiety med they want to

push you aside and say Do what you have going on isn’t physical, it’s somatic, it’s in your head. And I’m going to tell you that in the 10,000 Plus patients that we’ve treated at my office, I don’t know of one that I would say had symptoms that were all in their head, they were making it up. I understand that people that have multiple symptoms, and they sound strange, they sound weird. They don’t make sense. People don’t believe you. I understand where they get labeled as it’s all in your head, or you’re crazy. But I can tell you from all of the practice that I’ve done, that’s not the reality. Can Lyme disease or tick borne disease make you feel crazy? Absolutely it can. It can cause anxiety can cause depression, it can cause brain fog, it can cause memory issues. You know, it can cause a lot of those psychological symptoms, the OCD, learning difficult difficulties, focus concentration issues, it can cause a lot of those things. But that doesn’t mean that that’s what the cause is, it just means it’s a symptom of what’s going on. You know, the other thing that we rarely talk about when it comes to tick borne illness or chronic illness is the fact that these diseases can disrupt your hormonal function. And it is not uncommon for us to see people go into early menopause as a result of having a tick borne illness, or lose their sperm counts and have low testosterone and low growth hormone and in more progressed, advanced aging can happen. These are all symptoms that happen as a result of the tick borne illness. And when the tick borne illness comes in, and takes over the hypothalamus and the pituitary, which are the Divas of our hormonal system, right, they’re up in our brain, they are the Divas, they make us get all of our hormones, and they control everything. Well, they can certainly cause you to have an early decline in your ovarian production. Especially we see this with toxic mold, people who have been exposed to toxic mold for a long time and didn’t know it, they can go into early menopause, it can just disrupt their hormones enough, where they’re having problems with their menstrual cycle, you know, it’s off, if it doesn’t come regularly, it’s heavy, it’s light, it’s a couple of days, and then it’s gone again. And then two weeks later, here, we are bleeding again. And so we have to realize that even though our bodies been parted out into specialties, I let that’s what I usually like to call it, you know, we

have a specialist for everything. And the specialists are grateful for them because they know things about diseases that the rest of us don’t know, because we don’t study that specialty. However, in that same token, when we’re not looking at the body as a whole, it’s very easy to miss something. And if we just think, well, your hormones are just your hormones, and you need to see the endocrinologist or the gynecologist and they’ll know exactly what’s happening with that. That’s not necessarily true, because if they don’t understand that tick borne illness or mold toxicity or chemical toxicities can cause your hormones to be out of balance. Well, then they’ve just missed something. You know, even the chemical toxicity that we’re seeing today, causing effects on the liver and on the heart and on the brain are incredible. I can’t tell you how many people we treat that have fatty liver disease as a result of having an exposure to some kind of chemical in their lifetime that either they worked with or that they came in contact with maybe they were living on a piece of property that was toxic, or they were near a piece of property that was toxic. You know, we’re all hearing right now about the lawsuits with camp la June and Campbell is June is just one of many toxic dumps that our military and their families have been exposed to and the people in those towns have been exposed to. And one thing that we never think of is if I was exposed to that when I was a young woman, and I bore a child on that property, or shortly after living on that property, can my child be affected? And the answer to that is yes, they can depending on where my toxic load was when I was pregnant, I could pass some of those toxicities on to my child. And when we’re looking at numbers of The increased risks of autism reaching one in two by 2030, or 2035, I think it is, we have to start looking at what is going on in our environment that’s causing these problems today. If we don’t start looking at what’s going on environmentally, we will never get to the point where we can truly treat and address these issues. Now I get that there’s a community of people that say, we just need to accept people for who they are and how they are. And that’s fine. But if we look back in history, we know that we have never had this many complications born to children before. Now, some of you are going to come on, and you’ll you’ll disagree with me and say, well, we lost children all the time back in the day. Yes, we did. We lost children. But it wasn’t to things like we’re dealing with today, we lost children back in the 1800s, in the early 1900s, primarily to infection, because we didn’t have a way to treat infection back then. Or they were they were lost in childbirth, because we didn’t have a way to get the baby out safely, before we lost both mom and baby. So there were a lot of losses to children back then. But it was not as common to have a child born with a disability, like what we’re talking about today. And from a natural aspect, I’m looking back and saying, Okay, what has changed in all this timeframe? Well, the biggest thing that has changed is the chemicals and the toxins that are dumped into our environment every single day, whether it’s by companies, whether it’s by our own government, whether it’s by people, whatever it is, you know, even our soils are depleted of their nutrients, because of all the toxins that we dump on them. So we can grow bigger crops, so we can have better supply so we can make more money. And I understand that from a farming family, I understand that. But I also understand the damage that these chemicals are doing to our people, and to our children. You know, when we’re seeing skyrocketing numbers of cancer, we have to stop and take a look and say what is causing this. And so I know I’m off track a little bit, and I apologize for that it’s so easy for me to get off track and go down these rabbit holes sometimes. But

you know, when we’re looking at Lyme disease, these are some of the other things that we’re looking at. So typically, with Lyme disease, there can also be a chronic mold toxicity that’s happened or other infections that happen, especially viruses, viruses love to attach to bacterias. And we’ve heard a lot of discussion these days about Retroviruses and what they’re doing and how they’re happening. And in the Lyme world, we’ve talked about retroviruses for a long time, not to the same degree that we’ve been talking about it recently, since the whoo flu. But we’ve learned a lot about these Retroviruses and how to treat them and how to address them and how to manage them. Are we good at it yet? Probably not. We’re okay at it. But we’re not great at it because there’s still a lot of decoding that needs to take place. In order for us to be able to truly address some of these retroviruses. In my experience, I’ve had the best success dealing with retroviruses in using herbs, the antivirals that we have are just not that great. They’re they’re meant to treat the herpes family viruses. And if it’s not in that family, it’s probably not going to help a ton. But in the herpes family virus like HHV, six or HSV or HSV, one and two, those things, even shingles, because it comes from that same family can do pretty well with the antiviral medications that we have out there. But without having enough, the best thing that we have is herbs because they’re broad spectrum. They cover a lot of areas, they’re easy to get access, most people tolerate them very well. These days, they’re much less expensive than prescription medications are. So using those along with different antimicrobial herbs or antibiotics can be extremely helpful. What I’m going to tell you today, though, from a lime aspect, what I have seen over the last five to seven years in treating Lyme is it’s getting much more difficult to treat. Where in the past we could use oral antibiotics or start an IV antibiotic. And a couple of weeks later, somebody will already be turning the corner. Or at least we’re seeing some change whether it be good or bad, we’re seeing some change in there, it’s getting much more difficult, we’re not seeing that same benefit these days. And so if you’re seeing a Lyme literate practitioner, and you’re feeling as though they’re bringing out a ton of different things to you, that’s probably why because we’re seeing changes, we’re seeing more resistance, I can tell you from an aspect of my practice, what we’ve been doing more recently, is implementing a protocol of multiple modalities. And that seems to work much, much better. So we’re using biofeedback, we’re using lymph drainage, we’re using detox, we’re doing IV, nutrition, IV, antibiotics, IV, ozone, we’re using peptides, we’re using all kinds of things, photonic therapy, we’re using all kinds of different things to help address that chronic Lyme person. Because without doing all these modalities, even at one time, it can be a challenge to get that lime under control, where if we use multiple modalities together, we’re seeing much better success. And quicker results actually. And I can share a story with you from a young patient that I just saw last week, who has been truly debilitated for the last three to five years, she’s not been able to function not been able to go to school not been able to work. The first couple of times I saw her, she couldn’t sit up, she couldn’t have a conversation. And we implemented this very drastic protocol, as some people would say, with her over a two week period of time. And I can tell you, my heart just filled with joy when I saw her. After about 10 days on the protocol. She was bright eyed, she was smiling. When I saw her in the office, she was talking, we had a conversation and the young woman is so intelligent and bright. And it’s amazing to see that kind of turnaround in just a couple of weeks.

But these are the kinds of things that that can turn your life around. Do they take commitment? Yes. Do they take time? Yes. Are they costly? Yes. Does insurance cover it? No, insurance doesn’t cover anything these days. As a matter of fact, we were just notified a week or two ago that the Obamacare plan insurance company is raising their premiums and their deductibles. So the new Obama plan deductible is going to be $9,200, I believe it is 9100, maybe for a individual and it’s going to be 18,005 for a family. Where is that helpful for anyone, you’re already paying an astronomical premium. And then the insurance company isn’t going to cover anything anyway. And so what I have found over time is many people exhaust their funds inside the western medicine, treatment and don’t get anywhere, and then there’s no money leftover for doing the treatments that really make a difference. And that is it’s so hard. And it’s so challenging, and it breaks my heart. But at some point, we got to get to the place where we tell Western medicine, that they’re not working for us anymore. And these insurance companies to you’re not doing what I want you to do. And another little tidbit about insurance that no one’s talking about. And I suggest that you guys check this out, because the tax restriction or the tax penalty, I should say, for not having insurance goes away this year. But nobody’s talking about that either. So the mandate for you to have insurance, otherwise you’re going to be penalized on your taxes is by by this year. So there’s a lot of people that are going to start saying, forget it. I’m not going to carry this kind of insurance for something to cover nothing. And they’re going to start looking for insurance policies and plans that meet their needs that pay for what it is they want, and pay for what they need and what they do. And so, you know, if you’re in that boat, I would encourage you to talk to a knowledgeable insurance person to help you find a plan that’s going to pay for the services that you want and need and not the services that the federal government and the insurance companies think we need, because they’re not helping us in any way. And they’re in a lot of cases, delaying treatment from people, because they have to go through the hoops of, you know, seeing their primary seeing this specialists having this test on having that test done. And before you know it a year and a half has gone by, and you still don’t have a diagnosis for what’s going on with you. And one or two visits with an integrative medical practitioner, you could have figured out what was going on. And it would have costed a fraction of what the insurance company builds, or what the hospitals build your insurance. And if you disagree with that, I would just encourage you to go back and look at your explanation of benefits your EOB that shows what the hospitals and doctors charged your insurance company and what the insurance company actually wrote off and what they paid. Because it’s a significant difference these days, and

they are your gatekeepers, they are preventing you from getting the care that you need, and you desire. So just take a look at those things, make decisions for yourself on your own health care, work with people that are going to get to the root cause of your problems, and listen to you and believe you I mean, that is probably one of the saddest things that I hear every single day is a patient who is talking to their practitioner and telling them everything that’s going on, and they don’t believe them. They don’t believe that they’re that sick, they don’t believe that they’ve had these problems for this long. And everybody deserves to be listened to everybody deserves to be heard. And everybody deserves to be believed until proven otherwise. Right? I mean, that is how we were raised. That’s the golden rule. But today, it seems like it’s a bigger problem. Because today, nobody believes anybody, nobody trusts anybody. And in the medical world, if we don’t believe our patients, and we don’t trust them, and they don’t trust us, we’re going to have a real difficult time breaking through to them and getting them to do what we need to do for both parties, right? I mean, if if as a patient, I don’t trust my practitioner, am I going to call and let them know when something’s going wrong? No, I’m not going to, I’m going to go to Google or I’m going to go to a friend or I’m just going to stop something and I’m not going to talk to anybody about it. And that’s really where the problems become an issue. Because we don’t trust and we don’t want to rely on each other. And in the world of tick borne disease and mold toxicity and chemical imbalances, we need to be able to listen to one another, we need to be able to trust one another, we need to be able to have an open dialogue with one another. So that’s my soapbox, and I apologize. Because I couldn’t get ranting on some of those things, you know, but let’s talk about some of the symptoms that we’re going to experience with all of these. And so many of the symptoms are overlapping in every single piece of this. So mold, which we call mycotoxin, chemical toxicity or tick borne illness, Lyme disease and some of its CO infections. A lot of the symptoms are very much the same. We’re talking about lack of focus, lack of concentration, muscle pain, joint pain, that’s migratory in nature. We’re talking about numbness and tingling and twitching and headaches and blurred vision and vision changes. You could have ear ringing or ear pain, sore throat, swollen glands, limp swelling underneath the armpits, you can have a lot of Gi discomfort. So gas and bloating and diarrhea and constipation, a lot of insomnia, a lot of foot pain happens. And the weird thing about all of these symptoms is they’re usually not constant. The symptoms typically come and go and they ebb and flow. And there’s no real pattern to them. There’s no rhyme or reason. Like you can have muscle pain and you didn’t do anything. Or you can have numbness and tingling and you’ve never had that before you can get weird twitching in different parts of your face that you’ve never had before. So these symptoms kind of come and go they’re random in nature can’t find a pattern to them.

Oftentimes they can Come on slowly, so you don’t really notice them. Like you might have a sore knee one day. And you’ll think, Oh, I just overdid it, I went for a walk, or I went for a jog or I was working out at the gym. And then all of a sudden, it’s the right shoulder and the left elbow and the large toe, and then it’s the ankle, and then it’s your neck, and then it’s your fingers. It just randomly pops up. And it’s not until the symptoms start talking louder and louder, that people put together what’s actually happening. And that is why it’s called the great silent disease, because the symptoms do not follow any patterns. That makes sense. So if you’re struggling with these kinds of symptoms, what I would really encourage you to do is meet with an integrative practitioner, talk about your symptoms, let them do the history and ask the questions that nobody else asks, dig down deep and find the answers for what’s going on with you. And the testing is simple. Oftentimes, it’s a blood test, or a urine test, or a saliva test. It’s not complicated. most insurances don’t cover some of these tests, sometimes there is insurance that can cover it. But honestly, if you’re looking at testing to figure these things out, it’s it’s a couple $1,000 to do it, but it gives you the answers, and it gives you the answers very quickly. And then you can start putting together a plan of care that works best for you. And, and one that will get you better as soon as possible. I will be honest with you treating tick borne illness and mold mycotoxin disease is not a quick fix, it is not something that a month later, after you do treatment, you’re going to be better and everything’s going to be gone. It’s not like that, it can take a very long time to get under control. And depending on how long you were sick, or how long we think you might have been exposed to these things, the longer it can take to get better. But I don’t want you to give up I want you to stay the course and know that if you’re working with a knowledgeable practitioner, they will get you where you need to go and it will not be as bad as you think it is. And today, we have a little different topic for you something that we haven’t talked about before, something that’s a little controversial in many aspects. But I’m really excited to talk because I think it’s good for us to explore different topics and different things. So we’re actually going to talk today about psychedelic medicine. Now, what the heck is psychedelic medicine, it sounds like it’s a crazy thing. But it’s actually where people micro dose psychedelic drugs to treat various conditions. You know, in ancient times, especially in shamanic, cultures and practices, people use something called Hiawatha, and they would use that to journey to the upper world or the lower world. And it allowed them to break through the problems they had in their mind where they may not be able to connect to their spiritual world. There are some Native American cultures that have used different drugs, things that we call drugs, they call plants and they truly are plants. But in in the culture that we live in today, we call them drugs. And they would use things like that for ceremony. We’re not necessarily talking about the exact same products or materials, but our guest, Matt Zemon. Today is going to talk to us about psychedelics and what are they? Why do people use them? And you know, what to expect when they’re using them. And I think it’s just a great exploration for us to see how do these things work. Now, Matt has finished or I should say, has firsthand information and knowledge about how psychedelics have helped people in different walks of life. And his goal is to normalize the conversation and reduce the stigma. He has a master’s in psychology and neuroscience and mental health. And I think this is a conversation worth having, because so much of what we do in mental health today is not effective. You know, people are depressed, they’re anxious, rightfully so for a lot of people. But the medications that we’re using the SSRIs, and the anti anxiety meds don’t normally work for a lot of people, they will feel better, but they won’t feel great. And they will say I don’t feel like myself. And now we have this huge stigma around even anti anxiety meds, things like Lorazepam and clonazepam that had been on the market for years. I mean, we’re talking 25-30 years. valium is another good one. And we have people saying, wait a minute, sorry, you’ve been on this for 15 years. We have a different belief of this today than we had, you know, 10 years ago, 15 years ago, when someone put you on this, you can’t have this anymore. And we’re just stopping people cold turkey on these medications. That is so unfortunate and unfair to that person, because they don’t have an alternative. Nobody’s offering up an alternative for them. And so they’re left with being physically addicted to these medications to being psychologically dependent on them, because that’s what controls their anxiety. And that’s what helps them get through the day and function. And yet, we’re not recognizing,

nor are we compassionate about what these people are going to go through when we take these medications away from them. And that’s truly the problem that I see in all of the medications that we’re using today. That down the road, the government and the DEA He is going to claim that you can’t use this anymore because of these different reasons. So, without further ado, I’m gonna bring my guest on Matt and we are going to chat all about how psychedelics are working today. I know Zeeman that is it. All right. There we go. Well, welcome to the show. I’m so excited to have you here today we have an interesting conversation to talk about. And tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got involved in this.

I’m happy to do that. And it’s it’s I’ve been looking forward to this conversation and Dr. Deb, you have such a, you have a unique audience. And then the challenges that they work through, I think ties right into what we’re going to talk about today. So I appreciate you having me on. Yeah, I’m kind of an accidental psychonaut a few years ago, I’m almost four now, I had the chance to do a guided psilocybin experience that really just changed my worldview. And that led me to going back to school to get a master’s in psychology and neuroscience into really doing a deep dive into the world of psychedelic medicine, which then I realized, okay, there’s a lot of stuff out there, but it’s it’s either hard to read, it’s too opinionated, or it’s too woowoo. And I wanted to create a book that was kind of for everybody to read. And that’s where psychedelics where everyone came from.

Oh, that’s awesome. Tell us about your guided What did you call it? Because I haven’t heard that term before.

Matt Zemon 7:53
It’s a psilocybin is it’s the it’s the active ingredient in magic mushrooms. So that’s, that’s probably how you know, it’s yeah, it was it was um, I wasn’t a big drinker. I really wasn’t. I tried cannabis a few times. It just wasn’t my thing. And some, some really trusted friends said hey, why don’t you come do this guided magic mushroom journey with us? I was like, I don’t know, I’m not sure like what you like to learn. And this is a learning opportunity, like to travel and you’re gonna go somewhere and, and see what comes up for you. So I went ahead and did it and, and then I reconnected in this in this magical six hour experience. I reconnected with my mom who died almost 30 years ago, in a way that just just completely I just couldn’t even imagine beyond my wildest imagination. I could kind of pull the connection from her to me to my children. And, and just had just this really incredible experience. And I wanted to understand more about what happened and how does this work.

That’s amazing. I studied shamanism for about the last 25 years. And so, journeying and guided meditations and things like that are very common and in the shamanic practice, they use something called Hiawatha how how similar is Hiawatha to what you did

is similar in that it is both kind of releasing or opening the third eye so it’s allowing you to see things differently and see parts of the world that in a way that you just aren’t normally used to seeing it. Ayahuasca is a much more physical experience when when you do it, there’s typically a purging element to that which is which actually is quite beautiful. I would not have told you that until I tried it but it really is. And it’s a it’s just it’s a different it’s just it’s similar and yet different and it’s hard to Yeah, it’s but it’s um, it is a lovely plays for people. It does very similar in terms of what it can do for for trauma, for anxiety, for depression, for creativity, for connectivity, but it’s definitely more physical than a psilocybin experience.

Awesome. So people who are listening to us are already thinking, why are they talking about all these psychedelic drugs from the 70s? That, you know, we did at Woodstock, and now we’re not supposed to do them anymore? And why would we be talking about something like this in the medicine world today?

Matt Zemon 10:20
I love that. I mean, there’s, I think people don’t realize it right now, there are 309 academic institutions, either studying psychedelics, or with psychedelic centers, the University of Wisconsin, Madison up there has a master’s program in this now. They do. And here we have university, North Carolina, which just got a $27 million grant from the Department of Defense, and Duke has a psychedelic center now. So I mean, it’s, this is Johns Hopkins, and Yale and Harvard and Berkeley and university, California just goes on and on. And this is not fringe science. We’ve had a prohibition on psychedelic medicines since 1970. Since the Controlled Substances Act with with the Nixon administration, it’s been pretty much proven that that was not about science that was kind of wanting to disrupt either the anti war left or the civil rights movement, but not about medicine. And once they started re, kind of reef studying, thanks, really, to the efforts of Johns Hopkins to pick it back up. They’re realizing that oh, my gosh, the results that these medicines can have on anxiety, depression, eating disorders, trauma, and post traumatic stress disorder. I mean, the list just smoking alcohol use, it just goes on and on. The results are just too strong. And that’s led to this kind of renaissance of psychedelic medicine, which is which which many are saying it’s going to be the biggest change in mental health care and 50 years in our country.

Wow. Them started looking at it.

Matt Zemon 11:52
You know, I believe, I don’t, I don’t know for sure. I’m almost positive, it was looking for some options for terminal patients with depression. And I believe that’s kind of worth the hook came. But what’s really, I think, galvanized the country is the work on post traumatic stress disorder. So we have a lot of veterans who have treatment resistant PTSD. Also, victims of sexual assault and first responders and with when the existing existing programs just are not working for enough of them. There is a phase three part two trial that finished that the Multidisciplinary Association of Psychedelic Studies sponsored but this is the FDA gave it breakthrough therapy designation for these treatment response outside of treatment resistant people to sessions with MDMA. 67%, no longer have a PTSD diagnosis.

So they don’t have to take this stuff forever, like they’re taking antidepressants and anti anxiety is that don’t work. We all know that. That’s amazing.

Matt Zemon 12:56
It’s incredible. And those are the kinds of numbers that’s like it makes me it makes my hair and my arms stand up. When you think about these people have had no other option. And now all of a sudden, so MDMA will be legal in this country in the next few years. Wow. And then psilocybin, three, four in the outside, there’s just the data is just too strong. But I think for your listeners, and this doesn’t just apply for PTSD, you brought up antidepressants a moment ago. And ketamine is really a incredible alternative legal alternative that people can do today. And people just don’t know about it. Because, right, there’s no interest in the pharmaceuticals to promote it. It’s a generic.

Debra Muth 13:36
Yeah. And that’s a problem that I see in my practice. I mean, I have patients that have been on antidepressants for years that don’t work, and then they’re on to then they’re on three, and then the side effects are so horrid, you know, they don’t feel like themselves. They’re putting on weight, they’re miserable. They’re thinking about suicide, which seems to be a worsening side effect with every new antidepressant drug that comes out on the market. And then we have this whole host of people over here who have been on anti anxiety meds for 30 years. And now these Doc’s are saying, Sorry, the DEA just came in and said, You can’t keep prescribing these. And so they’re cutting them off cold turkey, and giving them no alternative. And they can’t function. This to me this. This is it’s criminal, barbaric,

The life I mean, you talked about weight gain, but we also lack of energy, lack of the impact on sexual health, from antidepressants. It’s It’s tremendous, and this is SSRIs SNRIs. MAOIs, it doesn’t make a difference which antidepressant? We’re seeing, depending on the study somewhere between 51 and 70, like 72.7% of people having sexual dysfunction, yes and no, that’s a big number and no other option.

No other options. It’s And they’re told, Well, you know what? You can use your antidepressant and not be depressed or you can have a sex drive it well, why should you have to choose, I’m a very strong sexual advocate for women and men, and you shouldn’t have to choose between the two. And the number of people that just get thrown on an antidepressant for every little thing drives me insane. I mean, if patient patients come to see me, and if they have more than two or three complaints, and we both know we’ve been trained this way, then it’s a somatic disease, and they’re depressed and they need an antidepressant. So instead of looking for the reason that they actually have these symptoms, they’re just thrown on these antidepressants and never taken off, right?

Matt Zemon 15:40
And then that’s the it’s the set and forget it. It’s because they’re getting prescribed everywhere. And then it’s just all of a sudden, it’s been a year, three years, five years, 10 years, and you’re still in the same antidepressant, it doesn’t matter what happens in your life does matter. Things have changed doesn’t matter if you’ve started exercising, or if your work has changed, or your family has changed, doesn’t matter. You’re still on the antidepressant. And that’s a so yeah, and then it doesn’t work for too big of a population, the side effects if it does work, the side effect price is high. And nobody is telling them about ketamine. And that seems just I just don’t understand it. But yeah, so there are 400 clinics now focused not just on ketamine, ketamine and mental health, wow. That’s up from like, 75 years ago.

