Light Has Dawned

From Water Ski Champion to Prison Ministry Trailblazer (w/ Kristi Overton Johnson)

What happens when God takes someone from a world stage… and calls them behind prison walls?

In this powerful episode, Omar sits down with Kristi Overton Johnson—former world-class water ski champion (80+ pro titles) and founder of Victorious Living Magazine / Victorious Living Ministries, to hear the God-story that changed everything.

Kristi shares about a supernatural moment of calling, the “HIT IT” message God gave her for men and women behind bars, and how simple obedience opened doors she could’ve never planned: from a magazine landing in the hands of the Florida Department of Corrections to being invited into prisons across the country.

Together, we talk about:

• Why prison ministry transforms both the inside and outside
• How trauma shapes lives - and how Jesus redeems what pain tried to ruin
• The importance of showing up consistently, listening, and loving people well
• Balancing passion for ministry with being present with Jesus
• How Kristi connected with JC Almanza and why unity in ministry matters

We close with a strong word of hope and a prayer for anyone who feels like they’ve “missed it” - because in Christ, it’s not over.

In this two-minute devotional, Omar Calvillo breaks down 1 Kings 3:7 and the heart posture that made Solomon a leader God could trust. Before asking for wisdom, Solomon begins with who God is, acknowledges who placed him in his position, and admits his dependence on the Lord.

This short teaching reminds us that true leadership starts with humility, surrender, and a teachable spirit.
LORD, make us servants You can trust.

In today’s From Wrong to Strong Two-Minute Devotional, Cisco Terrazas reminds us of one of the most powerful truths Jesus ever declared:

“I am the way and the truth and the life.
No one comes to the Father except through me.” — John 14:6

Jesus isn’t one of many paths—He is the path.
He is the bridge to the Father, the embodiment of truth, and the giver of real, abundant life.

In this short devotional, Cisco breaks down what Jesus meant when He said:

• “I Am the Way” - Only Christ can reconcile us to God.
• “I Am the Truth” - Every promise of God finds its fulfillment in Him.
• “I Am the Life” - He gives eternal life and fullness, joy, and purpose here on earth.

We are also reminded of Acts 4:12:
“Salvation is found in no one else.”

If you’re searching for direction, clarity, or meaning, this devotional points you to the answer found in Jesus alone. He is the Light of the World, the Savior, and the only One who leads us into true relationship with the Father.

In this special episode, I’m sharing my second sermon preached at New Life Community Church in Cicero—a message titled “The Gift of Being Present.”

Every year, December has a way of pulling us in every direction. The pressure, the pace, the expectations, the spending - sometimes the season meant to bring peace quietly becomes a season filled with pressure. And if we’re honest, many of us know what it feels like when the joy of Christmas gets drowned out by the noise of Christmas.

In this message, we walk through Matthew 13, Luke 10, and Matthew 25 to uncover how the “cares of this world” can choke out our spiritual life… and how Jesus invites us to something better: Presence over Pressure.

I share parts of my own story, the danger of crowded hearts, and how presence with Jesus always leads to compassion for “the least of these.”
From Angel Tree to prison ministry inside Cook County Jail, we look at what it means to be the hands and feet of Christ in a hurting world - especially during this season.

If you’ve felt stretched thin, overwhelmed, or spiritually distracted, this word is for you.

May this message encourage you to slow down, make room, and rediscover the beauty of being present with Jesus.

In this two-minute devotional, Nico walks us through Psalm 69 - one of King David’s most desperate cries for help. When the waters rise to his neck and the pit is about to close in, David shows us a powerful template for facing our own trials: humble yourself, cry out to God, trust His deliverance, and choose praise even in the darkest moments.
A short but impactful reminder that when life feels overwhelming, God remains our refuge, our strength, and our only true source of rescue.

Romans 15:30 — “Join Me in My Struggle”

In this 2-Minute Devotional, Omar Calvillo unpacks Paul’s heartfelt request for prayer in Romans 15:30 and shows why prayer is more than support - it’s partnership.

Paul reminds us that praying for someone is stepping into their battle with them. It’s locking arms, fighting side-by-side, and letting the Spirit unite us in love and purpose. Even strong believers need others holding them up.

Omar breaks down:

• Why intercession is active spiritual warfare
 • How the Spirit connects us when we pray
 • Why asking for prayer is wisdom, not weakness
 • How God uses community to lift us when we’re tired
 • Why victory is rarely individual—it’s communal

As From Wrong to Strong Ministries enters a new season of outreach and growth, Omar also invites listeners to keep the ministry lifted in prayer.

A powerful reminder that none of us were meant to fight alone.

In this powerful episode recorded at the Billy Graham Training Center in North Carolina, Omar Calvillo sits down with “Charlie the Chaplain,” a man whose testimony reads like a chapter straight out of the book of Acts.

Charlie shares how his life was radically changed inside a prison cell in 1992 - not through force, violence, or fear, but through the unexpected peace on the face of a young man facing the death penalty. What started as an attempt to beat someone up became the moment God broke through decades of anger, racism, and pain… and saved him.

Their story comes full circle decades later when Charlie finds himself baptizing the very man who led him to Christ - after 33 years on death row.

You’ll also hear:

• The life-changing impact of Kairos Prison Ministry
• How love, cookies, and handwritten letters soften the hardest hearts
• Miracles happening behind bars every single week
• The global reach of Kairos and how you can get involved
• A heartfelt prayer for those on death row and everyone listening

This is an episode about redemption, reconciliation, and the God who writes stories too perfect for fiction.

God Meets Us in the Middle of the Struggle

In this two-minute devotional, Cisco Terrazas shares a powerful reminder that even in seasons of pain, pressure, and uncertainty, God’s grace never leaves us. His strength shows up in our weakness, His mercies meet us every morning, and His purpose is at work even when life makes no sense.

Join us as we look at 2 Corinthians 12:9, Lamentations 3:22–23, and Romans 8:28 - scriptures that anchor us in the truth that God is with us, working behind the scenes, turning pain into purpose.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed or walking through a difficult chapter, this message is for you.

“Listen Before You Speak” — Proverbs 18:13

In this week’s 2-Minute Devotional, Omar challenges us with a simple but life-changing truth: wisdom begins with listening. Proverbs 18:13 and James 1:19 remind us that reacting before hearing the full story leads to unnecessary conflict, while listening opens the door to love, understanding, and guidance from the Holy Spirit.

Before you respond… pause, pray, and listen.

In this From Wrong to Strong Two-Minute Devotional, Omar Calvillo shares a powerful truth from Proverbs 17:17 — A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.
Real brotherhood isn’t proven when life is easy; it’s revealed in the fire. Behind bars, on the streets, or in everyday struggles, God uses adversity to expose who’s real and to turn rivals into brothers. Discover how faith, forgiveness, and brotherly love can break down walls that hate built and remind us that none of us were made to walk alone.
