A great nod to Dickens work.
This ghostly little book was a great find. There aren't enough Christmas horror stories out there and this book set the bar for the rest of them.
The idea of girls trying to summon the three spirits from A Christmas Carol is a new spin on the Séance angle.
I loved how each girl was taken on their own journey to see their past, present, and future. I will definitely be reading this again before Christmas. If you're looking for a good Christmas horror story, look no further.

Horror movie starlet Clarissa Lee is beautiful, internationally known, and completely broke.
To cap off years of questionable financial and personal decisions, Clarissa accepts an invitation to participate in a "fully immersive" fan convention. She arrives at an off-season summer camp and finds what was supposed to be a quick buck has become a real-life slasher movie.
Deep in the woods of Kentucky with a supporting cast of B-level celebrities, Clarissa must fight to survive the deadly game that the con's organizers have rigged against her.
A demented, funny, bloody, and strangely poignant horror novel from the acclaimed author of Tribesmen, Zero Lives Remaining, and Mercy House.
    Members Reviews:
A hilariously twisted take on Fan Cons.
This book is a roller coaster funhouse ride basically satarizing the Fan Cons. It starts with Splattercore horror move director being kidnapped, and brought to a mysterious location, where he will set up the filming of an "immersive" horror Con. So immersive, the B list scream queen and several other b list horror actors will find out just how real the horror can get, as they are chased around by a huge man in a horror outfit and mask. The action takes a fast paced gory turn from there, with their lives truly on the line, and even the fan attendees getting in on the action. twisted, sad and funny by turns, the story grabs you and never lets you go.
Joe Hempel's narration is great as always, with his voicing of the aging scream queen and the main villain really standing out! He really brings the story and all its blood soaked glory to life.
I was voluntarily given a review audiobook copy for free by the narrator, author or publisher through Audiobookboom.
A new kind of horror con.
If you could sum up The Con Season in three words, what would they be?
    This could happen
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Con Season?
The blending of a horror con with a slasher movie.
What does Joe Hempel bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
Joe breaths life into Adam Ceasar's words.
Who was the most memorable character of The Con Season and why?
Keith Lumbra who gets caught up in something he never wanted to be a part of
    Any additional comments?
Keith Lumbra is a filmmaker, if you can call titles like Teenage Cumsluts in Torturland film. He's on his way back from a horror con where he was selling his wares when he gets pulled over by the cops, or at least he thinks they're cops.
Rory and Teeks are putting together a completely new form of con. Where, instead of having fans line up to get their pictures taken with their favorite horror actors, a limited number of fans, who pay top dollar, would get to interact with a select group of B through D list celebrities at a camp where a slasher is taking them out one by one.
On the surface, it sounds like a really cool idea, but believe me, the talent has no idea what they're in for.
It was tough writing that synopsis without dropping spoilers left and right. I've probably said to much as it is.
The writing in The Con Season is crisp and the pacing is excellent.

    Narrator: Morley Shulman
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 6 hrs and 37 mins
    Language: English

    Publisher's Summary:
What is your deepest, darkest fear? What makes you afraid to sleep with the lights off? Several fans were asked this very question and were asked to submit the ideas that most frightened them. These were then turned into stories featuring those fans. From a chilling case of a shadow man called "Preacher Black" and a road rage incident turned into something life threatening on a global scale to a tale of isolation like no other and a story in which every heartbeat could be the last, Fan Fears, the fourth short story collection by Michael Bray, follows in the footsteps of Dark Corners, Forgotten Fears, and Funhouse before it, explores those things that make us most afraid and brings them to life. Also includes four additional bonus stories and a foreword by extreme horror author Matt Shaw.

    Good stories, but almost returned..
Would you be willing to try another one of Morley Shulmans performances?
VERY BAD NARRATOR!! NO NO NO!
Let me continue my title-- "Good stories, but almost returned.. DUE TO ANNOYING NARRATION!"
These are some of the reasons why:
    1) narrates in a sing-song style most of the time
    2) grating screams when narrating character screams-- yes, I know certain characters do scream in the stories, but, a good narrator does not merely scream like a banshee on a mic, but rather narrates these with more emotion than simply grating screams
    3) each story has a "prologue" that briefly explains the story-- but this narrator does NOT pause accordingly to separate the "prologue" from the main story text. It's like:
This story is about the fear of water. (Main story)
    but it should be:
This story is about the fear of water. PAUSE HERE!!! (then proceed with main story).
    4) emotionless in most parts except for the aforementioned screaming which supposedly stands for emotion.
    5) AGAIN, ANNOYING SCREAMING!!
    Any additional comments?
Good book, good writer----- but narrator should go!