Debra Muth 16:22
So I’m familiar with using ketamine for PTSD and pain. But I’m not as familiar of using ketamine in the depression anxiety world. Can you share a little bit about that? Oh, happily?

Matt Zemon 16:35
Yeah. I mean, so. So ketamine, certainly, where it started, people started with people who are highly suicidal, it’s one of the only medicines you can inject in somebody and within an hour, boom, they’re no longer suicidal. Wow. So then people started saying, Well, wait a minute, if it works for that extreme of the spectrum, what happens with depression, what happens with anxiety? And again, the results are tremendous. There’s there was a study just came out over 1200 patients using at home oral ketamine and it was, to me think you’re 89% showed an improvement in depression or anxiety, and a in 63 of those was 50% or more improvement. Big numbers. So let’s talk about how do you take ketamine you can take ketamine intravenously. So so number of clinics, you go and they put an IV in your arm, and you have a you have someone watching over you, and you have to have it that way. Another one and other clinics do it intramuscularly with a shot, and then you can do it nasally through a nasal spray. And then you can do it orally, which a lot of the virtual companies like mine, and there’s my company called Happy there’s company called New Life. There’s company called Mind bloom, but we’re all doing it orally to keep the cost down for the for the patients because this isn’t covered by insurance. Yeah, it is a cash it is a cash option

for people. Now is ketamine considered a psychedelic?

Matt Zemon 18:01
It is I mean, it really it’s in the psychedelic family. It’s technically a dissociative anesthetic, but it is grouped into this, this hallucinogen category as well. So it’s not a classic psychedelic like mushrooms and LSD. But it is it is considered in the psychedelic family.

Debra Muth 18:19
Wow. So I had my first patient come in on oral ketamine. And she was getting it compounded from a compounding pharmacy and taking it as a trophy every single day. Every day, every day. She was taking ketamine. Yeah, so I heard of it. I spy that. And she is also somebody severe anxiety, severe depression, diagnosed with early stage dementia. And so she had an alternative doc in another state say, let’s try this because this could help with your dementia and your anxiety and depression that may be causing some of the dementia that you’re having.

Matt Zemon 19:01
That’s really interesting. I knew there was a company that was doing kind of super low, almost micro dose ketamine, but I haven’t I haven’t seen any research on this. I don’t know.

Debra Muth 19:13
And I don’t think this was micro dosing, because it’s 100 milligrams a day. Which seems like a lot for me. Yeah, I thought it was quite a lot, too.

Matt Zemon 19:22
Yeah, I don’t I don’t understand that most people. So I can tell you what the standard of the normal standard of care as it exists today, which is typically people do a regime where you do once a week for six weeks. And then after that six weeks, you then spread it out depending on on this on how you’re feeling and so on. And so actually I have a person I know who, at 23 He had his first suicide attempt was on 20 different medications over the last 20 years or so. Went on ketamine a year ago, and he’s he’ll say when I started ketamine a year ago, I was on a scale of one to 60 I was a 53 and depression Wow, he did the six week protocol. One year later, he has a 10 on that same scale. And he takes it once every four weeks. Wow. Yeah. And there’s doctors trying to stretch into six. But for four, we’ve got a dip. So four is what they went with. But um, yeah, I mean, you’re talking about a ketamine experience is about an hour. So maybe allocate to three hours to make sure you have time before and you have time after but this is a very doable thing that you can add into your life, that you then don’t have those side effects. You don’t have the the addiction, you don’t have the withdrawal symptoms, if if it doesn’t work, or you change your mind. It’s a Yeah, it’s it’s not a not as addictive as antidepressants.

Debra Muth 20:47
That’s so nice, because those antidepressants are so difficult to get off of. I mean, I have so many people that just no matter what you do with them, they can’t stop them. Or we’re, you know, we’re titrating off for two years. Because every time they come down, they get the brain zaps, as we call it, right, and they get all these negative side effects that they don’t like. So that’s awesome that they don’t have a they don’t take it every day and be they don’t have those side effects. And actually

super interesting that you’re saying that you just reminded me. So most antidepressants work on serotonin, ketamine, it works on glutamate, so it’s the only psychedelic that you can take while you’re still boy that you really should take while you’re on an SSRI or an answer or any of the antidepressants. So that also allows people to help with the withdrawal process. Because they are, they’re adding this other medication into the mix.

Debra Muth 21:47
That is so nice, because then that would ease them off of other medications and still give them that security of what they need and not having the problems.

Matt Zemon 21:56
Exactly. Yeah, it’s a big deal.

Debra Muth 21:59
Yeah that’s huge. That’s amazing. Is, or are well if ketamine is safe. And then my second question is, How safe are psychedelics in general?

Matt Zemon 22:10
Okay, so that’s let’s, let’s take those in that order is ketamine safe. So when we talk about safety, and I’m assuming we’re talking about all in a medical setting, because if you’re if we’re talking in a medical setting, there really is no data that shows that it has been addictive in a clinical environment. If you’re taking a sub anesthetic doses and you there’s there are some contraindication. So for example, if you have unmanaged high blood pressure, ketamine is not probably a good fit, if you have glaucoma, not a good fit. And there’s a few different medications that we just know, have not ideal interactions with with ketamine. Besides for those kinds of those things. Yeah, it’s incredibly safe. There’s 20,000 papers on the safety and the efficacy of ketamine on PubMed today, and it’s been around since 1970. It was the buddy drug in Vietnam, so safe enough for soldiers to carry to stab their buddy with it if something happens. So it’s, it’s a really safe, stable medicine. But then you’ve talked about psychedelics in general. And this is something that, at least for me, and me, we look like, We’re from the same generation that we grew up in this, this. Just say, No, this is your brain. This is your brain on drugs. And I know I had drilled into my head that drugs are really, really dangerous, they’re gonna fry my brain. Another study came out, and this time it is is and in England, and they compared what is the harm to yourself and others have a whole bunch of different drugs. And if you look at this chart on the left hand side, you have alcohol, you have heroin, you have tobacco, lots of harm to yourself bouts of harm to others, all the way at the right. Tiny, tiny, tiny, you have mushrooms, you have MDMA, there is no lethal dose of LSD as an example. There’s, there’s they are so much safer than these other drugs that we have legal and available for us. And there’s no I mean, most with ketamine and lab animals have shown some addiction properties. None of the other psychedelics have, they’re actually anti addictive. So it’s super, very unique medicine for for these purposes.

Debra Muth 24:24
Now, when you use ketamine for pain, are they starting to transition because we all know it’s a no no for any pain meds these days. And our poor patients who have been in chronic pain that have had pain meds for decades now can’t get it and they’re moving to the street to get it and get other things. And I know they’re using ketamine for pain control. Could you use ketamine like you? Could you use ketamine the same way you are to get someone off antidepressants to transition someone from say an oxycodone or something like that.

Matt Zemon 24:55
It’s truly not my area of expertise with this I know that I’m I mean, at least for your listeners, like one of the things that ketamine is showing do know about is it used on cluster headaches and migraines, incredible results for people with those specific pain symptoms, but I don’t know about it as a as a withdrawal piece. I do know what might be of interest to your audience when it comes to things like alcohol and smoking, that ketamine has proven to be pretty effective to help, again, to help curb that activity, or those activities

Interesting because I would suspect if it’s helping with that withdrawal in that craving, it might have some effect on a dopamine receptor, but not interesting. What it does glutamate have a specific effect on those types of cravings.

Matt Zemon 26:00
I don’t I think it’s all speculative. At this point, I don’t think anyone really knows why it’s working. I mean, so let’s, let’s step back, let’s talk about psychedelics and kind of what they do in general, to your brain. So one of the analogies I’ll give before you go into the science version of this is like you’re used to skiing and you like skiing down your tracks, he keeps going down this track. And as we get older, those tracks get deeper, and those, that’s how we think we ski down the mountain. And when you take a psychedelic, it’s like someone just dumped a whole bunch of snow on the mountain. And now you can ski anywhere you want. It’s like wow, I didn’t know I could do that. I’m always getting these tracks.

Matt Zemon 26:34
So in behind the scenes, the default mode network is being quieted down. Your neurons are firing in ways that they don’t normally fire and a lot of them are activated in a in that normally doesn’t happen. So that’s and then the ketamine if we talk about ketamine, or any psychedelic, it’s actually creating new neurons and starting that process of neuroplasticity or neurogenesis. And so then when you finish a long after the medicines left your body that process is continuing. But for that psychedelic session, whether you call it a journey or a session, your mind is thinking in ways that it just doesn’t normally think and then you can take that information and you can move that into your everyday life and process the look at things differently. So I don’t I don’t say that psychedelics are a cure, but they’re a catalyst or catalyst for positive change.

Now, you had mentioned something earlier about it and helped me with eating disorders, how does that work?

Matt Zemon 27:32
The against a lot of research is on this, I think it’s it comes back to it’s a way of thinking people having disorders thinking a certain way about food and about their body. And and, and they’re into that cycle of thinking, and the psychedelic breaks it up, allows them to think differently. And then they have a glimpse of oh, this is what it’s possible to think differently. And then they can take that into their everyday life. And I think a lot of it also has to do with with when you take a number of these psychedelics, you feel an overwhelming sense of love and safety. I know for me, until I felt it, I didn’t realize I didn’t have it. Like, I was like, Oh my gosh, I knew what my low end of my Register was, my mom died. That was a saddest I’ve ever been. But I just didn’t know that I could feel safer. I could feel more love. And so I did. I was like, wow, I didn’t know this existed back married a long time, beautiful children. I didn’t know I could feel this loved in the safe. And, and psychedelics open that up for me.

Debra Muth 28:35
So the patients that we have that or people that feel nothing, they’re flat, you know, there’s so many more people these days, whether they’re taking antidepressants or not. We treat a lot of chronic illness and the chronic illness tends to affect that and they’ll say I feel nothing. I just I don’t feel joy. I don’t feel sadness, nothing. It sounds like psychedelics and ketamine could help that.

Matt Zemon 29:00
Yeah. Without without a doubt. And I mean, if you were if you were saying everything’s legal today, well, in that particular exactly, what would you Absolutely? Can you try some MDMA? I mean, it’s such a hard opener, you can’t it’s very hard to take MDMA and not feel loved to yourself and loved others, but ketamine, psilocybin, these other medicines, do similar things or can have similar similar reactions. Just ketamine is the only one that’s legal here in the United States if they wanted to go do MDMA, it’s a clinical study or it’s going somewhere else.

Debra Muth 29:32
Yeah.This is so exciting. In the world of medicine, because we have not had anything to help people in this department for a very long time. Mental health is a very challenging condition to live with for both the person and the family. So to be able to have these things open up to them in the next three to five years. Hopefully, that sounds amazing.

Matt Zemon 29:57
Absolutely. And again, ketamine is legal today, but yeah, you’re I mean, when we think about mental health, we think about what are the bio psycho social spiritual components? It’s complicated. So you have the physical biology? And how is it? How’s the medicine going to interact to help somebody’s mental health? What is the psychological things that are happening and experiences? What are the social? What’s the environment that that person is living in? What’s the environment that they’re coming from? What’s environment they’re going to? And then spiritually, do they have any practice? What do they how do they connect to whatever it is that their higher power do? Do they not have one? And all of that goes into, into mental health? And then of course, there’s the physical sorry, left that out to deal with? Yeah. Do they have a? Are they walking? Are they running or drinking water? Are they sleeping? And all of those things come into this. And I truly believe that again, it’s not the psychedelics aren’t the cure, it’s the catalyst to start looking at all of those different elements and making change.

Can someone overdose on a psychedelic?

Matt Zemon 31:03
Can you overdose on a psychedelic? You? I believe that most of these psychedelics, the answer be no, that there isn’t a lethal dose for them? I certainly know there’s also taken too much for a pleasant experience. And I would imagine that if you took too much ketamine, specifically as an anesthetic, that that could be an overdose situation. But most psychedelics, it probably not. That does remind me though, with things like MDMA, when you hear so two things, I’ll talk about MDMA for a second. When we hear about people having, quote, overdosing on MDMA, what’s typically happening is they are dehydrated, and they are, and that’s what’s that’s what’s occurring, or they have MDMA that’s laced with something else. There was a study in another study, where the scientists bought a ton of St. St. MDMA, more than 50%, had 0%, MDMA, where this zero 30% was laced with something and about 20% was pure. So it’s, it’s just again, because we don’t have, we can’t have a open discussion about drugs in this country, people are going underground to buy them, they don’t know what they’re buying. And a lot of times what they’re buying is not what’s being sold. So yeah, I always encourage people, if you can afford the drug, by the test strips, go go to dancesafe.org or one of these organizations, and test your and if you have teenagers out there, where we’ve been the old days, like leave condoms, or help your home get to birth control by some test strips for the block. Hope you’re like, let this the the the ease in which teenagers are finding drugs on things like Instagram and such. But they don’t know what they’re buying. Yeah, and that’s terrifying.

Debra Muth 32:59
Yeah, I’m so glad you brought this up. Because I think this is definitely the conversation that people need to know is that even if you think you know, the person you’re getting it from and you trust that person, you don’t know where they got it from, and so on and so on and so on. And you could be drink, you could be having bleaching baking soda in there for all you know, you don’t know what it is. And so working with someone like yourself, to either get into a study or obtain some ketamine is so important to make sure that you have the right experience. And it actually does what you need it to do.

Matt Zemon 33:38
Absolutely. And that actually reminds me when when people are looking to go back to ketamine for a moment, people are looking to figure out who they’re going to work with. I mean, you’re you’re using a very holistic practice. Yeah. And ketamine that’s there are there are people who have holistic practices, there are people who don’t so there are people or doctors who pursue say, this is purely a chemical reaction. So come in here, sit in our dental chair, I’m gonna put you in IV and you’re gonna walk away and good luck to you. I don’t personally believe in that the research shows that when you combine some type of therapy with the psychedelic doesn’t be licensed, there appears to be guides, but that you have a much higher outcome. So you’re you’re doing kind of the things that we talked about in classic psychedelics, what is your mindset going in? Did you set your intention? Do you know why you’re doing this? Have you thought about that? What is your setting that you’re Are you comfortable? Does it feel clinical? Or does it feel more like You’re like a living room? Or like your house and and are you safe? And are you with somebody who loves you? And he’s going to make sure you’re safe? versus more of the recreational? And then of course, your source. So you get the source set and setting all covered? Your the probability of having a good experiences is pretty high.

Yeah, because the last thing you want to do is do something to help you feel better, and only find that you feel worse and it frightens you and now you’re turned off by this and you don’t ever want to do this again, you don’t want that experience. You want it to be a positive experience.

do people learn more about psychedelic medicine? And if this is something they want to try, or what they need to look for in a practitioner, how do we find that information for our listeners.

Matt Zemon 35:25
So let’s break that into a couple of different buckets. So certainly, I have a book psychedelics for everyone. And then when I say that, I don’t mean everyone should take psychedelics. But I mean, I do think everyone should kind of read this book or read a book like this, and understand what can psychedelics do for society. And let’s at least have the facts on the table so that people can make decisions about what should be legal, or decriminalized or medicalized that are available for religious use all of this ties into the psychedelic community. So I think this book, and I think psychedelics are for everyone to understand. In the book, I have medicine by medicine, kind of a beginner’s guide. What does it do? How do you take it? What does the research say? What do we not know? Those types of things are in here I have some personal stories as well. There’s just tons a for those who are more scientifically inclined, there’s so much research now out there, if you’ve picked the school that you liked the most and find out what they’re doing with with psychedelics. But there’s, there’s a lot of good research on how to change your mind by Michael Pollan. He’s a beautiful book, and then there’s a four part Netflix series, if you’re not a big reader, hop on Netflix four hours of your life, and you’ll know a ton more about psychedelics than you did, than you did before. So those are good ways to find it in terms of finding a retreat or a practitioner. Again, start with with ketamine, there are a number of different directories available online, psychedelic spotlight. Third, wave cyclable all have listings of of, of reputable maps.org has has a listing as well of reputable providers. When you’re looking at overseas providers, or or more of the retreats, that again, I have a chapter in my book just on how to find a good a good retreat, but one of the questions I would encourage people to ask is just how many people are going to be having this experience with me at the same time. And I’ll use Ayahuasca since you brought that up earlier, there retreats out there, well known, well advertised that have 80 to 100 people at a time doing a ceremony. And yeah, they have four liters of the ceremony. That’s a lot of people.

It’s a lot. They have some helpers, too, but it’s a lot. It’s a lot period, there’s, there’s a lot going on. Yes, that many people. So and that’s an heavily advertised one. So asking that question. And knowing what what’s comfortable for you. 10 to 20, that’s a good size group that that’s really nice for this communal experience. 20 to 40, depends on on how many assistance and things you get above 40. And it’s, I just I would question. Question How they’re pulling that off safely and comfortably and in a way that everybody can maximize that opportunity? Yeah, and

I think when you start getting to those higher numbers, you start having to ask the question, are they in this for just the money? Or are they in this to actually help people have a good experience and to help them transition through whatever comes up for that, because that’s going to be the hardest part, right? When you’re doing things like this, and feelings come up, and memories come up. And sometimes they’re not the greatest and sometimes they’re really great, but you have to process that and you’d have to have somebody there that can help you process that and not just feel like you’re left hanging with these thoughts and feelings and experiences.

Absolutely. So let’s dive down that that rabbit hole for just a moment. So some of your listeners will have therapists are ready. What I have found if you just ask your therapist, have you worked with patients who’ve had who are using psychedelics, many of them say absolutely, we won’t provide psychedelics, but absolutely our patients have used this, this and the other thing, great. So if you have a therapist you’re comfortable with, you can ask them to help you prepare. And you can have ask them to help you integrate. And if you know you have that person in place that gives you some more options over who you work with to get the medicine. If you don’t have that person in place, then you may want to ask the retreat you’re looking at what do you do for preparation and integration? How are you gonna help me prepare before I come down there? And how are you going to hold my hand after I’m back in the States or back in my home afterwards? If they don’t have a strong answer to that, go go to that like maps.org is I use them as an example and look at their recommended integrators. There’s a bunch of them and see if there’s one near you. And maybe you can work with them as well. It’s lots of different lots different options there.

That is awesome. I’m having this question come up in my mind, and I’m wondering if you’ve seen any research in them using psychedelics in the autistic population.

Matt Zemon 40:14
super interesting. I went to a dinner last year where there was, so there is an autistic sub culture in psychedelics, and there was one of their one of their members were there, and has talked about how it has really transformed his life. And I had no idea. Why did I have no idea? Well, if you’re a researcher, it’s hard enough to get approval to research psychedelics. Yeah, period. So then, who are you going to pick to research on as like safe of a person as possible. So almost all the research excludes anyone with bipolar, anyone have schizophrenia with anyone with a family member or a parent, sibling, all excluded from all the studies. So they have not studied, they definitely not studied autism, that I’ve seen. And in a scale, there might be some small studies out there. There’s a bunch of what, um, James Fadiman, who wrote the psychedelic handbooks, and really a pioneer in the psychedelic medicine, space, talks about a citizen scientists. So these are people who are autistic, who you can find in Reddit groups and talking about their experiences with psychedelics. So no, no research that I know of that’s of scale. But um, but certainly being used because what happens with autism, it’s again, it’s it’s a it’s a way of thinking, right? It’s a psychedelic and disrupt.

Wow, that is such an awesome thing. I hope that comes to the forefront sooner than later. We do a lot of biomed for autistic population, and some of our kids are really traumatized and could really use something like this to break that thought process and decrease that anger and just repetitive behavior, it would seem like it’s such a common place to be used.

It would seem like it’s a natural place for to be used and could agree with you more. And I can also understand why researchers are not in today’s climate. Yeah, I will share something else has been kind of a surprise to me in the space. And maybe you saw this in the shamanic community that I’m, I’ve been surprised about how many families are doing psychedelics together. So parents and children. I’m really surprised. I just didn’t know that was a thing. But it is. And I wonder with, with many of the providers that are out there when they’re working anyhow, with one on one or very small groups, I wonder if parents with autistic children couldn’t use these experiences together with a practitioner to see where it goes, Oh, whether that’s both of them taking medicine, whether it’s one taking medicine? I don’t know. But it would be interesting,

that would really be interesting. Yeah. And that would, that would make say sense because it would be a safer environment, both for the parent and the child. And give both of them that opportunity to explore and feel differences, but then be able to talk through them too.

Right. That’s the whole I mean, the the ability to to have conversations without the normal blame, shame or guilt is really powerful. In my book I talk about I had a when I was a young teenager, I had a inappropriate sexual contact with a family member 10 years older than me. And I was mortified and embarrassed, I kind of tucked it away as people do. And throughout the years I’ve cut around my life, but I would something would happen in a conversation, my ears would get red or my cheeks would get red. I knew it was there and we’re gonna I’m not gonna think about that. And on this, I’m on one of these psychedelic journeys. I was right back there. I didn’t want to be there. It was not not asked to be back there something dire to talk about. And for the first time, I was able to look at the situation so you know what, she was sad and lonely and just needing love and not forgiving or condoning what she writes but able to look at her as like wow, this is someone who was just hurting and struggling with with substance use and reject it. And it wasn’t predatory as much as it was selfish and again not forgiving or condoning but right understand could have an empathy that I never knew my wasn’t that’s in this search for this particular situation. That was not my thing. And then it he was gone. Like I can talk about it now. I don’t I don’t I’m not it’s just the pain is gone. And I’ve seen that happen with individuals with their specific trauma. I’ve seen it happen between couples and whatever it is that was blocking their the from the love that they used to have from coming through and I’ve seen it happen between parents and children and the children saying When you did this, that hurt, and the parents that have been defensive. So I understand that and when you’re doing this, that hurts in this conversation that just I don’t know if it is potentially easier to take place with these medicines helping, helping with the process.

Wow, that’s so awesome. It’s really exciting for medicine that we’re having some of these things come up. I’m really hopeful that our conventional drug authority like the DEA, and some of these other agencies, don’t attempt to block it in a way that it doesn’t allow the average person to have access to it.

Matt Zemon 45:43
We’re that yeah, I’m certainly hopeful for that to happen when we talk about the FDA approving this. So the FDA has given breakthrough therapy designation both to MDMA and psilocybin. So that’s very positive. That’s good history studies looking good data looking good or positive. One of the questions that, and then this, I have just a separate for a moment. So we have kind of the legalization movement, let’s make this legal, let’s make it medical. Let’s get it approved from the FDA. That’s very different than the decriminalization movement, which is saying no, no, this is this is plant, these are plants, these should be legal period, they should be legal, whether you want it medically or recreationally, whether you want to religiously, it doesn’t matter. It should be legal period. What happens in the medical model, which I think makes a lot of sense, but it becomes there becomes pricing, and then becomes you have to have credentials to serve it, and how many credentials and that changes in what environment and all of that leads to expense on the site, and I think that whole camp is it’s one step at a time. Let’s get illegal. Let’s show this. Let’s work on the medical model. And then we can work another change. Yeah, yeah. The de gram movement is much more of No, we’re not compromising. Let’s make this legal now. And I can understand their perspective. And it is beautiful. They are winning city after city is, is decriminalizing it, which again, allows for personal consumption and in storage and use. not legal, but at the lowest priority for law enforcement. Yeah, it’s, again, it’s a step in the right direction.

Yeah, we’re moving. We have to do something because what we have available today isn’t working. And we have more and more people that are hurting from all aspects of things. And they need they need help. And, and they need to do it in a safe way. With a good experience.

