The first Cynster novel

The first of the "Cynster" novels starts off with Honoria Wetherby, whoâs independently wealthy but who has been pursuing a career as a âfinishing governessâ (preparing select young women of the ton for their presentation and Season) until she gets full control of her fortune at age 25, finding a badly wounded young man by the roadside on her way from church to the home of her latest employer. She does what she can for him, and then along comes Sylvester âDevilâ Cynster, Duke of St. Ives, who recognizes the victim as his cousin âTolly.â With Honoriaâs help he gets him to a woodsmanâs cottage nearby, but their efforts to help him are futile and he dies without saying anything pertinent. Sylvester is immediately struck by Honoriaâs competence and intelligence, not to mention her beauty, and determines that this is the woman he wants to marry. But she resists; sheâs resolved to live a single life and to emulate Lady Stanhope by traveling to exotic places, especially Africa. The story plays out following the two intertwined threads of trying to solve the mystery of Tollyâs murder and persuading Honoria to marry him. The mystery aspect isnât very mysterious to the readerâat least, it wasnât to meâbut how to settle the killerâs hash is more interesting. Pretty typical of the series otherwise (or maybe I should just say the series continues in the same vein?).

I have read this book many times. First in paperback and then got it for my kindle. Stephanie Laurens does not disappoint. The whole premise of the story is awesome. Devil has met h s match in Honoria. They meet over Tolly's body. She found him (Tolly) after he was shot. She tries to stop the bleeding but cannot. Devil rides onto the scene and is horrified that someone has hurt a member of his family. Finding Honoria there, they takee Tolly to the Keenan's cottage. Where they try to make Tolly comfortable. Devil has seen death before and knows that Tolly will not make it. They spend the night in the cottage while a storm rages outside. Honoria's own demons are in the storm that makes her sleepwalk. Devil catches her before she can hurt herself. In the morning. they are seen by the Claypole's who Hornoria was staying with. Push comes to shove and Honoria is brought to the Place where she meets Devil's mother. She stays with the Dowager (even though Devil is not married, Yet.) The family gathers for Tolly's funeral. Honoria is seen to take charge of a few "emergencies". And while the story that a 'highwayman" was the one who shot Tolly, Honoria does not believe it for a second. She wants to help with finding the killer and of course, Devil does not want her to. He has stated that she would be his bride. She says no. Push comes to shove and of course, they do marry.

Not worth a credit

I never expected to dislike a Jill Mansell book. However, I was disappointed in this book. The main character, Suzy, was not a likeable person. She was self centred insincere and immature. The book was totally ridiculous.

I kept going back trying to get into it but gave up nobody would be as stupid as Suzie. I just can't finish it. It must be very old book republished as her later books are great she is one my favourite authors and I have most of Jill Mansells books.

Look a gift horse in the mouth , mistake .

A very amusing and entertaining story with good alongside story lines. It made me laugh in quite s few places and its definitely worth the rating given

Don't settle...

"Just One of the Guys" is my second Kristan Higgins book, afterThe Best Man. I enjoyed the first immensely and liked this second offering even more.

It helps that I used to be six foot tall (I've lost a couple of inches over the years) and I was always one of the guys. I felt like parts of this book could have been written about my life.

And I think that is a major talent of Higgins - she draws you in and let's you live in her books.

I laughed, I cried, I cursed. I loved the female protagonist of the story, Chastity O'Neill. I thought her love interest was yummy, if a trifle dense. I loved her ugly dog, Buttercup. I loved that she is a strong, healthy woman who has size eleven feet and is nowhere near a size six dress size.

Her family is boisterous, large, has problems but loves each other. I wonder whether they'd be interested in adopting me?

If you want to read an emotional roller coaster of a book, try this one.

I really wanted to love it

Okay I love the premise of the book. Tomboyish, ahletic amazon woman loves best friend. First off, this book did not have to be as long as it was. I mean a good 1/3 of it could be cut out and not loose any of the real story. I like how Higgins does the flashbacks and shows how the couple meet. However, since the book was entirely in first person, it would have been nice to get some of Trevor's (the H's) feelings and thoughts too. I mean seriously, they do not get together until like around 85% of the book is over. There was more about the family and the brother & parents marital problems than about the H and h.

