Age is just a number and not a state of mind!
Tina Sloan played the wonderful, moral nurse, Lillian Raines Cooper on Guiding Light for 26 years until it's cancelation last year. Tina has always looked this great even when I first started watching Guiding Light on religious basis since July 1991. In fact, Tina is a beautiful person inside and out.
I was shocked that she was overlooked in the coffee shop by the actress, Beth Chamberlin, who played for her daughter, Beth, for many years on the show. It was a stunning revelation or the fact that she has never had plastic surgery nor did she ever need too.
Tina's decision to become an actress before becoming a wife and mother and went toe to toe with her own parents before winning and becoming a successful actress in her own right. I loved the moment where she is asked about plastic surgery while filming a movie with Jodie Foster. In Tina's age today, she looks better than ever.
I loved the stories about Guiding Light and about Beverlee McKinsey. This book is a keeper about a loving woman who never let her age get her down. Maybe that's what keeps veterans like Betty White, Cloris Leachman, Frances Bay, Angela Lansbury, and other actresses to keep working.
I hope that Tina gets the opportunities to act on Broadway or any stage because as a fan of Guiding Light, I do miss her and the cast and crew of that show.
A fantastic book by a fantastic lady
Have you ever thought... "I wish I knew then what I know now"? NOW IS YOUR CHANCE.
Tina Sloan not only reveals riveting "inside" stories of her days as a soap opera actress and movie star, but also her real-life advice!
I had the pleasure of spending time with Tina when she was in Austin for SXSW, and I was giving her rides around town. From my experience, she could be a life coach. Tina KNOWS. And she TELLS IT. What a delight!
To get a taste of what I experienced when Tina was here, BUY and READ Changing Shoes: Getting Older--Not Old--with Style, Humor, and Grace.
ENJOY your "time" with Tina!!!
Pleasant Surprise
What a pleasant surprise this turned out to be! I only learned who Tina Sloan is when I was introduced to Guiding Light in its final year (it never aired in my country) and I loved the character Lillian. When I later learned Tina was writing a book I wanted to have it.
I pretty much went in thinking it would be an entertaining book but not much more than that. I had no idea it would leave such a mark on me.
In Changing Shoes Tina pretty much takes us all by the hand and leads us through life while pointing out the exciting, beautiful, disturbing and disappointing sights. Along the way she shares with us what she has learned and how she dealt with it all.
