711 Press is a company with a unique twist on publishing: We release "movies & TV in book form". Listen to our thrilling, cinematic titles in the time it takes you to watch a movie or TV show.
Feral is part of a sci-fi/horror series in our Movie Book line.
Decades after what become known as the "Final Cataclysm", the few human survivors attempted to rebuild a world left in ruins by biological and nuclear warfare. Unfortunately, the effects of the biological weapon, which was based on a feline virus, genetically altered most surviving humans, resulting in two types of mutated creatures: the ferals - rage-infested, bloodthirsty monsters that are half human, half cat, and rabid for flesh - and werecats - humans who possess the ability to transform into a cat-like creature at will.
Seventeen-year-old Pippa Reyes, who discovers that she is a werecat, believes that her only chance of survival is to escape New York and travel across the barren lands of the United States to reach a safehold for her kind. With the aid of her friends, Aiden and Abby Hunter, the three teens head west, across a nearly destroyed terrain infested with ferals attempting to snatch their lives at every turn.

    Werecats, Ferals and Gatoroids...OH MY!
What a rush this first book was. In a time, not far off from now, humans are nearly extinct and what inhabits the planet is dangerous. Werecats of different types, ferals (which, if you've ever met a feral cat, you will know how vicious they can be), humans, gatoroids and an unknown amount of hybrids.
Pippa is traveling with her sister, in the hopes of reaching their mother's home land where her kind could be safe. Starting in New York, the trip will take them clear across the country where danger lurks in just about every location they come to. A man named Alexander, who has a lot to lose, ferals and other creatures stalk them from location to location.
I look forward to book two, hoping that the girls and their companions are able to make it across country. Book one ends on a sad note, and I look forward to seeing things hopefully get better for Pippa...despite the unknown dangers ahead.
    Television On Your Kindle!
Once upon a time there were these magazines/books called pulps, printed on cheap paper, stories by authors who save for a few have been forgotten, and they were meant to be bought at your local drug store, read and thrown away. Each pulp measured a little larger than a digest, sat thicker than a typical magazine, and contained about five short stories and one novella. Today, if you find one of those pulps and it doesn't crumble in your hands or smell vaguely or urine you can post it on eBay and get about $60.00.
So just like your grandma told you, everything repeats itself and the Kindle has brought back a market for stories that are meant to be read quickly, enjoyed and tossed. They compete with a decent television program, and since we've all been reading more words for about 15 years now with the adoption of the internet, just cause it's video doesn't mean it'll win out over words.
Feral is a good example of the new pulps. As nonliterary as TV writers might be, it actually takes talent to take generic sci-fi, fantasy and horror ideas and engage an audience. Harder still in novel form, because it so often comes out like fan fiction. Feral is not that.

    Interesting story that's very different.
    Any additional comments?
I really liked this book and can't wait to get the next one. It was a tad confusing at first, but soon, all made sense. The narrator did a good job and I loved that southern county accent. If you enjoy paranormal/sci-fi, this audiobook is for you. I voluntarily reviewed this audiobook after receiving an advanced copy that I requested.
Loved it and did not want it to end!
Where does Ashlynn's Dreams rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
Kristin Condon is one of the best narrators I have listened to and I typically run through 4-5 audiobooks a week. There wasn't one character where I felt the need to cringe at the narrator's portrayal of them. :-)
What did you like best about this story?
Amazing character development from Julie yet again.
Which character as performed by Kristin Condon was your favorite?
It is very hard for me to choose just one character that I loved. As this is the second of Julie's books I have read/listened to I loved Nadia in the first and Jillian in this one. I started out reading the book and then switched to the audio version as I was leaving the house. I was amazed while reading at Julie's character development and how I could almost see and hear Jillian talking in my head. Quite often the actor chosen to portray a book character disappoints me or the narrators voice portrayal disappoints me, but I was definitely not disappointed here. Jillian came to life through Julie's words and Kristin's voice.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Laughing, crying, anxious, needing to share with everyone I talked to about how much I was enjoying this book. My first LOL, and yes I really did laugh out loud in the middle of the restaurant I was in ( boy do people look at you funny), was when Jillian starts describing Dr. S...she says..."she meets with me every week just to talk for an hour.

