Part 2 with bestselling author Eric Blehm! Eric is back with the boys at Liberty Risk for more incredible true stories, military legends, outdoor adventures, and the usual off-the-rails conversations.

We dive into the unbelievable story of Vietnam War Medal of Honor recipient and Green Beret Roy Benavidez, who survived a landmine explosion, taught himself to walk again, and later fought through six hours of brutal combat in Cambodia. Shot, stabbed, and nearly declared dead, Benavidez's story is one of the wildest accounts of courage and survival you'll ever hear.

Eric also takes us behind the scenes of his bestselling books Fearless, about legendary Navy SEAL Adam Brown, and Legend, sharing what it takes to uncover these stories and why preserving the history of America's warriors is becoming a race against time.

Then we head into the mountains to talk about snowboarding pioneer Craig Kelly, whose life and tragic death in an avalanche inspired The Darkest White, and legendary backcountry ranger Randy Morgenson, who mysteriously disappeared in the Sierra Nevada after spending decades rescuing others. Eric spent years researching these stories, retracing their footsteps, and interviewing the people who knew them best.

Along the way, we get into the golden age of magazines, growing up before smartphones, Eric's Army EOD father, and one of the most ridiculous Hollywood screenplay adaptations ever written, featuring a murderous beaver. Yes, seriously.

From Navy SEALs and Green Berets to Vietnam War heroes, survival stories, and mountain legends, this episode has a ton of amazing stories, plus plenty of laughs and the usual Liberty Risk side quests.

Bestselling author Eric Blehm joins the Liberty Risk crew for Part 1 of a wild conversation about Navy SEALs, DEVGRU, military history, and the incredible true stories behind his books Fearless, The Only Thing Worth Dying For, and Haunted by Heroes.

Eric takes us back to his childhood in Southern California, his early days chasing a professional snowboarding career, and his unexpected connection to the rise of DC Shoes, Ken Block, and Rob Dyrdek. He even managed to sneak into National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation as an extra, complete with a mullet and a pretty ridiculous behind-the-scenes story involving Randy Quaid.

After 9/11, Eric shifted his focus to telling the stories of America's warriors, starting with the men of ODA 574 and their harrowing mission in Afghanistan. He shares how those early experiences taught him the difference between official military reports and what really happened on the ground.

Then we get into Fearless, the incredible story of Navy SEAL Adam Brown, a man who overcame addiction and a troubled past to become one of the most respected operators in DEVGRU. Eric shares some downright unbelievable coincidences surrounding Adam's story, how the death of Osama bin Laden changed the fate of the book overnight, and what it was like earning the trust of Adam's teammates.

The conversation takes a much heavier turn when Eric describes traveling to Alaska and Virginia Beach to interview seven DEVGRU operators who served alongside Adam. Just eight weeks later, every one of those men was killed in the Extortion 17 helicopter shootdown, the deadliest single day in Naval Special Warfare history. Eric has held onto those interviews for 15 years, and their stories are finally being told.

We cover everything from the early days of snowboarding and the wild world of DC Shoes to Special Operations history, the brotherhood of the SEAL Teams, and the stories that deserve to be remembered.

Eric's new book, Haunted by Heroes, releases December 1st, with a foreword by Jack Carr.

This is Part 1, Part 2 launches Monday and we dive deeper into Adam Brown, the Extortion 17 tragedy, and some incredible discoveries Eric made while researching Haunted by Heroes.

Surinder Goode is back for Part 2, and this one goes off the rails pretty quickly.

After nearly three decades married into the SEAL Teams, Surinder has accumulated exactly the kind of stories you'd expect, and several you probably wouldn't.

We get into old-school barracks drinking games, Edward Forty Hands, "slap the bag" wine games, tequila-fueled nights in Bahrain, and the time a friend drank enough red wine to projectile-vomit while spinning on a barstool, leaving Surinder's newly built man cave looking like an active crime scene.

Then there's life as a SEAL wife.

Surinder talks about the infamous "Pink Squadron," getting propositioned while Chris was deployed, shutting down gossip at her coffee cart, being labeled a "betch" for refusing to play along, and her philosophy after 28 years married to a Team guy: hold your own, maintain your independence, pick your battles, and whenever possible, keep communication under ten words.

