    Publisher's Summary:
The thrilling fantastical mystery series, Arkwell Academy, from YA author Mindee Arnett continues in The Nightmare Dilemma.
Dusty Everhart might be able to predict the future through the dreams of her crush Eli Booker, but that doesn't make her life even remotely easy. When one of her mermaid friends is viciously assaulted and left for dead, and the school's jokester Lance Rathbone is accused of the crime, Dusty's as shocked as everybody else. Lance needs Dusty to prove his innocence by finding the real attacker, but that's easier asked than done. Eli's dreams are no help, more nightmares than prophecies.
To make matters worse, Dusty's ex-boyfriend has just been acquitted of conspiracy and is now back at school, reminding Dusty of why she fell for him in the first place. The Magi Senate needs Dusty to get close to him, to discover his real motives. But this order infuriates Eli, who has started his own campaign for Dusty's heart.
As Dusty takes on both cases, she begins to suspect they're connected to something bigger. And there's something very wrong with Eli's dreams, signs that point to a darker plot than they could have ever imagined.

nice continuation of the story...can't wait for next book!
i feel like maybe 5 stars is a little overrated...but amazon says that's "i love it" and i really did love it. the heroine can get on my nerves a bit but i think she's gaining some maturity as she goes through the story which is good character development and also helps me to like her more. there's an interesting twist with the two main characters which makes me excited for the next book. as with the first, i thought the background/world building was very clever. fun read and much recommended.
    Fun, quick, read. Enjoy.
It was entertaining. Not as enthrall in gas the first book, but i still read it in one night. I'm drawn more to the characters than to the world Miss. Arnett has created. If she could expand on the world a little bit more in the next book while still maintaining her characters, she'll knock it out of the park.
    Love this series
Again I'm really not sure why I didn't add a date when I read this the first time. Arnett does not disappoint with this thrilling return to Arkwell Academy.
With the Will gone so much has changed for Dusty and Eli, but at the same time nothing has changed at all. Dusty's momentary acceptance and accolades over the events of previous book has disappeared in the wake of the return of so much bigotry between the kinds who are now able to perform magic. Trust has all but disappeared between students of different races and secret radical sects have been formed on campus much to the delight of Merlin's former followers who are doing their best to incite war between the species from behind the scenes. Lance ends up with a curse meant for Ely, Brittany is attacked and Eli discovers he too has magic. And just like before Dusty finds herself at the center of all the drama.
I absolutely adored the way Arnett continues to weave Arthurian Myth and Legend into the lives of these Magical boarding school teens. The action is intense the love story even more so and this book can't be described as anything less than a page turner from beginning to end. Highly recommended.
    Good second book
I loved the first book, and I'll read both again before the third comes out.

  • The Deep Audiobook by Jen Minkman

    Title: The Deep
Subtitle: The Island Series, Book 3
    Author: Jen Minkman
    Narrator: Brenna Frederick, Dawn Huestis
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 7 hrs and 24 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 11-21-14
    Publisher: Jen Minkman
Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 5 votes
    Genres: Teens, Sci-Fi & Fantasy
    Publisher's Summary:
    'The world is never-ending.
I never realized just how much space there is - how far and wide the water around our island stretches out. Somewhere in the back of my mind, I may have believed that a second Wall ran around Tresco, containing the infinite waters so we wouldn't all wash over the edge and plummet down into the depths.'
Leia and Walt are on their way to the Other Side, where the legendary land of Cornwall awaits them. Tony, their new friend, has told them that all wars of the past have been forgotten and the citizens of Bodmin and Dartmoor live in peace. People adhere to the tenets of an old religion that preaches forgiveness and non-violence.
However, Walt and Leia soon discover that even a peace-loving, ideal society like this one may have its flaws. While on a forbidden trip to Exeter, the old city of their ancestors, the two Islanders discover more about the new world than they ever bargained for.
Secrets run dark and passions run deep in this thrilling conclusion to the Island novella series.

