Yay! A D&D story.

I like D&D, I like the fantastic, and the macabre - if need be. So does the author apparently.

Although I was unable to positively ascertain what the main character wanted of me - or expected to happen as a result of his actions, I really liked the story.

Spoilers-a fictional first person narrator writes to the reader from beyond the grave with the help of an infernal artifact-a pen. This being wants you [the reader] to murder HIS murderer. It is implied that by reading the story, you will be somehow compelled to do so.

If that's the case, I must've been sleeping when I did it because I've got no memory of killing a German in 1945...

Go with it. The literary device might be as cheap as advertised, but the story is short, tight, and possesses the exact right blend of mysterious elements.

Well writter, but a bit contrived

I liked, but did not get blown away by this short story. I thought it was well written, but somewhat forced, perhaps due to the length. Reminded me of an episode of Night Gallery, or Twilight Zone. Not in the same category as a masterwork by Poe, but a good read just the same. I'd be interested to see the author's later works as they have more experience, as well as longer stories where things can be fleshed out more.

Predictable

Predictable story narrated by the main character. Still okay and I read while having my first cup of coffee this morning.

Ghost Writer

Ghost Writer starts out with pulling the reader into the story through a plot device that feels cheap. The story progresses in a rather unimaginative and bland way until finally culminating with an ending that too many will feel contrived. The ending which the reader has been waiting for the whole story, falls flat, leaving the entire story feeling gimmicky. Ghost writer tries to be a great horror story, but definitely doesn't meet its goal. If the reader takes into consideration that this story is one of the author's earlier works some of the writings missteps can be explained, as it is though this story falls far below many of his subsequent works. It's an okay read but lacks a lot of originality.

Creepy

This short story begins with the unknown author asking for your help with vengenance against someone who has murdered his family and mentor. As you read on he explains that just reading the story to the end will be enough for him to be revenged altho how this is to happen is never explained only implied. If you didn't want to participate all you had to do was quit reading but once you started this story you felt compelled to finish it. This was a very unusual and original story however I did find it to be quite dark. Another reviewer had mentioned that they wished Underhill would expand this story into a novel and I tend to agree. I would love to know more about what happened before and after but then again it would take some of the mystery away which is one of the most intriguing aspects of it.

Like nothing else

I cannot review this book. I just don't know what to say. Imagine this, just imagine, that someone is talking to you, as intimately as imaginable. In a quiet voice, just to you, and telling you things which simply cannot be. Telling you things, in such honesty and candor that you want to look away. You believe him, or you want to believe him because he is so very candid, but these are things that are beyond you.Abner Cray talks to ghosts. All the time. And he, himself, doesn't know if he is alive or dead.

This is A Spider on My Tongue. I can't write this review . Because this is a book unlike any other. You don't read it, you hear it. It is absolutely there with you, speaking in that low voice in your ear. It is Abner Cray telling you what he has experienced, and how he's experienced it, and you believe it. Absolutely.

Maybe later I will be able to write a good review. To be objective and intelligent about it. At this point, I can't. Spider on My Tongue is an obsessive indulgence. Sometimes I don't even know what I'm reading. TM Wright has this amazing ability to turn the simplest things into enigmas. All I can say is that I love reading this, it is utterly engrossing and interesting and beautifully written.

This is not a good review, and I apologise for that, but this book is outside the normal frame of things. I am continually gob-smacked at Wright's writing. He is, without question, one of the best writers in the English language extant. And yet, what is he writing? Closest I can come is the works of David Lindsay. The words are simple enough, but the meaning is far deeper and more complex.

Maybe later I will be able to do a better review. For now, this is what I have.

Sophisticated Supernatural Horror

Novels by T. M. Wright are always a pleasure to read. He has a unique way of lulling the reader slowly into his grasp and then traps you in his madness where there's no turning back. This latest book is a bit more abstract than some of his other novels, but it remains fascinating nonetheless.

The objective of life is to pass time

This is Steve Vernon's first full length novel, if you consider six hours full length. Maybe it is wishful thinking, but I believe it shows promise. It is not quite there yet, but if you are looking to get in on the beginning of a promising career, this could be it.

Parts of it reminded me of Cormac McCarthy's Blood Meridian. Some of it reminded me of Joe Hill (son of Stephen King). Some of it reminded me of Peter Straub.

It starts out fairly exciting with a couple on a raft in the middle of a river going crazy. The raft falls apart and they are rescued or are they. All the characters in this story are flawed. There are no heroes. The story struggles from the lack of a plot, plan or quest. These characters need to be striving for something. The only one with a plan seems to be the evil tree, which SV gives no voice to. There are also lots of remembering the past by all characters and there are several drug like visions with ghosts, making it confusing to know exactly what is going on at times.