Yeah, they need help. And there are too many kids. I’m having 19,17 year old, or too many kids who are dying from fentanyl overdoses. When they didn’t think they were taking fentanyl. Yeah. And so this isn’t working. So how do we help both? How do we help the people who have depression, anxiety, trauma, eating disorders? Substance use? How do we help them? And then how do we stop our kids from from accidentally overdosing?

so my primary goal with this conversation is to share information we are only available in Florida, the it’s happy with two eyes happy.me And it’s a virtual option. So with us, you come on you get assigned to a prescriber, or who will work with you if you’re eligible, we’ll take a medical intake will prescribe you the medicine and then we facilitate the rest we hope we help the the pharmacy send you the the compounding pharmacy, as you mentioned earlier, send you that we connect you with a guide who’s going to help you with your intentions, we give you a a workbook and then we The guide also helps you integrate and then we give you digital therapeutics every day for a year different ways to establish we trade happiness all sorts of different things so some people might be attracted to the breath work others to the exercises, other two meditations we’re gonna give you a lot of different ways to to to develop happy habits. But I certainly encourage people if if we’re if you’re not in Florida, go look at if and you liked the virtual option and you feel safe at home looking at new life, look at mind blown look at these other companies that are doing similar work. And if you want to go into a clinic field trip is opening up multiple locations across the country. There’s some really good providers out there who are combining mental health with with ketamine and it’s legal so you don’t have to worry about drug tests. You don’t have to worry about your employer. It’s legal. So I just regardless of where you go, goes, if if your interest in this go find someone near you.

It is. Yeah, I think, at least in my conversations, in my experience, a number of people who are not succeeding with antidepressants feel it’s their fault that they did something wrong, that they’re, it’s, oh, my chemistry doesn’t work and I’m failing at antidepressants. And it’s that’s just not the case that it’s the antidepressants are failing you that that are science that led to the way this was even marketed. The way it’s prescribed, this medicine and his processes failed to you. The fact that if you if you’re still listening to this conversation that you and I are having right now, why hadn’t what’s going on for you? What have you Why have you not heard about ketamine before? The system hasn’t Fair has failed you you haven’t failed? Not possible. So I would just encourage you to ask talk to your doctors talk to if you’re if your doctor doesn’t know about this, go find another doctor who does. And that this might be a way to find a, a new path forward. But certainly not because of anything that that you did wrong or because of the way your body’s made up. This is this is a there’s some challenging science that led to this situation.

Welcome to Let’s Talk Wellness Now, I’m your host, Dr. Deb, this is where we talk about everything wellness, and learn to defy aging, and live our lives on our own terms. Welcome back to Let’s Talk on this show. I’m your host, Dr. Deb, and I want to talk to you about happiness. You know, there’s a lot of craziness that’s going on in the world today. And finding true happiness can be such a challenge for so many of us, let alone maintaining it, as one goes on. And I think we don’t talk enough about happiness and how to embrace it and keep it going. And what is it all taken? And certainly, what does happiness mean? Right? Happy news to one person can mean something completely different to another person, and understanding where happiness comes from and how do we grab onto it? How do we hold on to it? You know, I’ve watched many people over the years of being in practice, who have been chronically ill, because of an unhappy situation that they were living in, or they had growing up as a child, and they weren’t able to release that. And it embeds into our core and cells in who we are. And it can make us sick. And we don’t know that until we can get out of that situation that’s making us unhappy, and then all of a sudden, we become Well, the problem I find with that, though, is, once that happens, it’s so easy to get trapped into that unhappy lifestyle again, or you get into a new relationship, that’s not exactly the way you want it to be. And our body and our minds go back to those old habits and those old ways and, and they just cause us to be sick again, and cause us to struggle. I’ve watched for many years, even my own mother who’s unhappy, reflecting back into her childhood, and how she really didn’t have a childhood. Many, many people of her era, you know, didn’t have the childhood that they would have wanted. I know it was back in an era where you were seen and not heard. Many children were raised as maids and slaves to be honest and be cruel, and talking exactly what it is, you know, they cleaned the house and did the laundry and did the dishes and did the shopping and worked. They didn’t have that playful, wonderful childhood that so many of us have been gifted to have today. And as a result of that, they’re angry as they get older, and they’re resentful, and they’ve missed out on a lot. And they don’t know how to get past that. And I think in having that struggle, and not being able to make peace with that or forgive. For not having that life. It’s it’s hard and it’s painful. And it leads to depression and anxiety and learning how to make peace with those times and learning to forgive for the life that you you have that wasn’t necessarily what you wanted. If so, so important and critical to finding happiness and finding peace and being able to create the life that you want. Today my guest that I’m going to bring to you, Alice Inoue I’m probably saying her name very very wrong. okay. So Alice, I’m so glad to have you here. We were chatting just before we hit the record button about happiness, and the struggle that so many people have today in our world and the craziness of life that goes on. And you are a happiness experts. So I’m so glad to have you here to talk and give us some tips on how do we find happiness? How do we get over happiness? But before we do that, tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got into all of this. Yeah,

it’s interesting because the name of our company is Happiness U and it’s the letter you and I kind of thought it would be cool University where we learn happiness to just you and what is happiness? And it’s such an odd thing. You think that how can you have a business where you’re teaching that But going back to how I got into it, I didn’t. I didn’t grow up happy contrary to what many people think many people think, Oh, you were born happy, happy parents, and you just live this wonderful life and so awesome that you just gave birth to this idea of Happiness U know, when the opposite is true. I I think I know that my path was meant to do this simply because I started out so unhappy. I added that a negative default, like I just remember not smiling in any pictures, grumpy all the time, just feeling like life wasn’t the way I want it to be. I wanted better at different parents, different lifestyles, everything I wanted was not available to me. And as a consequence, I focused so much on the reality that I saw, which is the lack of what I wanted, that I ended up really just developing really, emotional disorders, mental disorders, like just by me and I was 40 pounds heavier, I ate two, two for my happiness. But then that made me more unhappy because I just didn’t like how I felt and look. So it was just this quagmire of just achiness. Until one day, it’s kind of like we have these defining moments where I was in I was 21 years old, I was in a college class Close to close to graduation. And back then we didn’t have text messages. It was an early 80s. And somebody wrote a note. Do you? Are you ever happy? Do you even know what happiness is? And it kind of woke me up to thinking like, No, I don’t know what that I don’t even know, it’s possible to be happy. All I knew was I was crying all the time. I was very sad. And I didn’t like life at all. And that started and this is obviously 40 years ago started the path of questioning happiness. And back then, as you you know, and I’m sure most of the people that listen, we didn’t have tools like we didn’t have it was uncool to see a psychologist like a therapist, and we just didn’t have it was thought of as something weird. Or you have to be into this hitting gongs and this hippie era kind of stuff. So anyway, I was just I sort of pieced it together. And I realized that yeah, hey, I actually have some control over my life. So long story short, as you know, maybe 1015 years ago, all of this, the study on happiness came out on positive psychology and how we could actually change our brains by how we look at things. So that was the magic for me. But I could actually marry all of my own self-learning over the years with his science and basically, come come to the table of life and say, you can like it’s not out there. It’s within you, which is the mystical part, right? So people say like, What do you mean happiness is within? I don’t feel happy inside, how am I going to be happy when I don’t even feel it? So my premise really is that you know, what is happiness? I mean, it’s different for everyone. But the way that I started to define it is that it’s the ability to be present in your life with all the negative and all the icky stuff and all the complexities and be okay with that in your life while you are appreciating and searching for and basically affirming of a good thing. So it’s the balance that We’re looking at, it’s not this feeling of butterflies and rainbows and excitement. It’s really just this knowing that even in spite of all of these things that I have that I don’t want in my life, I have space for myself. And for me to be able to affirm that the balance is where I’m at. And so I think of happiness is just feeling balanced. It’s not like a happy feeling of euphoria. It’s just feeling good. Just feeling okay. Like, I would ask you right now, it or anyone that’s listening, is there? Are there things in your life that you wish did not exist? Absolutely right.

There are so many things, people and situations, but then in the same in the same moment, are there also things in your life that you’re grateful that do exist, friends, and people, and memories and experiences? So that is life at any moment? So the acceptance of it, to me is happiness, like, we tend to resist and say, I want to live a one sided relic, I don’t want this to, I don’t want any of this, I want more of this, how can I get more of this good stuff, get the bad stuff away. But I’m saying no, the bad stuff exists. And that feels the good stuff. So we have to accept the bad stuff. And and there’s ways to accept it. But that’s really the basis of it. Like we live in a world of polarity up and down hot and cold left and right, summer, winter. Nice mean everything, Rarity, so life can’t be any different. So it’s the acceptance of the polarity of life that makes it so amazing. Because you can’t you know what I mean, right? You have a life where there’s nothing challenging, and you wouldn’t even want that kind of a life.

It’d be very boring, wouldn’t it? Or you certainly we don’t want all these challenges all the time. And it’s we’re like running through cement. And it’s a challenge. But I also think, and I’d love to hear your point on this, because I’ve lived a lot of my life like this. And, you know, you get a challenge. And we grow from every challenge, right? That’s how we grow. We don’t grow from the easy stuff we grow from the hard stuff. But we have an opportunity to see the hard stuff as this really horrible thing that’s happening to us. And it only happens to all of us and life sucks and blah, blah, or we have that opportunity to say okay, this is a challenge in front of me, it’s going to be hard. It is going to take some time it I don’t like it, I don’t want it, but it’s there. And how does somebody get from that negativity of like, oh my God, here we go. Again, it’s terrible. And in our mind, we make it out to be more than what it may be really is. And look at that from that positive perspective. Okay, I can grow, I can change, this won’t be so bad. How do we get to that?

I have an instant way to actually do that. So. So first of all, we start with understanding that every thought I think, creates my reality, right? So every thought I thought every everything I think about my judgments my past, when I’ve learned everything I think about it basically creates my reality. And so if I’m thinking about this particular issue, challenge the key parts of my life, and I keep thinking the same thing over and over, I’m going to keep seeing that same reality, another reality exists, you’ll see a different reality, someone else’s see a different one of my situation, but I see it through the lens of my reality. So we start with the understanding that we can absolutely change our reality, the thing itself won’t change, but how you feel about it can change. And if I feel differently about it, I’m going to start to move through it much more effortlessly than if I focus on how hard it is. So the way that I like to do it, and this is just a great stun to stop to kind of like get ourselves into it is. Well, you know what, let me start with a story. I’ll start with story that we’ll end with because it’s really powerful. So if you were to walk into a bank on a random day, a random time to deposit around, which is just a random day you walked in, and you walked in the bank and there was a robber there and there’s all these other people and one shot gets fired and it happens to hit your right arm just happens to hit your radar. Now you’re fine you go to urgent care you get taken care of how do you describe this event? How do your friends like you will have a story to tell we have a story to tell about all of our challenges. So you would have a story to tell and you would either say oh my god, I am so lucky. Eight inches more it would have hit my it could be dead or it could be brain dead. Hey god, I’m so lucky. Or you could say of all the days of all the times of all the places of all the people why was I the one getting shot. I shouldn’t have gone to the bank in any of you and if we go blender with you told me to go to their fingers when you told me to go to the bank and now look what happened is the two ways that we will look at a situation as either lucky or unlucky. So now I invite you to look at a situation in your life right now, you might be going through a lawsuit, you might be going through a divorce, you might be going through just like a darkness in your life, right? So you take that situation and you create a story about how you are lucky. Now, you would say, and you would say something like,

Oh, I’ll give you a real example. The first time I use this sentence in a session, a gentleman told me that every Sunday he had to go to his in laws house and have dinner and they, they just treated him so poorly. And that he just felt so he hated it. And everything else was fine. But he hated it. It was it was just Sunday, then he started getting dreading it on Saturday, and then Friday, and then all of a sudden, his whole week was about these two hours, where he just felt bullied and felt not good. So I said, let’s create a better story about going to your in laws. And it’s called a counter fact. And I said, let’s create a counter fac, how could it be worse? He says, Oh, it can’t be worse. It’s just bad. You know, let’s specifically how could it be worse? And then so he couldn’t think of one so it’s a close your eyes. And imagine how you feel on Sunday night when the in laws are making you feel bad? You feel it? Yeah, you felt it instead. Now just imagine if they moved in with you. Just imagine if they moved in with you. And that broke it. He’s like, Oh, my gosh, oh, my gosh, I said morning, noon, and light. They’re like judging you silently making comments. And then now now, after that vision, you realize, oh, it’s only two hours that actually snapped him right out of it. So this is not my theory, this is like a Harvard thing. They did this study to say that if you want to change the reality of a situation that you are not happy with, all you need to do is imagine and this is the key, specifically, how it could be worse. Specifically, you can’t just say, Oh, it could always be worse, be grateful for what you have that does nothing to change your perception or your reality. You have to say, how could it be specific Luer? My friend ran away with $2,000 or never paid me back? Well, how would it feel if it was $4,000? How would it feel if it was three friends? And so yes, to your point of finding the gift and the in the positive in it, but we first have to feel we have to see the reality that it’s not as bad as we think it is. That makes sense. It’s our full thing. We do counter facts at happiness shoe all the time. And it’s not like, and it’s it’s not like, like, it’s facetiously like, oh, it can always be worse. It’s like, seriously, how could it be worse, and if you sit in that, that how it could be worse reality. In your mind, you will feel like you’re you’re out of it. It’s almost like if you fall in a 20 foot hole, and you look up and you’re like, there’s no way I can get out. But if you if you kind of made yourself up to get to 10 feet, you feel like you make progress. So that’s what it is. So as we create a negative scenario or reality, so that we can see where we’re at and have a little more gratitude for it. Because everything in our life could be much, much worse. If we’re never at the bottom, it could be so much. But the key is specific. That’s it, you can’t just say, oh, yeah, I know, I know. It could be worse, you have to sit with it and say specifically, how can it be worse? So that’s the answer to your question.

That sounds so simple, right? I mean, just look at what could be worse. And I know there’s people listening, they’re gonna be like, I can’t do that. All this happened to me when I was a child. So how do I think about how could be worse when it’s already over? And I can’t change what happened when I was a child. Before we were on, I shared a story about my own mom, you know, my mom was raised at a time where children should have been seen and not heard, right. And they were more like slaves than children. And she’ll oftentimes even today she’ll say, you know, I really didn’t have a childhood, I had to do all the cooking all the cleaning all the grocery shopping, my brother got away with everything. He didn’t have to do anything. And she really lives in that time still inheritance and carries that with her. How do we move from stories from childhood like that? Even?

So then you say like, okay, so how did me doing all the cooking, cleaning, taking all that responsibility? How did I benefit? What did I gain? I went through a lot of pain, there’s no pain without gain, but we look for the pain, the pain becomes our story, we have to look for the gain. So what did we gain? Did she gain compassion? Did she gain skills, did she and she would say, oh, that’s unimportant. That doesn’t matter. I didn’t get what I really wanted was that. So this is where this is where we talk about life is the presidency. And only she and only you only I can dig ourselves out of our own stories like only we can. So at some point, it’s hopeless, if she won’t if she or anyone won’t really look at it, because they’ll just just discount it. But if you’re listening and you’re saying yeah, I really want to escape this this might the story of crude about the past. It’s simply a story. Now what if we could create a story with instead of that first reality that’s true for her? True there’s another truthful reality videos She learned from it, she might have used it as an excuse to not do other things, she might have been happy that she is always there, there’s a there is always a gain from the pain. And if we ask ourselves that question, you’ll get to see it. I have a perfect like, I grew up abused by a father, emotionally, mentally, you name it, all of that. And I have a story for a long time. I never got to be a child, I had to raise my two kids, my two brother and sister, I had to do everything I couldn’t go out with my friends, I completely remember. And that was part of my story. When I started talking of my unhappiness, I felt like I never got to do anything I wanted to do. And I had to do everything. So I get that. And this is how I got through it is to look back and say, What did I gain from that? You know, what I gained? What are the big gain? I did, I chose not to have children because I my brother and sister were such a pain if I if I had a kid I would never have happiness, you I would never be doing all the things I do. So that actually was a game in my life. Because I gave me space to do things that I choose to do versus that so I gained so much from it, but I had to look at it. So that’s that’s part of it. Because you relieved you realize that everything is to in divine order. Everything happens exactly the way it needs do to get you to where you need to be today. There are no mistakes in life you shouldn’t have been your shouldn’t be farther along. You’re not too behind. You’re exactly where you are, your life brought you to this point. So let’s look at your life and say what did I get from this point? I didn’t get here for no reason. I had this you any all of us have our stories, we have all these regrets. We have these things that we didn’t like, but what what can we gain from that. And if you still have life to live, you’re still alive, you’re still living doesn’t make sense to just say, I never had that. So now I can’t move on with my life. So you are the creator of your life, we are in power, we can look to the past to see where we can gain in the present. And it’s simply allowing ourselves to let our ego go take away the blame of my parents or my society or my culture and just say, What can I do now here today, we can actually wipe the slate clean, if we if we choose to move forward. But we are really stuck in the past and how we move forward is to reconcile the past. And this is how we do it by looking at the past and saying from all this pain, what have I gained? Yeah, all this pain. And then you actually can say, if you have general gains, you have specific gains. And the more you can see how there’s been no mistakes, the more you can live Presently, we get we get trapped in the past a lot. And we see it with older people or my mother included.

Yeah, it’s so hard when we’re trapped in that past because so much illness comes from it not just mental illness, but physical illness. I see this all the time. And it’s not until somebody gets out of a bad situation. And they start to work through it that their physical ailments and their mental ailments start to get better. But boy, if we, if we could have this tool while we’re there and make that process easier, a sometimes I think people would get out faster because they would see it. But be if they can’t get out, at least they’re not trapped in that negative place so much that it’s hurting every cell of their being and making them physically sick.

It’s so so people don’t realize like we have trillions of cells, everything we think your cells are the cellular consciousness of our cells are hearing it and feeling it and if you’re just thinking it and emoting it, your cells are feeling it and then of course dis ease, will will come up. I mean, some people say, Oh, it’s not connected, but how can it not if I told you to imagine what it tastes like to suck a lemon and drink sour lemonade, you’re going to salivate our bodies respond to everything we think about? So yes, I’m absolutely on board with that. And I, I can I can say from a personal experience. I’m two years away from 60 right now. And I have not had a cold take any medication for like 12 1314 years now. I haven’t even gotten sick. So it is it’s your mind, your health of your thoughts and your emotions that really propagate through your because your body shows whenever you’re unhappy in here, your body will it’ll show up in your shopping.

It shows up everywhere. And it’s it’s so easy for other people to see. It’s so much harder for us to see. So do you have some tips on how people can get to know themselves better so that they can recognize the things that other people see on the outside?

Alice Inoue 24:47
Yeah, I think it’s, I think it’s that intention of awareness. So I think that everything starts with an awareness. So if anyone is even listening to us to this point, then there’s probably an interest so if you’re Yeah, I kind of want to If I do want to get on that path, I want to start where do I even start to see these things? First we’re aware, then we say, Okay, what is our intention? My intention is to be aware. So you basically talk to yourself, it’s kind of sounds crazy, we talk to yourself and you say, you know, the next time I am going onto an old story, can you please let me know because we have wise sides of ourselves, but we’ve never listened to our inner self. We just listened to our everything is outer. So it’s just the awareness and the intention. And and you’ll catch yourself, if you ask yourself to show yourself and you are aware, you will catch yourself saying things. Like if I say if I remember when Tim used to say I’m never late, I’m just I’m never late. I’m never late at night. I believe that I was never late, but the evidence shows that I was always late. And so I actually asked that question to myself, I want it to be aware of my blindsides. We all have them no matter how elevated or you are. And I wanted to be aware, and I remember asking it, and I thought it was perfect until until I said to somebody like Yeah, yeah, no, I’m never late. And then as I was saying, Oh, my there’s a part of me that says, haha, really. And then I realized, like, I used to never be late, but now I am. I’m busier. So that’s just that was. And that’s all it takes. So we say how can we become more aware? Let’s call it listening to ourselves. And people say, Well, how do you listen to yourself? That sounds weird. I listened to others. How do you listen to yourself? I want to kind of, like invite you or anybody to just start by closing your eyes for one minute. Even if you’re thinking about 5 million things, just close your eyes for one minute. Because if you’ve never sat down in presence with yourself, you actually don’t know who you are what you want. You’re never gonna become good friends. And we met we felt a connection. I would be like, Let’s have coffee, you know, let’s have tea talk. Tell me what do you like? What colors you like? What are you interested in? What do you like to talk about, I would have interest in you. And then if I wanted to further our relationship, I would, you know, get things for you that’s in line with what you like. But we we don’t we we might have had dreams, hopes and wishes of the Child Life crashed in on us all this crazy stuff happened, we got caught up in life. So now your self has been speaking this whole time. If you’re not listening, it shows up in emotional mental disorders, physical body. So if you are not happy number one, or no, you’re not happy or not feeling like, induced by life, and you’re having a bunch of physical ailments and stuff, then this is a great practice. It’s simply your inner being say, Hey, I’m still here. Because if you’re living inspired by your Spirit, in other words, you’re you’re listening to yourself, and you’re recognizing and you’re working on yourself, you will get answers. And you will have the ability to create a different reality. We just have created so many stories about our life and about ourselves that aren’t true. And living in authentically is one key to not being happy.

I think that’s so true. It’s so hard to be quiet, because we’re scared of where our minds go sometimes. You know, sometimes they go to those dark places that we don’t want to go. So if we stay busy, our mind doesn’t go there. So when we invite people to be quiet, how do we not go to those dark places, if somebody’s always going there?

Alice Inoue 28:14
So I think then it’s like, okay, we take a moment of quietness, and all of a sudden, it’s like, oh, my life is horrible and better, it’s just gonna get worse and worse. I’m doing it’s over. Yeah, then you let that go. But you’re still with that intention. I will say physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, we bring ourselves to sit with intention for a minute just to close your eyes in the morning when you wake up doesn’t matter. So now the next thing we deal with thoughts, your thoughts will always lie to you. They’re always they’re there to protect you. But they’re always going to put you into fear. But they lie all the time. So don’t believe everything. yourself. It’s almost like if you keep lying to me, I’m going to be like, Hey, Dr. Ted like, no. Is that really true? Is your is your your child always yelling? 24 hours a day? No, they out yield an hour a day. So we have to catch ourselves. And so you have to ask yourself, is that true? Is that true? Is that just a story? So that occupies your mind for a bit. But I just I think the most important thing is people say, I feel horrible. I feel jealous, I feel angry, I feel whatever. And then other people say, Oh, you shouldn’t feel that way. You shouldn’t feel shy you shouldn’t. But how you feel is how you feel like, how you feel how you feel. If you want to change how you feel, you have to start thinking differently. It’s the thoughts that you can change because the thoughts eventually filter down into your emotion. So it’s the thoughts and so that’s why we sit for a minute to set your mind races. That’s fine. And then you ask yourself, well, what if my mind racing about I’ll never get anything done? Okay, is that true? Is it true that you will never get anything done? Did you do something this morning? Do you almost have to almost like, catch yourself like we just are lazy our thoughts go we let our thoughts go and then we feel horrible and we think our life is horrible. But we start with our thoughts and knowing that our thoughts change your reality. So the more awareness you put on the thought that you’re thinking and catching yourself if they’re true or not, and trying to see is it possible that there’s another reality to this, just that kind of thing, write it out. If it’s easier, then you do it consistently, your brain will know, I can’t just keep thinking these thoughts because she’s going to catch me on it. And that’s how we start to balance. That’s how we start to come back to center. That’s how we start to embrace more of what is that’s to me. That’s the number one thing like my unhappiness is caused by how I think if I keep thinking a certain thing about a certain person, I’m going to start thinking that person is like, horrible. But if I think well, you know what, he’s also nice to his daughter. Oh, you know what, he also does good stuff for the community. Oh, you know, and I started looking for the good, he’s both bad and good. And that’s how we are we vote, there’s two sides to everything, there’s a million different realities of any given moment of any situation, if we allow ourselves to drop our ego a little bit sit with ourselves and kind of say like, is that thought true? That’s the first that’s one. And then the other thing is when you take time for yourself, even just sitting for a minute, that’s like, building a relationship, you don’t build relationships with people by not communicating with them, not listening. And so that’s kind of my thing. I love that

because I think it’s so easy for us to just stay in that negative space. And I’ve done this for a long time, I learned this in the Mind Valley program, and learning to speak and learning to say your truth. And it’s so hard for us sometimes to speak. And it was an exercise where you look in the mirror at yourself, and you have to say five things that you like about yourself every single day. And I’ll tell you, it’s really hard when you first start doing it, you maybe can do it when you’re not looking directly at yourself. And you’re looking right in the eyes of the mirror looking right at yourself and saying those things. And sometimes, I mean, you can’t come up with things, right. There’s days where you’re just like, I don’t like myself at all, I can’t come up with it. But as you start to do it, you really start to put that power in that truth back into yourself. So all those negative things you’ve heard people say about you, or you’ve said about yourself over the years that you think somebody says about you become on truth because they truly are untruthful, just a story. And so you can start doing that every single day. And it’s it, it’s hard in the beginning, it’s easier towards the end. But if you do it every day for 30 days, it’s amazing how you feel at the end of that 30 days about yourself.