We also get the story behind Surinder's Coffee Shack, including quitting a six-figure job on the spot, spending six months counting cars outside the Navy Exchange to prove her business plan, and eventually turning one coffee cart into 13 locations serving the military community.

Somewhere along the way we also manage to cover stolen valor, Operator Syndrome, testosterone, psychedelics, ibogaine, military marriages, and why decades of nighttime operations can leave your body convinced sunrise is bedtime.

It's inappropriate, hilarious, occasionally serious, and pretty much exactly what happens when Surinder Goode sits down with the Liberty Risk fellas for 3.5 hours.

Join the Liberty Risk Patreon crew: https://www.patreon.com/cw/LibertyRisk Surinder Goode has spent nearly three decades around the SEAL Teams, married to recently retired Team One legend Chris Goode, who racked up 15 deployments over a 30-year career.

But long before Coronado, the Teams, deployments, and life as a SEAL wife, Surinder had already lived one hell of a story.

In Part 1 of this two-part conversation, Surinder takes us back to growing up in England's Back Country as the daughter of Indian immigrants. At 16, her family told her they had set her up in an arranged marriage 😳 Never one to be told what to do, she packed what she could carry, left home in the middle of the night, and spent the next several weeks homeless before beginning to build a life completely on her own terms.

She talks about working her way up in the restaurant business, dealing with discrimination and a male-dominated culture, talking back and holding ground, and eventually answering an ad that would take her out of England and halfway around the world to Bahrain as a flight attendant for Gulf Air.

The conversation also gets into immigration, assimilation, traditional Indian family dynamics, the difference between British and American culture, and some of the experiences that shaped the woman who would eventually find herself deeply embedded in the Naval Special Warfare community.

There are also plenty of detours, inappropriate stories, laughs, and the usual Liberty Risk bull 💩 along the way.

Former Army Ranger Cameron "Cam" Fath is back for Part 2. Part 1 was about everything it took to get to 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment. Part 2 starts off with a WILD story about the legendary "Georgina", then we find out what happened once Cam got to Regiment, and eventually, what happened when it was all over.

Cam talks about being the new guy in Regiment, the relentless standards, getting hazed for seemingly everything, and the kind of mistakes you only make once, including accidentally dumping diesel fuel into a building's drainage system and leaving his entire company smelling it for the next year.

Then we get into Syria. Cam takes us inside Firebase Raqqa, where his platoon lived in an abandoned schoolhouse previously occupied by ISIS. He talks firing hundreds of 120mm mortars a day, casualties coming through their CCP, and the strange reality of returning from a combat deployment with imposter syndrome because his war didn't look the way he thought combat was supposed to look.

Cam also talks about becoming a host of Netflix's Toughest Forces on Earth alongside Dean Stott and Ryan Bates, traveling the world and training with elite military units.

Naturally, there are plenty of side quests. The epic Ranger Rendezvous, the Ranger Regatta, Korea, and Rangers and SEALs discovering they apparently have their own versions of the same ridiculous military legends.

But things get more serious when Cam leaves the Army. Within a day of getting his DD-214, he was arrested for DUI, followed months later by another arrest and county jail. Cam talks candidly about losing his sense of purpose, depression, veterans court, therapy, meeting his wife, losing fellow Ranger Leandro Jasso, and eventually figuring out who Cameron Fath was when being a Ranger was no longer his identity.

Plenty of bad decisions, plenty of laughs, and a surprisingly real conversation about what happens when the uniform finally comes off and you have to decide who you are underneath.

This is Cameron "Cam" Fath, Part 2. Strap in and let's go! 🏴‍☠️

🏴‍☠️ Want to hang LIVE with Kevin, Nick & Ryan? Join the Liberty Risk Patreon crew: https://www.patreon.com/cw/LibertyRisk Former Army Ranger Cameron "Cam" Fath joins the boys for Part 1 of a two-part episode covering his path from a pretty normal childhood in Southern California to 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment. Although "normal" gets questionable pretty quickly.

Before the Army, Cam was a nationally ranked hip-hop and breakdancer, training alongside future Hollywood actors before eventually trading dance floors for the infantry. Turns out the footwork, coordination, and body awareness weren't completely useless either. Years later, he'd find himself applying some of the same skills to CQB.