    Fantastic Conclusion to Post-Apocalypse Trilogy!
    Any additional comments?
The Deep: The Island Series, Book 3 is another excellent story by Jen Minkman. The Deep begins where The Waves left off, with Leia and Walt sailing across the bay to the new world with about 20 other islanders. Keep in mind that we are 150 years after the Apocalypse where most of the known world died from biological warfare. When they first arrive in the brave new world, the citizens appear nice and welcoming. But soon Walt and Leia realize how drastically different the society is by observing one citizen put to death by lethal injection for a minor infraction without the benefit of a trial, or even the opportunity for explanation. When Walt and Leia soon decide to return home, they are prohibited from leaving and instead are subjected to terrible experiments.
While Leia is exploring the new world, Alyssa is helping the citizens of Hope Harbour deal with the reunification of the Island. There is a group of religious fanatics wrecking havoc on the island and destroying all attempts to bring the islanders together. Alyssa does a great job facilitating and bringing the two sides of the together. She befriends Ben and finds him a job and home, and then meets his brother Saul (the former leader of the manor) and quickly brings him back into society after his self imposed isolation.
I feel this trilogy went full circle, leaving no loose ends. The Deep is filled with several sympathetic and believable characters and it packs an emotional punch. It has joy, excitement, attraction, apprehension, fear, affection, betrayal, love, sacrifice, sadness and grief. What more could a reader ask for in an audio book?
    Secrets!
This is the third and the last book in The Island series by Jen Minkman. I enjoyed this story but I thought the first two books were more engrossing. All three books are written extremely well, almost whimsical and intriguing as well. Each story contains mystery, secrets, adventures, and even some murder throughout the story. A fantastic series!
Brenda Fredrick and Dawn Huestis did a good job but I must be honest and tell the author she wasted money with getting two narrators. I think that's why I didn't enjoy it as I did the others. A great narrator can do each characters accents and voices. I think they hurt the story more than helped.

    Sadie, the Crusader
What did you love best about Sadie Sapiens?
Helping kids of ALL ages - from 10 to 92... to understand dog behaviors & thinking processes, but this dog's observations of their human counterpart's behaviors, both in amusing and serious instances. Sadie sheds light on so many important aspects on human and canine relationships thru a unique storyline that will capture your heart, mind and spirit. This story addresses important moments of death (both of pets and humans), animal cruelty, humane treatment of pets and the not-so humane, animal shelters & foster caregivers... just to name a few.
What other book might you compare Sadie Sapiens to and why?
I don't know. It is like no other that "I" have read. Others I have read (i.e. Marley & Me and viewed a few dog related movies), but this is not a true or embellished true story nor a doggy-buddy story. It's one of a kind. Very unique.
Have you listened to any of Paula Slades other performances before? How does this one compare?
Yes, I have listened to Paula Slade's other performances. All are excellent for each style of book. This book had an immense cast of similar & radically different roles. There were a few voices in each age, sex, human/not human & / or character types, which Paula presented confidently and was consistent on each... moving flawlessly between the dialogue and narrator voices with seamless ease.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Frankly, this story was so packed with emotional highs and even scary scenarios, that I had to take a break (just one). After that.... when I sensed the book was ending -- I remember saying out loud... "No, don't end."
    Any additional comments?
I feel that this book is more appropriate for 13 to Adult. I think a 10 year-old is not ready for some of the drama, but, it should be up to each parent to decide.I also have to say, that I feel that Paula Slade is an awesome storyteller. Between the story and her performance, I sense we haven't heard the last of either. Also, I really zeroed in on the reality of having a dog (or cat, for that matter)...

    Good
Good but definitely a 'young adult' style of story & lacking in sophistication one would expect as an adult but I enjoyed it non the less
    awesome
the book was perfect , it was always exciting ,something always happening , never made me bored at any moment !!!!
Kind of a rip off but still not to bad
The story is very similar to Harry Potter but I still enjoyed it none the less. Ms Clare and Ms Black do not reach the heights of Ms Rowling but I doubt that no many writers could. I hope the antagonist become a little more fleshed out and fearsome in the coming books because at the moment I do not have any fear of The Enemy of Death the way it was with He Who Must Not Be Named.

    Cool Fairytale!
The Poppet and the Lune is a delightful modern fairytale that i think will appeal to children and adults alike. Madeline Claire Franklin is a fantastic fairytale maker, and i think we will hear a lot from her in the future! I cant praise this book high enough! It is just that cool. I would recommend the story of The Poppet and the Lune to anyone that want to read a fairytale, and this is a book i will hear again, and again! The Poppet and the Lune is going to be one of the novels i will set time aside for every year to "re-listen"! That is a high praise from a "Book nerd" like me!
Elizabeth Basalto did a wonderful job of bringing the story of The Poppet and the Lune to life. I thought her voice fit the fairytale very well. She was good at doing different voices, and that is needed in a fairytale. She makes this fantastic book even more alive! Elizabeth Basalto is just very talented, and i cant say something negative about her reading!
I was provided this audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator in exchange for an unbiased review via AudiobookBlast dot com
    A delightful modern fairytale
What did you love best about The Poppet and the Lune?
That even though it was a fairytale, it did not shy away from the darker sides to life.
Have you listened to any of Elizabeth Basaltos other performances before? How does this one compare?
This is the first performance I have listened to and I am really impressed. Elizabeth is very talented and did a wonderful job in bringing the story to life.
    Any additional comments?