Alice Inoue 32:31
You know, that’s such a good point. Another note, I do so many things. And I love everything to do with a physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, anything and I just love it all. But the one thing that happened over the pandemic was my clientele. I might have started my business when I was in my 30s and 40s. And now I’m in you know, 50s and 60s, My people are like 60s 70s and 80s sometimes, and I started this youth of phi class and it was just a way to just to have certain thoughts, right and to do things like what you said to bring some consciousness and mindfulness to what we’re doing what we’re thinking. And I always we always joke because nobody looks in the mirror in the morning, go, Oh my God, you look so great. I love that lip. So we look in the mirror like oh my god, another bag, another wrinkle. And I like Oh, my gray hair. So. So I got into a face show, but it’s just a it’s just a way to exercise your face. And I have a little face club. But the reason I tell you is because when you consciously exercise and work on your face, then when you look in the mirror, you’re looking for improvement, because every time you look in the mirror and you say something not positive about yourself, you’re really breaking down yourself, right? It’s just, it’s just, it’s like, I don’t do that to you. But we do that to ourselves, right? So anyway, so we what I noticed is you’re inputting positive energy. So now you start to accept your face. Yes, there’s good things about it. But there’s also not so good things about it versus mold bad. Yeah, especially as we get older. There’s just this thing about how we show up.

Yeah, it’s it’s so easy to just be so hard on ourselves. And we most of the time, would never say those things to somebody else out loud. We might think that but we would never say them. But we think them to ourselves 10,000 times a day, you know, I don’t like this. I don’t like that, oh, my hair looks terrible. Oh, I’ve got this wrinkle. Oh, I’ve got this, you know, my boobs are too big. My son was too fat. My butt’s too small. You know, there’s just so many things. And I love the stories because if we tell ourselves those other stories, oh my gosh, we’re just giving ourselves grace.

Alice Inoue 34:32
It changes. So this is what I suggest you write down on you just write down in your journal, if you journal just a paragraph of of a situation that you’re not happy with. Right? Then you ask yourself, What’s another way to look at it? What’s another reality with another male? And then once you did that, you know say what’s another reality because so you start uncovering the things that aren’t seeing because the negative is three times stronger, it’ll always rise to the top, but we have to kind of peel away and ask the deeper as the deeper because there’s always another reality. I remember doing this with, I was really stressed out when I first opened my business it wasn’t it didn’t do as well as I had thought I thought I’d open the business and people would flock in and I just thought we would have this great happy University where all these people would be taking classes and, and it just nobody knew what it was like what happy school so there’s all this resistance. Meanwhile, I’m paying rent and overhead and salaries, right? So I was in the state of oh my god, I own a company called happiness shoe. I can’t like oh my gosh, I just didn’t know how to get through this kind of stress. And it was really, I’d never been in that type of financial stretch. Before I hadn’t. I was so uncomfortable. And so I did this, I learned this exercise. And I did it was fantastic. What was my problem? Not enough money. I’m having to do this, that this all my challenges of financial, what’s another story? Couldn’t think of what’s another story? What’s the other story was how I didn’t know that people were willing to help me. I mean, so many people came out of the woodwork to help me, I developed so much creativity on how to network and social media create so that we could do I met new people. Like, because of my challenging situation, there was an underlying amazing thing that I wasn’t giving value to that was helping me. And then when I wrote again, what’s another reality? It was like, hey, at least I’m living my dream, you know, at least I got my dream out in real life, versus someday I want to open a Happiness University someday, right? So there’s all these levels that are that go almost go dormant, if we’re only focusing on the negative. So you write a story and ask yourself, What’s another reality? What’s another reality? And you can actually keep going? Because there’s so many realities that we don’t see, we just focus on the one that makes us feel the worst?

Debra Muth 36:47
It is, isn’t it? We want to focus on what makes us feel the worst, but yet, we want everything to be positive and wonderful. And we want more of that.

Alice Inoue 36:56
It just so this is so the silly. Let’s tell people right now, think of the most challenging thing in your life right now. We all have something that you it’s something the in laws, the money, the the whatever schedule, the most challenging thing right now. Okay, now, think of one of the most positive things in your life right now, people come up with dogs and grandchildren. And that’s about it. Nobody says like husbands. Anyway, the most positive thing you have right now, okay, if the world is a polarity, there is positive and negative and everything I can get rid of this big problem for you, are you willing to get rid of this great joy, because you’re always going to have a series of opposites. But because the negative is does draw our attention three times stronger, it has to because we need to protect ourselves, then the positive goes dormant. And so that’s why we have to keep looking, and looking and looking. And that’s the balance. So you almost have to find three units of positivity for every unit of negativity that you perceive is happening to you in order to feel balanced. And once you develop this, catch your thought, ask yourself if it’s true, right, and then just see what else is going on that is good. That’s how we build strength, you can’t expect to like take a dumbbell and curl like 100 pounds unless you work it up from 10, wanting 30. So it’s that same thing, mindset is the muscle. And it’s it’s we’re just living in a world where everything’s so instant, that you just want happiness. Now just give it to me now. But you can this is something cultivated, this is part of being human, I will say the purpose of life is not for happiness, the purpose of life is so that we can grow. And if you understand and except that the purpose of life is for us to grow, then you recognize that we grow on the edge of challenge and support. Support is always there for always focusing on focusing on the challenges, we won’t even see the support. So our job is to change the story. And looking for more of this specific support that we get from every level of our challenge. It’s hard work. But once you do the work, and you’re stronger, it becomes natural. It’s like a habit.

Debra Muth 39:03
No, I love that. I can still relate to that right now in my practice, we’re bringing a ton of new things in and it’s really exciting. But it’s also very challenging. And one of my girls and I were having conversation about this the other day, and we said, oh my gosh, we feel so stupid right now, because this is all new. We’ve never done this before. It’s new. It’s challenging. And we’re excited about it. But we’re also feeling so insecure about not knowing everything about it. And we know at moments we’re sitting there going, Oh my God, why did we do this? We were so dumb. This was so stupid. We’re never going to learn this right? And then the other moments were like, Oh my gosh, we get to do this. And it’s so much fun. And it’s so exciting. And it’s so uplifting, and it’s like at every moment, it’s a polar opposite at any given part of the day. It’s like thank goodness we have this lift up here to say this is fun, and it’s exciting and it’s new. And I love learning Get, and then you’ve got the down moment. And then we say, okay, but do we remember when we started with this service, and we felt exactly the same way, seven years ago with this service. And now we do this in our sleep, and we don’t even think about it. A couple of years from now, we’re going to be the same way over here with this new thing. And then we’re going to be like we did now we were bored. That’s why we brought a new thing. And we were bored, we needed a challenge. And it’s like, it’s just so right there. It’s really interesting to be able to pull that out as you’re sharing this with us.

Alice Inoue 40:30
Yeah, exactly. So I always say this, you’re in hell, struggling to reach heaven, the moment you reach heaven, another level of hell comes to greet you. And that is exactly life. And if we get life, then we can appreciate the good moments, and recognize the challenges are there so that we can grow? That is the purpose of life. People say, I just want to be happy. I just want to be happy. And that’s just like, yeah, who doesn’t? But how do you get there? It’s it’s by how you are looking at and if life is our learning ground, if life is our school, then I actually want to call it happiness you The School of Life, but everyone’s like, nobody would go school of life. Life is hard. I’m, like, Y’all know, like, like, you know, the school I just wanted, like, life is gonna bring you these things. And how do we how we look at them will make all the difference in how we transcend them. If you and I have are going to do the exact same thing. And you and I have the exact same tools, exact same physical body strength, everything is exactly the same. And we both have to go climb a mountain, let’s say an obstacle. The way we think will make all the difference if I’m thinking, oh my god, that’s so big mountain. So huge. Oh my god, I’m so scrawny, I don’t have the skills that I will have a hard time getting up that mountain. But if you’re like, you know what I prepared for this, I’m as strong as I can be. I climb that other mountain before and I it was hard, but I need it. I think I can do this, and you have that mindset, you’re gonna get to the top and feel exhilarated, I’ll get some fuel exhausted. So how we look at things makes all the difference. The stories we tell ourselves, the focus that we have the thoughts, we believe, it’s a big mess to manage. But if you don’t manage it, guess what your life is the way you are the one that fuels your life, and you’re the one that will feel all the effects of your faulty thinking. So I get it. And it’s not that easy. We make it sound easy. But we start somewhere you start somewhere and you keep doing it. You don’t just give up on yourself. That’s to me. That’s the secret. Like, how do you be? How do you be happy you work on yourself. And it takes time, and it might take your whole life. But we get to increments we just want to in that those successes, if you look, where are you better now, like you said in your practice, like some of the things, you know that you’re gonna look back and say, thank goodness, we struggled through it. And that’s the joy.

They need their tribe of people that understand that this is what they want. And this is what they’re working towards. Because there are going to be people in our lives that are going to look at us, like, why are you doing that. And you want to surround yourself with like minded people to support you and grow and to just be there for you and make new friends and learn new things. And so that is awesome. Welcome to Let’s Talk Wellness Now, I’m your host, Dr. Deb. This is where we talk about everything wellness, and learn to defy aging and live our lives on our own terms. Welcome back to Let’s Talk Wellness Now I’m your host, Dr. Deb. And today we’re going to talk about essential medicines that come from flowering plants. Did you know that 11% of the WHO List of 252 essential medicines were from flowering plants, professor, Dr. City, and I’m going to not say this name properly Vera Sham, wrote in a 2012 paper nature, the master craftsman created almost an index array of molecular entities. It is an infinite resource for drug development, novel chemo types and pharmacophores that can create efficacious drugs for many diseases and other bio active agents. I think this is really interesting, because you know, we’ve been talking about plant based medicines for 1000s of years. In the alternative world, we use a lot of plants to treat different conditions. And we now finally have somebody saying, look, the majority of our plants have come or the the majority of medicines have come from plants for a very long time. And they’re very useful. And they’re admitting that these things have power, and they can actually do things. Now unfortunately, they will say that they need to be manipulated in order to be effective, but that’s not the case. So let’s go on and talk a little bit more about this study that was produced. Dr. O’Meara spent most of his career scouring nature for useful molecules. ivermectin was just one of the many drugs he actually discovered. It was used to treat river blindness, elephantitis, and flavor viruses along with tick borne encephalitis, dengue fever, a lot of different things. Now, I’ve been treating tick borne diseases. for about 18 years now. ivermectin has been one of the medications that we have used for a very long time in treating tick borne illnesses, using it very safely, very effectively, with very minimal complications from it. So this is really interesting to read some of his research as it’s come out. It’s also been demonstrated to be a broad spectrum inhibitor against several RNA viruses by blocking viral proteins. It’s also been shown to have a potent antiviral action against HIV one. Yes, honestly, HIV, this is not in the mainstream. Now, this is a study that goes back to 2012. And we can assume that he is known about this much longer than that. And I remember many years ago, and you’ve those of you who listen to me, you’ve heard me say this before. There’s many things that we’ve used that we didn’t understand were antiviral until the whole COVID flare up. And now we’re starting to realize that a lot of the drugs that we thought were antibacterial or anti parasitical, actually have antiviral properties to them. And that’s why when we treat patients with ivermectin and doxycycline, and is that through myosin and some of these other meds for different conditions, they don’t get typical flu viruses or they don’t get typical colds because they have that antiviral component to them.

So ivermectin is very inexpensive and with a top safety profile obtained from ready for this one guys. 250 million doses given annually for decades, yes, 250 million doses, given annually for decades. And this is why Monash decided to investigate it for the possibility against COVID. And until recently, plants were an important source of novel pharmacological activity, compounds with many blockbuster drugs, being derived directly or indirectly from plants. And despite the current preoccupation with synthetic chemistry as a vehicle to discover and manufacture drugs, the contribution of plants to disease treatment and prevention is still enormous. Even at the dawn of the 21st century. 11% of the 252 essential drugs on the WH o database come from plants. This is a really big because when we talk about plants being our medicine or food being medicine, this is actually true in the conventional world, it’s just that the majority of the practitioners prescribing these drugs do not realize that they came from plant sources to begin with. It’s just very simple that way. Now, up to 50% of the approved drugs during the last 30 years are from either directly or indirectly from natural products and in an area of cancer over the timeframe from about the 1940s to date of the 175 small molecules 85 actually being either natural products or directly derived from a natural plant or product. You know, the history of plant medicine has been available to us for 1000s of years. The plant derived compounds have a long history of clinical use, better patient tolerance and acceptance. And to date 35,000 to 70,000 different plant species have been screened for medicinal use. This is a lot of plants, and a lot of plants that could turn into potential drugs down the road. Now we want to remember that a natural substance cannot be patented. So if it cannot be patented, how do we get it to be a drug? Well, let’s talk about that a little bit. So there’s a study thumb from fabricant and Farnsworth from 2001. And they reported that 80% of 122, plant derived drugs were related to their original ethnopharmacological purposes. And current practices for creating medicines for plants work by isolating a specific molecule. This is how they’re allowed to patent it, they can isolate a particular molecule inside the plant, extract that out and say, This is the active ingredient, this is what’s actually working. Now, we all know

that that’s not true. When you have a plant, a plant comes with a lot of different properties, and a lot of different chemical compounds. They were derived in nature to work a very specific way, when you manipulate that, and you remove one active compound from it and say, here’s the saving grace, here’s the here’s the ingredient that works, but the rest of the plant doesn’t really matter. God doesn’t work that way, right, he creates everything for a reason. And so that’s why when we extract things out, we can have more side effects, we can have more complications, we can have new diseases occur, because we thought we were smarter than God, and that plant has a complete compound in itself intact. But when we manipulate that it’s no longer intact. Many of our cancer drugs have been derived from plant based substances using this very specific process. Now, the first pure, commercially made drug from plants now pure meaning in its whole form, nothing manipulated, was actually morphine. And that was created back in 1826. The next semi synthetic drug was produced by bear and that was aspirin in 1899. And we say it’s a semi synthetic drug because it’s not completely taken from its whole, it’s been manipulated. Now, these drugs actually lead to other compounds from nature being isolated and created into early drugs such as cocaine, codeine, digitoxin, quinine, and pilocarpine. And which some are still in use today. And several other recent plant derived chemicals or compounds have undergone development and have been marketed as drugs, which include perhaps the tussle and taxes for lung and ovarian as well as breast cancer Artemesia, which is from a traditional Chinese plant Artemi Xion or Artemesia, you’ll call them two different things are used to combat multi drug resistant malaria, and you can buy artemisia or Artemisian as a whole plant instead of taking it as a commercially available drug. silymarin, which is also known as known as milk thistle in our world was extracted from the seeds of Silybum and for the treatment of liver diseases, so we will often use milk thistle or silly margarine to help clear toxins from the liver to help get rid of excess hormones from the liver. If somebody’s liver is struggling to clear toxins, we will give them silymarin or milk thistle as well. You can also use this to help you sleep. A lot of times when people wake in the middle of the night between one and three o’clock, it’s because their liver is dumping toxins. And when it does that, it can struggle sometimes. And so if you take silymarin or milk thistle at night before you go to bed, because you have this condition of sleep, it can help your liver process things better. Now, you want to be really careful taking milk thistle or silymarin, because if you’re using other medications or other products that are processing through the liver, you don’t want them to be processed through the liver too quickly because you won’t get the full benefit of them. So make sure you’re working with a knowledgeable practitioner, before you take these products and make sure you’re taking them away from medications or other supplements that you need to take so you have the full benefit and safety profile from them. Now there’s growing evidence that shows old molecules are finding new applications as well through better understanding of molecular biology and clinical observation, for instance, that alkaloids and forskolin, from coleus, and other phytochemicals from Stephania, are now being rediscovered to use as nitric oxide activators which can help in preventing conditions including things like obesity, arterial sclerosis, so heart disease, and actually hypertension these can be used in as well.

Galantamine is a natural alkaloid and this has been used for Alzheimer’s disease morphine is a semi synthetic compound derived from morphine, and this is used in Parkinson’s disease. We know that atropine is from a tropa Bella Donna used for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease COPD. And Bella Donna is often looked at as a homeopathic remedy. There’s also different cannabidiol cannabinoids that are obtained from cannabis plants, especially the sativas. And the capsaicin, and their active compounds from cascate bone are used as pain relievers as well either as oral or as topicals. These are just a few examples of drugs that have been created by nature over the last several decades.

We know natural products discovered so far have played a vital role in improving health, and have been the drugs of choice despite facing tough competition from compounds derived from different chemical backgrounds. And due to their safety and efficacy. Most of the striking features of natural products in connection for their long lasting importance of drug discovery is revitalization of natural products, bringing newer challenges with respect to quality control standardization, along with cost effectiveness. This is true for finding high quality supplements as well. Finding high quality pure products has been a real challenge in our industry, because there’s a lot of knock offs, there’s a lot of people trying to make a lot of money out of selling something that maybe isn’t actually what you’re getting in your bottle, you need to work with manufacturers of supplements that actually test their products for quality. They test their raw materials, we only recommend companies that goes through rigorous testing, not just testing their raw materials at the top of their bin, the middle of the bin and their bottom of their bin. But they test all of the bins, not just one, because they know that manufacturers or I shouldn’t say manufacturers, it’s actually the people who supply the manufacturer with a product. But there are some that are not very, how would I say legitimate or on the up and up to be nice. And so they know you’re going to test a barrel, and they’re going to bring one barrel to you say here are tested. And some companies will only test the top of the barrel. And so they’ll put their best ingredients at the top of the barrel, they’ll put their lower qualities at the bottom of the barrel. And they may not even put any high quality product in any of your other barrels because they don’t think you’re going to test those. So we only work with companies that test every single barrel of their raw materials. And not only are they testing it for, for it to say it is what it is right that it’s if you’re buying akinesia it’s akinesia throughout the whole barrel, but they’re also then testing it for heavy metals and chemicals and other contaminants so that they know that the product that they’re producing, and they’re providing to the public is safe and it is what it is. So if it says it’s akinesia it is akinesia and if it says it’s akinesia route, it is eCognition route, not the plant or not the stem are not the flower. That’s all really important because different parts of the plants do different things and they perform differently. So using a part of a root for one condition, we may use the stem or the flower for a completely different condition. And that may be why you’re using some products and not finding that you’re getting the results that you want, it could potentially be that what you’re actually using isn’t actually what you think it is. Having an understanding of which plant to use is vital to the treatment of disease and accessing really high quality plants and good manufacture and storage is critical. There are companies, unfortunately, that will sell products beyond the expiry date, oftentimes, you’ll find this on Amazon, Amazon will allow people to sell things and when you get it, it’s not what you thought it was. And B it may be expired, or it’s very close to the expiry date, that can be a big problem. We’ve had patients that have bought product from us and then bought what they thought was the exact same product on Amazon, only to get it and bring them in and have them say this doesn’t smell the same, it doesn’t taste the same, it doesn’t look the same, the bottle is the same, the labeling is the same, but the product inside of it is different. And they’re looking for a place where they could test it to say is this truly what it is. And the only way you could do that is send it back to the company that’s manufacturing it and ask them to test it and let them know where you purchased it from. But most very high end quality, what we call nutraceutical grade companies. So that’s the equivalent of a pharmaceutical company. They do not allow their products to be sold on Amazon. And they will look for those people who are selling on Amazon and they will eliminate them. They only allow products to be sold on very specific websites, like full script or whole scripts, something like that. But they do not allow the sale on Amazon itself. I think understanding this plant based medicine is critical to the outcomes of any disease that you’re trying to treat. So it’s important to work with someone who understands plant based medicine. Now I want to take a look at the top nine, or the most popular nine herbs and some of their safety statuses. Because these are the ones that people use the most in alternative medicine and it’s probably the the ones that you guys are most familiar with using. And we’re going to talk a little bit about what they are, how they’re used, what are some of the side effects and some safety that you need to be concerned about with some of these products. So the first herb is eficacia most of us all know Echinacea. It comes from the Purple coneflower. So if you’ve ever seen purple coneflowers flowering, and if you have some of them in your yard, that’s actually akinesia that’s where it comes from. It is a very popular herbal remedy. It’s originally from North America, and it’s been used in Native American practices to treat wounds, burns, toothaches, sore throats upset stomachs, it can treat a lot of different things. The one thing about good akinesia is it should make your mouth tingle. So if you’re using a liquid, when you take it, it should cause a little bit of a tingling sensation in the mouth. If it doesn’t, then you don’t have a good quality Echinacea or you don’t have the right form of Echinacea.

Most parts of this particular plant including the leaves, the petals and the roots can be used medicinally although each one is used differently for different ailments. Echinacea can also be taken as a tea or as a capsule. And you could also make a salve out of it and apply it topically like an antibiotic ointment and you can make an antibacterial salve out of akinesia. Today, its most common use is for the common cold. And the science behind this is very, very good. It’s used primarily for infection. It can be used to treat other infections like Lyme disease or strep throat, things like that. But the common cold is probably the biggest one that it’s known for. One review shows over 4000 people found a potential reduction from colds and flus by anywhere between 10 and 20%. So this is really good evidence that it’s good. Now there’s a lot of controversy out there with akinesia about whether or not it can be used long term and should it only be used short term. Well, that myth of only being used short term has been debunked many many years ago. I would say it was debunked well over 20 years ago but we’re still in carrying that stigma around with Echinacea and Echinacea is okay to use long term. Most people will use it short term for a cold or flu. They’ll use it for seven to 10 days, and then they’re done. Although Echinacea can be used long term, it is very potent and then very powerful. I like to save it for acute use unless somebody’s really, really sick and we’re treating something like Lyme disease or pan’s pandas, which is a chronic strep infection, things like that, then I’ll use it long term, but otherwise, I like to use it short term. And as a preventative, I’d rather use something like Astragalus and Astragalus we’ve used for a very long time in my practice well over 25 years for teachers, because they’re exposed to so many viruses, we will give that to them to use as a preventative in the school so that they don’t get quite so many colds and flus. Ginseng is probably one of my favorite herbs. It is a medicinal plant that we usually use the root and it’s steeped as a tea or it can be dried and made into a powder. It’s a very traditional Chinese medicine used to reduce inflammation, increase immunity, help with cognitive function and increasing your energy levels. There are several different varieties of ginseng. There’s the Asian form and the American form. There’s Panax ginseng, Panax. I never say this word right quinquefolius, respectively, american ginseng, so it’s thought to cultivate a relaxation while Asian ginseng is considered to be stimulating. So if you take Asian ginseng and you get too much of a lift of energy, or you get kind of that nervous energy, then I would look to use more of the American Ginseng because it’s just a little bit more calming, a little bit more soothing. Now, if you drive in the Midwest, here in Wisconsin, there are a lot of ginseng farms where people are growing ginseng. And it’s a very popular thing because ginseng is we’re losing a lot of it right? A lot is being used, but it takes a very long time to cultivate good ginseng, it can take upwards of 10 years to create a route from ginseng that’s actually usable in the medicinal world. So when you’re buying good ginseng, it’s going to be expensive. And that’s why it’s expensive is because it takes so long to repopulate. It’s not something we can plant year after year after year and get a harvest we have to wait 10 years after you plant a seed to get a harvest out of it. Now ginseng has been used for centuries. Modern research does support its efficacy. It’s considered an herbal remedy frequently used by the trained traditional Chinese medicine which we’ve talked about, but it does also have blood thinning properties to it. So you need to be cautious with this if you’re using other blood thinners or if you are going to have surgery. You want to stop this about a week to 10 days prior to surgery. So you don’t have too much bleeding post surgical procedure. That’s a really important thing to know with ginseng. Number three is ginkgo biloba. Gingko biloba also known as kinkel. It’s an herbal medicine derived from the maidenhair tree. It’s native to China. gingko has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for 1000s of years and remains a top selling herbal supplement today. It contains a variety of very strong antioxidants and are thought to provide several benefits. If you notice a lot of our top herbs come from traditional Chinese medicine. And so there’s a lot of people that are like I don’t want to use Chinese medicine. I’m afraid of it. I don’t know it. We do know a lot about Chinese medicine. It is safe again as long as you’re getting high quality products and you’re working with someone who really understands the use of these herbs. Now in Ginko, the seeds and the leaves are traditionally used to make teas and tinctures and use it as a leaf extract. It can also be dried and put into a capsule. And many people actually enjoy eating the raw food, the raw fruit part of it and toasting the seeds. The seeds are mildly toxic, so you do need to be careful with this and only eat very small quality quantities if you’re going to eat them at all.