Getting to Regiment was a little more trouble. Cam nearly lost his Ranger contract before he ever shipped, turned 18 during Infantry OSUT at Fort Benning, survived the general insanity of basic training, made it through Airborne School, and then spent two months sitting around in pre-RASP purgatory waiting for his shot.

From there, the stories start piling up. A genuinely creepy night alone in haunted WWII-era barracks. A training exercise that accidentally puts a group of Rangers carrying blanks face-to-face with a guy holding a very real shotgun. The difference between earning a Ranger tab and wearing the Scroll. The constant threat of being RFS'd. And the culture inside the 75th Ranger Regiment where getting selected is only the beginning.

Of course, the SEALs have their own stories. A conversation about Airborne School reminds Ryan about the time he was underage, using a borrowed ID, caught in a strip club raid by the ATF & DEA, talked his way out of it, and then got kicked out of Airborne School a few days later for something completely unrelated.

Army Rangers and Navy SEALs compare notes on selection, training, hazing, military culture, and the wildly different yet similar ways their respective communities operated.

And somehow, this is only Part 1.

In Part 2, Cam finally gets to Regiment, heads to Syria, somehow ends up on a Netflix show with Dean Stott and Ryan Bates, and eventually finds out that leaving the Army might be harder than getting into it.

Part 2 launches Tuesday.

Pour yourself a drink, pull up a chair and hang out with us. Cheers! 🍻🏴‍☠️

John "Hollywood" Carr is back for Part 2, and we pick up right where we left off: deep inside his 34-year career with the ATF and his time working undercover as a fully patched member of the Mongols Motorcycle Club.

This time we get deeper into what it took to survive inside the club, including the background checks, polygraphs, sponsors, club rules, and the constant possibility that somebody could figure out exactly who John really was.

From there, the conversation goes everywhere.

John takes us from outlaw motorcycle clubs to undercover weapons deals with the Sinaloa Cartel, sketchy cases that unfolded while he was inside the Mongols, and some of the stranger traditions and stories that came with living in that world.

Along the way:

• Selling .50 cals and grenade launchers to the Sinaloa Cartel • A Mongol 🗡️🗡️ two guys and trying to flee to Mexico • The infamous Mongols "wing parties" • How John became "J Hollywood" • An undercover ATF club vs. the Sons of Silence in a full-blown bar fight • The government trying to take the Mongols' name and patch • The late-night meth deal that finally made John say, "I'm done"

But like Part 1, the conversation eventually gets into something much bigger than undercover stories.

John talks about the mental toll of spending decades in law enforcement, losing fellow agents to suicide, and why the people doing these jobs often struggle to ask for help. That leads into a much broader conversation with the guys about coming home from deployments, decompression, some of the things they witnessed overseas, and the experiences that stay with you long after the job is over.

After 34 years of 🔫's, gangs, bikers, undercover identities and more close calls than most people experience in a lifetime, John eventually knew it was time to walk away.

This is Part 2 of our conversation with John "Hollywood" Carr.

Pull up a stool, grab a drink and enjoy the show. CHEERS!! 🍻🍻🏴‍☠️

🏴‍☠️ Want to hang LIVE with Kevin, Nick & Ryan? Join the Liberty Risk Patreon crew: https://www.patreon.com/cw/LibertyRisk John "Hollywood" Carr spent 34 years with the ATF, building a career around undercover operations, gang investigations, firearms cases, and some of the most dangerous corners of organized crime. That career eventually took him deep inside the outlaw motorcycle club world, where he became a fully patched member of the Mongols while working undercover.

John grew up in Northern California, played football at UC Davis, and eventually stumbled into an ATF recruiting booth while working on his MBA. His biggest question was whether they required a polygraph.

Thankfully they didn't. 😂

Next thing he knew, he had a badge, a gun, a government car, and a career that would put him inside some very strange situations over the next three decades, which he excelled at.

In Part 1 of our conversation, John takes us from the early days of his ATF career through the realities of long-term undercover work and into the operation that put him inside the Mongols. We get into the culture of old-school federal law enforcement, the psychology of living under an assumed identity, working informants, and the strange combination of trust, brotherhood, and violence that exists inside the outlaw biker world.