The Poppet and the Lune tells the story of Elizabeth, the patchwork girl who wishes to find her own place in the world.

Interesting characters, and interesting story line, - BUT she dwells too much on repeating how the girl is so taken by the boy and how much he is so perfect, and does not even complete one story in a book. I started it in the 1sr installment of what was supposed to be a series. It barely scratched the surface, and was really only a chapter. It figured it was a teaser and designed to lead into the story. The 2nd (?) installment?? - which I thought was supposed to be a whole story - was not. I would like to know what happens to the characters, but am not willing to pay double for one complete story, especially when so much wordage was wasted on describing the teen angst and emotions, when it was certainly established in much less time.
I think Ms Peebles has potential that could be developed and honed into some really good storytelling.
    Must read!!!
Love it. This is a great series i can't wait to find out what happens next I hope our young lovers accomplish their goals I don't want to give anything away but if you like love stories or a good mystery this is the series for you a real page turner
    Great Series
Just a few books in this series. I think 3 since I read them awhile ago. I like everything I have read from Chrissy Peebles so far and this was definitely one of them.
Enchanting YA Gothic Romance set in a Castle in Scotland!
I am far from being a 'young adult' (middle-aged adult gothic novel-addict, in my case). But I LOVED the mysterious story line and especially the romantic setting! (Scotland is a Dream Destination of mine). I breezed through the first book to this series in a couple hours, it was THAT good! (the first book is called Enchanted Castle and is FREE right now on Kindle). This second book was equally engaging and can't wait for the 3rd and final book to be released!
    Haunted fairytale for all
I did book 1 and 2 for my weekend and loved them I can't wait to have book 3 ......these books had me in them from the start and I couldn't stop for long I had to know what was going on, its like the book takes you in there with them. My son is 10 and he got in to them so this was a cool weekend thanks keep them coming

Choosing is a bad idea, because Desi always makes the wrong choice, and sometimes there are no do-overs. Certainly not this time, when all has been lost and Desi can't even save herself, let alone her friends. For Desi, the hardest thing is letting someone help her, to accept their sacrifice on her behalf. But that's exactly what she'll have to do in order to save the worlds from Helena's destruction.
The goddess of Helheimer, long imprisoned by Desi's father Loki, is free at last, and she's bent on reclaiming what once was hers. The nine worlds will be drawn into war, over Hell, over Earth, with innocent humans as meaningless collateral. While Michael and the Gardians of Asgard, along with the golden-armored Valkyrie, lead the battle for freedom, it's Desi who holds the destiny of all the worlds in her hands. Can she set aside her doubts, once and for all, and claim the gifts that are hers to bear? Can she accept the sacrifice that is made for her and become all that she was created to be? Her final choice will define not only her future, but the fate of humankind, forever more.

    Great ending
Really enjoyed this series, it was refreshing to read a book about teens who are choosing to stay pure for marriage. That really stood out and was a nice surprise. Great ending, but wish there were more books about Desi and Michael in the future.
    great series...
Loved the series but this was my least favorite of the three. As a whole I would give the series a higher mark, but in this last book it seemed the Desi was pull away from the action to much for my liking in stead of being in the middle of things. Still in all it was a great series and I would recommend.
    Wonderful culmination of the trilogy
The growth, depth, and vision of author and characters throughout the 3 books has been incredible. Gotta say my heart sang at the ending and gives hope to Midgarrd and all 9 world's. So glad I took a chance on the first book. Looking forward to The Diaries. Thanks for an enthralling read!
    Great end!
This was a very action packed book. I can imagine the seemingly endless battle scene full of death, blood, and tired heros. Even with the battle taking a good portion of the book, I still saw the development of the characters. The ending was no surprise but it was a good ending.
Looking forward to reading more books by Ali Cross.
    Great trilogy
Very engaging trilogy, and great ending to a good v. evil story.
