The Moving Story of a Man Who Touched Our Lives

James Gandolfini, gave a soul to suburban New Jersey dad and mob killer, Tony Soprano. When he died suddenly of a heart attack last year, it felt like a family member had died. But Gandolfini was not Tony Soprano, he was so much deeper, kinder and more complex.

Dan Bischoffs biography maps out the life of a man that touched all our lives. From his Italian American background, growing up in New Jersey, experiences as a working man, to becoming an actor and philanthropist.

This book gave me insight into the blossoming of an artist, and of a man ready to give back through his work and films for the charity Wounded Warrior Project (never touted in any publicity for self celebration).

John Ventimiglia, who played Artie Bucco on The Sopranos really put his heart into narrating this. His performance is that of an insider, fluid and heartfelt.

Written at a tight journalistic clip, this is a great listen.

Even more reasons why he will be missed

Lots of background biographical information. A real guy who didn't have to be. Sad his light is no more. Well written & voiced - like a friend telling the story.

Disappointing

I'm late to the party when it comes to the Sopranos. I remember when it came out, but I had no interest in it because from the outside all I saw was the harsh side. Twenty years later, here I am binge watching all six seasons and becoming obsessed with the show, albeit because of the character of Tony.

I Dont Know What You Know Me From: Confessions of a Co-Star because I happen to love the eclectic mix of television shows and movies in which shes been. Her book is funny, interesting, and honest. She speaks of her childhood in Michigan, her college years in Chicago, and her time in L.A. The best part? Its like listening to your best friend talk about her day.

This book was on par with my absolute, hands down favorite "BossyPants". Judy Greer's stories are touching, funny, interesting and well narrated. As another small town Michigan girl, her early essays on growing up outside Detroit during the "John Hughes" era made me feel like we were besties exchanging memories. Love this book!!!

There is something endearing about Judy Greer that makes her almost instantly likable. There is nothing mind blowing about the book as far as content, except to say that it made me like her more. Listening to this book is like making a new friend: you get to hear all the past stories, thoughts, ideas, dreams, hopes, and gaffes. it's a one sided relationship at this point, but you know, she IS an actress (hee, hee).

Meh to the 2nd Power

Darn, someone beat me to the title to my review.

Bob does a swell job narrating, which receives the most praise in my review. I should mention, I know the Bob Saget of Comedy Central Roasts, stand-up and Howard Stern appearances. I know he was on Full House and AFV, but only by accidentally glancing across the shows during channel surfing. I went into this book, based on the title, looking for something tell-all-ish, something gutsy, maybe even a little wild, my hopes were dashed. It just isn't in here.

Bob and his family knows tragedy, no doubt. He loves his family and that is nice. He is a good father. Kudos. But, other than that, this book has little substance. He builds up these wild stories, on and on, creating the fantasy of a huge payoff and each time the story goes limp (nod to Bob and his love of male anatomy and flatulence jokes). Who else tells a story about going to pick up Rodney Dangerfield for a steak dinner only to learn he's been stood up in favor of Ron Jeremy and some hookers... and he leaves. What's the point of the story?! It all felt like a tease.

Oh, Bob, this book should have been titled much differently. Pffft.

Everything I thought it was going to be

I always have been a big fan of Bob Saget. I heard them on a podcast with Chris Hardwick and ever since then I feel like I can really relate to him more. This book is a great look into his mind. He was funny, caring, and then filthy to cover up his caring. I laughed out loud a few times listening to this. I just wish it was longer.

My Dirty Daddy.

I write this review as a bias reader. Like many, I first knew Saget as my sitcom father on Full House. I found out much later that the comedian was not what he portrayed on his show. Saget is raunchy, dispicable, and the loveliest thing I've come to be a fan of. In this audiobook, you listen as Saget explains how he has become the comedian, actor, father, and director he has become.

What made the experience of listening to Whinchat the most enjoyable?

It was just like the author was sitting beside me, and I thoroughly enjoyed his wonderful reminiscing's of summer holidays when he was a boy.

What did you like best about this story?

I loved the way that when listening to the story is catapulted me back in time to my childhood holidays in England, and especially the way that life was so much simpler, and better (in my opinion) than it is today. No iPods and tablets for the children, back then, just beaches, dogs and the freedom to use your imagination to explore!

Which character as performed by Phillip J. Mather was your favorite?

Simply himself, it was a joy to listen to.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I couldn't really pinpoint one, I just loved listening to the whole story.

Better accuracy....fans of her show 90210 will immediately recognize that she's either lying or moron because she doesn't have her facts straight....shouldnt an editor have notices all the mistakes she made about the show's timeline and her character??

Would you try another book from Jennie Garth and Emily Heckman and/or Jennie Garth?

No, I would not...the simple fact is that there is nothing interesting here. It could have been about my neighbor down the street, or the guy who runs the hardware store. "I went to school, got a job, had some drama, and everybody ends up to be my lifelong friend". I love auto biography's and have listed to or read many. What makes them interesting is the unusual and fascinating lives some people live. Unfortunately, Jenny's book is a swing and a miss. I'm about halfway through the book and haven't gotten to her divorces yet, but I'm sure it'll be no different than the 50 people I know who got divorce...no more drama than anyone else. I'll finish the book, if I can get through it, and update my comments if needed.
