A MUST READ for any business leader...

Such a well written book on the detail and skill that go into a huge sports event like the Super Bowl. All business leaders can learn from the evolution of a small home-grown host committee team that built a "pyramid" starting with no money, no people and no plan. They made it happen and gave the Bay Area the best, most giving, most shared and most exciting Super Bowl experience in the 50 years of SB history. Pat and Stephanie are two amazing leaders who knew how to choose a highly skilled team to make the magic happen.

Great story about the making of an iconic event with compelling anecdotes and insightful business advice. Enjoyed reading about the successes and failures of the team that brought the Super Bowl back to San Francisco. Enjoyable read which led me to reflect on how to apply the take aways from this team's experience to my own organization.

A Worthwhile Read

This was an easy read--I read the book in a day--and it was very insightful. Although the authors do miss some other viable opportunities for smart financial preparedness, their writing style and information was conveyed in a memorable form.

A lot of huffing and puffing. Little real info.

Quite frankly, the authors rant about how the "Kilionaires" (a term they seem to have coined and are intent on beating to the ground so that no one ever uses again) deliberately tanked the economy to gain the spoils for pennies on the dollar. It would have been nice if they provided ANY explanation or details as to how this was done. I know how it's done from reading better books (I recommend Murray Rothbard's work on the Fed), but if this were the only book I read on this, I would come away confused.

There is some worthwhile content in this book, but overall it's highly forgettable. Also, there is a whole chapter on Progressive vs. Traditional worldviews that boggles the mind with cliches and over-simplifications. The Traditional elite cares about the average American while the New Rich are so indoctrinated with Anti-American propaganda that they intentionally destroy it?? And the authors keep digging into that theme for the whole book. Absurd. Also, you can tell a lot about the author by his citations. They are very few in number (less than 140), and (at least) one of them is a conservative talk-radio personality. The writers seem to be begging us not to take them seriously.

What did you love best about Take Your Shot?

Take Your Shot, reminded me of one of my favorite business books E-Myth. It's packed with timeless business principles presented in such a way that is is memorable and actionable. There is so much in this 2-hour story.

What did you like best about this story?

The fact that it is a story. Most business books are hard to listen to and capture everything. Take Your Shot I believe is better on Audible, especially when read by the author Robin Waite who has a great narration.

What does Robin Waite bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?

The authors calm British accent was a pleasure to listen to. His personal recap at the end really allowed me to understand his heart and the next steps.

I listen to about a business book a week. I most highly recommend TAKE YOUR SHOT by Robin Waite.

Straight to the point...

Too few authors opt to teach through a relatable story. Robin has managed to create an engaging story, full of advice and methodology, whilst not having it read like just another self-help book... Let action commence!

Win Your Own High Stake Leadership Challenges With This Book

I want to acknowledge that I know Constance from professional circles that we both hang out in but that only created more excitement for me in reading High Stakes Leadership. Constance is a consummate and wise consultant whose significant experiences in high stake leadership situations has provided her with incredible knowledge and skills. In other words, I was really excited to get my hands on this book and could not put it down during a flight home this past week.

I particualarly like how Constance defines high stake situations and the required skills that a leader needs to succeed--Courage, Judgement and Fortitude. She keeps her message of leadership simple, not overcomplicating it with ideas that no one could ever put into play. Her examples are excellent and her ability to weave her own experiences (such as where she discusses her experiences with the space program) along with her professional and historical stories truly brings her teachings to life.

There are plenty of ideas and tools for leaders, their team members and others to use to help you win in today's everyday high stake leadership workplace.
