It was a beautiful day for Kevin and Mary to look for their dream home. As they were walking happily through a New England subdivision, Kevin stumbled upon a two story mansion that took his breath away. Kevin tried to open the door, but it was locked. Mary repeatedly told him that since the door was locked maybe they should leave.
"This place has to be about two-hundred years old," Kevin said. He wasn't about to leave. Something was drawing him to this place. Kevin tried each window and finally found one that was open and told Mary to follow him inside. Mary refused since she thought they were trespassing. Kevin shrugged it off and climbed into the window. Just as he climbed in, dark clouds rolled in and rain came pouring down upon the house.

    Lovely little tale.
Matt Haig is a wonderful writer, this book is aimed at children and young adults but that doesn't mean it's not a thoroughly enjoyable read for all ages. Lovely descriptions of the city of York, makes me want to visit again!
    Chilly
Short story, sent shivers down my spine. Narration was also good. Enjoyed it a lot
    A good little bedtime story
Having done a few ghost walks this story brought a smile to my face. Wandering around in the cold and rain! Never had this experience though.
    Brilliant short story
Only 27 minutes long, so I bought this one rather that use a credit. A great listen, although rather predictable......good fun.
    A sweet little ghost story
I purchased this short story to feed my Matt Haig addiction. (After having read The Humans and The Radleys). Although this is essentially for children it is still a poignant and genuinely creepy tale that can be enjoyed by young and old alike. Perfect for winter listening.

    Narrator: Mike Vendetti
    Format: Unabridged
    Length: 8 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 06-01-12
    Publisher: Drac Von Stoller
Ratings: 1 of 5 out of 1 votes
    Genres: Fiction, Horror
    Publisher's Summary:
There stood atop a desolated hilltop, a funeral parlor by the name of Sunny Hills Funeral Parlor, with some terrifying tales from the dead. Jeramiah Hill, the owner of Sunny Hills Funeral Parlor, would invite some of his closest friends in town to come and hear how people that were brought to his funeral parlor died. Sunny Hills Funeral Parlor was built in 1816 by the Hills family. Soon after construction was complete on the funeral parlor bad things started happening. One of the Hill's brothers got into a fight with the other brother over a girl, and in a jealous rage Jim Hill fell out of the two story window in the funeral parlor to his death. Since there were no witnesses, Jim's death was declared an accident. Just weeks after Jim's death, his brother Daryl was found dead in one of the coffins in the funeral parlor. Daryl's father Jeramiah told the lawmen that from the look on his son's face he was frightened to death. Just as if he saw something so terrible he thought hiding in the coffin would keep him safe.
After Jeramiah's bizarre death in 1825, the funeral parlor was sold to the Jasperson family which prospered until 1860. One by one the Jasperson's either died of unexplained circumstances or by natural causes.

Was this narrated by Bela Lagosi??
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Really, what is up with this guy's voice? Did he have to go for the over the top, comically scary voice? Honestly, I kept giggling, so I have no idea if this was a scary story. Horror fiction should be told in a sane and honest voice, to pull you in, to lead you to think "gee, that character sounds like me. They are doing what I would do in this situation." Then when it all goes wrong, you get scared. Because you would also be doomed. The only use I can see for this story, is for it to be played as background noise at your next Halloween party. "MAHHhha!," she laughed in a super creepy voice.
What could Drac Von Stoller have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
    Change every thing.

    Publisher's Summary:
Leon flies a crop duster. He also drinks a bit, and so he figures he'd better find a place outside of town to take off and land, just to avoid investigations. He stumbles across an abandoned government airfield deep in the Great Dismal Swamp, not far from Old Mill, North Carolina. He also discovers a lot of barrels filled with something - and being the paranoid type - eventually he starts to worry they'll find him with those barrels, and it will be trouble.
He decides to get rid of it by "dusting" it over the local fields. Who will know? The problem is - the chemicals in that barrel have some interesting effects on people. They start to eat at Leon's already troubled mind, and - since Leon accidentally sprayed them over the local marijuana crop, they start to eat at a lot of other minds as well.
The timing proves fateful for Jess, who just wants to get away from the tired, country life of Old Mill, NC and his tired old friends, like Teeter, who can't stand still, but bobs back and forth like a metronome. Only Mabel seems worth saving - the question is, will the two of them survive the night?

    Disappointed
What would have made 'Scuse Me While I Kiss the Sky better?
I enjoy short stories. I did not really enjoy this one. I'm just glad I didn't spend much for it. The story went nowhere and then didn't pay off in the end.

    dumb
You know, I am sooo glad this was free because it is the stupidest book I think I've ever read. It's more like a pamphlet not a book since it's only a few pages long. Nothing gross in my book and wish it wasn't even written.
    Don't waste your precious time
If this book was written by a child, it would be okay--though I might worry about how the kid is being raised. However, if an adult wrote it I weep for the state of literature in cyberspace.
If it was written by a child, I apologize for the harshness of my review. In that case, I encourage the author to keep writing.
    Deathmas Day Book Review
Not impressed by this book. Kinda disappointed that I wasted my time downloading it & reading actually. It's very unoriginal & the writing was at an elementary level at best. I just kept hoping it would get better as I read it, however it didn't. Save yourself the trouble and don't waste your time on this one...
    not my halloween book
This was not what I thought. Dry reading lost my interested very fast. I thought it would be more on the Decoration side of Halloween.
    Didn't like the book.

Johnny was a little weird because during the embalming process, he would sit beside the cold slab the body was lying on, and as he was inserting the hose into the deceased body to drain their blood, he would read stories to them and talk to them as though they were still alive.

    Needs a little something.....
This was so incredibly short that I can't even describe it without giving the whole thing away. It was more like a story some kids would tell each other around a camp fire at night. 12 year old kids. With brain damage. Who had never told a story before in their lives. Or even heard one.
    Cemetery.
Seems as if Simple Simon wrote this one. It was only a couple pages long, but I must have read the characters name, Johnny about 20 time. Such a short story, but it read like forever.
    Cemetery of the Living Dead
I wasn't impressed with this extremely short story. It needs to delve into Johnnys history a little more, and the story definitely needs to be alot longer.
    another bomb!
I have read a few of this author's books and they have all been horrible! Pointless, rambling, and just plain blah!! Is this a third grader??However,I guess this story was not as awful as the others.....but that still is not saying much!
    Not Very Good
Poor concept, poorly written, very short, and contains a bunch of copied ideas not very well put together. I hope the author does not get discouraged and continues to refine his craft.

Local farmers would drive for miles just to get in on Johnny's secret, but Johnny wasn't about to give up his secret to no one. Jealousy and lust tore the family apart and Johnny's meat clever wasn't forgiving. If you know what I mean.
