Christmas Stories for the Heart Review

My daughter read this book selection and she said the stories are nice for when your taking a break and resting with a warm cup of coffee. The stories are short in length, so you can read more than one as you rest

Everyone Should Read This Book-Awesome

This is an awesome book. I haven't finished it yet, but feel confident that I will enjoy every story. What a keepsake. I am reading it with my 10 year old granddaughter afterschool. Some of the stories I have read before and am glad to find them again. I think some are true which even adds to the wonderfulness. I bought it used, but it looks brand new. Because of our enjoyment of these stories, I am thinking of getting a keepsake nativity set for her Christmas present this year. Thank you Alice Gray for such an uplifting book.

Cincinnati, OH

The family really enjoys these stories and have been blessed by them so much that we have ordered copies for friends.

Where does Fantasy Football Romance - Box Set: Seasons 1-4 rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?

What did you like best about this story?

Samantha was my favorite character in this story.

Any additional comments?

A Second Chance At Love: Football Style

If you could sum up Fantasy Football Romance - Box Set: Seasons 1-4 in three words, what would they be?

Chicklit Sports Romance

What was one of the most memorable moments of Fantasy Football Romance - Box Set: Seasons 1-4?

When Gabby meets her father Billy!

Which scene was your favorite?

The prenuptial agreement! Was both really funny and showed the true character of Liam :)

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The proposal in the last book. It was perfect and poignant :)

Any additional comments?

This is a fun chicklit series that centers around a professional football team and second chances both at love and at life. The characters are likeable and relatable as well as believable. There is plenty of humor and a lot of steamy love scenes to keep any contemporary romance lover happy! I really enjoyed the listening experience and hope the author finds a reason to continue the series as I am not quite ready to leave this world yet. Each book has its own HEA,

***This series is suitable for adult readers who enjoy chicklit steamy sports romances with a HEA and a good dose of humor :)

Light, fun and sexy football rom series!

Enjoyable series :-) I enjoy the author's insider knowledge of football and the sense of humor she puts into her characters. Just the right amount of conflict, nicely written sex scenes (hot but never crude) and interesting, entertaining characters.

Hot sports romances!

--I was given a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

I love Liz Matis. This box set of 4 stories just solidifies my love of her stories. Fantasy Football gives us 4 different women and their journey to their relationship with the man of their dreams. Little did they know that each one would choose a man that is a football player for the Detroit Cougars. Each strong woman has their own story. I especially loved Hannah and Jake. Something about them finding each other and making their relationship work with their two very demanding careers had me routing for them from the first book in this series. I was glad this was book two so I didn't have to wait too long.

If you enjoy sport romances, this is for you. Romance, a little suspense, hot sex and gorgeous men...you will love it.

Christine Padovan delivers another great performance.

Unsuited narrator

This narrator wasn't suited to this story. Very hard to get into the story when it is so jarring, as well as many mispronounced words.

Wouldn't be bad if the narration was good!

I'm only about halfway through this book, and I normally don't review at all, but there's something that's really irritating me. This is a book, written by an English author, and set in England, so why have they chosen an American narrator who can't even take the time to check how the British English words are pronounced?! Come on! Surely that's a rather big thing to overlook, especially in cases where mispronouncing the word actually changes it's meaning entirely!! I also don't understand why some English words have been substituted with their American English counterparts, i.e trousers for pants etc. To be honest this narrator really doesn't work for this book and the editor just doesn't work!!

Loved it

Great book

One Star

Didn't like at all

Disappointing

I read this book of stories because I really loved Butler's "Hearts of Men," one of th best books of the year. But, these stories lack the very "heart" that makes the, novel so great. They mine ground which simply has done better -- whether it's Andre Dubus, Raymond Carved, Bonnie Campbell etc. Some of the stories are almost good, e.g. the title story, "Morels," a B.P. spill revenge story, a sexual abuse-Alzheimer's saga, but none of these stories approaches the nuance and sense of redemption found in Butler's recent novel. Not the worst book of short stories ever written, just disappointing.

An Extraordinary Collection of Short Stories ...

Ten short stories make up the body of Nicholas Butlerâs book, âBeneath the Bonfireâ. Each one is set in Wisconsin, each one has a dark, emotionally draining tone, and each story deals, in some way, with a loss. That loss may be one of lost love, lost memory, loss of trust, or lost friendship. In some stories, the main character is the cause of the loss. In others, another individual or individuals, who play a significant role in the primary characterâs life, precipitates the loss. In only a few of the stories does the main character experience a positive outcome or a personal epiphany.

In each of Nicholas Butlerâs stories, the characterization is extremely strong. Whether the individual is passive, violent, or psychologically fragile, the character becomes real. As a reader, you may begin to empathize with, become frustrated by, or become angry about the way in which characters react or fail to react to the actions of others. Further, Nicholas Butlerâs ability to pull the reader into the charactersâ lives is extraordinary. Without consciously doing so, the reader feels the tension the character feels, experiences their fear as well as their hope for a different outcome, and yet knows that the course of the story is beyond the characterâs control.