It gingko has a wide range of conditions that it can treat including things like heart disease, dementia, mental difficulties, so focused concentration, that short term memory issue. It also can help with sexual dysfunction because it opens the blood vessels and allows more blood to flow through. So that is is really good, it is safe. It is effective. It’s well tolerated by most people. But some people do get side effects from it including things like headaches or heart palpitations. Some people will get digestive issues or skin reactions and it is a blood thinner so you do have to be careful with bleeding and be cautious if you’re using anything else that thins the blood. Now, elderberry is a great herb elderberries, an ancient herbal medicine made and cooked from the fruit of the sambucus tree. It’s been used to relieve headaches and nerve pain and to vaches holds viruses and believe it or not constipation. Today is primarily marketed as a treatment for cold and flu. We know elderberry to take when we get sick. You take it as a cough syrup. You can take it as a sublingual tablet, maybe you take it as a capsule, but it does have other benefits to it, especially the nerve pain benefit. Elderberry is also available in a syrup or a lozenge like I said, and there’s no standardized dosing, so some people prefer to make their own syrup or tea by cooking elderberries with other ingredients including things like honey or ginger, and these can be harvested directly from an elderberry tree if you have them growing naturally on your property.

Number five is St. John’s Wort St. John’s wort is an herbal medicine derived from the flowering plant of the Hypericum perforatum Plant. It’s small yellow flowers and they’re commonly used to make teas capsules or extracts. It can also be traced back to ancient Greece and St. John’s wort is still frequently prescribed by medical professionals in parts of Europe. Historically, it was used to aid in wound healing and alleviate insomnia, depression, and various kidney and lung diseases. Today, it’s largely prescribed to treat mild depression. St. John’s Wort has relatively few side effects but can cause allergic reactions such as dizziness, confusion, dry mouth and increased light sensitivity. Now, it also interferes with many different medications including antidepressants, birth control pills, blood thinners, certain pain medications, and some cancer treatments. So you want to be very cautious with St. John’s wort. Don’t ever use it if you’re taking another antidepressant unless you’re working with a qualified practitioner who was prescribed this before you can develop something called serotonin syndrome and that could land you in the hospital. It can also reduce the effectiveness of your birth control. So you want to be really cautious with that as well. Number six is turmeric. Turmeric is an herb that belongs to the ginger family. It’s been used for 1000s of years in cooking and medicine. It has been known as a potent anti inflammatory. Curcumin is the major active compound of turmeric. And it may treat a host of conditions including chronic inflammation, pain, metabolic syndrome and anxiety. Now in order for you to alleviate pain and arthritis, some people need to do a very high amount of Turmeric studies actually reveal that the doses of curcumin are effective in alleviating arthritis pain and as an anti inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen and can compare with that. But again, you may need to use somewhere in the limits of 600 to 800 milligrams a day consistently to get pain relief. The thing you need to know about turmeric or Curcumin is that it is a bright orange color and it does stain so if you get it on your counter, if you get it on your clothes, it will not come off no matter what you do. It’s also been used in cancer treatments in very very high doses we’re talking 1000 to 2020 500 milligrams a day. And when you do very high doses like that some people will get gi discomfort they can get some diarrhea, get some headache or some skin irritation. So just be cautious with that dose. Number seven is Ginger. Ginger is a commonplace ingredient the and herbal medicine. You can eat ginger, fresh or dried, and its main medicinal forms come in the form of tea or capsules. Like Turmeric ginger is a rhizome or a stem that grows underground and it contains a variety of beneficial compounds as long as it’s been used in traditional and folk medicine to treat colds, nausea, migraines and hypertension or high blood pressure. It’s best established for relieving nausea Assos ciated with pregnancy, chemotherapy and other medical operations that can cause that it’s very well tolerated. It has very few negative side effects, but larger doses can cause a little bit of heartburn or diarrhea.

Number eight is valerian, sometimes known as nature’s Valium. Valerian is a flowering plant whose roots are thought to induce tranquility and a sense of calmness. Valerian Root may be dried and consumed in a capsule or actually steeped to be made as a tea. And a tea is really nice if you’re using it to sleep or to relax because it’ll work much quicker than a capsule well. It can be traced back to its ancient Greece and Rome use where it’s been taken to relieve restlessness, tremors, headaches and heart palpitations. Today, it’s most often utilized to treat insomnia and anxiety. Valerian is relatively safe, it may have some mild side effects like headaches or digestive issues. But you need to be cautious to not use valerian if you’re using other sedatives due to its compounding risk factors of causing drowsiness and CNS dysfunction. Number nine is chamomile. Chamomile is a flowering plant that also happens to be one of the most popular herbal medicines in the world. The flowers are most often used to make tea, but the leaves may also be dried and used for making tea, medicinal extracts and topical compresses. For 1000s of years, chamomile has been used as a remedy for nausea, diarrhea, constipation, stomach pain, urinary tract infections, wounds, upper respiratory infections, it packs over 100 active compounds, and many of these are thought to contribute to numerous benefits. So these are your top nine herbs that people use. I would say a handful of these should be in our medicine cabinets, especially the more things that you suffer from the better the more things you should have on on hand. But I will really caution you to to not use herbs as medicine unless you’re working with a qualified practitioner. By no means am I telling you to use all of these herbs or how to use them. I don’t know your medical condition. So you really need to work with a qualified herbalist or naturopath or integrative practitioner that understands herbs that understands your own health status, and can help direct to you as what herbs are best for you to have on hand what are best to use, and how to use them and for how long. So I hope this has been helpful for you. And I hope it opens your eyes really to where our medicines are manufactured from, how they’re found, what they do, and why we have so many of them. You know, plants are medicine, food is medicine, and we should respect it and we should use it as such. So I hope this has been really helpful for you guys. Welcome to Let’s Talk Wellness Now, I’m your host, Dr. Deb. This is where we talk about everything wellness, and learn to defy aging and live our lives on our own terms. Welcome back to Let’s Talk Wellness Now I’m your host, Dr. Deb and today I want to talk about Thermography. Thermography is a non-invasive pain and radiation-free monitoring of the body for various conditions. It’s best known for use and it’s breast management. And some related disorders we can monitor are things like arthritis, dental inflammation or infection, thyroid conditions, chronic nerve injury complex regional pain syndrome, also known as RSD, fibromyalgia thrombosis, which is a blood clot, fractures, pain, referred pain, soft tissue injuries, Fortune injuries, muscle-skeletal syndromes and diabetes. Thermography is used to identify inflammatory conditions prior to disease, and it can be used to assess treatment outcomes, assessing and staging of various dysfunctions. It is unique in its qualitative and quantitative assessment and helps to monitor the progression of disease. You see, the human body is thermally symmetrical, and our normal heat or thermal patterns are constant and repeatable topology, which will cause synthetic change in most instances. And these thermal differences can be seen on digital infrared thermal imaging, also known as DITI D I T I. And it’s a highly sensitive and totally non-invasive clinical imaging procedure for objectively detecting and monitoring many injuries and conditions in the human body. Because the human body is thermally symmetrical meaning the same, we can use comparative views left to right to detect physiological dysfunction. Clinical thermography is just a simple test of physiology that lies on the sympathetic nervous system to breathe out the bad skin, and blood vessels and the ability of the sympathetic system to respond and react to pathology anywhere in the body. It is controlled by the central nervous system and pathology is seen in long strips of skin called Dermatoids, and digital thermography of the breast takes only about five minutes and is a valuable tool for alerting your healthcare practitioner to changing conditions in your breast way before it becomes apparent on film or on a mammogram. It notices those symmetrical colors and the breast images change.

It’s possible to see active cancer cells double in the patient under the age of 50. We noticed that cancer cells may be present for eight years prior to the mammogram, detecting it thermography allows this visualization of changes much sooner than that. So typically, you will see changes in thermography. Seven to 10 years sooner than what you’ll be able to detect in mammogram. Mammogram has gotten very good at detecting very small conditions. But with thermography, what we’re actually detecting is that inflammatory change underneath the breast tissue that occurs long before tumors set in, so we can see those changes relatively quickly by using thermography. If we monitor the breasts that have a condition present, every three to six months, we’ll be able to see that change much faster, and it’ll look like a hot or a warm area. Oftentimes breast cancer loves to develop in that upper outer quadrant of the breast. So when we see those changes, and they’re different from side to side, and it’s warm, it’s it’s orange or red or white, white is our hottest color. We already know that there’s something going on in that area. Now, by using thermography. We can start mammograms earlier or if the mammogram doesn’t detect anything, we can push for breast MRI, which can detect things even sooner and smaller areas than mammogram can. Typically, breast MRIs are not covered by insurance unless there’s a very strong family history or a personal history of breast cancer. However using demography See if we could push to get that covered sooner if there was something that was going on that we were concerned about, and we could prove that it was happening multiple times over. So, once the something can be identified, it can be biopsied and then it can be addressed. If people do not want to follow conventional standards thermograms can guide how natural therapies are working and help to determine that change in those treatment plans. demography can show indicators several months before any clinical changes are seen, like I had mentioned, especially in inflammatory breast disease, we will see split discoloration, swelling or pain and inflammatory breast disease cannot be detected by mammogram. And it’s most commonly seen in younger women. The prognosis is very poor because it can’t have early detection in mammogram, like other breast cancers can and 1% of the breast cancers are found in men, the survival rate is much lower in men than there is in women simply because of early detection. And by the time male breast cancer is identified, it’s already in an advanced stage. Now the skin is an organ and has specific regions called dermatomes. That through the autonomic nervous system relate to every internal organ and structure and images can be seen showing hyperthermic asymmetry over the left lower chest indicating coronary artery disease even. And if there’s a decreased blood flow to the heart, it typically reflects in a blue circle. So as we’re doing breast thermography, we can see some of these cardiac stages as well. When we’re looking at dental thermography abscess teeth can be seen via a red and white inflammation around the mouth or the gum tissue. And it’s possible to see dental inflammation that even your dentist cannot detect by visualization or X ray. I’ve sent many patients to the dentist for things that we’ve seen on thermography. And the dentist takes an x ray and they can’t find anything. When the patient shows them their thermography the dentist confirms that there is something going on in that tooth, even though they can’t see it. We typically see a lot of this when there’s root canals involved. And oftentimes there can be infection underneath the root canal harboring, which can cause problems, you might not even feel pain, but that’s low grade infection that is infecting your body and causing you to be ill.

In the case of low back pain, this is really interesting because there can be referred pain that comes from different areas, we can see inflammation in the abdomen, indicating that there might be kidney dermatomes that are infected, which can cause refer back pain. We can also see neuropathy that is due to pinched off nerves in the spine. Those are also common things that we can see. Now the legs are really interesting to look at too because we see varicose veins, nerve and circulatory issues from our thermal imaging. And when these are identified, vascular interventions can be done with minimally non invasive procedures and when people have had pain for many years, and other methods of testing have not identified the reason for their discomfort. Oftentimes, the thermogram can indicate something different because it detects that inflammatory condition that appears seven to 10 years before disease can actually set in and our traditional imaging can see it. I had a patient who had knee and leg pain for over three years, but had a full range of conventional testing. And nothing was found they even did a nerve conduction study Wait, mg could not find anything wrong with the leg that was causing the pain. thermographic study confirmed the diagnosis of phlebitis. And you know thermal thermography uses body’s sympathetic nervous system. So we can see all of these different things. It’s the control of the skin’s blood flow is a window into that autonomic nervous system. And a compromised immune system can also be seen on thermography by looking at a distinct area over the spine called T1 and T2 which is at the top of the spine or at the base of the neck, and it’ll look like a giant big blue bullseye. And that indicates to us that there’s an underactive immune system, and this is typically seen in 100% of the positively diagnosed autoimmune-related conditions. Um, we see this in people who suffer from chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia. And also you can see this in people who have allergies or who have a compromised immune system. So it’s a reliable way of monitoring that immune function, as well as a reliable way to monitor the response of treatment and rehab over days, weeks and even months. thyroid conditions can be identified by showing hyperthermia over both lobes of the thyroid, even when laboratory tests are normal. When you’re doing trigger point injections, thermography can be used to determine exactly where to place the needles to reduce the pain. Athletes can use tomography to identify problems with stiffness, pain and inflammation. When combined with trigger point injection therapy and myofascial release, stem cell injections, exosomes massage and other alternative modalities. These problems can be resolved with using thermography because you can see exactly where you need to work on that person. Stress fractures can be identified by seeing a hypothalamic pattern on the bones even long term fractures or tears can be seen by demography. Objective monitoring of the effects of various treatments can be recorded with demography by monitoring temperature differentials in the body. For example, an entire region of interest such as the leg, the breasts, the back shoulders, any area of the body can be visualized and can appear cool in the local areas of inflammation, and the surrounding areas can be warm, causing problems in their pain points. We can do the same monitoring whether we’re using skin patches or pain, acupuncture, or other medical treatments. Even vascular damage can be identified on thermography, which can be missed by conventional diagnostic monitoring. Complex Regional Pain Syndrome occurs when an injury to a limb

treatment when it when there’s an injury to the limb. And treatment options and successes depend on early detection, usually in the first three months. And so if you have an injury and you go longer than that, you could be left with this complex regional pain syndrome. And the sympathetic nervous system shuts down the nerves in very severe cases, and tomography photos of the feet and the toes can look like they’re completely amputated, they look like they’re missing. And that is an indication that there is a regional pain syndrome going on, we can see it in the toes, and we can see it in the fingers. Sometimes we’ll see it in an elbow wherever that injury had occurred. And this can lead to permanent disability and pain if not treated early. These temperature differentials are important when reporting in the results. And objective evidence of demography supports a subjective opinion and can help in that decision-making process. In some cases, neuropathy can be visualized as well in a variety of areas of the body, Hands, fingers, feet, knees, back any of those areas, and it’ll appear like a dark blue color versus a green or a light blue color. In carpal tunnel syndrome that can also be identified by seeing the digits of the fingers, which are cooler than the rest of the hands. Sometimes they will look like they’re amputated as well. Depending on how much nerve inflammation is there, the inflammation in the wrist will actually appear red and white. So it’ll look harder compared to the fingers. When there’s been chronic nerve damage, these changes will be seen throughout the entire hand, sometimes in the arm, with the fingers being the coolest. And the hand will oftentimes up here like a glove. It’ll be like a blue dark dark blue glove. And this is what we call hypothermia. And this is telling us that there’s that nerve impingement happening there. After treatment of the carpal tunnel, the hand should return to its normal function. It’s normal sympathetic state and the thermal imaging pattern should change unless there’s still damage that’s that’s happening there or impingement that’s happening. Now we can also see occlusion of the carotid arteries and this can be seen as a red and white inflammatory condition. We identify this quite often. One of our patients presented for a breast thermography and we happen to catch the tail end of the carotid artery. And so we moved our thermography camera up a little bit to really get a closer look at those carotid arteries. And the discoloration of the artery is red and outlined with white in the center, we immediately sent her to the cardiologist, and she had surgically surgery immediately to repair a 90% blockage. This saved her from having a heart attack or a stroke. And it was simply by accident because we were doing the breast thermography and happen to catch that tail. Now if there’s a strong family history of coronary artery disease, this is something that you’d want to look at on a regular basis to make sure that you’re not developing those kinds of injuries. Certainly today with the concern of stroke and heart attack secondary to COVID would encourage people to use thermography for early detection, not just for the the carotid arteries, the heart, but also to find blood clots and people that may have the elevated D dimer levels from the shots or from the infection themselves. Because we can identify things much easier and quicker than we can on conventional.

So thermography is a great tool to detect disease. And it’s not used everywhere, but it should be used in a lot of areas in integrative and alternative medicine, it’s used quite often, it’s a great tool to narrow down to detect further workup when nonspecific symptoms are present. When we can’t find the answers for things, thermography is great. I really believe that it should be our first line therapy, not our last line therapy, we shouldn’t use it as the last resort to find what’s going on, we should use it as the beginning resort to find what’s going on. And we should use it to monitor treatment over time to know if what we’re doing is actually changing the patterns and changing the issues that we have. Because then we know that what we’re doing is working well. If we don’t know what we’re doing is working, then we keep doing something and we may waste a lot of time, money and energy by not confirming what we’re doing and making those changes along the way. So I would really encourage you to find a thermography practice or practitioner in your area that’s very good and very knowledgeable. Make sure they only use a medical-grade thermography camera. There are practices that are out using cameras that we typically use for looking at homes and problems there. Those are not the same. They don’t detect things exactly the same. And medical grade cameras are much more specific and are going to be a bigger help for you in the long run. Welcome back to Let’s Talk Wellness Now I’m your host, Dr. Deb. It has been a busy month in August for news. I know we’re a couple of weeks into September already. So preparing this for you. It’s a little delayed and some of you may have heard this already, but I wanted to put. Everything together in one place.

So you had an up to date idea of what’s actually going on things in the sea world. Our changing relatively quickly, Rochelle Walensky our CDC director came out and stated that the CDC made large mistakes and that they needed to own these mistakes. This is incredible for the CDC to come out and actually admit that they made some mistakes in how they’re managing a pandemic.

So let’s talk about what mistakes they actually made. It was clear that the advice from the CDC was erratic, inconsistent, and dictatorial. How can I call it dictatorial? Well, I can say this because of the mass mandates for flying on planes. It actually took a federal judge in Florida to rule that the CDC cannot tell Americans to wear masks on airplane.

Now, I know some of you listeners are going to argue that there was nothing bad about that. It kept us flying. Honestly, if you had to be six feet apart in a grocery store or a doctor’s office, how was it that sitting arm and arm with a stranger on a plane was gonna keep you from getting sick? People need to have some common sense in all of.

truth be told the CDC should have never given any advice or guidance on contagion control. Contagion control is in the realm of healthcare providers who look after patients. There was no evidence to support public masking or hand sanitizing or social distancing distancing. None of it. Now, hand sanitizing.

Totally normal, right? In any cold or flu season, we talk about washing your hands using hand sanitizer, you know, just doing safe, normal, common sense practices, right. But the social distancing made absolutely no sense. And there was no science put behind it at all. The CDC never should have given guidance.

On emergency use authorized vaccines. The CDC establishes the general childhood vaccine schedule. Which many of us question why they have that authority too? They are way outta their league on both of these endeavors and boy, what a disaster it was for America so far within just a few days of all of this, the CDC came out with its new guidance, basically utilizing Dr.

Peter McCullough’s five COVID truths and lined up. Most of the recent CDC guidelines to his five COVID truths. This is astonishing. They’re actually using Dr. Peter McCullough’s research and common sense to put forth the latest guidance. Basically the five COVID truth is that we respect carrying the virus there’s or sorry, with respect to carrying the virus.

There’s no difference between fully vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals. They’re indistinguishable from one another. They carry the virus at the same viral loads and are equally contagious. They get the infection with the equal Prolo pro. Sorry, proclivity. And at this point there’s absolutely no scientific support or any form of a mandate on someone taking a vaccine.

Now, this is really an important point because we’re starting to see hospital systems, revoke religious exemptions and medical exemptions saying that they have expired and that they’re only good for a year. And they’re going back and forcing people to take the jab in order to hold their job again.

Now in Denmark, they’ve already come out and said, this can’t be, they’re not giving the vaccine to children under the age of 18. And they are also mandating that no employer can mandate an experimental use authorization vaccine on any person in their country. We’re seeing the same thing in Costa Rica and it’s starting to come forward in other European countries as well.

The US is the only country that still is allowing forced vaccination on people in order to work, which is completely against your constitutional right. The British medical journal and others are now reporting that nine out of 10 people that die with COVID are double and triple vaccinated.

So now the head of the CDC was reported saying, oh, sorry, we got it wrong. We also see Berg saying, oh, well, you know, we knew it. Wasn’t going to. and others. And I believe that the CDC is trying to get out in front of this scandal. That’s coming, that they backed the COVID vaccine. That was not doing what it was supposed to do and what the American people were told it was going to do.

There are two papers in 2021, led by author Wheatley, which had the title immune imprint. What this means is that the vaccines were given every six months exposing the body to the exact same obsolete antigen with spike protein. This turned out to be an immunological disaster. What happened was the body’s immune system was trained and this trained to this high exposure of antigen concentrated in critical organs and tissues.

And then it was ultimately misdirected. So when the infection actually happened, especially in frail and vulnerable people, there were higher rates of hospitalization and death in the fully vaccinated. In Ontario, they now have data that nine out of 10 people who are dying with COVID 19 are fully vaccinated.

And we have to remember there have been three false claims of the vaccine program. The first false claim was the vaccine stopped infection. If you took the shot, you couldn’t get it. And that quickly eroded after we saw thousands of breakthrough cases that were reported through 2021, the CDC actually gave up on this in may of 2021, where they basically said we’re not gonna follow breakthrough cases anymore.

There’s too many of them. So there fell their first flaw, the second false. Was that the vaccines basically blocked transmission. So if you took it, you wouldn’t infect someone else. And that obviously became a false statement in summer of 2021. When the reality hit that stopping transmission was not working, people transmit the virus.

Whether you’re fully vaccinated or not. The virus packs amongst each other during weddings, cruise boats, Naval ships, and all kinds of one-on-one gatherings as well. The last false claim was that if you took the vaccine, there’s a consolation prize, you will have a milder case and you won’t be hospitalized or die.

Now this is just ridiculous. No one can determine how sick you’ll get. Or if you’ll get hospitalized or even die, never in our history of vaccination. Have we ever told people that if you took a vaccine, something like chickenpox, you won’t get it, or you won’t die. But many people were grateful to have the vaccine because they believed it was going to save their lives.

And unfortunately it didn’t, and it hasn’t. There’s never been a prospective randomized trial with hospitalization and death as a primary endpoint, where that was reduced by vaccines. The only two interventions that reduced hospitalization and death are having the illness first, where you had natural immunity and receiving early treatment for the virus, there was.

Series of fraudulent studies that didn’t account for natural immunity in early treatment, claiming that the vaccinated had lower rates of hospitalization. There were a whole series of fraudulent papers claiming. That the fully vaccinated had lower rates of hospitalization and death, but the data is now pouring in from Canada, UK, Israel, Europe, South Africa, and Australia clearly showing when they account for those who have been fully vaccinated, that indeed the fully vaccinated are doing far worse with COVID 19 than those who were unvaccinated.

Excuse me.

The other news bombshell in August was that the national allergy immun immunology, infectious disease branch director, a division director, Dr. Anthony Fauci. Who ascended to a much higher level of power than his NIH position ever. Granted him announced his retirement or he’s stepping down. I looked at his announcement on the NIH website and I was astonished to find that this kind of self congratulatory departure notice had no mention of COVID 19.

Yeah. You heard me right? There is no mention of COVID. His own signature program. So you have to think about this. This was his super bowl of his career, and there is absolutely no mention of the COVID 19 program that he put together recently, the new COVID 19 Valence boosters are coming out. And these really deserve an explanation this week.

The US FDA with no human trials. That is actually what I said, no human data. Only relying on the manufacturers, giving them animal data or rodent data, showing the antibody rise in mice models of antibodies against a common segment of BA four BA five spike protein. The FDA inly of proved this new. So Pfizer has had plenty of time to do a trial.