Along the way:

• Old-school ATF and some highly questionable workplace behavior

• Waco and how it changed the ATF • The four-lines-of-coke incident • A Hells Angels murder investigation • Infiltrating the Mongols Motorcycle Club • Getting patched without ever prospecting in early 40's • "Hells Angels in the lobby" random dudes in the wrong place at the wrong time

• What happens when an undercover agent's real life and criminal identity start getting dangerously close

There's a lot of talk about 🔫🔫, 💊❄️, bikers and undercover operations, but underneath all of it is something John keeps coming back to: the TEAM.

Why people seek it out. Why some guys will risk everything to stay part of it. And what happens when that team disappears.

After nearly two hours, we'd barely scratched the surface.

So we split this one in half.

Part 2 drops Tuesday.

This is Part 2 of a two-episode special recorded during the Frogman Motorcycle Club's annual gathering honoring the men lost on Extortion 17.

Part 2 from Ye Olde Plank Inn picks up right where we left off and this one goes from old-school SEAL debauchery to one hell of a Desert Storm story.

Dave "Gut" Gutierrez and Billy Helmers join us for Frogman MC, old Team 5 and Plank stories, including Quonset hut keg parties, new-guy rituals, rockets that may or may not have worked as intended, bar fights, road rage and enough questionable decisions to remind everyone why this podcast is called Liberty Risk.

But Gut also gets serious about sobriety, helping other team guys through addiction and life after the Teams, and why sometimes hearing "I've been there" from another guy who lived it hits differently.

Then retired Navy Captain and former SEAL Team 5 XO/CO Tom Dietz sits down with us.

Tom gets into his philosophy of leadership and "the gray area," including the incredible story of how he once had to take Gut's Trident while quietly fighting to give him a chance to save his career. Gut eventually became a SEAL Command Master Chief.

Then we go back to Desert Storm.

Tom walks us through a six-man SEAL deception mission off the coast of Kuwait involving minefields, C4, Zodiac boats, .50 cals, Mark 19s and thousands of Iraqi troops waiting onshore. Their job was to convince Saddam's forces that a massive Marine amphibious assault was coming.

It worked.

Iraq shifted thousands of troops toward the beach while coalition forces launched the real attack from the west.

We also get into Tom's unexpected retirement, and the fulfillment he's gained from helped raise money for the Special Operations Warrior Foundation to provide education for the children of America's Special Operations community.

Bar fights, brotherhood, bad decisions, leadership, redemption and one hell of a war story.

Part 2 from Ye Olde Plank.

Whiskey & War Crimes. 🥃🇺🇸

This week, Liberty Risk got out of our studio & filmed on location at Ye Olde Plank Inn in Imperial Beach for Part 1 of a two-episode special recorded during the Frogman Motorcycle Club's annual gathering honoring the men lost on Extortion 17.

We sat down with six amazing guests throughout the day, and what started as a day of remembrance turned into hours of completely unscripted conversations with Navy SEALs, cops, veterans, bikers, contractors, entrepreneurs, and enough old school Imperial Beach stories to explain why all these guys earned their liberty risk title.

In Part 1, former Navy SEAL turned cop and helicopter pilot Elias Rodriguez joins Ryan to revisit the night they first met more than 20 years ago, when Elias responded to a house-party brawl involving SEALs, cops, a Dirty Harry sized revolver, and Joel Lambert screaming from a balcony. Elias also takes us inside some of the wildest moments of his 26-year law-enforcement career, from a police chase with $250,000 in cash flying across the freeway to an officer-down manhunt he'll never forget.

Then Ye Olde Plank owners Marty and Big Tony sit down to condense decades of Big Navy, Frogman, contracting, bar-fight, and Imperial Beach history, including the legendary palm tree where unconscious patrons apparently went to recover.

From Navy stories and bar fights to drug-money chases, questionable statute-of-limitations confessions, and some legendary characters from IB's past, this one goes everywhere.

But underneath all the chaos is the reason everyone was there in the first place: remembering the 30 Americans lost aboard Extortion 17 on August 6, 2011.

And we're not done. Part 2 drops Tuesday with the rest of our conversations from Ye Olde Plank, stay tuned!

Settle in, grab a drink. This is Liberty Risk at Ye Olde Plank Inn.