    Publisher's Summary:
Rayen's memory is blank. Her future's in question. Her power is dangerous.
I awoke in an unknown desert landscape that I felt I should recognize, yet I have no real memory of this place or...who I am. A strange ghost told me my name and that I'm 17, but he disappeared just as I could have used some help.
I was captured along with others my age who said the land was called Albuquerque, then I was handed over to a private school where, at times, things are as familiar as the nearby mountain range and as alien as seeing a reflection of my face.
Everyone thinks I'm a Native American runaway - whatever that is - but the school has offered me a place to stay until they learn my true identity, or my memory returns.
As if things aren't confusing enough, while stuck with a cocky computer-savvy boy and a gifted, but oddball girl, the three of us discovered a secret that threatens the existence of this world - and the future.
In the middle of all this, I'm drawn to a 17-year-old boy who is as deadly as he is attractive and thinks I'm the enemy.
    Critic Reviews:
"I was totally captivated by every scene in the first book... The imagination of Micah Caida takes the reader on an exhilarating journey... Time Trap is originality at its best." (Amelia Richard, Single Titles)

    Power of Five Oblivion
Amazing! Anthony Horowitz writes beautifully, keeping you on edge and making you care deeply about the characters. Paul Pantings reading is superb, managing to delineate several individual characters with his voice, and adding depth to the words. It works as a stand-alone book, but it really is best if you have heard the previous four.
    A thrilling and unexpected end
I've always loved how varied each book in The Power of Five is, and Oblivion takes that to new heights. It's unlike any of the other entries in the series, and even the story threads within the main plot straddle multiple genres, locations, and themes.
The slow reveal of how the status quo has shifted is gripping. and Oblivion maintains that intrigue throughout as it explore how this shift has affected different parts of the world. Horowitz has essentially stripped down this universe to its core, then built an entirely new one around it. This means that long time readers and newcomers are all introduced at the same pace, creating a self contained story for all, with many extra layers of depth for fans.
Oblivion pulls no punches, no one is safely hidden behind plot armour, making the whole experience enthralling from start to finish.
The narrator does a good job conveying both the subtleties of dialogue and the urgent pace of action. The American accent is really quite wonky but otherwise he does the material justice.
A must listen for fans of the series, and definitely something to consider if you're a newcomer. A true epic.
    Disappointingly finished
Would you try another book written by Anthony Horowitz or narrated by Paul Panting?
Yes, although Paul's American accent is appalling
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
It felt rushed - trying to cram too much into one (albeit very long) book. Almost seemed like the writer was getting bored at the end and wanted to get it done, rather than thinking about how to effectively bring the series to an exciting close.
What aspect of Paul Pantings performance might you have changed?
    Hi false American accent.
Could you see Oblivion being made into a movie or a TV series? Who would the stars be?
Only with a major rewrite of the ending.
Very good but a little confusing at the end
I really liked this book - in fact the whole of the power of five books- however I am some what confused by the ending of this
last book - as I've heard it before- where the ending is totally different- I wonder if anybody has come across this too?
    Obliviously overwrought apocalypse
It can be hard to take such high stakes seriously, but there are some genuinely horrible moments (intentionally so) among the more laughable ones.
The narrator was generally competent but had a distractingly bad American accent.
Overall this is fun YA fare that successfully ties up the loose ends of the series. Go for it for for an introduction to horror and fantasy or if you're a fan of Horowitz.

Until it ended I thought I might die
Best thing about this book is its brevity. But no concise narritive in individual scenes, which drag on forever with sappy drama. Then the big surprise at the end is never explained. Why did he do it?
Reader borders on vocal fry and definitely contributes to the sappy spoken and thought text with her cutsie voice. I see Amber Patrick specializes in books where that voicing would be a better fit. Not for what was intended to be a serious novel like this.
I would not even recommend this as a YA novel.
    Good story. Great Narration!!
The story was interesting, although somewhat predictable; however, the narration was spot on! The emotional range of the narrator drew me completely in.