And did you know that investigational drug trial application for Pfizer for this new vaccine was filed on August 22nd? There has been absolutely no review by the FDA. They are just green lighting, everything right. This is extremely unprecedented, that they have had plenty of time to do large randomized trials.

They’ve been in the midst of BA four and five with this secondary wave for months. And they had plenty of time to do these randomized trials. They’ve had tons of money, but they don’t wanna do the trials because they know their previous shots are actually killing people. The very first set of trials, which had been done have been now critically analyzed by Peter Joshi at the university of Maryland and Joseph Friedman down in Louisiana at LSU.

And their conclusion in the peer reviewed paper is even from the original trials when we actually get all the safety data and the efficacy. The vaccines did more harm than good in the original randomized trials. Then it plays out in the public space, you know, under court order, Pfizer had to release their dossier, but the judge and the lawyer for the FDA tried to block this from Americans for 55 years.

What is it in their dossier that Pfizer knew about that? They didn’t want any of us to know? Well, it’s the 1,223 deaths within 30 days of release of their vaccine is what they don’t want us to know. This is unprecedented. This is prima fascia evidence that the FDA is involved in. The safety cover up for the Pfizer recently, and the Moderna documents.

They’re basically approving these on their face value without any evidence or studies of safety or ethic. While families were calling Pfizer saying my loved one just died with your vaccine. Pfizer was dutifully recording all of these deaths and they had hired hundreds of employees to man, the phones as these deaths poured in.

It’s astonishing that Pfizer didn’t shut it down after a handful of deaths or at least 50 deaths. The threshold for death trial is 20. No more than it’s pulled. I ask why was this not pulled? Why is it still on the market with over 14,000 deaths reported to bears to date? And that’s only 1% of the reported cases, cuz we’re well aware of the studies that show people do not report to bears many people before this pandemic, even in the healthcare space, did not even know about the fairs data.

And had no clue how to report and they’ve never had to report. If you’ve ever had to report, it takes hours. It takes a minimum of an hour and a half to two hours to document everything you’re assigning that you. Know that if you falsify this information, it can be punishable under federal law and you can go to prison.

You have to have the lot number and the expiration date of the drug and the vaccine as well. Otherwise it gets kicked back. So after all of your time, It could be for not because the VAERS database could still come back and say, we don’t believe that this was a reaction. Yeah. And we’re gonna move this along and not put it in our records.

I’ve actually had that happen a couple of times when I’ve tried to report something to the VAERS database. So why now are they doubling down with this super booster? Is it all just a test to see what they can get away? This is clearly a test to see what they can get away with. And if the FDA is going to shield them from any public outrage.

And it’s interesting because Albert Bourla, the CEO of Pfizer is going on CNN and other news outlets, advising Americans to take more of the conventional boosters and now the bivalent boosters. And no one’s ever asked him a question. You have 223 deaths within 30 days on your. What are you doing about that?

What is happening? They should have been shut down and the media should be asking this question. All this data is now being suppressed by social media and news channels. We are being censored for speaking out about these studies and our licenses are being attacked. Our own world council for health, which has put out a whole variety of cautionary warnings over the last two years, came out on June 11th stating after publishing their pharmaco.

Report that they looked at VAERS and the UK yellow card system, the Trudeau system in the EU, and there’s over 40,000 certified deaths that have happened within a few days of taking these shots. There are millions of serious safety reports and the world health council for health says. Pull them off the market.

They’re unsafe for human use. And this is very important. This is a worldwide body. They represent 70 individual organizations across the world. They have put out a series of cautionary warnings stating if you can’t get in safety and get them off the market, then. So relatively they’re saying, if you can’t produce a safe product, you need to pull it.

It can’t be used. And here’s the important point in this as Pfizer and Moderna and other vaccine suppliers continue to push these vaccines. What are we going to see? Is a huge giant finger pointing exercise in the end, Pfizer’s going to say, listen, the FDA never told us to pull it. The FDA and the CDC are running the vaccine program, the FDA and the CDC are going to say, listen, it’s Pfizer’s product.

And they had the responsibility to make sure it was safe from the beginning. This means that no one is to. No one can or will be held accountable unlike in vaccine court, because these injections are not truly vaccines. Can’t take your case to the vaccine court. They are also considered experimental and they have never been approved by the FDA.

The only FDA approved shot is commonary, which is not available in the us. The vaccine sponsors, CDC and FDA are saying no more legacy boosters. So remember Pfizer was 30 micrograms initially second shot, 30 micrograms, and every six months 30 micrograms. And there was no change for Moderna Moderna was a hundred micrograms.

With a hundred microgram booster. The new bivalent booster for Pfizer is 30 micrograms made up of 15 micrograms of the original, which is now obsolete and 15 micrograms of BA5 new genetic code Moderna booster is not a hundred micrograms like it used to be. It’s only 50 micrograms, 25 micrograms of original and 25 micrograms of The Omicron variant.

Now my takeaway is that they’re going to get less of the super toxic, original Wuhan spike protein with these boosters, and they’re going to be cutting the power. So we don’t see as many illnesses. But in the BA5 additive, we have no research in humans. So we have no idea what we may see as side effects or death rates.

It’s going to be less toxic spike protein exposure since Omciron is a milder virus. But I think the boosters are going to, in a sense, take the edge off of some of the safety tension, but so much of the damage is already. Now we’re fighting between Moderna and Pfizer Moderna was a three times stronger vaccine or shot than Pfizer.

And now they’re suing Pfizer saying they copied their vaccine mixture. Now this is really an interesting development because Moderna’s CEO, Stéphane Bancel a billionaire was the CEO for BioMérieux and BioMérieux is the French conglomerate company that Jacque Shrock negotiated with the Chinese to build. And they built the biosecurity annex in Wuhan, China to defend Paynesville and orchestrated the construction of the biosecurity lab in Wuhan, China.

And then in 2015 key changes from bioMérieux and he joins a one person company. So the CEO of BioMérieux joins a one person company in Cambridge, Massachusetts. All these key players are truly in bed with one another, and I believe they’re moving to other companies for money and cover up. Now Barnes joins Moderna and he starts working with the us national Institute of health on Moderna’s patent for SARS COV2 vaccine.

And within a few days of announcing that we have a pandemic, we have an emergency under former president Trump’s Declaration Moderna announces that they have a vaccine. Now you don’t come up with a vaccine in a few days. These vaccines were in the works for years. And in Peter Reagan’s book, COVID 19 in the global predators, which I would highly recommend you read.

It has over 1100 citations in the back is a timeline and that timeline. 36 pandemic planning, preparedness events that Reagan Chronicles, six of these pandemics were filmed and all of them have written documents. The courage to face COVID 19, which is a book authored by Dr. Peter McCullough and John Lee.

Highlight these developments as well. And they put it in the context of a story and a timeline of events from 1995. When the first coronavirus study was published, there are papers in the peer reviewed literature from 2015 with American names. On the paper and there is one Chinese name in the whole list of authors and it is Dr.

Shi Zhengli. She’s also known as the bat lady. So when people say this is an American made virus, that is correct. It is an American made virus. We just needed the lab in China to do the work. This paper is from the university of North Carolina chapel. And there’s an Institute in Switzerland and Harvard and the title of the paper is SARS.

Like virus. It’s published in the proceedings of the national academy of sciences controversy in 2015. This is not a secret people. This is not a secret paper it’s been there for a while. This study actually indicates an ongoing threat poised by Wuhan Institute of virology, one related virus. The need for continued study and surveillance are saying the viruses we’ve made in this lab has endangered the world.

This is a very high level level paper that could be trusted. We don’t need to depose people in front of the Senate. You just need to read these papers. There’s one in nature of medicine. That’s what’s so crazy. What so Fauci says is, I don’t know what gain of function is. He’s lying. His work is funded by the national institutes of health.

He indicates that the national Institute of health was approved again. And Vinet Materi is working for Ralph Baric in North Carolina, chapel hill. Again, these people are all in bed with each other. They’re all trying to hide something much bigger than a viral pandemic. The first paper on coronavirus was published back in 1997 by Ralph Baric

and this is his life work is studying coronaviruses, but yet he’s been the quietest person in the last two years. The team is again from North Carolina, chapel hill, Harvard, the Institute of Switzerland and the Wuhan Institute of virology and Shi Zhengli, the bat lady, she is involved in studying these papers with many American authors.

There’s only one to two Chinese authors on these papers and the rest are all Americans. So again, this is an American project. They needed the Chinese lab to do it because they have the technology and they have the. But this was originally done here. The title of the paper, a SARS like cluster of circulating bat coronaviruses shows potential for human emergence.

They made a humanized respiratory epithelial in a rodent, and they kept tweaking the spike protein in order to get it to invade a human respiratory epithelial for weaponizing. It was a weapon at the same. They’re working on an answer at the same time that they were creating the weapon. They’re working on a killed vaccine and they’re working on monoclonal antibodies.

That can be the savior. I don’t think we have biological agencies or operations through the NIH right? Isn’t that what Fauci is saying? But here in this paper, it’s actually showing that there is biological operations that have been happening for a very long time in this country. Now there’s two departments that monitor this.

There’s BARDA the biomedical advanced research and development authority. And this is the unit. Through the United States. And then we have the military department, which is DARPA, they’re the defense advanced research projects agency. And they work on a threat and they also work on an answer. We’ve had smallpox monkeypox programs.

And now after this, we have SARS and obviously there’s a SARS program. There’s been an anthrax program and. Luckily for us, bill gates, can’t keep his mouth shut. So a year before he star a year before the monkeypox outbreak, he starts ordering the monkey P’s vaccine and he says, it’s coming. And then right on time, it rolls out.

So all we have to do is really track what these people are. They’re giving it all away to us. We are just not grasping everything they’re saying, because we don’t think like they do. So the both of the monoclonal antibodies and the vaccine approaches have failed to neutralize and protect the infection of the coronavirus using the novel spike protein, both VARDA and DARPA are under the NIH, which monitor smallpox monkeypox SARS and the anthrax program.

And because they’ve been working on this for so long, they knew that a dead virus was not going to kill the virus at hand, meaning SARS in an abstract in nature medicine in 2015. They already showed that monoclonal antibodies didn’t work. This is prima fascia evidence that the us government academic program that’s gone bad along with Americans, you know, 10 million Americans were hospitalized.

And with this, a million people have lost their lives in our country. From this us operation. This is very sad for us to be sitting here today, talking about this. So now we’re entering into phase two. There’s been two wave of injury. First was SARS Cove, one largely the wild type. Alpha and Delta break outbreaks.

The Omicron outbreak was very, very low hospitalization and death rates. And in fact, Omicron is indistinguishable from the common cold, but people did lose their lives with this first multiple outbreaks. Now the vaccine programs have been cooking along. And according to Dr. Peter McCullough, the vaccine itself was created a wave of destruction in our country with injuries, disabilities, and deaths.

One of the breakthrough observations was that has come by Sasha Latypova in this report from Trailside news, which is a valid, late breaking science website, actually supported by pharma and a lot of other sponsors, the title of the paper. Hot, lots of COVID 19 vaccines, evidence of different formulations.

And these are statistical analyses of Pfizer Moderna and the J and J compared against the flu vaccine. Now, this is really interesting because when there’s a complication from the flu shot, it’s randomly distributed across all the manufacturing lots, but with COVID 19 vaccines, the complications are restricted to certain lots.

Now recently on Steve Kershaw’s subs stack, Steve has gotten the European medicine agency released from the vaccine manufacturer showing market degradation of messenger RNA in these product. Now I questioned early on when when did we go from having the vaccine storage from subzero temperature to normal refrigeration?

This was never talked about. It was never discussed and all of a sudden it was safe to be distributed to all the pharmacies, but not private clinics. And what about the pharmacists who went to jail for keeping a box out at room temperature in these randomized trials, the vaccine had to stay in negative temperatures and were single use only vials.

Now they have multi-use vials and they no longer need to stay in a special freezer. The majority of people who’ve been given the shot are fine, but the shots have degraded messenger RNA, and they’re actually not getting much of the genetic info in the, if the product was cold and single use. Things would’ve been a lot worse.

Most of us are wondering what is causing the damage in these various lots. And the truth is that you don’t want a fresh shot. Believe it or not. If you actually get the messenger RNA as designed and despite protein production as designed, it can be in many cases lethal. There is sloppy manufacturing and product handling that is saving Americans.

According to Dr. McCullough’s research, our recent Zogby’s survey, which is a very good survey operation in the United States, they surveyed a large number of Americans and two thirds of the people who took the vaccine of interest say. That they’re they’re okay. Right. 85% of them say I took the shot and I’m fine.

Nothing happened. 15% said they got a problem. They got a new disease or medical problem. Many of them are going to the doctor and they fall into cardiovascular, neurological hematological, immunological And now unfortunately cancer. And that’s the current state of affairs for 15% of Americans who have taken these products that are left with medical issues.

Now I know there’s gonna be some people who are gonna say, well, they’re alive and that’s a good thing. Well, I can show you 26% of the population that did not take the shot that are also fine. And many of them have already been sick with the COVID virus and. Haven’t haven’t gotten injured like this I’ve personally talked to a pharmacy tech who showed me a box of vaccine that was left.

Was beyond the expiration date. The date was crossed off with a black Sharpie and the pharmacy was still using that material. As soon as you leave that vile out, it starts to get warmer. And there’s multiple needle pokes that go through the diaphragm of the vile, and then there’s introduction of oxygen and oxidative stress.

All kinds of other things. So if you receive that shot, that was from a busy pharmacy that did sloppy injection protocols. It may explain why there wasn’t any side effects early on. I I’ve told this story before, but my mother-in-law got their shot at a drive-through pharmacy. And she said, it’s so awesome.

They put the bandaid on first and then they gave me the injection and I’m. Looking at her. And I said, mom, are you sure that’s right? Because that doesn’t make any sense. They, they never do that. She said, I wish they did all of them like that because it never hurt. And I’m thinking, well, you pushed that through now.

You pushed material through the skin in the needle. And people are gonna argue and say, well, it’s not that much. It’s not a big deal. We probably intake more than that in our food, which is true, but you’re also pushing it in with an ingredient source of experimental use products. Now, luckily for us, my mother-in-law is fine.

My father-in-law took the shot as well. He had cancer in remission until he got his last boost. And now his cancer is back and they’re having a difficult time getting it under control. So there is definitely some very near and dear things to my heart with this. And. Constantly encouraging them to not take any additional boosters because of the potential risks of what we don’t know.

So what am I seeing with patients who have had the jab? Well, we’re still seeing a lot of micro vessel clotting. We are seeing micro vessel clotting 8, 9, 10, 12 months post shot. People don’t know it. They don’t have a lot of symptoms we’re testing because we know it’s a problem. We’re detecting quite a bit of it.

We’re seeing new rare, autoimmune diseases. We’re seeing reactivation of infections like Lyme disease, Epstein barr, H H V six and shingles. These are just a few of what we’re dealing with right now. And the truth is that this country has had a problem with vaccines for many, many years. This. And people getting it.

You have to realize it is not a vaccine. It’s a drug and it’s in emergency use authorization. And you are the study. Now, if you are actively aware of this and you want to participate, that is one thing. But if you don’t know that you’re participating and something happens to you, that’s a completely different thing.

You have no protection. Of getting any illness that you really don’t want to take the risk of a developing, like you don’t want to take the risk of developing a cardiac problem, like myocarditis or organ failure, neurological or immunological diseases, or even worse. You just, you don’t want that to happen at this point now I’ve heard a lot of people say I’ve done my homework and it’s safe.

Well, I would encourage anyone who thinks that this shot is safe to look at this again with the rising cancer rates, after this shot and occur, reoccurring, rare, aggressive cancers. People need to really think twice about taking something experimental. If you don’t believe. Just look at all the commercials from lawyers, for lawsuits on artificial joints, contaminated water, drugs that have been on the market for many, many years.

Roundup itself has 700 lawsuits pending for cancer. J and J has paid some of the largest settlements for drugs that have caused injury. This is not new. It’s been ongoing for decades. Why do we think this drug is any different? I’m not really sure. I think we’ve propagated people’s fear. We’ve used fear as a way of getting people to do what they want.

There’s a lot of really good books out there showing that this is how Germany. Got people to go along with the Nazis and the Holocaust. And it’s not much different here. It’s just a different name, a different illness, a different scenario. And it’s not very hard to manipulate people when they’re fearful.

And so I really want to encourage people to start looking at things. You have no recourse. If you’ve been injured by this, there is no vaccine court you can go to because this is not a vaccine. There is no one that’s gonna stand behind this. The FDA is gonna push responsibility to Pfizer. Pfizer’s gonna push responsibility to the FDA and the CDC.

Nobody is gonna take responsibility for your injury. So you are going to be left with this potential risk and potential injuries and you’ll be alone and you’ll be hard pressed to even find a healthcare practitioner. That’s going to agree with you that this happened. After the shot and that is the scary part because you will not even be able to find a normal healthcare provider.

That’s gonna stand on your side and fight with you. You’re going to have to go into the alternative integrative space. Find somebody that understands this, find somebody who’s read these papers. Find somebody that has been seeing this and knows how to treat these chronic illnesses. To help you get better and it’s gonna be a fight and it’s gonna be expensive because insurance isn’t gonna stand behind any of this either.

They’re gonna raise their hands and say, wait a minute, we’re not paying this. We were, we were told this was a mandate. We weren’t told that it was gonna cost us $250,000 per person because they have myocarditis. Just look at all of the life insurance policies that are being paid out now to our young people, you know, 35 to 55 years old, we have a 40% increased risk of death.

Amongst those people, either the insurance premiums are gonna have to rise or the insurance companies are gonna start saying. We’re not gonna, we’re not gonna stand behind this. We’re not gonna pay these people out and that is gonna be tragic. And we need to stand together. We need to stand up. We need to fight for health freedom, and we need to fight for making our own decisions in this country about our own healthcare individually.

Welcome to Let’s Talk Wellness Now, I’m your host, Dr. Deb, this is where we talk about everything wellness, and learn to defy aging, and live our lives on our own terms. Welcome back to Let’s Talk wellness. Now, I’m your host, Dr. Deb. And today you see a very different background for me than you’re used to seeing. And that’s because I’m up in northern Wisconsin, enjoying a little r&r time with my husband, we’re on a nice little lake here. And my husband and I are going to do some hiking, and just kind of really enjoy the fall weather. And I wanted to talk today about fall preparation. So we are very close to fall. And when we think of fall, we think of harvesting fall harvest, we’re harvesting apples and peaches and all of the things that we grew during the summer months, and really getting ready for the hearty winter that’s coming. Now whether you live in a really cold state like me, or you live in a warm state either way, winter is kind of that downtime for us that preparation time, that hibernation time. And I think today, more than ever, we need to be thinking about what are we doing to prepare for the winter. Now, you’ve seen and heard me talk on this show before about healthy eating organic food, you know, buying from farmers markets buying from the local farmers, so you know how your food is prepared, how it’s grown, how they treat their animals, all of that kind of thing. But what we’ve never covered is how to store food for the winter. So all of our ancestors have had to do food storage. And you know, when we didn’t have refrigeration, we didn’t have electricity, it wasn’t as easy as walking into the basement or into the garage and throwing something into a chest freezer, or having our refrigerator where we could store food, you know, for at least a week at a time and in our freezer for months or even a year or more. But they had to plan and they had to prepare. And they had to can, that was the only way that we had options for food storage back in the day. And there are still many people today that do canning and do food storage. And if you’re not one of them, I would really encourage you to start looking at the options and the training on canning and freezing fresh food. You know, there’s been a lot of talk about food shortages coming. And a lot of people have said to me, Well, I don’t know what you’re talking about. My grocery store has plenty of food still. And I see videos all over of people who do not have food on their shelf. And a good eye opener for me was Labor Day weekend, we were up visiting some family and the local store there has never been out of food, even in a Labor Day weekend. And this Labor Day, it really wasn’t as busy as it normally is. So I was very surprised when I walked into the grocery store at the end of the weekend. And there was empty shelves not in like where the noodles and the canned items are. But where the fresh food was the food

fruit section and the vegetable sections were completely barren compared to what they are like there was one whole section that didn’t have any watermelon or cantaloupe and strawberries. And granted this is all their cut up product. So it could have been that they didn’t have people to do it. It could be that, you know, they just didn’t have the product itself. But what I found interesting was that section was empty, and the section where the vegetables were was empty. And I’ll actually throw some pictures so you guys can see what I’m talking about in this video as well. But in all the years that I had been going there, and it’s been well over 20 some years, I’ve never seen that before in my life. I’ve never been into the grocery store where aisles are empty. And I’ve been to my local grocery store and the noodle aisle is empty and there’s no peanut butter on the shelves and and I say those things because my husband loves noodles and he loves peanut butter and and I don’t know what he would do without either of those. But I took note to that and other sections of the grocery store are fine, but some are really problematic and So I think it’s important for us to heed the warnings of the people that are out speaking about the food crisis that’s happening. I like to listen to Mike Adams quite a bit. And he is a scientist. He’s also in the food industry, he is buying raw ingredients. And we know how much of a challenge that is. For those of you who know that I used to own GF naturals, and GF naturals was a gluten free flour mix. We had to close that business at the end of last year, because of raw ingredients, we could not purchase enough raw ingredients, we didn’t have the purchasing power to purchase what they required us to do, which was a pallet full, so a pallet full of any grain is about 2500 pounds, they were leaving that purchasing power to all of the big companies. So small companies, some of your favorite boutique e-companies, you may see going out of business, simply because they can’t purchase like they used to. Because if they can’t purchase in this large bulk, they’re not going to be able to afford to purchase the raw ingredients to make their products. So we will see more and more of that. And we will see more of the larger industries being able to maintain, but our smaller businesses are not going to be able to make it if they’re having that same requirement that they required of us. So just some of these little things have made me really start thinking that we need to be preparing, we need to be really buckling down on what we have in store what we have in stock. Now in my case, I have a large family. So I have three children. They’re all married, they all have children’s have a very big family. And I love it. But when when they all come to dinner, I cook for 10 to 15 people at least. And that’s not including my brother in law’s and my sister in law’s that comment as well. So as you’re thinking harvest season, Thanksgiving is coming. How many people are you cooking for? How many people are you preparing for? I think it’s important to start thinking ahead and start planning ahead. In one of our groups that we host at Serenity healthcare center, there was a discussion on food preparation a couple of weeks ago, and one of the gals had shared with us that her kids had been Food Prepping for several years, and they have a food.

It’s about a dehydrator, it’s a freeze dryer, sorry, freeze dryer. So they freeze dry all their food and package them in Mylar bags, and they use these little oxygen packs and put them in the Mylar bags. And the oxygen packs actually suck the air out of the bag. So it keeps the food fresh. And when you do that your food can stay fresh for 10 15 20 years, depending on what food you’re putting in there. And I think that’s an amazing idea. I think it’s an easy way to prep. However, the freeze dryer is expensive. It’s about $3,000. And I thought about this, like maybe this would be a really good thing to have. And I would encourage you, if you’re thinking about doing that, go watch some of the videos of the food that is unpacked from it, because that’s what changed my mind from it. My husband and I were looking at it and you know, they freeze dried meat and they freeze dried literally everything yogurt, ice cream, everything. But when it comes out of the package, it’s hard. And I’m gonna just talking a little hard, it’s hard. And you have to hydrate it. Now some of the commercials for the freeze dryer will show that they just, you know, pour some hot water over it. And it moistens up and it’s beautiful. But if you actually look at some of the videos of people that are doing it, it’s like leather, it’s like jerky. And if you’d like jerky, that’s great. And the one gentleman that we watched, was pouring all these sauces over his needs and letting them soak for a day or two. And my husband I had said, you know, if we’re in a position where we don’t have electricity, we don’t have good water sources were limited on food, we are not going to be able to find five jars of sauce to pour over this meat to eat it. And therefore that meat won’t get eaten at all. And now you’ve just wasted all of your meats that you had in your freezer, turning it into a freeze dried food thinking that it’s going to be good for all these years. So that was what made us choose to not do a freeze dryer. But what I did do is purchased the Mylar bags and purchase the oxygen absorbers. And I took all of my gluten free flour, and I packed it in one gallon bags, I threw my oxygen packs in there. And I used my sealing machine that I have. So I have a vacuum sealer, I didn’t use the vacuum part on it, I just use the sealer part on it because you don’t have to use the vacuum part with the oxygen packets inside there. And I sealed the bags, and I laid them flat on my kitchen table for a couple of days. And the oxygen packs sucked the air out. And all of them are nice and tight. And they’re air sealed. So I had packed flour, I had packed rice in there, I packed granola, I packed noodles, anything that’s dry, can go inside the Mylar bags and be sealed for many, many years, you don’t really want to put anything moist in there. Because if you get moldy in a moist situation you really want to can.

So I have canned before some things I’ve been really successful with some things I have not. I’ve learned why I I’ve canned potatoes before, and was unsuccessful with them. But it was because I used a cold water bath and not a pressure bath. And so as you learn these techniques and tools, you’ll get better at them. So I’ve been canning, I’ll be canning some apples and some fruit here. Pretty soon. I’ll be canning some vegetables. And I’m also going to try to can some meat, I’m going to try to can hamburger soup and try to do some beef cooked and put those in the canner. So it’s convenient and be if something does happen to electricity, and I don’t have the power source that I need. I’m not losing all of my food. And I’m certainly not going to can, everything that I have in my freezer. But I am going to try to can a good amount of it, I’d like to have about a year’s worth of food stock in Canning, and in dry Mylar bags. So that I have that food storage there if I need it. And then my freezer space is open for other things, and I’ll rotate my foods as they come through. And as I buy new stuff, I’ll rotate things through. And I think that’s important for us to remember is that when we’re buying food for storage, we’re not buying it for storage for 25 years and forgetting about it. We’re buying food that we’re going to consume every single day. And we’re going to rotate it through as we buy new stock, we’re going to use our old stock, and we’re going to keep continuing to rotate that. That’s really how you want to look at your food storage. Do I have food storage containers that I’ve purchased that are good for 25 years? Like, like military rations? Yes, I do have some of that. I don’t have a lot, I have enough for about three months. But when my husband and I talked about it, and we said you know that that’s really good for an emergency, put it down, pack it away, don’t think about it. But are we really going to eat all that there? And what are we going to do when our whole family ends up coming to stay with us in an emergency crisis, or when my entire family can’t find things that they need, because they’re not thinking in the way that I’m thinking right now. My kids aren’t in a position that they can prepare the way I am. And so I’m preparing for my whole family’s in now some people are going to see that they’re going to comment on this. And they’re gonna think that I’m crazy and that I shouldn’t be doing that for my kids and my kids aren’t learning anything. And that’s fine. Everybody has a right to choose what and how they are going to do this. And how are they going to take care of their family. But this is what I’ve chosen to do for me. My kids have different skills, and they will bring skills to the table that I don’t have. But I love to cook and I love to bake. And so that is my skill that I’m contributing to our process that we have in survival. And so I really think everybody needs to do what’s in their best interest. I have a daughter who has celiac disease. And so for any of you who have celiac and have to do gluten free things, you know how expensive that is, and it’s expensive enough to eat, let alone expensive enough to prepare for down the road. And yes, she can live on fruits and vegetables and meat and she does a lot of that. But if I can contribute and add some gluten free things to my pack and give them to her. I will do that all day long. So some of the other things that you can put in your Mylar bags are muffins. I don’t bake them before I put them in there. So I’m actually taking my muffin mix and I’m preparing a gluten free muffin mix, I’m putting everything in there that’s dry that I need. And then all I need to do is add my wet ingredients when I want to make them. So I’m purchasing as much of that materials as I can right now. And I’m packaging those in the Mylar bags, putting the oxygen products in there and sending them down into my food storage center. I really wish when we built our house, I would have built a cellar. But I didn’t I didn’t think about that at the time. And I have a perfect place for a cellar. But I don’t have that. But my basement is really cool. And I do have a little storage room where I can put things in. And so I’ve created shelves, and racks in there. And inside the

let me back up the the Mylar bags I put inside of plastic totes, because I don’t want any of the mice to get in there, which thank God knock on wood we don’t have right now. But I live in a farm. And so it’s easy for that to happen. And just as a means so that they get they stay protected, and they’re not getting punctured by anything. So I’m putting those in plastic totes and stacking those and that way it doesn’t take my shelf space either. Because if you get a gallon Mylar bag, you know, they’re probably about this this big already. And laying flat. You know, they’re they’re probably yay by yay, sorry, is a hard one to see. But I don’t want that to take up all of my storage space. So that’s what I’m doing with those. And all of my canned goods are then going on the rack. And they’re going in order as that I purchased them or expiration date, and then I’m just rotating them through so that my pantry is not quite as full.

I really think that all of us could do this. I mean, it doesn’t matter where you shop. I’ve bought in things that I would not normally eat. So we’ve I bought potato flakes. In case I can’t get potatoes. For those of you who haven’t heard, there is a potato shortage, there is a tomato shortage as well. And so if you’re a big sauce person, or you like a lot of tomatoes in your recipes, you probably want to be stockpiling that right now. Same thing with potatoes. If you’re a big potato person, you want to stockpile that. Now for a lot of people, potatoes and tomatoes are no no’s, because they’re inflammatory. They cause arthritic type symptoms for people. They just create a lot of inflammation and a lot of pain. So maybe you’re on a special diet, and you can’t do those things, and you can’t stockpile them. And that’s great. And that’s fine. But you need to find your other source of things that you can stockpile, then maybe it’s going to be sweet potatoes, or maybe it’s going to be yams. Or maybe it’s going to be instead of tomatoes, you’re going to do green beans, or peas or something like that. So stockpile what it is you need and want. The other thing that’s really important for you to think about when you’re packing your pantry and stockpiling your food source is do you have enough vitamin C, one of the things that got us into trouble many many years ago was scurvy. And that happened because we did not have enough vitamin C around. And so you need to have food sources that are high in vitamin C. So you need canned fruits, you need canned vegetables, you need things like applesauce apples, if you can get canned oranges and peaches and things like that, those are all really good things to have as well. Because you’re going to need that vitamin C source. And a lot of our foods are depleted of all of their nutrients and then nutrients are added back to the food source. So over time, we may see some problems with foods and the nutrient value. We’ve already seen it I mean, our growing power is terrible for us to consume the same number of nutrients in a bowl of spinach today to equal what it was in the 50s we would have to eat 50 bowls of spinach today to get that same nutrient value from a bowl of spinach that we had in the 50s. If that makes sense. I said that a little backwards. I hope it’s not too confusing for people. But we already know that the nutrients have been depleted out of our food sources. Part of that comes from the soils being depleted and not having enough nutrient value in the soils. And part of it is our farming practices are poor and all of the chemicals that we spray on it Our soils have depleted them of the nutrients. And then of course, adding the cost of farming these days where farmers don’t have enough revenue coming back from what they’re doing to put minerals back into the soils. So there’s a lot of reasons why we don’t have that nutritional value that we’ve had in the past. So you’re going to need to supplement with some things and you’re going to need to make sure that you have supplements available.

Now, one of the things that people are shocked about when I say this is that your supplements can be frozen. Did you know that? Yeah, anything that I wouldn’t freeze the liquid, just because it’s easy for the bottle to break. And it’s easy for problems to happen with that. But anything that’s a capsule or a tablet can be frozen. And so you can stockpile supplements, stick them in your freezer, and they will last forever in your freezer. So I do this all the time. I put different supplements in my freezer, I have different antibiotics in my freezer, I have antibiotic gels in my freezer, all kinds of prep things that I might need if somebody were to get sick. I just keep that all in my freezer, I have a little plastic box that I put them all in so they don’t fall to the bottom of my chest freezer and get lost. But I you know, that’s how I store supplements as well. And you can do the same thing. You can also make a lot of your own tinctures. So tinctures are just liquids, liquid herbs, you can make them with Everclear, which is 100% grain alcohol, you can also make them with whiskey or bourbon. And you use that alcohol base to extract the oils out of the plants that you’re using. And then once you do that, for a period of time, depending on the plant, each plant is a little bit different timing, then you simply pour out your alcohol into a colored bottle, usually it’s Amber or blue, because you don’t want the light to hit that tincture. And then you just seal it up. And now you have a tincture of maybe it’s elderberry, or maybe it’s cat’s claw, or it’s going to be feverfew or something like that. Now you have those things in case you need them, when the time comes that we may not be able to get medicines the way we should. If you haven’t heard our episode that we did on China controlling our meds, you should go back and look at that, because China now controls 80% of our medications. And if they wanted to, they could just simply choose to cut us off and not supply us with medications. For the most part, the last couple of years, there’s been a blood pressure medicine recall, because it’s been contaminated with ingredients in it that cause cancer. All of those medications that have been recalled have been manufactured in China.

So it is very possible that with everything that’s going on politically in the world, China could choose to cut us off. And if they choose to cut us off of medications, that is going to be a big problem for a lot of people. And if you don’t know how to access or use herbs, you could be in a heck of a world of trouble. So I think it’s good if you don’t know how to do this to start learning how to do this. So that you know how to prepare and protect your family with the gifts that God has given us on this planet. These plants are everywhere. You can grow them in your backyard, you can harvest them yourselves, and you can make them into tinctures yourself. It’s not difficult to do, you can find recipes all over the internet on how to do that. But I would encourage you to do that sooner than later. Because a lot of things are being censored, a lot of things are being taken down, especially things that are really good. And we may not have access to them in the future. So if you find them, I would print them out because once they’re gone, they’re gone. And you won’t be able to find them anymore. There are several good books that you can purchase as well about learning how to make SAVs and tinctures and medications from herbs. I would have that on hand and have the ingredients on hand you can certainly dry the plants. So you can make it when you need it. But it’s always good to have a little bit made so you don’t have to wait 24 hours or two weeks to get this product to be usable. So I know this video is very different than most of you are used to us doing. But I felt like it was so important for us to talk about prepping and food preparation, food storage, food safety. And there are a lot of great food preppers on YouTube that you can learn from and watch and I would really encourage urge you to look at your extension office, if you don’t know how to can, the extension office has a lot of great resources, your local extension office, they can give you books they can teach you, they can show you how to do things. Ball canning is really great, they have a ton of information, they have a lot of really great individual books that you can get on canning different products, if you want to start canning. And even, you know, putting things in the freezer, I’ve been doing that for years. But now the concern about electricity and all of those kinds of things, I’m moving less, I’m moving away a little bit more from freezer, and a little bit more into canning again, like I did in the past. And yes, it is very time consuming. You’ve got a harvest and can write away for freshness. It’s not like you can let things sit for weeks before you can them. It’s you got to do it when it’s picked, fresh. So it takes a lot of time, it takes a lot of energy. But this is what our ancestors did. They worked to eat and stay warm and keep themselves healthy. And we’ve really gotten away from that idea. And I think it’s time that we start learning some of those skills that our ancestors had. Because I think we’re going to need them. And if we have them, that’s great. And if we don’t have them, we are behind the eight ball. And that is going to be a little bit of a challenge for people. And we don’t want people to go hungry. We don’t want people to be injured. So the more that you can do for yourself and help others if they can’t do things for themselves is going to be huge right now. So here are the top 10 foods that you want to make sure you’re packing away in case there’s going to be a problem or there’s going to be food shortages that we need to prepare for. So grains are the first thing and I know in our holistic world, we try to stay away from grains as much as we possibly can because they’re inflammatory. However, when there’s a food shortage, you’re going to want to stockpile some foods that you normally would not eat simply because of ease simply because it’ll be easy to mix. They’re easy to store. They provide a good amount of calories for you and they fill your belly. So you want to have some grains, whether they’re gluten free grains, whether they’re whole wheat grains, for those of you who are not gluten sensitive, you can use einkorn, and einkorn is an ancient wheat. It’s been around for a very, very long time. 1000s of years it’s like the initial weeds. It’s that old fashioned wheat and wheat and spelt and einkorn can survive in a Mylar bag for easily 25 to 30 years. There’s been some people who stored and tested wheat 60 years after it was stored and it was still in really good condition. So that is part of the reason you will Want to make sure you have grains in your storage containers. You also want to store whole grain oats, rolled oats, steel cut oats, those type of oats are amazing for storage, and they fill your belly that gives you good amounts, they’re easy to mix with things. So I would take those oats and put them in my Mylar bag with the oxygen packs in there so that they stay fresh for as long as you want them to stay fresh. Rice is another one. Rice is very high in calories. It’s about 205 calories for one cup of rice. But it has lots of vitamins, lots of minerals, it’s easy to prepare, if all you had was a gas little stove, you could prepare the rice with a little bit of water and a little bit of butter. And it would be beautiful. Corn is another thing that you can store in the world of grains. You can store corn meal, so you can cook with. I would also store popcorn. Because it has a very long shelf life. It’s very fulfilling. It’s great for long term storage and you can actually even grind it up and make it into cornstarch if you need it to. The next thing you want to store is beans and legumes. Beans and legumes are a great source of protein and complex carbohydrates along with fiber. They’re literally a powerhouse of nutrients. We know people who are vegan, they typically will use the proteins from their beans and rice to get you know use their beans or use their beans as their protein source. So it’s a really great source and they’re easy to do. So you could use the dried beans you know just get them in the big bags and put them in your Mylar bags, put your oxygen packs in there and store them. So you want to have things like black beans, chickpeas, kidney beans, lentils, navy beans, peas, and pinto beans. These are all a variety of different beans that you can use in a variety of different recipes to get things done very quickly and very easily.

You can store beans in typically in big containers, they’ll come 60 to 75 pounds. That’s a lot of beans. That’s how much they say one person should consume in a year. So you know, break that down, figure out if you want to have a year’s worth of storage. That’s how many pounds of beans you need for people. But it works really well. You guys have heard me say I already have been storing potato flakes potato flakes are a great Fast Food Survival Food. Just add some water and you’ve literally got your potatoes. One serving of potato flakes has 212 calories in them. But it also contains a high amount of vitamin C, niacin and B six magnesium, potassium, selenium. So like we were talking about needing that vitamin C, this would be a really great avenue to go in. And ideal storage for potato flakes is about 25 to 30 years of storage. You can do mashed potatoes that have oil and butter but those are going to go rancid very quickly. So you’re better off with your potato flakes, the dry potato flakes. The amount of potato flakes to store depends on how many people that you’re going to feed and if it’s going to be your main staple. You want about a pound and a half per person would be a good estimate for an annual supply unless you’re using that for your foundation of your diet. Now you also can have dehydrated and freeze dried vegetables as well as canned so if you have a food dehydrator, you can take some of these vegetables and you can dehydrate them yourself and then put them into your Mylar bags. So onions, celery, carrots, these things are great to have as dried vegetables for making soups and broths and they’re easy to do if they’re in a dried form. And you can again dry them put them in your Mylar bags, put your oxygen packs in them and you’re good. You can buy dehydrated onion flakes. For some people this is a big part of their cooking and a big part of their survival food supply. They also have great health benefits because they have vitamin C, vitamin B six potassium and manganese and you can turn them into something else with your beans and your rice and you’ve got a delicious meal, I would have probably one to 210 pound cans of dried onions for each person for a year supply. Now you can also do dried carrots, that’s a great source of vitamin A, and we’re going to need that for seeing dried carrots can be tossed into soups, they can enhance any meal. And again, you want to plan to have about two to 310 pound cans of dehydrated carrots per person annually. Dried celery is another great option to have they’re packed with vitamin K. It’s a good source of vitamin C and potassium. So it’ll help you from cramping. It’ll help you from getting scurvy. And you’re going to use this in your stews and your soups and your chilies. So this is a foundational ingredient when cooking from scratch, you want about 210 pound cans of dried salary per person per year. Number five on our list is white sugar. White sugar has absolutely no health benefits, that is true, but it’s at the top of our list because of calories. And because it’s a good preservative. During a scenario where we cannot get things, a survival depends on our own food. And white sugar is a great ingredient in home bottling of fruits. So if you have fruit trees during the lockdown, and we can’t get food, you can go out to your orchard or your fruit trees, you can pick the fruits off of there, you can bring them in and with sugar, you can can them and you can make jellies and jams and cookies and all of that kind of thing. And it can stay good for a very long time. You want about 70 pounds of white sugar per person in a survival if you’re going to be making jams and jellies and doing things to can while you’re in lockdown. Number six is Honey, honey made the list because of its sweetening properties, but also because of its medicinal properties. It can stay forever, pretty much it will crystallize over time, but it can be easily liquefied by heating it. So just because it crystallizes doesn’t mean that it’s not good. I really encourage people to store honey in glass jars or quartz and

buy locally, that is really good too. If you can buy locally, you don’t want to store honey in plastic because the plastic degrades over time. So if you’re buying honey in plastic, bring it home, put it into a jar, you’re gonna have to clean the jar and use the glass jars for storage. But it can work really well. If you’re already purchasing honey in a glass jar, you won’t need to transfer it or do anything like that. I think it’s good to store about 12 quarts of honey per person for a year supply. Number seven is salt. Salt is a priority in food stores because it’s something that we cannot produce on our own property. It’s a great item for bartering. It’s critical in food preservation and health. You can store pure forms of salt, like a pickling salt or a sea salt, my favorites pink Himalayan salt, but it has an indefinite shelf life. I was traveling a few years ago to an island where they have a lot of salt and they produce a lot of salt but this was even five years ago they were already telling us the salt that we have available is declining. So I think it’s really good to keep salt around. You might want to have somewhere around 25 pounds of salt per year for cooking. You want about 10 pounds per person and diversify your salt so pink Himalayan salt canning pickling salt, kosher salt, sea salt, do a a wide variety of these types of salts so that you can use them for different purposes. Number eight is baking soda. Baking soda made the list because it’s a great leavening agent is wonderful for cleaning and personal hygiene and also medicinal purposes. You can use it to brush your teeth with you can use it to clean your counters with or your bathrooms with there’s all kinds of different things you can do with baking soda. You can make bath bombs with it. There’s just so many great things to do with it. So you should have about seven to 10 pounds of baking soda per person. You going to need about three pounds for food preparation and cooking about two pounds for personal hygiene a pound for medicinal and first aid and about five pounds for are cleaning and deodorizing your house a pound for miscellaneous use. So Baking soda is a great thing to have on the shelf. It has an indefinite shelf life and it’s very inexpensive you can get it from the dollar store you can get it from all the any of those places. Number nine is vinegar. Vinegar is a basic ingredient in food preparation and recipes. It’s used in pickling it acidifies ingredients when bottling such as tomatoes and salsa. Lemon juice can be used, but it has a shorter health, shelf life. Apple cider vinegar is also well known for its medicinal properties. Vinegar is important as a cleaner and a disinfectant and it will store forever in the right container. Vinegar will eat through plastic over time, so it’s best in long term storage to be transferred to glass. Now, the amount of vinegar that you want to store is about four gallons of vinegar for a household cleaning, for cooking, bottling and medicinal storage, I would store another two gallons per person for a year. And number 10 is ascorbic acid powder. It’s essentially vitamin C, it’s needed for health and life. And it’s missing from our survival food supply, because it’s sensitive to heat. And it’s available mostly from fruits and vegetables. And the best way to get Vitamin C is fresh. However, in a long term storage and long term survival. Having some Vitamin C powder can be really helpful. It’s important that once you open vitamin C, it’s going to start oxidizing right away. So it’s not going to last very long. You can use ascorbic acid and food preservation. You can dip fruit in ascorbic acid solution and rinse it to oxidize, minimize its browning and dehydration process. It’s also used in bottling to help prevent discoloration.

You can also have vitamin C tablets and supplements, I think that’s really important to have. So the amount of vitamin C or ascorbic acid that you’ll need will depend on whether or not you’re using it to supplement your diet and or to preserve food that makes all the difference in the world, I would recommend an eight pound bucket for a family or a one pound bag for each person. Now some of these staples are things that you probably didn’t think I was going to talk about or things that you didn’t think were going to be necessary in your pantry. So I hope it it allowed you to think a little bit differently about what’s going on. I also want you to realize that think about the foods that your family eats the most. Don’t buy things that and stockpile them for years, if your family will never touch them and never eat them, that’s not going to do you any good. That’s going to make things much more difficult. And it’s just going to be a waste of your money and time. So stockpile things that your family wants to eat, don’t stockpile things that you think everybody else wants that. Again, that’s not going to do you any good. So continue to add to your list add to this list, but it’s a great place to start with the staples. If you have not started Food Prepping yet this is the list that you want to start with. And then continue to grow from there. And I would say get a little bit of each of these don’t go out and buy 50 pounds of potato flakes to start with, you know, get a little bit of each, so you have a little bit of each on the shelf. And then each week when you have extra money, add to the list, buy a little bit more and a little bit more and a little bit more and just keep adding and rotating and adding and rotating. If you see a sale on something, then buy a little extra that one you know, but just make sure you have a little bit of everything to start with. And then from there you can grow. So I hope this list is helpful for you. It’s always hard getting started. But once you get started, it works beautifully. Hi, welcome back to Let’s Talk Wellness Now. I’m your host, Dr. Deb. Today I want to talk to you about vaginal rejuvenation. So many of you have heard my story about my own pelvic floor issues, my own collagen issues. I’ve had pelvic reconstructive surgery, had a uterine prolapse had undergone a hysterectomy. And then a couple of years ago, I underwent pelvic floor reconstruction surgery because I was having some issues after you know, God, almost 20 years, have a hysterectomy and had no problems for a while and then started having some problems with urinary incontinence and pain with intercourse, pelvic floor issues. I’ve had many guests on the show talking about pelvic floor and urinary incontinence and vaginal rejuvenation. And for those of you who’ve been following me a long time, you know my love for hormones, and I think it’s amazing. And I came across a device called the Morpheus V. And it was totally by accident, we had a rep come in and share this technology with us. And I was blown away by the technology. And I have to say a little saddened by the fact that this wasn’t available. Before I underwent my pelvic reconstruction surgery for urinary incontinence Had this been available? I really believe that I would not have had to undergo amajor surgery to fix the issues that I was having from my hysterectomy. This device Morpheus V is so amazing. It is a combination of radiofrequency and micro-needlingmicro-needling now before you get nervous, the micro-needling part is a little scary, yes.

But it’s really not that painful, we can make these procedures very comfortable for people. And for those of you who’ve suffered from urinary incontinence for years, you may have known about the Mona Lisa, cert,ainly we talk a lot about doing Kegel exercises, pelvic floor physical therapy, re connecting that muscle tissue and really being able to have a strong pelvic floor. So why is it important to have a strong pelvic floor? Well, most of us, we think about urinary incontinence and leakage. And that is very true. Without a strong pelvic floor, we are going to suffer from urinary incontinence, maybe fecal incontinence. And then eventually what ends up happening is we start having sexual dysfunction or we shy away from intercourse. Because it may be painful. You may feel like you’re gonna leak, you may feel like you’re gonna pass gas or have a bowel movement during intercourse. All of these things are problems that women suffer in complete silence. And myself my friend Sherrie Palm who runs a pops, which is the pelvic floor organization, that’s a non for profit. She has spent the last 16-plus years educating women on pelvic floor issues and all of the various devices and treatments that are available and really has come to an exciting time for women. Because what once used to just be a surgical option or a pessary or suffer and live with the incontinence and the pelvic floor issues, this arena has significantly changed with the development of some of these devices like Mona Lisa and Morpheus V. We can actually do non invasive treatments for people who do not want or are not candidates to undergo surgical intervention. Or they tried Botox injections into the vaginal tissue. They’ve tried estrogen, they’ve tried testosterone. They’ve tried all of the things that we give women to help with urinary incontinence and pelvic floor. But it’s still not helping. It’s still not enough. And when I came across this device, I was so excited about it. Because I thought finally for once we have a device that can really address the woman’s problem. In a very short period of time. We’re talking literally three treatments and after the first treatment, you’re going to notice a significant difference in incontinence. And I thought we finally have something that women can use that is effective. This treatment helps in 90 to 95% of the cases. Now, if someone has a severe pelvic prolapse, you know, grade three or something more difficult going on, it’s certainly not going to help in those cases. But in those mild to moderate urinary incontinence, urge incontinence pain with intercourse, like in planets, lichen sclerosis cases where there scar tissue and there’s pain, this device can significantly help make your life so much better. And I had to share this on the show today, because I am such an advocate for women’s health, this has been my passion my whole life. And I really feel like as women, there’s not a lot of research that goes into the issues that we deal with. And finally, we have something. So you know, a lot of times when people undergo surgical interventions, or you have birth a child and have had birthing trauma, like a rip or a tear, or they’ve had to do an episiotomy, many women end up with scar tissue in that area, which then leads to nerve damage in that area. And if you’ve got undergone pelvic floor surgery, they’ve cut a lot of the nerves internally, and women will tell you that this type of surgical repair, although it’s been helpful, has also created some other issues. We’ve create issues where intercourse is difficult either because of an over zealous physician that has cut away too much tissue and made the vaginal tissue too tight.

