    Great book, Monotone narration.
The books had much to offer with tons of valuable data from real life business exposure. The only negative was the monotone narration that required me to take several breaks to complete entire audiobook. If you can tough it through its invaluable.
    excellent content
Common sense can't be better well said. Drucker is a master teacher, learning from the best.

Starting out at GE, where he headed up the company's leadership institute and revamped the leadership pipeline under Jack Welch, Noel Tichy has served as a trusted advisor on management succession to such leading companies as Royal Dutch Shell, Nokia, Intel, Ford, Mercedes-Benz, Merck, and Caterpillar.
Now Tichy draws on decades of hands-on experience working with CEOs and boards to provide a framework for building a smart, effective transition pipeline, whether for a multi-billion dollar conglomerate, a family business, a small start-up, or a non-profit.
Through revealing case studies like Hewlett Packard, IBM, Yahoo, P&G, Intel, and J.C. Penney, he examines why some companies fail and others succeed in training and sustaining the next generation of senior leaders. He highlights the common mistakes that can generate embarrassing headlines and may even call an organization's survival into question, and reveals the best practices of those who got it right. Tichy also positions leadership talent development and succession where they belong: at the top of every leader's agenda.

    Advertisement not a book
One big long resume of the author. Full of name dropping and things he did but no take-aways. He tells you what he did over the last 40+ years but it is lacking in "how's" that can be applied to anywhere else. Painful and boring. I suffered through to the ending hoping for a good summary - disappointed.
    Compelling- spot-on (as usual)
    Dr. Tichy
Succession is relevant, timely and spot-on regarding preparing for the impending baby boomer retirements.
My suggestion- listen twice; there is extensive info to consider.

    Critic Reviews:
"To remain competitive in todays global marketplace, GE must benchmark itself against the best run companies in the world. Samsung is one of these companies. This insightful book outlines Samsungs formula for success and is an important read for any executive or leader who wishes to implement a similar plan in their own organization." (Jeff Immelt, Chairman and CEO of GE)
"If I were to be asked about how Samsung Electronics became successful, I would confidently recommend The Samsung Way in lieu of a response. As CEO of Samsung Electronics, I am still amazed by the insightful analyses and explanations given here. This book led me to reconsider the direction of Samsungs future strategy." (Oh-Hyun Kwon, Vice-Chairman and CEO of Samsung Electronics)
"A firsthand glimpse of how an unlikely laggard in emerging economies became a global power to be reckoned with. This informed, readable book will help you understand what management innovation is really all about."(Rita McGrath, Professor, Columbia Business School, and author of The End of Competitive Advantage)

    worst there is
Nothing as takeaways.. the book says the name Samsung thousands of times throughout the book which is quite irritating . . no cohesive story.. instead of mentioning the failure of Samsung cars, they could have fully covered that as its main subject it would have been more useful!
Interesting topic, ok-ish content, could be better
Is there anything you would change about this book?
The book is dealing with different stages of Samsung. Unfortunately repetition is a bit too much. Once getting to the end you get the feeling of have I not heard this before over and over again?
Has The Samsung Way turned you off from other books in this genre?
    No
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
I do like the topic and history.

  • The Idea-Driven Organization Audiobook by Alan G. Robinson, Dean M. Schroeder

    Title: The Idea-Driven Organization
Subtitle: Unlocking the Power in Bottom-Up Ideas
Author: Alan G. Robinson, Dean M. Schroeder
    Narrator: Walter Dixon
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 5 hrs and 29 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 08-06-14
    Publisher: Berrett-Koehler Publishers
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 22 votes
    Genres: Business, Leadership
    Publisher's Summary:
Most companies, if they solicit employee ideas at all, essentially just set up a suggestion box, which employees know from experience is where ideas go to die. So nothing happens. But innovation is not an option - it's the key to survival. And innovation needs new ideas.
So where are those ideas going to come from? Using numerous examples, Robinson and Schroeder argue that the employees who interact directly with your customers, make your products, and provide your services are in the best position to see where problems exist and what improvements and new offerings would have the most impact.
Robinson and Schroeder explain how leaders can build the kind of idea-driven company capable of implementing 50 to a 100 or more ideas per employee per year. Drawing on their work with companies worldwide, they show what's needed to put together a management team open to grassroots innovation and describe the strategies, policies, and practices that encourage - and those that discourage - employee ideas. They detail exactly how high-performing idea processes work and how to design one customized for your organization - including advice for teaching people how to come up with new ideas. The best ideas may come from the bottom, but they have to be systematically solicited from the top.

    Great ideas to think about
This book has some great ideas. I wish it had gone into more detail about the specifics for implementing them.
Decent book, but not a big fan of the narrator
The content of the book is ok (worth a monthly credit). Not much to take away from it compare to other books in the same category. Not a big fan of the narrator. His voice is a bit too flat and slightly too quickly which is difficult to follow. I lost the main plot many times as he rarely emphasise on the main idea.

good ropa... it got straight to the point
it was good it helped me to get lot of ideas for my company and what I liked the most it was the price..
    VERY basic
This was so basic, that I think it actually harms the authors reputation rather than enhances it.
The information was organized well, which is the only reason this got two stars instead of one.
    extremely basic information!
I have zero HR experience and I still found this book to be extremely basic and full of common sense.

Lead your business the Starbucks way.
Foreword by Herve Humler, President and COO, The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, L.L.C.
One of the best-recognized and admired brands in the world, Starbucks singlehandedly transformed the ordinary delivery of coffee into a cultural phenomenon - a result of the companys exemplary leadership practices.
Joseph Michelli, author of the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, and Businessweek best seller The Starbucks Experience, explains that the international success of Starbucks begins with a promise: To inspire and nurture the human spirit - one person, one cup, and one neighborhood at a time. Michelli offers a perspective on the leadership principles that drove the iconic coffee companys resurgence from serious setbacks during the economic downturn - one of the few true turnaround stories of this time. And the company continues to grow dramatically, entering new markets and channels with fresh products and technologies.
In Leading the Starbucks Way, Michelli establishes five actionable principles that fuel long-term global sustainability at Starbucks and that can be used in any company, in any industry:
Leading the Starbucks Way is a penetrating look at the inner workings of one of todays most successful brands. The company gave Michelli one-on-one access to a variety of employees (called partners) to write this book - from baristas to senior leaders, including Howard Schultz, chairman, president, and chief executive officer.
In short, success is all about loving your product, loving your customers, and loving your employees. Sincerely. Without fail. Even in the face of business challenges.

This is a promotion for Starbucks
Would you try another book from Joseph A. Michelli and/or Joseph A. Michelli and Tom Parks ?
Im going to try the first one - as that was the one I meant to buy
The customer pays for hearing publicity
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
It had some interesting things but all in all it sounded like they were selling me on buying Starbucks and not explaining how to imitate.
Would you ever listen to anything by Joseph A. Michelli again?
    Not sure
What about Joseph A. Michelli and Tom Parks s performance did you like?
    A lot of examples
Could you see Leading the Starbucks Way being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
    No way!