As a reader, you will find each of the stories comprising âBeneath the Bonfireâ as good as, if not better than, the story preceding it. Each can be read without reading the previous story, thus you need not read this book in one sitting. However, the quality of Nicholas Butlerâs writing is so good that you will discover you cannot stop reading and will find yourself finishing âBeneath the Bonfireâ in one sitting.

A MUST READ -

BENEATH THE BONFIRE

I am Nickolas Butler's number one fan. Seriously. This guy can write.

WONDERFULLY WRITTEN AND READ!

If you could sum up 'Tis Herself in three words, what would they be?

Great story collection!

What did you like best about this story?

I loved all the short stories, it takes real talent to tell a good story in a short amount of time...

Which scene was your favorite?

I liked them all, but I really liked the wife and husband who had been married forever and she just lived her on life because her husband was never there for her...

Any additional comments?

** I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review **

ALL of these stories are wonderfully read and narrated, a sneak peak into everyday life of ordinary people...the secrets we keep and hopes we have...it was wonderful!

Thank You Audiobookblast(dot)com

Short and sweet

Would you listen to 'Tis Herself again? Why?

Yes, in a couple of months. Bite sized audio can get me through the day. Listened to this because I enjoyed previous audio by same author/narrator

Short Story Collection of Everyday Life

'TIS HERSELF was a collection of short stories about family situations that many people find themselves in, in everyday life. This was an easy to listen to audiobook albeit rather bland. One story had a funny scene when she threw out his (Bob's) fishing gear to make more room.

I didn't really laugh or cry, but I found this to be a relaxing book. There was nothing heavy. I think it was a good collection of family issues though. I'd listen to more audiobook by VALERIE ALLEN.

SHEILA CAVALETTE did a fine job narrating these stories. She had a nice tone with good voice inflections. I'd also listen to more from her in the future.

Audiobook received in exchange for an honest review from audiobookblast dot com

Short Stories That Most Can Relate To

This is a really eclectic group of stories told from the perspective of a town. As I have lived in a small town most of my life, I found myself able to relate to the publisher's description "the small and the not so small events in the lives of ordinary people."

The book contains every day events, like a parent caring for the pet that the child HAD TO HAVE [promising to care for every aspect] if they would just let him get him.

Another is the story of the a drunken husband who gets another woman (not his wife) pregnant and so on funny, serious, tragic This book has them all.

The narration was perfect for the material. Sheila Cavalette is a professional.

This is not a book I would normally experience. *I received it in exchange for my review. Others may enjoy this immensely as it is well written & performed. However, my current interest is with fictitious novels and not short stories.

Notes: nothing to warn about regarding language or themes.

I appreciate you reading my review.

A Must Read to better appreciate Jeff & Richard

A Must read to find out the back story behind Jeff's and Richard's young lives and their living together when Jeff was a teenager, and beyond.

The funniest part was the prank Jeff pulled on Richard's grandmother when she barged into Jeff's room without knocking.

Steven Barnett does an excellent job narrating this and all of L L. Bartlett ' s books!

brothers

Any additional comments?

There are several short stories that flow from one to another. This is the backstory of Jeff and his brother Richard. We see their first meeting together an the guilt and disappointment they felt for each other.

These are not happy, fun stories but a look into what shapes two men....all the lost little opportunities they had, the misunderstandings...really everyday life and how that shapes all of us.

I said these weren't happy stories, at the same time their not depressing...just a look at real life and all its consequences. Now I feel like I understand the characters better and i even felt their pain.

Interesting stories. The narrator is terrific and really highlighted each character.

I'll want to read and listen to more stories by this author/.

Loved this book!

I am a fan of the Jeff Resnick novels so finding out more about the characters was not only enlightening but very entertaining. I was once again impressed with the quality of the writing and how Ms. Bartlett draws you in with her story or, in this case, stories. The narrator, Steven Barnett, was excellent as well.

It always amazes me that this is the same author who writes The Booktown Mystery series, another series I love, because they are so different. There is a darkness and depth to these stories that you do not see often in a mystery series. Keep up the great work. I don't know what I would do without your novels.

A great listen

I found this book to be rather engaging and couldn't stop listening until I was done! I enjoy the characters in the series so listening to their backstory held my interest. The narrator also did a great job. Overall, I would recommend this book!

Family History

Would you listen to Evolution again? Why?

Yes, Steven Barnett brought the story to life.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Evolution?

When Jeff mooned Richards grandmother, just made me laugh out loud.

Which character as performed by Steven Barnett was your favorite?

Jeff Resnick

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Family is important

Any additional comments?

Steven Barnett is an incredible reader! He brings the story to life and makes you feel like you are part of it.

Length: 57 mins

Language: English

Release date: 02-13-15

Publisher: Livro Falante

Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 7 votes

Genres: Fiction, Short Stories & Anthologies

Publisher's Summary:
