We spend so much time focusing on our relationships with other people that it’s easy to forget we matter too. The relationship we have with ourselves is the foundation for every other relationship in our lives, and when that self-connection is strained or neglected, everything else feels harder.

Today, I’m sharing a special rebroadcast from the Raising Boys, Building Men podcast, hosted by Master Coach Heidi Allsop. In this conversation with my fellow She Rises co-authors, Michelle Keil and Maria Hendershot, we discussed how the themes we each write about in the book—wholeness over hustle culture, creativity, nervous system regulation, and joy—directly support moms who want to care for themselves and their kids at the same time.

In this episode, I’m bringing you an interview with Mariana Steelsmith, the founder of United Rocks—an organization created to offer climbing opportunities for special needs climbers of all abilities. United Rocks was born from Mariana’s heart and her lived experience with her son Jake, who has Down syndrome. What began as a desire to support her own child has grown into something that is impacting families and climbers far beyond her own.

I began volunteering at United Rocks last year, and watching people come together to support growth, confidence, and incredible experiences has been phenomenal. As I learned more about this adaptive rock climbing organization, I knew I had to bring Mariana here to share the mission.

This is a slightly different episode, but Mariana’s story so clearly reflects what this podcast is about. She took what life brought her, learned from it, grew with it, and then turned around to create something that impacts others in a meaningful way. Through climbing, the United Rocks community is helping people build strength and connection.

Life mastery means aligning with who we are, our gifts, and our purpose, and using those things to bring more goodness into the world. As we enter 2026, so many of us want to face the year with the strongest mindset possible. With that in mind, I decided to rebroadcast my most listened-to episode, which explores why thought work in isolation can actually be detrimental.

I don’t use the word “detrimental” lightly—this realization came after hitting a very real personal rock bottom. I am a huge believer in the power of the mind and the importance of thinking in ways that are useful, supportive, and empowering. But through my own lived experience and through working with hundreds of clients and coaches, I came to understand that mindset work alone, without a full understanding of the brain, body, emotions, and nervous system, can do real harm.

The key takeaway here is simple, yet profound: not all feelings arise from thoughts. Emotions have their own narratives and are often stored within our bodies, carrying important messages. The nervous system plays a crucial role in this interplay, and a "thoughts create feelings" perspective ignores that. 80% of messages travel from our bodies to our brains, not the other way around.

This topic is not particularly light, but it is encouraging and deeply important. It is what catapulted my journey into creating holistic Master Coach Training—so I can help coaches be safe and ethical, and help each of you, as a human invested in your own growth, understand how to support self-mastery in a way that creates wholeness and healthy patterns. Whether you’re a coach wanting to deepen your holistic approach, or someone on your own personal growth journey, I’m honored to share this very important episode with you again.

So often, we assume a lack of progress means our clients need more motivation, a mindset reframe, or a stronger push. But most coaching programs don’t teach the full picture of what clients need to get results. The real issue is almost always something different: a disconnection from their emotional world. Navigating health can feel complicated and overwhelming, especially for women in midlife. Between new workout routines, supplement trends, and the constant advice we see online, it’s difficult to discern what we actually need to be healthy.

Deep health is not a matter of following the leader, but understanding what you–your body, your mind, and your nervous system–need to feel good. In this episode, I talk with Courtney Townley of the Grace & Grit podcast about what holistic women's health really means and how to approach it with more ease, consistency, and self-trust.

We’ve been sold the idea that health has to do with how we look, but disease and dysfunction can come in all shapes and sizes. Health is multidimensional. Of course, it’s physical, but it's also relational, environmental, and spiritual. Healing means a return to wholeness, and that only happens when you honor every part of your humanity.

Health can’t be attained by following a list of rules and regulations written for you; you have to learn and develop the skills to become the leader of your life and take charge of your decisions. Nobody knows your life better than you do. You know when to rest instead of pushing harder, or when to choose a morning walk and fresh air over another 5 a.m. exercise bootcamp. This self-connection is what women’s health is truly about.

You are in relationship with everything—people, food, movement, and your environment. Holistic women’s health and healing begin with mending the most important relationship of all: the one you have with yourself. When you nurture that connection and reduce the stress that keeps you disconnected, you create space for the life you want.