This is a great story just like all the others from Tim Miller. I recommended highly. Not for the faint of heart.

Even though it messed with me, I would have to say the daycare scene.
If you could take any character from Suicide Hotline out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Not for the Faint of Heart!
This is not my first Tim Miller story, nor will it be my last. As Mr. Miller points out in the beginning. It's his goal to entertain, repulse and horrify us.
    Has he achieved his goal?
Yes, he has horrified and repulsed me on more than one occasion. I keep coming back for more.
    My thoughts on Suicide Hotline...
    Wow! What a Concept!!
Well written, easy to follow, fast-paced, picturesque, and a wonderfully narrated audiobook. Certain parts of this story messed with me a bit, that is just a side effect of the horror genre.
The format of this book is a bit different than his other ones I have read/listened to. It's like a bunch of short stories combined into one book and I truly enjoyed the difference.
The narrator did an excellent job of portraying the different characters, I had no problems telling them apart. A true art form in itself. Great job Vincent Lane.
I was gifted an e-copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review. No renumeration was involved.
    Fantastically horrifying
What about Vincent Lanes performance did you like?
    Great range of voices.
    Any additional comments?
This is a collection of mini stories linked with an overall story. It is a unique concept and begins immediately by entering a place that most of us dont even know exists let alone find the courage to explore. The book begins on a dark note and continues on that theme but it is also surprisingly upbeat. Miller doesnt dwell on the darkness by insinuating whats out there and he doesnt embellish it with regular horror jargon, he simply tells the story in a simple factual way. This allows the reader to be entertained while also being shocked, stunned, and sickened to the perfect degree.
I particularly liked the way Miller builds levels of frustration within his characters and identifying with their problems makes their Suicide Hotline solution all the more horrifying.

    Members Reviews:
    Freaky!!
I have to say that I'm surprised with how much I ended up loving this and I think it was a combination of the authors imagination, enjoyable characters and narrator that made the book a 5 star read.
The plot of this was extremely fast paced and utterly freaky, but in a good way! ;) We start with seeing a homeless man going into an abandoned building with a book. This book has drawn him to this particular place in the hopes this man will unleash hell on earth. He has nothing to lose as he is at deaths door already. But before he can complete his ritual he is interrupted and ends up being rushed to the hospital. While there he knows he has very little time left and ends up doing the ritual in his hospital room. What he brings forth is something nightmarish and hungry.
Meanwhile, three friends working at the hospital at the time the homeless man comes in are in for the worst night of their lives!! Richard, Sandra and Dev think that the hospital can't get any worse than it already is, but when tentacles and other hideous things start appearing, they are the only ones able to figure out what is happening and why. Can they stop this evil from spreading??
This was a well written and quite entertaining read. We all probably have horror stories from hospitals but I think this one trumps them all!! This is a hospital that one won't return from and one where the bugs aren't on the inside, but are intent on killing you. We have some freaky ass stuff coming out of the woodwork, terrible tentacles, fatal fungi, disturbing dead people and other heinous things brought to this world by a cantankerous old man. This reminded me of one of those old horror movies that came on on a Sunday night or one of those Fright Night movies my parents watched. I could totally picture this as an episode of the twilight zone!! Lol.
Despite the gory and scary bits, there are moments of humour thrown in. The bond between the 3 friends was well done and I loved the banter between them. It's a fast paced, entertaining and scary read, perfect for Halloween ;) This is the first book I've read by this author but it won't be my last! I will definitely see what others, if any, he has written!! His imagination was astounding and totally fascinated me.