    Publisher's Summary:
In 1903, five truly brilliant young inventors, the children of the world's most important scientists, went about their lives and their work as they always had.
But all that changed the day the men in black arrived.
They arrived to take twelve-year-old Jasper Modest and his six-year-old sister, Lucy he with his remarkable creations and she with her perfect memory from their London, England home to a place across the ocean they'd never seen before.
They arrived to take nine-year-old Wallace Banneker, last in a long line of Africa-descended scientists, from his chemistry, his father, and his New York home to a life he d never imagined.
Twelve-year-old Noah Canto-Sagas, already missing his world-famous and beloved mother, was taken from Toronto, Canada, carrying only his clothes, his violin, and his remarkable mind.
And thirteen-year-old Faye Vigyanveta, the genius daughter of India's wealthiest and most accomplished scientists, was removed by force from her life of luxury.
From all across the world, they've been taken to mysterious Sole Manner Farm, and a beautiful but isolated schoolhouse in Dayton, Ohio, without a word from their parents as to why. Not even the wonderful schoolteacher they find there, Miss Brett, can explain it. She can give them love and care, but she can t give them answers.
Things only get stranger from there. What is the book with no pages Jasper and Lucy find in their mother's underwear drawer, and why do the men in black want it so badly?
How is it all the children have been taught the same bizarre poem and yet no other rhymes or stories their entire lives?
And why haven't their parents tried to contact them?
Whatever the reasons, to brash, impetuous Faye, the situation is clear: They and their parents have been kidnapped by these terrible men in black, and the only way they're going to escape and rescue their parents is by completing the invention they didn't even know they were all working on an invention that will change the world forever.
But what if the men in black aren't trying to harm the children? What if they're trying to protect them?
And if they're trying to protect them, from what?
An amazing story about the wonders of science and the still greater wonders of friendship, The Atomic Weight of Secrets or The Mysterious Men in Black , the first book of the Young Inventors Guild trilogy, is a truly original novel. Young readers will forever treasure Eden Unger Bowditch's funny, inventive, poignant, and wonderfully fun fiction debut.

    The Characters Have True Heart
Quite a lot to take in, but well worth it! Eden Unger Bowditch's first young adult novel does not disappoint! The story definitely provides a maze of possibilities that can lead to dead ends or the ultimate truth. The Atomic Weight of Secrets or The Arrival of the Mysterious Men in Black is a very enjoyable novel and a fun one to read. I suggest this book for kids and teens alike.
I was constantly led on a trail of false leads and accusations that kept me on my toes. I never knew what to expect from Lucy, Jasper, Faye, Noah, Wallace, or the men in the black. I love how I was constantly entertained by what might lay ahead and the endless directions in which the story could go.

Her ability to be strong and find love leaves you with hope for the future
A dystopian adventure exploring the human drive for survival in many forms. Each of us react differently.
Although written in third person omniscient, Esther is the thread tying the story together. Her ability to be strong and find love leaves you with hope for the future.
Wanderers explores the effects of different types of leadership under adverse circumstances and the value various personalities and skills bring to a group. When the teens finally arrive, the big city gives them more than they imagined, but nothing comes without a price.
A virus mutant infected Earthâs water supply and killed most humans. A few children remain scattered across the land. When scavenging at stores dries up a group of teens leaves their hometown in search of Mundreel, a city where life is thought to be better.
Adventures on the journey test each teenâs resolve. Alliances are created, love won and lost, mistakes made and atrocities played out. Both the innocent and those who act brashly take the consequences.
I enjoyed Kim and Kalavanâs exploration of human reactions to extreme adversity.
Fast paced account of the group of Prin citizens looking for a better life.
I wanted to read the Wanderers because I enjoyed the first book and wanted to see what became of the village and especially of Ester and Caleb. I didn't remember a whole lot about it but the beginning does a good job of a short summary without feeling the info dump weight. We quickly got a handle on the characters again and their relation and thoughts about one another.
One thing that still bugs me but I got used to was the weird perspective, I guess shifting third person but it seems to focus in a lot and then all of the sudden jump to another person with little to no warning or transition.
I liked Caleb in this one, he is the strong type who leads and really thinks about other people and the well being but especially his relationship with Ester. Their little family including the baby from his deceased first wife (they don't live past teen years from something in the water or atmosphere, so family life happens early in this world set-up).
Some of the same characters--Joseph and Sakar are in this one as well and we get more of a sense of their character, history and their attachment to our strong, compassionate Ester. She went through so many changes, losses and horrors but she still thinks of others and people look up to her.