And yes, that is the thing as much as the guys will say, go ahead. It is a problem when they’ve over-rectified the situation to the point where you can barely get one finger in the vagina. That is a problem. Now the wonderful thing about the world of vaginas is bad, they stretch and it can get better. But it does take some time it does take some work, it takes some diligence there. The other thing that happens post surgically is many women no longer feel or have the same sensation that they have prior to surgery. They have much more difficulty reaching orgasm, especially vaginal orgasms, it’s much more difficult to stimulate the g spot. And in part, that’s because all those nerves have been caught. Now there are things that we can do. There’s different medications we can give into vaginally that help rejuvenate that tissue and those nerves, but nerve tissue takes a very long time to rejuvenate. We’re talking about one millimeter a month. So we have 1000s of nerves in the vaginal tissue. And so it takes time to rejuvenate that. But with the Morpheus V, it’s so much different. And it’s so much better because you can start getting that collagen and that elasticity there, you can start getting that nerve connection back again. And so it just has given us such an opportunity to help women in a arena that we don’t talk about. You know, many women do not want to talk about their urinary incontinence, they don’t want to talk about their painful intercourse. They don’t want to talk about not having an orgasm. But it creates a lot of friction and a lot of tension in the relationship because the partner always feels like it’s them, they’re doing something wrong, they’re not pleasing you, you don’t love them anymore. When that couldn’t be further from the truth. For the majority of women, it has nothing to do with that. It simply has to do with the fact that we don’t have the sensation that we had before. And with Former V, V Tone, Morpheus V, all of these things that we can do to help strengthen the pelvic floor to help reproduce new collagen, new cell turnover in the vaginal tissue.

These kinds of things can help so much with your sex life, with your incontinence with how you feel as a woman, the sexuality, the sensuality, of being able to dress nice and not have to worry about leaking on yourself or looking nice. All of these things are so important to us. And let’s face it, the world of aging is spreading. The female population over menopause is one of the fastest growing populations that we have here in the US and abroad. And more of us are entering menopause every single day. The loss of hormones makes a significant change to the pelvic floor to the vaginal tissue, to our sexual stimulation to how we look We feel from our head all the way to our toe. So when we’re talking about using some of these devices, for vaginal rejuvenation, we can use the same type of device with a different platform to rejuvenate the skin in the face and the neck and even our hands. And we can use it for body sculpting as well. But I think the vaginal rejuvenation makes so much sense for us. Because it’s such a significant problem. And using something that you could come in and have a procedure done in your office, over your lunch hour, and go back to work and nobody knows what has happened and you don’t feel bad, you don’t feel uncomfortable, you have no downtime at all, is huge. When I had my pelvic reconstruction surgery, I was off of work for three weeks, they wanted me to stay off for six, I stayed off for three. I worked from home remotely for another week and a half. But it really took a toll on recovery. For me. It took me almost three weeks to get back to walking two to four miles a day, I had lots of pain, lots of sleepless nights. And I was unable to be sexually active for eight weeks, and then re engaging in sex after that time, was very uncomfortable. Took a lot of patience. And a lot of time for my husband and I to get used to that again. We were able to do it. And it was great. And partially we did it because I have the knowledge that I have. But I could see where someone who doesn’t have the experience or the knowledge or somebody to teach them what things are going to be like and how to get over that could be a significant challenge for them. And they would give up and just say I’m done. We’re not having intercourse again. And actually my surgeon asked me before she performed the surgery, did I want to be sexually active after this surgery? And of course, my answer was yes, I’m you know, 51 years old, of course, I want to be sexually active still. And that made a difference in the procedure that she chose to do for me.

Thisidea that sex after 50 Doesn’t happen or shouldn’t happen is crazy. It could be our best sexual lives after 50. If we have the right tools, right? Whether you’re a guy with erectile dysfunction, or a woman with urinary incontinence and pain with intercourse, there are ways that we can maneuver this so you don’t have to be uncomfortable having sex. You know, there are vaginal lubricants. There’s vaginal estrogen for people who cannot or do not want to use estrogen. We have hyaluronic acid, we have Former V, we have Morpheus v that we can use now to replenish that vaginal tissue. We can use testosterone vaginally for men with erectile dysfunction. We can use testosterone, we can use Viagra or Cialis. We can also use an ultrasound therapy to help break up scar tissue and remove the plaque from the penis so that you don’t have problems with erectile function. We have seen a lot of erectile dysfunction post COVID. So people who have been sick with COVID. And people who have had the COVID vaccine are struggling with erectile function. Part of that is because of what it does to the blood flow from the heart. And it can disrupt that blood flow and cause bigger problems. And when it does that, you will find that you’re having more problems with erectile function. And there are ways around that there are ways that we can work through that we can also measure with a non invasive procedure, how much blockage is in the heart. And so if you’ve had COVID, and now you’re struggling with erectile function, we want to make sure that there’s not some kind of blockage there. We can do a three minute test in the office that determines how much blockage you have. And we know if it is a problem or not super inexpensive, easy to do nothing more than putting a clip on the end of your finger and measuring with a computer program. There are things that we can do in integrative medicine that traditional medicine doesn’t offer that can really help with this sexual function. I have seen some of the best physicians forget to talk about sexual function, forget to talk about urinary incontinence. Nobody wants to have this discussion. Nobody wants to bring it up. And I think it’s an important part of our health and well being for us to have these conversations. And there’s no reason that people need to suffer in silence anymore when we have treatments available, and not every treatment is going to be for every person. However, there are people that want these types of treatments, there are people that are tired of suffering in silence. And we need to be having these open conversations. And we need to not be afraid of them. You know, if you’ve been watching any of the TV commercials these days, you’re seeing a ton of ads for fancy little depend-on underwear for women, so that they can look and feel sexy and alive, even though they’re having to wear something to help with their incontinence. It’s all about loving who you are being comfortable with who you are being happy with what’s going on in your life, instead of being made to feel ashamed of what’s happening. Most people suffer from urinary incontinence, post-vaginal delivery, and birth. And we were in a truly preventative society, we would be recommending these types of treatments like V Tone and Former V and Morpheus V. Right after delivery right after that six week postpartum evaluation, we would start to do these kinds of treatments so that incontinence never becomes a problem so that we’re taking care of that pelvic floor. When I was training to be a women’s health nurse practitioner, we always told people to do your Kegel exercises through the commercials, and do your Kegel exercises at every stoplight, and after a period of time, it will just become like human nature, you won’t even think about it, and you’ll just automatically do it and it’ll be on autopilot. The reality is we don’t do that. And many of us either don’t watch TV, or we’re watching TV that doesn’t have commercials anymore. And we’re too busy doing things in the car to think about Kegel exercises. So we don’t get those Kegel exercises in nor do we do them properly. So we don’t get the benefit from them the way that we should. I don’t know about you, but nobody ever really taught me how to do a good kegel.

They told me what they were, they told me that I should squeeze my vaginal muscle. Try not to squeeze your buttcheeks. And that was about the extent of the teaching for Kegel exercises. And unfortunately, I passed that same information along to women for 15 years. And it all sounds great. But the reality is that’s not how it works. And that’s not how you want to do a good Kegel, the physical therapists who do pelvic floor reach can retraining do that much better. But women still have a hard time knowing which muscles they’re engaging and which muscles they’re not. And are they engaging the right muscle? And are they engaging it for the right period of time. And that can be a true struggle. So knowing which muscles to engage in knowing how long and all of that is huge when you’re doing a kegel. So once you get it down, could you subconsciously do that? Yes, there are many people that can, there are way more people who cannot. So there’s a program called V Tone that we offer, which teaches your body how to do that Kagel and it actually contracts the muscle for you so that you don’t have to worry about consciously in your mind contracting that muscle. For many of us, we are unable to do that by the time we’re in our mid-50s. And so we need some assistance in contracting that muscle and holding it for a period of time and then relaxing it. And so the tone is a great way for people to get introduced to these kinds of treatments and therapies, reconnect that pelvic floor, see how bad that pelvic floor actually is, or how good it is. And if you need further assistance with that Kagel, or you need further assistance with Tony that pelvic floor, then we can go on to something like a form of E or A Morpheus aid. Or if you just simply don’t ever want to be in the position that I was in. You don’t ever want to have to have surgery. And you know, you’re already starting to have some issues or some laxity in that pelvic floor. Doing this proactively is so important for your health in so many ways. Even problems with constipation. You know, constipation causes issues in that pelvic floor. And if we can rejuvenate that pelvic floor, it can assist with the constipation, it can assist with the pain for in intercourse. It assists with the vaginal dryness, and it also assists in the urinary incontinence. So I’m just so excited about this and I really wanted to share this with you because there has never been a device like this to the market. It is the first and I’m sure it will be the first of many, once new technology becomes available to us. But for those of you who are suffering at all with pelvic floor issues, I want to really encourage you to find somebody who has a Morpheus V He who has these tools that can help you reach out, talk to them, get an evaluation and see if it can benefit you. Welcome to Let’s Talk Wellness Now, I’m your host, Dr. Deb, this is where we talk about everything wellness and learn to defy aging and live our lives on our own terms. Welcome back to Let’s Talk wellness. Now, I’m your host, Dr. Dub. And today I want to talk about informed consent. You know, there’s a lot of talks these days about informed consent around shots around procedures, and what exactly is it? And why do we need it? Well, informed consent is a big thing within the medical field. Now I have seen it change over the decades that I’ve been in practice. And for those of you who have heard me talk about this before, my husband was a victim of an informed consent issue, back in 2006. And I’ll tell you a little bit more about that in this episode. But first, let’s talk about exactly what is informed consent. Why do we need it? Why is it important? And what do we do about it? Because informed consent is not just about what’s recently going on in the world. Informed consent is about everything that happens within the medical field, and other fields to you know, the legal fields, our food source, all of these kinds of things, we have the right to know, what’s being done to us, why it’s being done, and how it affects us. And ultimately, that’s what informed consent is about. So when we talk about informed consent, from a medical standpoint, we’re talking about both ethics and law. Each person has the right to receive information and ask questions about recommended treatments so that you can make an informed decision. Now, this is supposed to happen between you and your provider. There’s a relationship that occurs when you see someone in the health healthcare field. And that relationship is supposed to foster trust and support with shared decision-making. Now, I’m sure a lot of you that are listening to this are thinking, well, that’s not happening today. And you’re right. It’s not happening today, like it happened, even 10 or 15 years ago.

I’m just gonna say it. It’s more of like a dictatorship out there in the medical world these days, I’m going to tell you what you’re going to do, you’re not going to ask me any questions, I’m not going to tell you the truth about what kind of complications you can have, in part because as a provider, I may not know what they are, because nobody told me and some providers choose not to go out and look for that information themselves. And therefore they can’t tell you anything. So that is probably one of the most frustrating things that I am seeing in medicine today. So the process of informed consent actually occurs when communication between the patient and the provider talks about a procedure, and the patient gets to authorize and or agree to have a specific medical intervention apply to them. Now, that’s where it’s supposed to be. But many of you know just like me, that some people will intervene. Like, if you’re choosing to not have a medical treatment for a family member, especially like a child, they will threaten to call social services on you and take your child away so that they can impose the treatment that they believe is the best interest for your child and your family. Now, do I sound I sound fired up in this and I am because it does? It upsets me that people think that they have a right to impose their beliefs on a particular person and a particular procedure or treatment. And that couldn’t be farther from the truth of what’s supposed to actually happen today.

So as a health care provider, we’re supposed to assess The person’s ability to understand medical information and the implications of treatments. And we are supposed to provide any alternatives to the treatment that we are proposing. So that you can have an independent voluntary decision as to whether or not you want to undergo this particular procedure or treatment. Well, first and foremost, there are very rarely ever alternatives offered. And at least what I believe as alternative and what they believe is alternative are completely different things. But that is a rarity that there are any alternatives offered for you. Also, we’re supposed to present relative information, accurate and sensitive in keeping the patient’s preference for receiving medical information. So, when we provide a diagnosis, we’re supposed to provide the nature and the purpose of the interventions, the risks, the burdens, and the expected benefits of all of the options, including forgoing treatment. Does that happen? Absolutely not, it doesn’t happen anymore. We are also supposed to document that we provided this informed consent in a conversation to the patient or the person who is making the medical decisions for that person. in some form, we’re also supposed to provide specific written consent to you, which almost always happens, but you don’t realize it, we we document that you have had informed consent, you sign a consent form that says you had informed consent, but I’m going to argue that steps one and two rarely happen. rarely happen I’m gonna say.

Now, in an emergency situation, this decision is urgent, like, if I walk in with a heart attack, they’re not going to give me all of this informed consent for 20 minutes and tell me if you you go through this surgery, or don’t go through this surgery, or you do this or don’t do that. No, because their job is to save your life. And unless you have a do not resuscitate, or you have somebody that can advocate for you that says you didn’t want this, they’re going to do it. To me, that’s a completely different situation. If I’m in a car accident, I go in, I’m unconscious, I really want them to save my life for the most part, right? I’m not going to be able to tell them that I don’t want to do something, you know if it’s going to cause nerve damage, or it’s going to cause this or that. But for any other purpose. Informed consent is supposed to take place. Now, has informed consent taken place? With the jab that people have been getting?

Now it hasn’t? Have you been offered an alternative? No, you haven’t? Have you been mandated to take something that is new to the market? Without understanding all of the potential consequences to it? No, you haven’t. You’ve been told there are no consequences. You’ve been told there are no problems. You’ve been told that there are no side effects, which are all lies, I hate to tell you, but they’re all lies. And you can say I’m a conspiracy theorist on this, but I’m not. I can show you the NIH studies that backup what I’m saying that there are cardiovascular problems happening, there are lung problems happening.

There are blood clotting issues happening as a result of this.

You can argue that they didn’t know that because it’s experimental. And I’m gonna push back and argue and say they damn well knew this was happening. It was in their study information they presented to the FDA. They knew this. You weren’t told about it. But you were forced. This doesn’t just happen in this instance of this day and age right now. This has been happening my friends for decades. Go to any provider and ask them for a procedure for something. Do they sit down and have a conversation face to face and say, hey, you know, we’re going to cut you open and when we cut you open, we’re going to remove your appendix and when we remove your appendix, your immune system is going to decline a little bit and you’re going to have a scar. And we could potentially perforate your bowel, and we could potentially cause a hemorrhage for you. And we could potentially cause nerve damage. And, and you may wish that you didn’t have this out. I’m just making up something right here. No, but those things don’t happen. You’re not told those things. You’re told, we’re going to take your appendix out before it bursts and you get a systemic infection. If you’re lucky, you’re told that and you’re gonna have a little scar, you’ll take a couple of days to recover, you’re gonna go home, not a big deal. That’s what you’re told. So back in 2006, my husband broke his back at work. And he was sent home to drive himself with a stick shift, never called, they never called the ambulance. At that time, to their defense, they didn’t know he had broken two vertebrae in his back.

But by the time we were able to get with a surgeon, it was probably six months or so after his accident. And they decided that he needed surgery, because he had two vertebrae that were broken. And the informed consent conversation went like this, we’re gonna go in through your belly, we’re going to put some plates and screws, and we’re going to put some chambers in, and we’re going to fix those disks for you. And that was the informed consent, we were sent home and told to watch a video of the procedure. And if we had any questions, we could talk about it at the next office visit. Well, needless to say, I have lots of questions. And I was patronized about the questions that I had.

And those questions weren’t answered adequately. But nonetheless, at this point, my husband had been in so much pain, that he decided to go forward with the procedure, we knew that he was going to have a cadaver donor for the procedure, they weren’t going to take his own bone from his own hip, they were going to use cadaver bone. What we didn’t know was that the surgeon had only performed this procedure once before, with a drug rep in place, and they he had not used this particular product before, this particular product was new to the market.

And by not combining it with his own bone, the cadaver bone would never have been activated. So it would never grow. And it would never harden in there. And we were also not informed that the drug rep was going to be assisting and performing part of the surgery with the surgeon. And so when he had his informed consent, just prior to going into the or it was while he was already prepped, while he was already given medication, while they were healing him into the or they through a consent format him and said Here sign this. And that was the extent of his informed consent. Now, the doctor argued that he gave us this wonderful presentation in their conference room or their boardroom, all about the benefits and risks of the surgery and what might happen to him. And that this was a cadaver bone that they were using. And it was all my husband’s fault that this procedure didn’t work because he was a smoker. And for those of you who are smokers, you understand what I’m talking about because everything is blamed on your smoking when things go wrong. And after doing much research about the product, I realized that we were duped and this product was never going to work from the beginning. They knew it was never going to work from the beginning. This product was never studied or tested. It was never even tested for HIV or hepatitis or cancer or anything. And the cadaver was harvested from any person regardless of what they died from. And this is still today, my husband’s back. They can’t remove it. And we have no idea when or if he’ll ever have a condition that he wouldn’t have been prone to before. And this is what I’m talking about with informed consent, all of these things should have been disclosed to my husband. Just like all of the things that could potentially go wrong with any injectable material should be disclosed to you.

I cannot tell you the number of stories over the last 25 years that I’ve heard from patients, that they have gone through the degree of disparity they have, because they underwent a procedure, and didn’t realize that they could potentially come out worse than they were when they went in. Happens all the time. Doctors are not perfect. Our healthcare system is more than broken. We have a problem today. In healthcare, we think people are stupid, and that they can’t understand things. And they don’t know anything. Because everyone has told people that nobody knows how to read be on a third grade education, and therefore everything needs to be written in third grade language. And you can assume that patients don’t care, nor do they understand what you’re telling them anyway. So don’t bother to tell them. It saddens me to think that we assume people are stupid in this world, because they’re not. We know how to find information. We know how to interpret information. And if we don’t understand it, we know who to go to, to have them explain it to us. So we do understand it. And it’s no different than what we did in the 50s to certain segments of the population, assuming that they’re too dumb to understand, and they won’t care anyway. And we robbed them of their livelihoods, and we’ve robbed them of their health, and we use them to experiment on and we’ve never apologized.

It is sickening to me. And it saddens me, too. Talk like this and share this about my profession. But I’m sorry to tell you it is the truth today. So what can you do about it? Well, you can ask the important questions, you can prepare for information. If you’re going to undergo a procedure, or a provider recommends that you do something, don’t jump at it at the first chance, tell them that you need to look into this, you need to do some research, you need to figure out if this is what you really want to do. And then go home. And yes, I’m going to tell you to use Dr. Google and start looking for some information. With one caveat. Be careful what you read. Google is censored these days, it is not all the information that’s out there, it is only one side of the information that is out there. And I hate to say it, but DuckDuckGo is not any better. They are censoring information as well. So before, when you could research and you could go through the first two or three pages to find the information that you’re looking for. So true anymore, you’re gonna have to dig deeper, you’re gonna have to go to page eight, nine or 10, because of how Google is indexing things, they will only let mainstream stuff on the first few pages. So if you want to know the real information, you’re gonna have to dig a little deeper, you may have to use some alternative news sources. You might have to go to rumble, you might have to go to YouTube and find those people that haven’t yet been censored. You may have to start talking to people, or getting a second or even a third opinion, which if you do that, you need to go outside of the organization that was making the first recommendation because if you don’t, whoever’s in that organization is going to give you the exact same information that that doctor or provider gave you because they don’t have choice whether they believe it or not. So you need to do your homework. You need to protect yourself. And then you can make an informed decision as to whether or not you want to participate in the treatment or the medical intervention that was recommended to you. And I just want to add this one last thing in your core of who you are in your gut instincts something is gnawing at you and saying, I don’t know about this. I’m not sure about this. I’m uncomfortable about this. Please, please, I beg you. Listen to that intuition. Trust your God given intuition. Don’t let somebody bully you. Don’t let somebody tell you that you have to do this, or else, you have to do this, or you can’t see your grandchildren, you have to do this, or I’m not going to let you in my house.

No. Because guess what? when you do this, and your body is affected, and you’re the one that sitting there, debilitated, or ill, or not able to function the way you did before that medical intervention, do you think they’re going to be there for you? Do you think they’re going to come and help you? Do you think they’re going to pay your medical bills? They’re not. They’re not even going to believe you. And you’re going to be left alone anyway. It’s human nature. When my husband got ill, his own family turned on him. didn’t believe him, told him that he this was all in his head. The man couldn’t work, he couldn’t walk, he couldn’t stand.

And they said, Well, you know, you go get a job at McDonald’s. Everybody can work at McDonald’s. Anybody could do that you have to do something to support your family. There isn’t that compassion that you want to be there at these times. Unfortunately, I’m not saying everyone. I’m not saying all people will be this way. But I’ve been in this business a long time. I’ve heard a lot of stories. And I can tell you for every one story that I hear that a family stood behind somebody. I can tell you 10, where they’re not. And these are not dysfunctional families. These are not families that don’t get along. My husband’s family loves each other. I love my inlaws, we get along great. But during this time, wasn’t so great. Because everybody has their own viewpoint. Everybody has their own belief. And the unfortunate thing is, not everyone knows what you know. And most of us don’t share everything. And that is okay. So, I don’t want this to be a negative podcast, and it sure feels like it. And I apologize because normally, our shows are not like this. But I want you to be informed, I want you to be prepared. And I want you to be armed to do something that could protect you and your family.

You don’t have to do the medical treatments that somebody recommends to you, you have a right to say no, you have a right to an alternative. Whether it’s alternative medicine, whether it’s a second opinion with a different alternative of treatment, whether you want to fly out of the country and get different treatment, or whether you want to do no treatment. It is completely your choice. Your body, your choice, right, that goes for everything. Not just what’s convenient for our government or for our healthcare system, or for a family member. So it’s not true.

So educate yourself. Listen to shows like ours. listen to other people’s medical shows, understand and know learn about your body, learn about the therapies that are available, learn about the new technologies, learn the good and the bad. So that you can have that conversation when you need to have that conversation with somebody about your health and well being and you can take your health and your well belly into your hands. So you don’t have to depend on the medical system to cure you or heal you or give you a treatment. We have lost this today. Our young people today, at no fault of their own parents do not know how to care for themselves. We have not taught them how to take care of themselves when they’re sick. We have not taught them how to live Look at their food sources and what’s in their food source and why they’re feeling bad because all they’re doing is eating crap. We have not taught them the skills that they need to stay healthy and heal themselves. That is why they’re dependent on the medical system. And that is why this is happening today. We need to go back to survival, we need to go back to teaching the basics to our children and our grandchildren. So that they don’t need this medical system in the way that they do today.

I know there’s going to be people out there that are going to argue with me about this, but I’m sorry, I truly believe this. We are here as a medical society for you when you need us when you can’t fix yourself. When you have something beyond taking a Tylenol, going to bed, eating well resting, doing some old fashioned remedies to make yourself better.

But we need to know how to take care of ourselves first. It’s just my opinion, it’s just my belief. And I hope that out of this, you have learned exactly what informed consent is, or if nothing else, I’ve intrigued you enough to start looking into exactly what informed consent is. I’ve written a book about this, it’s called the dark side of injury. It explains informed consent, how to navigate the healthcare system, how to navigate the work comp system, why it’s against you, and how to fight against it. I want you all to be able to defend yourselves, in the medical world, prepare yourselves, we’re going to need it. We need to know how to take care of ourselves and our loved ones. Our medical system is failing us has been for a long time. I’m hopeful that a new medical system will arise from all of this and be the health care that we want it to be that it used to be that we deserve it to be and that it truly heals us and makes us whole again.