The Stranger is back with a thirst for blood, and a sick, twisted desire to kill, torture, and maim. If you thought book one was gruesome, you were sadly mistaken. Book two is a high-octane extreme horror thriller like you have not heard before. Very few boundaries were left untouched. The one question, can the Stranger be stopped finally?
    Members Reviews:
    fantastic story.
Book two is just as gory and action packed as book one. Mike came up with some new ways to kill people omg it was crazy good. I had to message him a few times and ask what was going through his head when he wrote it.
If you liked book one then you will love book two.
A great book to listen to
If you have not listen to this series yet you should it is great.
Narrator did a wonderful job telling the story and adding in emotions
    awesome sequel
This guy is way better and bloodier than Dexter, and he is back at it. This series is not for the faint at heart, it is only for the real horror lovers, as everything is fair game in the strangers world. If you read book one and wonder how in the world author Mike Evans could top his first book? Trust me, he did and by leaps and bounds.
I had the audio version narrated by S. W. Salzman and trust me I have never heard another audiobook like this, ever. Mr. Salzman does an awesome job bringing this book to life and giving it a pulse.
It makes you wonder can the stranger ever be stopped as you double check the locks on your windows and doors.
    Wow
This is even more intense than the first loved the reading of it. Strongly suggest get it if like edge of seat intense stories than this series is a must have
    Awesome book
This book was absolutely great from start to finish. I loved how the Stranger stayed one step ahead of everyone. Can't wait for the next book in this awesome series !!!
Creepy thriller similar to The Collector!
Would you consider the audio edition of The Stranger to be better than the print version?
I liked the audio a lot, but in all honesty I prefer my paperback just because I like holding actual books instead of tablets. Overall I enjoyed the Stranger.
Who was your favorite character and why?
I honestly didn't have a favorite character because they were all written pretty well, especially the Stranger himself!

    amazing book!!!
what a amazing book what I loved about it it's bunch of different stories every single one was amazing would recommend to anyone.. Stephen King is the best....
    A great collection of stories
I've really enjoyed this collection. As a 'constant reader' of Stephen King's I wanted some shorter stories to enjoy. Loved it. He creates mood and feeling. I especially enjoyed the stories read by him.
Exceptional selection of King at his best!
King is probably the weakest narrator, but still very good. The rest are fantastic.
Not all of the stories may be to your taste, personally I found the gunslinger story to be rather slow. But if you like anything of King's you'll find plenty to like in here!
    Mr king should not read!!!
Mr king is a brilliant author but a totally awful reader and completely spoiled this book for me

"Brother, do not try to follow me once you have read this. No good can come of it..." Following a stint at the Brentwell Rehabilitation Unit, failed architect and recovering alcoholic Simon is invited by an old school-friend to Abbot's Keep - a Tudor residence, nestled deep in remote Berkshire countryside. Soon after arriving, he is left to explore the neighboring monastery ruins and discover the house's dark history. But the more he learns, the more certain he becomes that he is not alone at Abbot's Keep, and that nothing is as it seems. But can he stop the house's medieval past repeating itself one final time? And can his brother find him before it's too late?

"Abbots Keep is refreshing a hell. Finally, a ghost story that reminds you why the basement is so terrifying!" (Brett McNeill of Rue Morgue Magazine)
"Ashforth does Edgar Allen Poe and Bram Stoker proud delivering a solid contribution to the literary movement. It is time that the ghost story made a comeback. With writers like Benedict Ashforth writing Abbots Keep, a revival just might be at hand." (Matthew J. Barbour of Horror Novel Reviews)
"A really entertaining read with a delightful frisson of fear." (Simon Ball of Horror Hothouse)
    Members Reviews:
    Much more build-up than payoff
Found this while idly browsing for a quick read, and loving a good ghost story I rolled the dice. Told in a series of expository letters, this tale takes a very long time to set up. While it eventually became obvious why the author chose this method of writing, I was never able to shake my impatience that people who are so close to each other need to write detailed explanations to each other of shared experiences - as in "You will remember when we went to Paris all those years ago . . ." and then explaining every detail of that shared memory. Obviously it's a device to fill in the backstory for the reader, but to me it was the equivalent of breaking the fourth wall in a play. Also, without giving spoilers, I couldn't buy into the one brother writing to the other brother during all of the stuff he was going through. For one thing, where the heck did he find to mail it? It's an odd story when the paranormal characters behave more understandably than the humans.
The final 3rd is where the creepy stuff starts, but as creepy as it is, somehow I just didn't feel it in my gut. Again, I felt at a distance the whole time. Perhaps it was the reading, because the narrator went over the top to the point of melodrama. Was always aware I was being read to as opposed to being immersed in the story. Can't recommend.
    Very disappointed
Started of really well but soon degenerated into fouls language and gore.
