Great story, great performance, a few errors

In a world where everyone has magical powers, what's life for the one who doesn't?

Ian S. Peake's performance with all the character voices was really enjoyable. The story grabbed me and kept me listening, without being too light or too heavy. There were a few minor editing errors in the first release audio, but nothing that disrupted the story overmuch.

I received this copy from the author in exchange for this review. This is a short, interesting scifi offering that is somewhat "out there" in the ideas covered, but it discusses them in realistic and digestible ways. I enjoyed it for what it is , and it would be worth the credit for folks who enjoy conspiracy theory scifi offerings.

Too short and needed more editing

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

This one missed the mark for me. The concept was cool and hints at a lot of interesting ideas about life on Mars. I just thought it was too short to fully realize any of them. The whole book felt really rushed and I felt the editing could have been better.

short and fast

This was a very quick fast paced listen. I do wish it was longer, maybe more detail, but it was interesting.

this was my first "Alien" book. not sure if I want to listen to anther.. those are suckers are scary...

Sci fi mars landing with a twist

I applaud any and all who can write, be published, etc. that being said, this story wasn't for me. Having listened to this and not read it I can't say for sure if the story would have been better in book form. I can say the narrator didn't work for me. I listen to audiobooks while driving for the most part (long commute). I had to switch to music and listen at home as it was putting me to sleep. Being such a short story I could have read it in half the time of listening to it and may have enjoyed it more. Interesting concept for a mars landing, deception, tragedy and alien encounters. The ending was different but left it at a bit of a cliffhanger. Recommend buying in print or ebook form. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.

Would you try another book from Emmi Itäranta and/or Aysha Kala?

Yes, I do like her writing style.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Not what I would have expected, disappointing as the message came down to the last few lines, even though you could tell where things were going. However I do like her writing style.

Would you be willing to try another one of Aysha Kalas performances?

Yes, possibly. I think she needs to speed it up a little.

The narrator had a pleasant voice, just a little too slow and much too many unnecessary " I says, she says, he says", made it very hard to listen to. The voice of the "prophet" was just too much. Maybe this if for adolescents, definitely not for me.

short but worth the listen.

loved it. worth listening time but too short. I loved the reader's style who did much more to bring the story and characters to life, much better than my own imagination.

Good little story

This was an interesting audiobook to listen to, though I wish the story had been longer and more in depth. The characters were well written and the narration was very good.

light listening

I was gifted this audio ARC from the author for a honest and unbiased review

I struggled to listen throughout this book, had to come back a couple times to finish it. ...the story great had potential but fell flat. I had a feeling that the plot was incomplete. The book ended way too abruptly.

Unfortunately Denise Kahn was a little off putting to me and found he a little hard to listen too. But in saying that, it's just my impression others will love her story telling.

Eat or be Eaten

King combines ingredients from Star Trek, Star Wars, and old Saturday morning movie serials to create a science fiction casserole that will delight listeners/readers. He borrows the template of British command structure which was so obvious in Star Trek. He also spices his scenes with that "Band of Brothers" ethos that life aboard the Enterprise had. To that base he adds a cast of intergalactic life forms, all sentient, reminiscent of Star Wars. The diversity of characters is well developed, maintained, and made believable King's choice of Somerset Hamilton as narrator. Finally, the author punctuates the rhythm of his tale with one cliff-hanging event after another as was a main stay of Saturday movie action serials. All-in-all, Earth vs. Aliens is great dish for those whose tastes run to space based science fiction filled with action.

StarTrek BattlestarGalactica & Futurama had a baby

This is a very fast paced space adventure with humans battling it out with more than one alien race. Jack Munroe doesnt start off as the captain of the Uhuru (thanks for that nod to Star Trek) but things go wrong early on for the original captain, Monique dAuberge. The Polish engineer, Max Piakowski, becomes Jacks wingman as they quickly assess these new predator aliens and come up with a game plan.

In many ways, this story felt like a really long episode of Star Trek meets Battlestar Galactica meets Futurama. Jack often acts like Captain Kirk in Star Trek but the aliens can be pretty vicious like the Cylons in Battlestar Galacitica. Meanwhile, there are some silly shenanigans and stubborn idiocy by bureaucrats as I would expect in Futurama.

Most of the time I liked the quick nature of the story but sometimes I did get fatigued and wanted a moment to reflect on things or clarify the current score. Also there are a ton of characters in this story. Honestly, I lost track of nearly everyone. I believe theres no less than 3 alien species introduced and yet I had trouble keeping the individual alien characters separate as well.