Truthfully, after the first half of the book, I kept wanting to scream MAN UP! It was obvious how they both felt even though the H's feelings were more subtle since we never got to see any of his feelings until the very end. It would have been even better if something had been leaked earlier about why the H never got married. It just all seemed to drag.

I will say that there was some realism in the end because the family's problems do not get tied up in a neat little bow (well they are tied up in a bow, just not in the exactly happily ever after way). I like how Higgins showed that sometimes couples just grow apart and things cannot be fixed.

Overall, a decent read, but way too long and honestly not worth the price imho.

I adore this book! Like hands down adore this book! This was the first book of Kristan Higgins that I have read, and I have to admit that I am totally, without a doubt hooked on her work. I think I've read like six of her books since reading this one. I love romance books where people are best friends, especially ones where one of the friends is carrying a torch for the other one.

I loved it didn't want it to end. I know want rest of series on audio books to find out what happens to all the charcters. The narrator is just brilliant. Highly recomend !

A Great 'Godly' Romance

This story is good but it should be posted as historical Christian romance for that is what it is. It's fairly well told and a tad Jane Austen-esk.

Lovers of historical romance should like it. It's by no means a bodacious ripper but rather a less subtly hidden Christian Romance. The Bible stuff is a tad over the top, but there you have it.

Unfortunately the audiobooks is ruined in some spots by hearing the typing of keys on a computer, other mild background noise, a few character voicing errors and the like.

A basic audiobook.

A reasonable romance.

Definitely to bible bashy for my likings.

The story itself has great potential with hidden rooms, mysterious strangers and a secret past. Everybody becomes a treasure hunter.

Wonderful

Such a wonderful story, being a flower shop owner was what interested me in the book.

I enjoyed the book immensely but was so disappointed with the ending, it felt like such a sharp close, almost,like a group of friends suddenly turn their backs on you and close you put of the group.

The characters were wonderful and the emotions expressed throughout were deeply touching.

The narrator read beautifully it was a joy to listen to her, very soothing and expressive.

I would certainly listen to more books by both the author and the narrator.

A really nice sweet book

If you're in the mood for a light and fluffy romantic book then this is the one for you! I really enjoyed listening to this and by the end was invested in and loved the characters! Don't get this if you're expecting a extravagantly written book - just enjoy it for what it is

Wonderful Story

This novel is not my usual genre of fiction to read, however, when visiting a country rodeo and waiting in a shop I read the back summary and being in the country mood, I thought I would give it a try. I was not disappointed.

The book is pigeon holed as a Drama/Romance. It does not fall into the usual category for romance, which I think is why many are disappointed. Romantic novels are often love at first sight and burning desires of the characters and they are in bed before they know it. This book has none of that so if you are looking for that, best move on to the erotic section.

What this book is though is a beautiful and relaxing story. Which is why many of us read in the first place. We read to escape and immerse ourselves into another world of others lives. This is what this book does. It is not a high stakes drama, or erotic romance, instead it is a pleasant story, that moves along smoothly. It is so well written that even though it is not a high paced story it keeps you up at night wanting to read the next chapter.

The story of a city girl leaving the city life behind, and slowly falling in love with the country and the people. The best way to describe the book is a beautiful relaxing story that will emotionally touch you, with the wonderful ending.

I highly recommend it.

Love Therese's fresh and unique way of writing about Australian life in the Bush.

Therese Creed writes a story that any Australian would recognize the characters and situations as some of their very own. It's a pleasure to read and the story just slips along smoothly. I love also the way the children are so totally Aussie country kids, good capable little people and straight forward. Lots of funny situations where you will find yourself having a Good laugh. I have read and love both of Therese's books and hope she can write many more. Soon. .....

Insightful and romantic

Solid 4/5, and a great improvement on Redstone Station. This book is gentle and tenacious; the emotion is poignant and relatable, especially if you have some experience of rural life. Political undertones, but as I agree, I didn't mind that!

Therese has carefully woven the plot, characters of " Charlotte's Creek, to be a gripping story that is difficult to put down. I really enjoyed this book and will be waiting for Therese's next one. A must read. Rated 10 / 10.Really shows the trials of living in a remote area.