SV's prose is good and his premiss for a story is great, I believe this would have been a lot better if he would have given the tree a voice, let us know what it is planning, and if he would have explained how the tree became evil.

I don't think I have ever heard this narrator before and it sounded like he did this in his basement, it is a below average recording.

So this is only for those who want to get in on the ground floor of what might turn out to be the next Stephen King (only with teeth).

Slow,but kept me reading.

A story about who did what to who in a very not nice way . such as it is with a mystery/ thriller. There was no great need to get back to this book in breaks. No way did I wish I could read it in one sitting. Those days are becoming less and less frequent. So many authors pound out book after book due to pressure from "Everybody has a boss" ,or fear of losing fame. I wish the Author spent more time on the reasons the" boy star" was as he was. The "who done it" was pretty obvious to me. This could have been so much more if there was "less meat on the bone". Oh well,on to my next present under the tree.

a little gruesome but quite good

Hold on to your hats folks!

For You the Living, the first story and by far my favorite, really surprised me by the uniqueness and originality of a reinventing of the zombie genre. The zombies were not just undead mindless waking corpses, they somewhat autonomous with sexual pleasure the thing they were after. For You the Living was brutal, gory, and very graphic and a must listen to fans of zombie audiobooks. Orifices, Because was just a straight up and twisted serial killer horror. This is one of those stories that make you wonder about the sanity of the author and how in the hell did he come up with this. In the Shank of the Night completely bizarre twisted and graphic detective drama that I will not even try to describe any more, you need to experience to understand my shortness of words with this one. My only complaints are that

Nils Ilgresson expresses the exact voice and mannerisms that I expected for all three protagonists that have had the experiences depicted in this compilation. While the stories were great the narration made the entire audiobook experience even that much better. Ilgresson added little subtleties to the tone of his voice, breathing pattern that fit the characters perfectly.

Another great horror by my favorite author!

Brutal 2 by Joel M Andre is a sequel to his short story, Brutal. Joel is my favorite author and he writes a wide range of horror. As the title suggests, Brutal and Brutal 2 are definitely more serious horror and not really for the faint of heart. If you love a great horror story, as I do, these are both excellent.

In this particular story we meet a character named Ian, who has been a bit of a low-life, but he's about to meet up with someone far worse. Blinded by the promise of a fortune, he goes with his new friend to check out an old abandoned mine. From there things get a little dark and twisty.

I very highly recommend this book! The writing is superb, with a suspenseful story line that will hook you from the very start until the very end. You'll be on the edge of your seat completely engrossed in this short story! If you haven't read any of Joel's books yet, then I really urge you to check out his work! He is an extremely talented author!

This is a great second book to Brutal. One problem, I want more!!! Yes I am greedy! This was a great story and it has the reader begging for more!! Please Joel, more more!! :)

Over kill

Wasn't as thrilled with this story as was Brutal. It didn't have much of a plot or back story. Felt like it was scattered and hastly written.

CCCRREEEEPPPPYYYY GOOD!

Seriously? SERIOUSLY? He had to cut it off at 9 pages?! I WANT MORE! Yep, that's right. I want MORE of this creepiness, more of this horrific horror, murder, and all the other AWESOMENESS that make up this short story.

Joel brings us back to the center of Arizona, and back to see Charley Walker. *shivers* That guy is CREEPY! But, I LOVE it! Yeppers, I do! I love his character (no I'm not some crazy psycho....at least, I don't THINK I am (insert eviiiiillllll laugh here), just LOVE the way Joel created his character!) But, yea, anyway, back to my thoughts on this story.

Short, simple, and absolutely brutal!!! Ian Vasquez makes a horrible, horrible mistake. Charley Walker shows Ian just how terrible that mistake really was. Once again, I was in the twisted, hateful, vengeance seeking mind of Mr. Walker, and I became the horrified, pain filled Ian as I read on. GREATASTIC stuff! My tongue STILL hurts after reading this.

My tongue, you say? Well, I'll stop there and tell you that if you want to know why my tongue still hurts, grab a copy of this for your Kindle. Or, what every lucky device you use to read horrorific, creepy, twisted and absolutely BRUTAL stories on. It's another 5 Book worthy hit and I can't wait for the next installment (hint, hint, Mr. Joel M. Andre!).

I could not believe the story was written by anyone older than 15. Truly sophmoric and not even worth a buck. The 5 star reviews are bogus. I guess the saying anything for a buck is true. The writing misspellings and bad grammar are scarier than Charlies straight razor.
