Pledging allegiance to the American flag and to the “Republic for which it stands, one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all” was once a common practice to begin the school day. But from the beginning of the American Republic, women were only one group not included in the “all!” We will be considering the rise of American feminism as a response to the long history of the abuse of gender difference and asking what light the Bible sheds on these issues.
